Add or remove features from your Hulu account or cancel it completely. Here’s how.
You’ve been a loyal Hulu subscriber with the basic plan but now’s the time to make some changes. Maybe you want to add features to your subscription, such as going for the commercial-free option or including Showtime on your account. Or perhaps you’re not watching Hulu much anymore and want to cancel or just put a hold on it.
You can do all this via your Hulu account page. Let’s take a look.
1. Log In
4. Upgrade Your Account
The first option spares you from having to sit through all those commercials when you watch your favorite TV shows or movies on Hulu. Yes, for $4 extra per month, you can put the kibosh on repetitive advertisements. Just turn on the button for “No commercials.” If you already have no commercials activated, you’ll see an option to downgrade to “Limited Commercials.”
Here, you can also sign up for Hulu with Live TV, a $40-per-month service that, as its name suggests, lets you tap into live TV from 50+ channels. For $44 per month, you can ditch commercials on Hulu with Live TV, too. For $15 more, upgrade from 50 to 200 hours of cloud DVR storage. Another $15 lets you watch on an unlimited number of screens, up from two.
For any of these options, toggle the “switch to this plan” slider.
5. HBO, Showtime, or Cinemax
The next option adds streaming services from HBO, Showtime, or Cinemax to your Hulu subscription. For an additional $8.99 per month, you can watch various Showtime series, such as Homeland, Ray Donovan, and Billions, as well as movies available through the cable network. Separately, Showtime’s streaming service costs $11 per month, so as a Hulu subscriber you can save $2 a month by bundling it into your subscription. You also get the first month free.
HBO is $14.99 per month via Hulu, while Cinemax is $9.99 per month. Neither is a discount, but it does consolidate billing.
To select any one of these services, click “Add This” on the right side.
6. Confirm Changes
7. Time to Move On
Okay, let’s say that you want to cancel your Hulu subscription. Maybe you just don’t watch it anymore or perhaps you already have subscriptions to Netflix or Amazon Video and no longer need Hulu at this point. You have two options. You can put a temporary hold on your subscription to see how you fare without it, or you can cancel it outright.
Scroll down to the bottom of your Account page until you see the two options in the right column to “Hold Your Subscription” and “Cancel Your Subscription.”

The streaming wars are well underway, and if you are thinking of axing some of your subscriptions, you are not alone — many users are jumping from one service to another, following their favorite shows.
If you are thinking of pulling the plug on Hulu, one of the more popular subscription-based streaming services for TV shows and movies, here’s how to do it.
How to cancel your Hulu subscription
1. Launch your preferred browser on a computer or mobile device.
3. In the upper right-hand corner, select your name.
4. On the drop-down menu, scroll and then select “Account” under “Manage Profiles.”
5. Under the “Your Subscription” section, select “Cancel Your Subscription.”
7. If you are set on cancelling Hulu permanently, select “Continue to Cancel.”
8. Another window will load and ask you to select a reason for your cancellation. Select one of the bubbles, and then click “Continue to Cancel.”
9. At this point you may receive a final prompt offering you a two-week, paid subscription or a page that says Hulu is adding shows all the time. Select “Continue to Cancellation” once again or “Cancel Subscription.”
10. Once you’ve cancelled your subscription, you should receive a confirmation email. Your Hulu account will be active until the end of your payment period, which can be found on the Account page.
Hulu is great if you enjoy the shows it has available. However, at some point, you might want to cancel your subscription, whether it’s due to cost or just because you no longer enjoy the content. We’ll walk you through how to do this.
If you’re not ready to fully cancel Hulu, you can also pause your subscription for up to 12 weeks.
To go cancel the service completely, just sign in on Hulu’s website, and then click the icon next to your name in the top-right corner.
In the drop-down menu, select “Manage Profiles.”
You’ll be prompted to re-type your password; do so, and then click “Log In.”
At the bottom of the page on the left, click “Cancel” next to the “Cancel Your Subscription” option, and then go through the prompts.
A message appears asking if you would rather pause your service for up to 12 weeks. You can change the number of weeks in the drop-down menu, and then click “Pause Subscription” if you want to do that.
If you still want to cancel, click “Continue to Cancel” to move forward and completely cancel the service.
A questionnaire appears asking you where the company went wrong. Select the answer that best describes the reason you’re leaving, and then click “Continue to Cancel” again.
As a last-ditch effort to keep you as a subscriber, Hulu will offer you a free month of service. You won’t be charged again until that free month is over.
If you want to continue with the cancellation, click “Cancel Subscription.”
Now that you’ve canceled your subscription, you’re redirected to the home screen.
You’ve now officially ended your subscription to Hulu and will no longer be charged for the service. Your account will be deactivated, but you can always sign up again if the need arises.
Hulu is an awesome streaming service, but it’s not for everyone. We know that despite Hulu’s wide variety of shows and movies, and relatively low price, some of you will want to part ways with the streaming service. And that’s why we’re here to help!
This is our step-by-step guide to canceling your paid Hulu subscription. We’ll walk you through the process so that you can walk away from that monthly bill.
Step 1: Log In
You won’t be able to cancel without logging in first! Don’t be fooled by Hulu’s free offerings – if you don’t see your name in the upper-right corner, then you’re not logged in yet. Click on “LOG IN” and fill out your information. If you’ve forgotten your password, you’ll be able to recover it through email.
Step 2: Click on “Account”
Now that you’re logged in, your name should replace “LOG IN” in the upper right-hand corner. Hover over your name to reveal a drop-down menu, and click on “Account.”
Step 3: Click on “Cancel Subscription”
Your account page should look like the screenshot above. The top white box on the right side of the screen is the one we want – the one with your basic account information. At the bottom of that box are links labeled “Put Subscription on Hold” and “Cancel Subscription.” Putting your account on hold will suspend it temporarily, so that’s a good option if you’re leaving the country or going on a temporary budget. But this guide is for canceling your subscription, so go ahead and click on “Cancel Subscription.”
Step 4: Here We Go Again
Of course, clicking “cancel” once is never enough. You’ll be sent to a new page and will be greeted with an amusing video from Hulu begging you to stay. Hulu will give lay out some other options (customer service, putting your account on hold), but don’t let them drag things out.
Click the box next to “I understand the terms of cancellation and want to cancel my account” to check it. That will make the button below (“Yes, cancel my subscription”) clickable. Click that button, and you’re all set! You should receive a confirmation email from Hulu.
One final note: if you cancel a free trial (like we did), your account will be cancelled immediately. If you cancel a paid membership, you’ll be allowed to keep using the service until the end of your billing cycle (that is, until you would have paid the next month’s fee).

I have tried multiple times to access Hulu so I could cancel the account without success. Even their web page won’t load. Any suggestions?
I am having the same problem and I never subscribed to the 30 day fee trial. Please help me get out of this. Cancel anything that has to do with Hulu including the Apple TV app. Otherwise I will contact the Better Business Bureau.

Hi Gladys, thanks for reading. You’ll have to reach out to Hulu about this, as we’re not affiliated with Hulu.
Please help me cancel Hulu tv. I signed up yesterday and this service is not for me. I cannot find a way to cancel my account. I did not sign up for a free trial.
Call customer service. It’s the only thing that worked for me. A human will help.
you make cancelling hulu impossible, so now is the time to go to social media and tell people this program is a scam.
Hi James, we’re not affiliated with Hulu.
I just cancelled my credit card that was being used and am waiting on a new one so they cannot take payments anymore.

It seems almost impossible to cancel a Hulu subscription. They somehow suck you in and then refuse to let you leave. Next, another letter to my credit card company and the Better Business Bureau.
Same thing here. The site will do everything BUT cancel the subscription. Seems like it’s being done on purpose. Eventually I called the old fashioned way and had to talk to a human about it. When I explained what happened, they didn’t seem surprised so that’s must say something…
esto es una verdadera estafa, porque no puedo cancelar mi suscripcion de prueba.

Do not have ROKU I just want to get rid of subscription
I have had Hulu a few months. I was offered a year’s subscription at a good rate and took it. No videos ever play now. I have to go through the blurry I am not a robot pages to even sign on. I tried to cancel yesterday and was informed I would lose all my money that was paid Nov 26. I paid for services I am not receiving. I would never have changed from monthly plan if I had known I would be completely ripped off and ignored. This is Day 6 of no videos.
Commitment can be scary stuff. And when there’s money involved, well, commitment is all the worse.
Fortunately, with Hulu you can enjoy a commitment-free seven-day trial that you can cancel at any time.
A Hulu free trial lets you try out the service’s massive content library, which is available for on-demand viewing. You can also unlock the Hulu + Live TV service for a free, one-week trial, which, in addition, lets you watch live programming from dozens of channels.
If you are in the midst of a Hulu free trial and have decided the platform isn’t worth your commitment, however, you can cancel it any time before the seven days have elapsed and avoid a charge.
Here’s how to end your free Hulu trial.
Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Hulu is a popular and affordable streaming service with a gigantic inventory of shows, movies, and more (and they’ve recently added live streaming of certain content including sports events). You can read our Hulu review for a full breakdown of the service. With millions of subscribers, Hulu is a loved option, but having said that, there comes a time when you need to cancel even things you love.
Here’s a guide for how to cancel Hulu. This is a guide to cancel your Hulu Plus account: you’ll still have a free account you can use to bookmark favorites etc.
How to Cancel Hulu: Step by Step Guide
Fortunately, Hulu isn’t contract based, so you’re not locked in, and it takes about five minutes both to cancel and re-start your subscription. This is one of the advantages of streaming services over traditional cable. To get rid of Hulu, follow these instructions:
1. Sign into your Hulu account on a computer or mobile web browser
You can cancel Hulu on your computer, phone, or tablet. To manage your subscription and stop Hulu, you’ll need to access your account settings. Go to www.hulu.com/account and login.
2. Scroll to Your Subscription Options
Scroll down to the bottom right. You’ll see two options: to put your subscription on hold, or to cancel it. Note that if you’re not certain you want to get rid of Hulu forever, you can select “Hold Subscription”, which allows you to suspend your account, and payments, for up to 12 weeks. (This option is not available if you get Hulu through Amazon or iTunes).
3. Click “Cancel Your Subscription”
You may have to re-enter your password at this point. This will take you a new page.
4. Select Your Reason for Leaving
A pop-up will appear asking you to select your reason for cancellation before leaving. Once you’ve selected your reason, hit “Continue to cancel.”
5. Reject Offer
Hulu will then give you another popup offering two weeks free if you are willing to stick around. If you still want to cancel, select “No, cancel subscription.” If you’re not 100% sure that you want to get rid of Hulu, this is a good opportunity to extend your membership for free while you decide.
You will then be taken to a confirmation page, and will receive an email confirmation of your decision. On the same page, a survey will be offered for why you left: it’s up to you whether or not to take this, your account is already canceled.
And that’s how you stop Hulu! You’ll still have access to your free Hulu account which offers limited access to media, and does have ads. If you ever want to renew, all you have to do is go to your account page, and click “Renew My Subscription.”
What if I cancel Hulu in the middle of my billing period?
Hulu is a month-to-month subscription. Each billing cycle ends a month after the previous. By canceling Hulu, you’ll continue to have full access to the Hulu Plus service until the end of your billing cycle, but will not be charged at the start of your next billing cycle.

Hulu is one of the largest media streaming platforms out there but it isn’t for everyone. If it just isn’t hitting the spot or you just wanted to see what all the fuss is about, you might want to cancel your subscription. While no business wanted you to leave them, it is quite straightforward to cancel your Hulu Plus subscription. Here’s how.
Hulu Plus is the premium side of the platform. Once your free subscription runs out and you begin paying for content, your account is then a Hulu Plus account. You can move from a paid account back to a free one or cancel altogether, it is entirely up to you.
Cancel your Hulu Plus subscription
Canceling your Hulu Plus subscription takes less than a minute.
- Navigate to your Hulu account page and log in.
- Scroll to Your Subscription and look for Hold or Cancel Subscription.
- Click Cancel Subscription. You will be taken to another page.
- Confirm your choice by clicking Yes, cancel my subscription.
You will receive an email confirmation of your decision and you will no longer be billed. You will still have access to the free Hulu account which offers limited access to media with advertising though. If you want to delete your Hulu account completely, read on.
Delete your Hulu account
If you have decided that you no longer want to use Hulu, you can delete your account permanently if you wish.
- Go to the Hulu website and log in.
- Select Update Personal Info.
- Click Delete my free Hulu account.
- Enter your password.
- Click Yes, delete my account. Your account will then be deleted.
If you are planning to cut ties with Hulu it’s important that you cancel your subscription first and then delete your account. Deleting a Hulu account does not stop the subscription for some reason. According to Hulu ‘Deleting a free Hulu.com account is not intended to cancel a Hulu subscription, as these are separate accounts.’
If you cancel your Hulu Plus subscription, you will still be entitled to view media until your billing period ends. If you delete your account right away, you cannot view media until that period ends. I would suggest watching what you paid for first and only delete your account once your billing period is over otherwise you’re just wasting money.
If you’re just bored of Hulu but think you might return at a later date, you may be better off putting your account on hold instead of deleting it.
Put your Hulu Plus account on hold
You can suspend your account for up to 12 weeks which will stop any subscription payments for that period. This is ideal of you’re going on a long vacation.
- Log into your Hulu account.
- Scroll to Your Subscription and look for Hold or Cancel Subscription.
- Select Hold Subscription and set the duration.
- Click Submit.
If you’re staying away for a while, you can place your account on hold up to three times within a 12 week period. Once the duration you set has passed, your account will automatically reactivate. If you receive Hulu through Amazon or iTunes, you cannot put a hold on your account.
Hulu is a diverse streaming platform offering a wide variety of add-ons that essentially make it possible to build your own streaming skinny TV bundle. Hulu add-ons include Cinemax, Starz, HBO and Showtime. If you give any of the add-ons a try and reach the conclusion they just don’t fit your budget or that you don’t like the content, cancelling your Hulu add-ons is a relatively simple process. However, it should be noted that you can only cancel add-ons on the Hulu website.
Open a web browser and go to Hulu.com. Log into your Hulu account if prompted. You’ll land on your Hulu home screen.
Click the name associated with your Hulu account in the upper right corner of the screen to open a drop-down menu, and then click “Account” in the drop-down menu. The Manage Your Account screen is displayed.
Click “Manage Add Ons” in the Your Subscription section. The Add-ons screen will be shown, displaying all of the add-ons available for your Hulu account.
Click the black circle with the check mark in it next to the Hulu add-on you want to remove. In this example, I’ll remove the Cinemax add-on from my Hulu account. The circle will become shaded white and feature a plus sign.
Click “Review Changes” toward the bottom of this screen. The Subscription Changes screen appears, summarizing the changes to your account and any adjustments to your Hulu bill. Click “Submit” after reviewing the changes. The You’re All Set screen will be displayed, indicating that your changes have successfully been made. Click “Start Watching Hulu” to go back to your Hulu home screen.

When you own a popular streaming device such as Roku, you can lose track of all your subscriptions. Sometimes, certain services offer free trials that automatically turn to monthly subscriptions if you’re not careful enough.
Even if something like that happens, and you’re left with an unwanted service, you should know how to cancel your subscription. This article will explain different methods of canceling your Hulu subscription on a Roku device.
If You’re Subscribed from Roku
If you’ve linked a payment gateway to your Roku account you can purchase channels and streaming services directly through the device. This allows you to manage and pay all your subscriptions from one place – your Roku player or a Roku TV.
Even if you’re unsure whether your Hulu subscription is charged through your Roku, you’ll know after you try this method out. You can unsubscribe in two ways – from your Roku player or from your online Roku account (using your web browser). Let’s cover both methods.
Cancel Hulu from a Roku Streaming Device
If you want to unsubscribe from Hulu with a Roku device, you can do it both from the channel list and the Channel Store. Follow these steps for both methods:
- Hit the “Home” button on the Roku remote to access the Home screen.
- Go to the “Channel Store” menu.
- Select “Streaming Channels.”
Alternatively, you can navigate the channel list to the right side of the screen using your remote’s arrow buttons.
- Highlight the Hulu channel.
- Press the “*” (asterisk) button on your Roku remote.
- Select “Manage subscription” to view additional options and subscription information.
- Go to “Cancel subscription.”
Confirm that you want to unsubscribe from the channel. You’ll be prompted whether you’d like to keep the channel until subscription ends or remove it right away. Since Hulu will charge you the full subscription price either way, you can keep the channel until it’s due.
Cancel Hulu Online Using Your Roku Account
If you prefer managing your subscriptions online, you can do so from Roku’s official web page. Here’s what you need to do:
- Open your web browser (on your computer, tablet, smartphone) and go to the official Roku account page.
- Enter your Roku credentials.
- Press the “Sign in” button.
- Hover with the cursor over the “Welcome [your name]” tab at the top of the screen. A dropdown menu should appear.
- Select “Manage your subscriptions.”
A new page will open, displaying all the channels that you’re subscribed to directly through Roku. You can see the subscription type (price and time period), status (active or inactive), and when it will expire.
- Locate your Hulu subscription.
- Click the “Unsubscribe” button on the right side of the Hulu icon.
Note: If you can’t find the Hulu subscription, you’re probably not subscribed through Roku. Instead, you’ll need to cancel your Hulu subscription directly via Hulu. Proceed to the next section.
Cancel Subscription Directly from Hulu
If you’ve subscribed to Hulu directly, you need to access your account on the official Hulu web page. Here’s what you need to do:
- Open your browser and go to the Hulu account page.
- Sign into your account with your Hulu credentials (or via Facebook Login).
- Hover with your mouse over your profile icon at the top-right of the Hulu Home page.
- Select “Account.”
- Find “Cancel Your Subscription” under the “Your Subscription” section.
- Click the “Cancel” button next to it.
Hulu will then offer you to pause the subscription, instead of canceling it. If you opt for this, you’ll still be able to access your account and you won’t be charged until you resume the subscription. This is a viable option if you’re still in two minds about canceling the service. If you want to subscribe permanently, proceed.
- Select the “Continue to cancel” button at the bottom-right of the screen.
- Pick a reason for your cancelation and press the same button again.
If you see a “We’ll miss ya, [your name]…” window next, just select “Go to Account.” This means that your account is canceled and that your Hulu subscription will stop. You won’t be able to access the account from your Roku either.
Different Payment Methods – Different Cancelation
As you see, your payment method affects the way that you can cancel your subscription. However, there’s no difference in subscription fee or period. The only upside of subscribing via Roku player is that all your subscriptions can be charged together, keeping them neat and organized.
On the other hand, some users prefer their subscriptions charged separately. That’s especially convenient if you didn’t want to give any payment information to Roku. Regardless of your choice – cancelation is easy.
Do you subscribe directly from Roku to all your streaming channels? Why? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
