How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Both Chrome and Firefox can restore bookmarks you’ve deleted, but Chrome doesn’t make it easy. Chrome contains a single, hidden bookmark backup file. You can only restore the backup file manually, and that file is frequently overwritten.

Firefox users have it easier—Firefox’s bookmark manager contains an undo feature. Firefox also performs regular, automatic bookmark backups. Firefox keeps the backups for several days and allows you to easily restore bookmarks without digging around in hidden folders.

Google Chrome

Update: Chrome’s bookmark manager now has an Undo option! To undo deleting a bookmark in the bookmark manager, press Ctrl+Z. Even if you don’t have the bookmark manager open when you deleted the bookmark, you can press Ctrl+Shift+O to open it and then use Ctrl+Z to undo deleting a bookmark. You may have to click in the list of bookmarks before pressing Ctrl+Z. (On a Mac, press Command+Z instead.)

Chrome’s bookmark manager doesn’t have an Undo option. If your finger slips, you could delete an entire folder full of bookmarks with no obvious way to recover them. If you’ve made a backup with the export option, you could import the backup—but that backup may already be out of date.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

First thing’s first. If you’ve accidentally deleted a bookmark, close all open Chrome windows, but do not reopen Chrome. If you’ve already closed Chrome, leave it closed. Chrome saves a single backup of your bookmarks file, and it overwrites that backup each time you launch Chrome.

Launch Windows Explorer and plug the following location into its address bar—replacing “NAME” with the name of your Windows user account:

The folder contains two bookmark files—Bookmarks and Bookmarks.bak. Bookmarks.bak is the most recent backup, taken when you last opened your browser.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Note: If you don’t see the .bak file extension and just see two files named Bookmarks, you’ll need to make Windows show the extensions for files. In File Explorer, head to File > Change Folder and Search Options > View, and then clear the “Hide extensions for known file types” check box. If you need more details, check out our guide to making Windows show file extensions.

To restore the backup (again, make sure all Chrome browser windows are closed), take these steps:

  1. Rename your current Bookmarks file to something like Bookmarks.old. This just preserves a copy of the current bookmarks file in case you need it.
  2. Rename your Bookmarks.bak file to just Bookmarks (removing the .bak extension). This makes Chrome load the backup file when you open it.
  3. Open Chrome, and see if you’ve managed to restore the missing bookmark.

If these steps don’t restore your bookmark, it means the backup file was saved more recently than the bookmark went missing. Unfortunately, it also means you’re out of luck, unless you’ve got a backup of your PC you can pull an even older backup file from.

Just note that using this process will also remove any bookmarks you’ve created since you last launched Chrome.

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox users have it a lot easier. If you just deleted a bookmark or bookmark folder, you can just hit Ctrl+Z in the Library window or Bookmarks sidebar to bring it back. In the Library window, you can also find the Undo command on the “Organize” menu.

Update: Press Ctrl+Shift+B in Firefox to open this Library window.

If you deleted the bookmarks a few days ago, use the Restore submenu under Import and Backup. Firefox automatically creates a backup of your bookmarks each day and stores several days’ worth.

Just be aware that restoring the backup will completely replace your existing bookmarks with the bookmarks from the backup, meaning that you’ll lose any bookmarks you’ve created since the backup was saved.

To avoid losing any important, new bookmarks, you also can use the Export Bookmarks to HTML option before restoring the backup. After the backup is restored, you can import the HTML file or view it in Firefox.

If you value your bookmarks, it’s a good idea to make regular backups with the export feature in your browser’s bookmark manager. If you ever lose your bookmarks—or have your hard drive fail—you can restore your bookmarks from the backup using the import option in any web browser.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Once upon a time, a “bookmark” was something you stuck in a book so as not to lose your reading progress. The days when it meant just that are long gone, and now bookmarks are a really useful way of getting around your preferred websites quickly and efficiently – just one click and you’re already where you need to be. Indeed, the bookmarks bar is such an invaluable tool, that losing access to some or all of its content may prove to be a serious hindrance to users that rely on it all the time. This is why deleted bookmarks can be a hassle – whether you deleted the one you currently need accidentally or because you thought you wouldn’t need it anymore, you can use this handy guide to restore it with minimal effort.

Google Chrome

In an inconvenient turn of events, Google Chrome, one of the most popular browsers currently out there, does not support bookmark recovery. You will have to go jumping through some hoops in order to recover an old deleted bookmark, but the following tried and true methods should do the trick.

Recovering Bookmarks With Windows Explorer

This method depends on Chrome’s backup timing, which means it only works if you have just deleted a bookmark – you can’t use it to recover older information.

    1. Close all open Google Chrome windows.
    2. Do not reopen Google Chrome, as doing so will overwrite the file you wish to recover, making a recovery with this method impossible.
    3. Open Windows Explorer and copy the following location into its address bar:
      C:\Users\[User account name]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

Note: Naturally, the [User account name] in the following address should be replaced with the user’s own Windows account name.

    1. This address will open a folder containing two bookmark files. One is named “Bookmarks” and “Bookmarks.bak.” Here’s where the clever bit of manipulation comes in.
    2. Rename your Bookmarks file to something else. Doesn’t matter what name you choose. You can even delete it, if you like.
    3. Rename the “Bookmarks.bak” to “Bookmarks”. This effectively means that instead of a list of your new bookmarks overriding your old bookmarks, a list of your old bookmarks will be kept intact.

Note: using this method will delete any bookmarks you’ve accumulated since you last launched Google Chrome.

  1. Input “bookmarks” into the search bar located on the upper right corner of the window, then press enter.
  2. You will be presented with a “bookmarks.back” file. Select that file, then drag it and drop them to the box provided on this website.Note: this is not an official Google product.
  3. You will then receive a message saying that “The download is ready.” Click the link to download all the HTML files.
  4. Open all of the downloaded files using Google Chrome until you find the bookmarks you wish to restore.
  5. Once you have located the bookmarks, open Google Chrome.
  6. Select the menu icon.
  7. Go to Bookmarks.
  8. Select Bookmark Manager.
  9. Go to “Organize”.
  10. Select “Import bookmarks from HTML file”.
  11. Upload the HTML file with your bookmarks.
  12. Once the upload is finished, you should have all your bookmarks back.

Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox users will find restoring deleted bookmarks a lot easier than Google Chrome users. If you deleted an important bookmark or bookmark folder just now, you could use the universal “Undo” command – press Ctrl+Z – while in the Library window or Bookmarks sidebar. This should bring it back. If you are currently in the Library window, you should also be able to find the Undo command on the “Organize” menu.

In our Windows computer we use a good amount of software on a daily basis that is useful to us. But at the moment one of the most widespread and used at the moment are Internet browsers. With this we talk about applications of the importance of Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge , etc.

As I’m sure most of you already know, these programs, whether we use them on a desktop PC or on a mobile phone, are packed with functions . These allow us to get the most out of the applications and navigate the Internet in the best possible way. And is that browsers must combine the functionality they offer us, with security, something very important here. These are the platforms that give us access to the vastness of the Internet, so we must take precautions to protect our data.

What are web browser bookmarks

In the same way, the browsers themselves must put at our disposal everything we need so that we can use them with confidence. It must be taken into account that, with the passage of time, each time we expose a greater amount of our own data. These also tend to be sensitive in many cases, so we must prevent them from falling into the wrong hands. Well, among the many functionalities that we are going to find here, in these same lines we want to focus on one of the most used elements, bookmarks.

Specifically, we are going to talk about some of these due to their widespread use by most users almost constantly. It must be borne in mind that these markers to which we refer have been with us for a long time, so we have been accumulating them. Specifically, we refer to browser objects that allow us to save our favorite web pages in the program. As you can imagine, what makes it easier for us later on is being able to access them with a simple click without having to memorize URLs .

Well, in this specific case we are going to focus on the markers of the most used program of this type around the world. This has long been Google Chrome , the search giant’s proposal preferred by the vast majority of users.

Recover bookmarks from Google Chrome

As we mentioned, this is a useful function that allows us to save the websites that we use the most. This extends to the vast majority of programs of this type, so that we can always have them at hand or save new websites that we have discovered to be able to visit them comfortably in the future. But of course, it may be the case that by carelessness or without realizing it, we erase these markers. This can become a serious problem, especially if we have been collecting them for years in the browser itself.

Locate the backup of bookmarks

It is for all this that below we are going to give you an interesting solution in the event that you encounter this problem. We must bear in mind that the recovery process is not complicated, but you have to know how to carry it out. So let’s see the easiest way to recover deleted Google Chrome bookmarks , for whatever reason. The first thing we should know at this point is that there is a saved file on the hard drive that acts as a backup for Chrome bookmarks. Because of this, therefore the first thing we will do is open a Windows File Explorer window. We can do this through the combination of keys Win + E, and then go to the following disk path: C: UsersUSER_NAMEAppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser DataDefault.

This is the general path in which the file that we tell you is saved by default. It is evident that it can vary in some cases, in addition to locating ourselves in the name of users corresponding to each team. Well, once we have located the folder to which we refer, at that moment we must look for two files . One of them will have the name of Bookmarks, in addition to another with the same name pro with the extension .bak.

It is worth mentioning that the first of these has the information corresponding to the current bookmarks that we have saved in Chrome . On the other hand, the second one, Bookmarks.bak , saves a backup copy of them in case of an accident. Therefore it is precisely in this where we have the bookmarks that we have just accidentally deleted and that we want to recover.

Convert the backup

Therefore, what we have to do next is copy the file we are talking about, Bookmarks.bak, and then paste it in another path. For example we can store a copy of it on the Windows desktop. Now we are going to convert it, for which we are going to use a useful web application. This is called Chrome Bookmarks Recovery Tool and as you can imagine, it is in charge of helping us to recover from Chrome bookmarks. To use it online we only have to access this link .

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Therefore, once we access the indicated URL, we have to drag the .Bak file to the interface of the commented web application. At that time we can see how it generates an HTML file so that we can download it to the PC . Say that this contains all the bookmarks stored by the browser over time. Obviously, those that we had accidentally deleted and that we are recovering are included here.

Import lost bookmarks to Chrome

To finish the recovery process, now what we have to do is open a new Google Chrome window. In it, we access the program menu to click on the bookmarks section / Import bookmarks and settings.

This takes us to the program’s configuration page where a window opens in which we have to select the bookmarks HTML file option from the drop-down list.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

After that we click on the Import button so that we can now select the new file that we download from Chrome Bookmarks Recovery Tool. Thus, with this, we make all the bookmarks appear again in Chrome, including the deleted ones.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Nếu bạn đã xóa dấu trang vài ngày trước, hãy sử dụng menu con Khôi phục trong Nhập và Sao lưu. Firefox tự động tạo bản sao lưu dấu trang của bạn mỗi ngày và lưu trữ giá trị trong vài ngày.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

I lost my Chrome bookmarks!

Losing your bookmarks in Chrome is terrifying. But if you want to recover missing or deleted bookmarks, this article can help. We’ll walk you through the recovery steps so you can get your bookmarks back (plus explain how to back up Chrome bookmarks for the future).

1. Immediately find a device that’s not connected to the internet

This step is time sensitive, so don’t wait. If you have a device that wasn’t connected to the internet at the time your bookmarks were deleted, grab it. Immediately turn off Wi-Fi so it can’t connect to the internet.

Now you can either:

Manually copy and paste your Chrome bookmarks into a text document. It’s a little time-consuming, but at least your bookmarks are safe. This works best if your bookmarks are organized into folders, because “Copy” will grab all of the links in that folder.

Download your bookmarks as an HTML file (make sure the internet is still turned off):

  1. Type chrome://bookmarks into your browser.
  2. Click the three-dot button and select Export bookmarks.
  3. Save the file to a safe location.

Close all of your other Google Chrome sessions. Now it’s safe to turn your internet back on. Once you’re online, come back here and click Import bookmarks . Your bookmarks should be completely restored.

2. Find the Google Chrome bookmark file on your computer

If Step 1 doesn’t work, you can likely still recover bookmarks from a file on your computer.

  1. Follow these instructions for finding the Chrome bookmark file on Mac, PC, or Linux.
  2. Copy the file and save it to a safe place.
  3. Go back to chrome://bookmarks, click the three-dot button, and click Import bookmarks to upload the file. Your bookmarks should reappear.

Alternatively, if you have a Mac you can use Time Machine to restore the file. Follow the detailed instructions here →

3. Get Workona so this doesn’t happen again

We recommend adding Workona to Chrome so you never have to worry about lost bookmarks again. Workona automatically saves all of your work in the browser, including bookmarks, open tabs, and entire browsing sessions. Think of it as a reliable, hands-off way to back up Chrome bookmarks!

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Have you ever accidentally deleted a bookmark in Google Chrome? There isn’t any easy way to undo this, so unless you can remember the sites that you’ve nuked, they might seem gone for good. But, here’s an automated backup system that lets you restore them.

Google Chrome automatically creates a backup of your bookmarks each time you launch Chrome from a closed state. This is a lesser-known feature, and it can save your butt if you accidentally delete a bookmark or, even worse, a group of bookmarks.

Accidents happen. The delete key is easy to hit. And unlike Internet Explorer, deleted Chrome bookmarks don’t go to the recycle bin –- they get permanently erased on the spot. The only chance of recovery is a backup, so the automated backup is your best bet unless you regularly export/backup your bookmarks. The only side effect is that any new bookmarks you’ve created since launching Chrome will also be lost unless you back them up right away.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

If you’ve just accidentally deleted a bookmark, whatever you do, don’t close and re-open Chrome. You will lose your backup file. You need to swap the automated backup file first. It’s located at the following location in Windows 7.

Find the file named Bookmarks and Bookmarks.bak. To see the .bak extension, you’ll need to have File Extensions set to Visible. The plain Bookmarks file is your current set, including the accidental deletion. You don’t want it. But before you do anything, it’s a good idea to exit Chrome entirely.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Right-click on the Google Chrome icon from the taskbar and select Close all windows.

Be careful that you do not re-open Google Chrome yet. Doing so will overwrite the backup file.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Head back to your default folder and delete the (current) plain Bookmarks file. Then, rename Bookmarks.bak and remove the .bak extension to match the name of the file you just deleted.

In the end result, you’ll have one Bookmarks file in your default folder; the one that used to be Bookmarks.bak.

Check if you can recover your bookmarks using the following instructions: You have to do this manually and we have the steps you need to follow below. Step 1 open windows explorer and pastes the location:

I recently responded to a prompt from the Chrome browser (on Windows 7) without fully understanding the question. Lesson learned, the hard way. This carelessness wiped out my carefully curated bookmarks, which had never been backed up.

The good news is that, at least on Windows 7, all may not be lost. Even without Google/Chrome backups, I was able to recover the bookmarks thanks to a suggestion I found on YouTube.

Many online suggestions for recovering Chrome bookmarks on Windows involve files called “Bookmarks” and “Bookmarks.bak”. Swapping these files may help in some instances, but in my case, both files were the same size, had the same very recent timestamp and were very small. No doubt, if the backup bookmark file had my bookmarks it would have been larger than the original file.

Things looked bleak until I ran across a video from February 2014 called “How to recover bookmarks in Google Chrome” by YouTube user GRkostas10611. The key idea in the video was not to deal with Chrome but to deal with Windows.

Restore Points in Windows 7 backup both system files and user files. The user files backup is totally transparent. Personally, I had never paid any attention to the feature at all other than initially configuring System Restore on a new computer (shown below).

Of course Windows doesn’t know anything about Chrome bookmarks. To recover bookmarks, the video suggested recovering the folder where they live. Over time, this may change, but at least now (Chrome version 39.0.2171.95) Chrome stores bookmarks in the “User Data” folder located under

The process is easy; navigate to the User Data folder in Windows Explorer, right click on it and get the properties. Go to the Previous Versions tab and, if you are lucky, there will be a list of available backups. To restore a folder backup, highlight it and click the Restore button. If all goes well, you should see the message below that “The folder has been successfully restored to the previous version”.

The video doesn’t suggest making a backup of the folder before recovering it, but it would be the wise thing to do. It’s also a good idea to shut down Chrome before recovering the User Data folder. In my case, the only available backup was six days old, your mileage, of course, will vary.

Without my bookmarks, the User Data folder was 172 megabytes. After the restore, it had ballooned up to 550 MB. Most of the space was in a folder called “Default” which had not existed before the restore.

The backup that I restored was dated December 23rd, but after the restore, there were files in the User Data folder with a timestamp of the current day, the 29th. I can only assume that Windows restores the files it has, but does not delete files it has not backed up. The recovery process is thus more of a merge than a full restore.

Whatever the process, my beloved bookmarks had been restored.

Still, the first time Chrome ran after the restore, it wasn’t all that happy. As you can see below, it didn’t think it had shut down correctly, the Chrome menu was orange and it wanted me to sign in again.

The heck with that – the first thing I did was backup the newly restored bookmarks to an HTML file. The process is simple (see Import or export bookmarks) and, needless to say, I’ll be doing it more often.

Some of the YouTube comments note that this approach does not work on Windows 8. I mostly avoid Windows 8, but a HowToGeek article from May 2014 confirms that Windows 8 Restore Points no longer include user files.

Days later, I realized another way to restore the bookmarks – from an image backup. As someone concerned with Defensive Computing, I make periodic image backups of the machines I maintain. As a rule, image backup programs let you view the files included in a previous backup and copy them from the backup to a computer.

I conclude with some words I never expected to write: thank you Microsoft.

Michael Horowitz is an independent consultant who has long been focused on Defensive Computing.

Whenever I buy or build a new computer system I make sure that some data stored on the old system is migrated to the new system. Bookmarks are one data set that I migrate to every computer.
I have a collection of a few hundred sites in my bookmarks that I use regularly thanks to browsers recommending bookmarks when entering text into the address bar.

A corrupt or accidentally deleted bookmarks file could have a serious impact on my work day. Most modern web browsers come with synchronization and backup options that can be used to restore data in the browser. The majority of those features need to be activated though before they can be used to restore data and most require that you create an account before you can get started.

Firefox users who cannot access all or part of their bookmarks anymore can make use of the browser’s built-in restoration option to restore bookmarks in the browser. This feature is enabled by default.

Here is how it is done

Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-Shift-b to open the bookmarks manager. Locate the Import and Backup menu at the top and click it to display its menu options.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Move the mouse cursor over the Restore menu to display a list of bookmark backups that can be restored. Firefox by default backs up the bookmarks once per day (if the browser is used).

These backups are stored by Firefox in the profile folder under bookmarkbackups. The bookmarks are stored as json files which means that you cannot simply open them locally or in the browser to access them.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Click on a date to restore that bookmarks backup in the browser. Please note that Firefox will overwrite the existing bookmarks with the backup. Bookmarks that you have added in the meantime will not be available once the restoration has completed.

Firefox users can make use of the export bookmarks to HTML in the same menu to create a manual backup of their current bookmarks file. It is always a good idea to backup the file before restorations. This manual copy can then be restored by selecting the Import bookmarks from HTML option in the same menu.

Bookmarks can also also be backed up as JSON files instead by selecting the Backup option of the menu. These bookmark backups can then be restored via the Restore > Choose File option.

Firefox users can alternatively configure the synchronization option under Alt-key > Tools > Set Up Sync to synchronize the bookmarks with a cloud server so that they can be downloaded to any system running Firefox Sync provided you sign in with the same account on it.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Firefox-käyttäjillä on helpompi – Firefoxin kirjanmerkkien hallinta sisältää kumoamisominaisuuden. Firefox suorittaa myös säännöllisiä, automaattisia kirjanmerkkisiä varmuuskopioita. Firefox pitää varmuuskopiot useiden päivien ajan ja voit helposti palauttaa kirjanmerkit kaivamalla piilotettuja kansioita.

Google Chrome

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Ensimmäinen asia on ensimmäinen.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

  1. Nimeä nykyinen kirjanmerkkitiedosto uudelleen kirjanmerkiksi Bookmarks.old.

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox-käyttäjillä on paljon helpompaa.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Firefox holder backuperne i flere dage og giver dig mulighed for nemt at gendanne bogmærker uden at grave rundt i skjulte mapper.

    Google Chrome

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Mappen indeholder to bogmærkefiler-Bogmærker og bogmærker.bak.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

    What to Know

    • Hands down easiest: go to the page, click the solid star in the URL bar and select Remove.
    • To use the bookmark manager, go to chrome://bookmarks/ > to the right of the bookmark you want to delete >Delete.
    • To delete all bookmarks, go to the bookmark manager, select all and click Delete.

This article explains how to delete a single bookmarked page or all Chrome bookmarks at once on a computer or with the Chrome mobile app.

    What Are Chrome Bookmarks?

Bookmarking is a system that web browsers such as Chrome use to make it easier to find specific web pages. Instead of writing down a long universal resource locator (URL) or searching for a page every time, you can click a single button in Chrome to bookmark any web page for access later.

If you end up with too many bookmarks to manage, you can organize them into folders or remove the ones you don’t use frequently.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

    Why Delete Chrome Bookmarks?

Chrome bookmarks are easy to create, either intentionally or accidentally. You may accidentally bookmark a page when trying to type a new URL, open a new tab, or interact with one of your plug-ins. When that happens, it’s a good idea to remove the bookmark to avoid clutter immediately.

The other reason to remove bookmarks is that they accumulate over time, and you can end up with an unmanageable mess of old bookmarks that you no longer need. If you’re ready for a fresh start, remove all your bookmarks in one fell swoop.

How to Delete a Chrome Bookmark From the Web Page

There are two ways to delete a Chrome bookmark: from the bookmarked web page itself and using Chrome’s Bookmarks manager.

Going to the bookmarked web page provides the fastest way to remove a bookmark if you only have one or a few to remove. Here’s how:

Open the Chrome web browser on your computer and go to the web page you want to remove from your bookmarks.

When the page opens, click or press the solid star at the right end of the URL bar.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

The star is solid on a bookmarked web page. If the star is hollow instead of solid, the page isn’t bookmarked. In that case, clicking the star bookmarks the web page.

Click Remove in the drop-down menu to delete the bookmark to the web page.

How to Delete a Bookmark Using the Chrome Bookmark Manager

If you don’t remember the URL of the bookmark you want to delete, you can find it in the Chrome Bookmarks manager. Here’s how:

Open Chrome and enter chrome://bookmarks/ in the URL field.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Locate the bookmark you want to delete. If you have several folders listed in the sidebar, you may need to look through more than one folder to find it.

If you don’t see the bookmark while scrolling through the list, use the search box at the top of the Bookmarks manager to locate it.

Click or tap the (three dots) icon to the right of the bookmark you want to delete.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

You can also right-click the bookmark and delete it instead of clicking the icon.

Click or tap Delete in the pop-up menu.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Repeat this process for each additional bookmark you want to delete.

How to Delete All Your Chrome Bookmarks

If you want to delete all your Chrome bookmarks and start fresh, use the Bookmark manager. Here’s how to remove all your Chrome bookmarks at once:

Open Chrome and go to the Bookmarks manager by entering chrome://bookmarks/ in the URL field.

If you have more than one folder listed in the sidebar, select the folder that contains the bookmarks you want to delete.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

Folders in the sidebar are independent of each other, so you need to delete each one separately if you want to remove all your bookmarks.

Click in the list of bookmarks and type CTRL+A (Command+A on a Mac) on your keyboard to select every bookmark in the folder. They should all be highlighted.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

    Click Delete.

How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks in chrome & firefox

    This process can’t be undone.

If you have other bookmark folders to delete, click the next folder in the sidebar and repeat this process.

How to Delete Bookmarks in the Chrome App

The process of deleting bookmarks differs in the Chrome mobile app.

Open the Chrome app on your mobile device. Tap the three-dot icon to open a menu.

    Tap Bookmarks in the menu,

If you have multiple folders, tap a folder to open it and display the bookmarks it contains.

How do I recover a bookmark accidentally deleted?

    Posted December 19th, 2009, 2:27 pm

One amazing bug with firefox is how easy it is to delete bookmarks and entire folders of bookmarks WITHOUT SO MUCH AS AN “ARE YOU SURE” PROMPT. Incredible. Seriously, what is wrong with firefox developers?

Well I accidentally deleted a bookmark because hitting delete in the context menu is just too bloody easy. Is there a fix for this (such as an add on that adds an “are you sure” prompt)? Is there a way to recover a lost bookmark (or massive folder of bookmarks that was too easily deleted)? Good grief. Even IE asks you if you’re sure when you try to delete a bookmark.

Do you have the Delicious extension or other extensions or code in userChrome.css that can hide the Bookmarks menu item?

You can start Firefox in Safe mode to check if it is caused by an extension or theme (switch to the DEFAULT theme).
If starting in Safe-mode works then disable your extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions or use the option in the Safe-mode window) and re-enable them one by one until you find which one is causing it.
Close and restart Firefox after each change.

It should be there default on Windows version. “File .. Edit .. View .. History .. Bookmarks .. Tools .. Help”

As dickvl said the two menus could be hidden for some reason.

I don’t have the delicious extension, or any other bookmarks related extension, but I do have a lot of add ons, and one of them must be disabling the bookmarks menu item. I wish I knew which one.

Thank you for the ctrl shift B idea. I’ve never opened the library before and didn’t know it existed.
