Twitter introduced its ‘Fleets’ feature which is the same as ‘Stories’ on Instagram or ‘Status’ on WhatsApp. They remain on our timeline for 24 hours before disappearing. Launched recently, Fleets, i.e., stories on Twitter, have gained a lot of traction amongst users. If you’re using a recent version of Twitter, you’ll see fleets posted by people you follow on the top of the app homescreen. Thankfully, just like Instagram, Twitter lets you mute and report fleets. So, if you find something goes against community guidelines or don’t want to see fleets from a particular person, follow our guide below to mute or report Twitter Fleets on your iPhone.

Steps to Mute Fleets on Twitter on iPhone

Any fleet will only clutter your app if it’s irrelevant or pointless. So, if fleets from any particular account are not relevant to you, you can easily mute them to stop seeing the stories posted by them. There are two ways to mute fleets on Twitter, as described below.

Method 1

This method lets you mute tweets from a particular person without even opening the story posted by them.

That’s it. The fleets posted by that particular Twitter account will no longer appear in your feed, be it on the app or web.

Wrapping Up

We hope that you now know how to mute or report Fleets on Twitter on your iPhone. Anyway, methods are more or less the same for the Android app. So, Android users, too, can follow the same guide. Anyway, are you liking Twitter fleets? Do let us know in the comments below.

How to mute fleets on twitter

  • You can mute fleets on Twitter from a specific user by tapping the down arrow on the fleet and selecting “Mute.”
  • Fleets, Twitter’s latest feature, are image, video, and text stories that automatically disappear after 24 hours.
  • You can’t mute the fleets feature entirely, but you can mute fleets from certain accounts.

Twitter lets you mute all fleets from a specific user, similar to how you can mute someone’s tweets. Whether an account is posting offensive content or things you just don’t like, the mute feature is a great tool to use to customize your Twitter experience.

In November 2020, Twitter introduced its ephemeral fleets feature, which resembles Snapchat’s Snaps or Instagram’s Stories. Users can share images, videos, text, and tweets that disappear in 24 hours.

Although you can’t mute the fleets feature entirely, you can remove fleets by certain users from the fleet bar on your Twitter app’s homepage.

How to mute fleets on Twitter using the mobile app

2. Scroll through the fleets bar at the top to find the user or account you wish to mute fleets for.

3. Once you’ve found the user you want to mute fleets for, press their profile icon to view their fleet.

4. In the fleet, tap the down arrow in the top right corner.

5. In the pop-up menu, select “Mute [user].”

After muting the user, you can select “Undo” from the dropdown menu that appears at the top of your screen to undo the action if you made a mistake.

7. Depending on what you selected, the account’s fleets will no longer appear in the fleets bar on your homepage. The account you muted will not be notified of this action.

8. To un-mute an account’s fleets, go to their profile page, tap the red volume icon beside their profile picture, and then select “Unmute Fleets” from the pop-up screen.

If you’re annoyed by Twitter Fleets, you can mute them, but it’s not as easy as you think, at least when it comes to muting all of them. There is no way to disable Fleets in general, just to be clear, we’re talking about muting them only. The thing is, you cannot mute them altogether, that would basically mean you can disable them. What you can do, however, is mute them one at a time. That would mean that you’d have to mute every single person that publishes a Fleet, if you don’t want to see a single one, which is kind of the reason why we’re publishing this.

Twitter Fleets are basically the same thing as Instagram Stories, while both Facebook and YouTube have the same feature with a different name. I, personally, don’t really use those features on any of the aforementioned apps. I’m fed up with that feature, to be quite honest. I’ve noticed that quite a few people share that opinion, at least based on the comments sent to Twitter after the company started rolling out the feature to everyone. Well, if you’re like me, you’ll probably want to mute those Fleets. Below, I’ll explain how you can do that.

How to mute fleets on twitter

This is how you can mute Twitter Fleets, though you’ll have to do it one by one

As already mentioned, you’ll need to do this one at a time. So, once someone publishes a Fleet, and that Fleet appears at the top of your timeline, tap it. Once you do, you’ll see a downward-facing arrow in the top-right corner of the display, as shown in the image below. Tap that option, and you’ll get a pop-up menu.

How to mute fleets on twitter

In this new menu, you’ll see two options. The first will allow you to report said Fleet, while the second one will allow you to mute it. We want to do the latter, of course, so you’ll need to tap that option.

How to mute fleets on twitter

Once you do that, you’ll be asked whether you want to mute Fleets only, or if you want to mute both Fleets and Tweets from the person you’ve selected. If you want to do both, go for it, but we’re here for the Fleets. So, tap the ‘Mute Fleets’ option.

How to mute fleets on twitter

That is pretty much it, you won’t see Fleets from the person you’ve muted. Doing this for every single contact that publishes a Fleet can be annoying, especially if you have a ton of contacts who publish them. If you’re really annoyed by the feature, this is definitely worth doing, as you have to do it once per person.

Doing all this won’t remove ‘Fleets’ menu from the Twitter app

Unfortunately, Twitter did not offer us an option to disable Fleets altogether. In other words, you cannot remove them from the top of your timeline. Even if you mute everyone who publishes them, that menu will still sit at the top, along with the icon that allows you to publish a new Fleet. So, muting Fleets is not an ideal solution, but at least you won’t have to look at new ones, even though that menu will still poke you in the eye.

It’s unlikely that Twitter will comply, and offer us a way to disable that menu altogether. We can hope though, and if you’re annoyed by Fleets and don’t plan to use them, submitting an opinion / request to Twitter may help things.

With just two taps, a Tweet can be uploaded to your Fleets.В You have the ability to share a Tweet in your Fleets and add your own comments with ease. Your viewers will also be able to click through on the image to go to the original Tweet.

Tap Tweet to finish Tweeting a Fleet.

How to reply to a Fleet

If you are able to Direct Message someone, at the bottom of their Fleet you will see options to Send a Message or react via DMs with an emoji.

Tap Send a Message to open the text composer and send a DM directly to the author.

Tap the emoji icon to send the DM author an emoji reaction to their Fleet.

Your Fleet reply will appear along with the post to which you were replying via DM.

Who can see my Fleets?

On the Twitter for iOS and Android app, your Fleets will appear at the top of your followers’ Home timeline. They are also accessible via your profile photo on your profile page for anyone to view if your Tweets are public. If your Tweets are protected, then your Fleets will be protected as well.

Following Snapchat Stories, almost every social media platform brought Stories in some way or the other on their platform. From Instagram to WhatsApp and now Twitter, Stories are making their way and becoming a more mainstream way to instantly consume content on smartphones. However, if you are put off by Fleets on Twitter (Twitter’s equivalent to Stories) and want to disable it straight away then you have come to the right place. Here, we show you how to disable Fleets on Twitter in a simple 3-point guide. So without further ado, let’s begin.

Disable Fleets on Twitter

1. To disable Fleets on Twitter, you will have to mute each Fleet on Twitter. Once you have muted all of the Fleets, Twitter will stop showing the Fleets bar on the top. To do so, tap and hold on a Fleet and choose “Mute @TwitterHandle”. Next, select “Mute Fleets”.

How to mute fleets on twitter

2. Once you have muted all of the Fleets, the Fleets bar on the top will simply disappear from Twitter. Note that, unlike Instagram, Twitter does not grey out Fleets from muted accounts, instead it completely removes them from the homepage.

3. To re-enable Fleets on Twitter, you need to visit the profile of the muted Twitter Handle. On the profile page, simply tap on “Unmute”. That’s it.

Turn Off Twitter Fleets on Android and iOS

So that is how you can disable Twitter Fleets from both Android and iOS devices. Currently, Twitter does not have a native option to disable Fleets. However, you can use this method to immediately turn off Fleets on Twitter. I know this is not the most effective way to disable Fleets, but as of now, there are not many options available right now. You can also try other Twitter clients to stay away from Fleets. Anyway, that is all from us. If you have any questions then do comment down below and let us know.

How to mute fleets on twitter

Twitter recently jumped on the Instagram Stories bandwagon with its own Fleets, fleeting tweets that sit in a horizontal-scrolling section at the top of your feed. Not everyone is all that enamored with the social media app’s latest feature, but there is a way to get rid of Fleets if you’re willing to put the work in.

Unfortunately, there’s no simple on/off switch for Fleets, but we can only hope Twitter will add that option at some point. In the meantime, the only recourse is to mute individual accounts. Luckily, it’s possible to mute only Fleets for an account so you can still see their regular tweets.

There are currently two ways to mute Fleets.

Option 1: Long-press an account icon in the Fleets section, select the mute option, hit “Mute Fleets.”

Option 2: Tap on a Fleet to view it, hit the down arrow in the top right corner, select the mute option, hit “Mute Fleets.”

It’s easy enough to mute a fleet from an individual account, but the annoying part is doing that for every single one until you have no Fleets left. This could be mildly frustrating or incredibly time-consuming, depending on how many of the accounts you follow are pumping out Fleets already.

The other option is to simply ignore them, which might be better for your sanity. Every time someone Fleets for the first time, you’ll have to go through the process again. It’s up to you whether that’s a good use of your time or not. Here’s hoping Twitter rolls out a global switch sometime soon.

How to mute fleets on twitter

Twitter’s take on “stories,” which is called Fleets, allows you to post disappearing media and text. But if you find stories out of place on Twitter, or simply don’t want people you follow to appear on top of your feed, you can mute them.

Unfortunately, at the moment, there’s no central kill switch that will let you get rid of Fleets altogether on Twitter. Your only option is to manually mute Fleets from individual accounts one by one.

To do so, open Twitter on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device. Scroll to the top of the Home tab to view the Fleets of those you follow.

You can only mute a Fleet from someone who has recently posted one. So, you can only hide Fleets from any avatar bubble in the row of thumbnails at the top of your Twitter feed.

To mute a Fleet, tap and hold a profile’s Fleet bubble to reveal the hidden settings. Tap “Mute @(Twitter account),” where “Twitter account” is the person’s Twitter handle.

Tap “Mute Fleets” to hide this account’s existing and future Fleets, or “Mute Fleets and Tweets” to hide that person’s tweets, as well.

Twitter will indefinitely mute Fleets from this profile, and they’ll no longer appear in your feed. The same as when you mute tweets, Twitter won’t notify someone when you mute their Fleets.

To unmute someone, visit their Twitter profile page, and then tap “Unmute” next to the “You Have Muted Fleets From This Account” message.

Twitter doesn’t remove the row reserved for Fleets, even if you mute them from all the accounts you follow, so, unfortunately, it will continue to take up space in your feed.
