To start using columns in your file, click the “Format” menu, point to “Columns,” and choose either two or three columns.

How to Insert a Text Box in Google Docs

PC

​Sign in to Google Docs.

Open the document.

​Place the cursor where you need a text box.

​Click “Insert” at the top, move the mouse over “Drawing” and press “New.”

​In the “Drawing” pop-up, click on the “Text box” option between “Shape” and “Image.”

Draw a text box on the “Drawing” pop-up. If you wish, you can add more text boxes here by following the above step and this one.

​Enter the text in the text box if you like.

If you wish, customize the text box with the options at the top which are after the “Image” option. Also, resize the text box if you wish by dragging its resizing handle.

Once you’re okay with the text box, click the “Save and Close” button at the top.

1. You can edit the text box in Google Docs. Here’s how: Double-click on the text box or select it and click on “Edit.” You’ll see a “Drawing” pop-up where you can make the changes you want.

2. You cannot perform the above tasks on Google Docs for Android or iPhone.

How to Insert Horizontal Line in Google Docs

PC

Here’s how you can insert a horizontal line into the desktop version of Google Docs:

​Sign in to Google Docs.

​Open the document.

Place the cursor where you need a horizontal line.

Click “Insert” at the top and then click “Horizontal line.”

To Remove Horizontal Line: Select the horizontal line by double-clicking it. Press the “Delete” key.

Android or iPhone

Let’s see how to add a horizontal line to the Google Docs app:

​Open the Google Docs app.

​Open the document.

Tap the “Pencil” icon at the bottom.

​Place the cursor where you need a horizontal line.

Tap the “+” icon at the top. In the “Insert” section, you will see the “Horizontal line” option. Tap it.

To Remove Horizontal Line in the Google Docs app: Place the cursor after it and press the “Backspace” key on your keyboard.

How to Insert En or Em Dash in Google Docs

You can insert hyphen on the Google Docs desktop version using the key between the 0 and =.

For the Google Docs app (Android and iPhone), you need to follow these steps: Press the 123 button on the keyboard and then press “-” button.

Here’s how you can insert en or em dash into the Google Docs desktop version:

Sign in to Google Docs.

Open the document you want.

Place the cursor where you want to put en or em dash.

Click Insert > Special characters.

In the search box, type dash.

You will see the en dash as the second in the search results. The third is the em dash.

Hit the one you prefer.

Android or iPhone

Let’s see how to insert en or em dash into the Google Docs app:

Open the document in the Google Docs app.

Tap the “Pencil” icon at the bottom.

Put the cursor in the desired position.

On the keyboard, tap the “?123” (if you are on Android and note that I am using Gboard) or the “123” button (if you are on iPhone). Long-press the “Hyphen” key.

You can see the en and em dash. Move your finger and choose the one you want.
