TikTok, which is currently the frontline of viral video content, is a social media app that allows people to record, edit, and share short videos. However, if you encounter any sexual, violent, or otherwise inappropriate content on the app, you can easily file a report.

How to Report a TikTok Video

As you scroll through the videos in your TikTok feed, you might see content that violates any number of the app’s rules or community guidelines, or even laws. To report a video, tap “Share” in the bottom-right corner.

In the next menu, tap “Report.”

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

Select the reason for your report—you might need to choose a more specific reason on the following screen.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

You can then provide screenshots and describe why you’re reporting the video. When you’re done, tap “Submit.”

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

As stated on the final report page, if someone is in immediate physical danger, contact your local law enforcement.

If the video is appropriate content that just doesn’t interest you, tap and hold in the middle of the video until a small menu appears. From there, tap “Not Interested.”

You can also tap “More” to hide all videos either from that person or with that sound (background music or audio).

How to Report a TikTok Account

If an entire account regularly posts inappropriate content or misleading information, you can report that, as well. To do so, tap the Account button (the account’s avatar).

Tap the three-dot icon at the top-right of the Account page. Select “Report,” and then select the reason for which you’re reporting the account. Again, you might need to choose a more specific reason on the following screen.

You can then provide screenshots and a description of your report. When you’re done, tap “Submit.”

How to Report a Comment on TikTok

Part of the engagement aspect of TikTok is responding to comments on videos. Like most places on the internet, people sometimes leave nasty or inappropriate messages.

To report a particular comment, tap and hold on it until a small menu appears. Select “Report” and provide the reason (and another more specific reason) for your report.

You can then add any additional comments or screenshots. When you’re done, tap “Submit” to send TikTok the report.

Part of the allure of social media is its “Wild West” nature. Fortunately, these tools (and more, like Family Safety Mode) can help you regulate the kind of content you see on TikTok.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

TikTok isn’t the first short-video creation tool (Dubsmash and the now-defunct Vine came before). But its perfect blend of popular songs, fun editing features, and viral challenges have made it one of the most downloaded apps in the world. Tweens and teens use it mainly to express their creativity, get goofy, connect with friends, and follow celebrities.

But the platform can be a little edgy — especially in the comments, which are open to all registered users identified only by screen names. Those registered users include adults, and the anonymity of screen names combined with the envelope-pushing nature of some of the content can lead to age-inappropriate comments. In fact, the comments can be downright gross. If your kids are going to use TikTok, discuss how to handle online bullying, and empower them to stop harassment by blocking or reporting users who bother them in any way. If they’re targeted, you may need to escalate the issue to your kid’s school, the harasser’s parents, or — if threats are involved — law enforcement. Also, remind your kids to stand up for others when they witness bullying.

Here’s how to block and report cyberbullies on TikTok. And if you’re worried about the other person knowing you’ve blocked or reported them, TikTok doesn’t send a notification. After you’ve blocked them, they won’t see you in their Following list anymore, and if they tap on any old tags or comments on your videos, they won’t be able to see those videos anymore.

To report or block a person, video, comment, or chat

Report a person:

  • Go to their profile.
  • Tap on the three dots.
  • Tap Report or Block.
  • Tap on the right-facing arrow on the video page under the heart and comment icons.
  • Tap Report.

Report a comment:

  • Tap and hold the comment.
  • Tap Report.

Report inappropriate chat message:

  • Open the conversation.
  • Tap on the three dots.
  • Tap on Report.

TikTok removed 81,518,334 hate and harassment videos in the last three months. Neat!

Is any social media platform truly troll-free? My theory is that LinkedIn will be our last bastion of exclusively earnest posting. In the meantime, TikTok continues to update ways for users to limit the hate and harassment thrown their way.

According to their Q2 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report earlier this week, TikTok removed 81,518,334 hate and harassment videos in just the last three months. Sure, that’s a devastating number in terms of the sheer magnitude of hate (assuming the bulk of those community violations are actual hate, and not just videos featuring the fearsome female nipple ). At the same time, it’s a hopeful number in terms of TikTok’s efforts to handle hate on their end, rather than putting that burden on individual users. For instance, last July TikTok added a feature that prompts users to consider whether their comment is inappropriate or unkind before they post it; nevertheless, trolls persist.

Whether you’re a TikTok creator or want to keep your TikTok-ing kids safe, here are the tools to keep the experience as troll-free as possible.

Going LIVE? Use the updated mute settings

Following their report, TikTok is rolling out updated mute settings for comments and questions during livestreams, including the removal of muted individuals’ comment histories that viewers can see. TikTokers have always had the option to block accounts or remove the ability to comment on their posts (more on that below), but that route introduces a major roadblock to how to get views from audiences who aren’t nasty little trolls.

Father’s Day CBD Bundle

Send Dad flowers
Well, send him a bundle of calming CBD products made from USDA-certified organic, Kentucky-grown, whole-flower hemp oil, at least.

For the uninitiated: “Going LIVE” allows TikTokers to connect with their followers in real-time using comments; on the flip side, these livestreams give trolls a real-time channel to harass TikTokers. In a blog announcement titled “Our continued fight against hate and harassment,” Eric Han, head of U. S. Safety at TikTok, wrote that “livestreaming on TikTok is an exciting way for creators and viewers to connect, and we’re building safety into the experience by design. We hope these new controls further empower hosts and audiences alike to have safe and entertaining livestreams.”

Quick anecdotal aside: As a creator, livestreams significantly boost views on your most recent video. This (unofficial) incentive for TikTokers makes sense from a business perspective: L ivestreams are a hub for viewers to donate to hosts through in-app purchases.

But e ven if you aren’t going LIVE, you can still take steps to block accounts and filter comments on all your videos.

Comment filters

You have a few options to filter comments. First, tap the Profile tab at the bottom of your home page and select the settings menu— those three horizontal dashes— at the top of the screen.

Under the Account page that pops up, choose Privacy and scroll down to Comments (under the Safety subheading). From the comment filters section, you’ll see options for “Filter all comments,” “Filter spam and offensive comments,” and “Filter keywords.”

  • Filter all comments: Prevent any comments from appearing on your posts without your approval. If you want to approve which comments show up under your videos, click on the “review filter comments” at the bottom of the screen.
  • Filter spam and offensive comments: The mystical algorithm takes a stab at identifying potentially harmful comments and prevents them from showing up on your posts (unless you approve them).
  • Filter keywords: Choose certain keywords and block any comments that include them from appearing in your posts without your approval. Personally, I’m about to filter “Shaun White” so people will stop pointing out just how much I look like him.

Block accounts

Sometimes you just need to block a troll at the source. Go to their account and tap the settings button in the top right corner of their profile page. Next, tap Block and select Confirm. This prevents the blocked account from seeing your profile or any of your content in their feed. Also under the Safety tab, you can choose who can or cannot send you direct messages.

Protect your videos

To keep your account safe without going fully private, you can play around with all the video settings in the Privacy menu. Consider whether you want people to duet, stitch, and download your videos.

Hate and bullying are highly contextual issues, so if you’re interested in how TikTok aims to make their platform a safer environment, I recommend reading their most recent report here .

If you’re concerned about your privacy, TikTok might not be the app for you. Its shady practices with user data have been the subject of concern, criticism, and even legal action by the US government. Then again, it’s just so addicting. If, like me, you’re not going to stop using TikTok anytime soon, you should at least know how to view the personal data it has collected on you.

While it’s great that TikTok even has an option for downloading your personal data, it isn’t well implemented. While things have improved since Mashable gave TikTok an “F” rating for accessible user data reports, there’s one serious flaw in the process — it can take up to an entire month to receive your data. With the amount I use TikTok, I’ll have hours of new data generated in that time that simply won’t make it into the downloadable record.

What Data Can You Download?

TikTok includes three main categories of data it allows you to download: “Your Profile,” “Your Activity,” and “Your App Settings.” Unfortunately, unlike other social media apps, you can’t pick and choose the data you want to receive. It’s all or nothing. Here’s what you can expect to see in your report:

Your Profile

  • Username
  • Profile photo
  • Profile Description
  • Contact information

Your Activity

  • Videos
  • Comments
  • Chat history
  • Purchase history
  • Like list
  • Favorite list

Your App Settings

  • Privacy and safety settings
  • Push notifications
  • Languages

How Do You Request Your Data?

First, head to your profile, then tap the vertical or horizontal ellipsis in the top right. Next, tap “Privacy and safety,” then “Personalization and data.” Now, tap “Download TikTok Data.” Once the page loads, you’ll see a list of the data your request will contain, which we covered in the section above.

You’ll find a large, red “Download” button at the bottom. You only need to tap that button once to begin the request. TikTok will switch over automatically to the “Download Data” tab, with your pending request visible on-screen. Once your data comes in, you’ll find it here. Just make sure to download it fast, as TikTok will remove it only four days after it’s created.

You don’t have to keep checking “Download Data” to see if your download is ready. The app will send you a notification whenever it’s finally available, and you can expect that alert to end up in the “Inbox” tab in the “Account Updates” activity.

There’s a trend going around the app purporting to show off a view-counter hidden in the settings, but there currently exists no way to know how many TikToks you’ve consumed in your account’s lifetime. Hey, I should be able to know precisely how many TikToks I’ve wasted my life on.

So if there’s one piece of information we’d like to see TikTok include here, it’s how many TikToks you’ve watched and which ones. The report may very well contain that information, but TikTok hasn’t responded to us yet about it, and we’ve yet to receive any data dumps we’ve asked for in the app.

On an app as popular as TikTok, there’s bound to be content that’s less-than-suitable for the platform. You might find a video on your For You page that makes you uncomfortable or that you believe might be harmful to certain viewers. When you find this type of content, you have the option to report it — but is that report anonymous? Here’s what happens when you report a video.

Is it anonymous when you report a video on TikTok?

Reporting a video you come across on your TikTok feed is actually pretty simple. Before you file a report, though, make sure that the video actually violates either the app’s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, and that you’re not just reporting it because you don’t agree with its content.

To report a video, select the share button in the bottom right corner of the screen and select the “Report” icon. Then, pick why you believe the video should not be on the platform.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

There are a variety of reasons you might want a video to be removed from TikTok, such as including hate speech, showing harassment of others, pornography, or endangering minor safety. Make sure to click “Submit” once you’ve chosen your reasoning for reporting the video.

You can also report an account by visiting the user’s profile and selecting the three dots in the upper right-hand corner. Click “Report” and follow the same steps as above.

Reporting a video on TikTok is an entirely anonymous process, so the user you’re reporting will not know you are the person reporting their content.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

What happens when you report a video on TikTok?

Reporting a video on TikTok means you believe it goes against the app’s Terms of Service or Community Guidelines and that you’d like the company to review it. A couple of things can happen when you report a video: TikTok can either take it down or decide to leave it up, depending on whether or not it’s found to violate the Community Guidelines.

When you report a video, you’ll select what part of the Community Guidelines you feel it violates, then TikTok puts it under review. Depending on how many times this video or account has been reported, the account may temporarily be suspended from posting or commenting while their content is being reviewed.

TikTok removed my video where I literally just crash cars in GTA for “violent and graphic content” it had 1.2M views in 22 hours too 🥲 pic.twitter.com/eGH4fI5ya9

If TikTok does not find the video in violation of its guidelines, the app will notify you to let you know it decided not to remove the video. You then have the option to report the video again or to block the account, so you no longer see that user’s content.

If the video is found in violation of the Community Guidelines, it’ll be removed and the user will receive a strike against their account. If they receive too many strikes, their account will be suspended.

There is not a set number of reports a video needs to have to be removed, though the more reports it receives from different users, the more likely it is to be taken down from the site. Strikes against a creator’s account also affect their eligibility for the Creator Fund, and if they receive too many strikes, they won’t be eligible to get financial compensation for their videos.

As a TikTok expert, you probably know how to make a TikTok video, how to do TikTok caption, or how to apply for a TikTok Pro account, but you may not know that the latest TikTok update (version 16.0.4) has finally included the “reply to a comment with a video” feature on Apr 15th.

Despite being pretty strict on content and communication policies, TikTok is not immune to abuses. In fact, some criminal charges have been raised regarding the abuse of underage users. And the saddening fact is that there’ll always be criminal minds who try to take advantage of an otherwise fun and well-meaning social network.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

Even online bullying can be heart-wrenching, even though there’s usually nothing criminal about it. So you shouldn’t think twice about blocking and reporting a user that’s been giving you a hard time. Keep reading to find out how to do it.

    Blocking People on TikTok

There’s not much to blocking or reporting a user on TikTok – the actions are pretty much the same as with most other social network platforms. Nevertheless, it pays to take a close look at the required steps.

    Step 1

Launch the app and find the person you’d like to block. The great thing is that you don’t need to follow the person to initiate the block.

Once you see a post of that person, tap on their username, and select the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the screen.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

    Step 2

As soon as you do that, a pop-up window with more actions appears. Tap the “Block” button below different sharing options, and you’re good to go.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

You can also report a user here. Tap on the “Report” button, and TikTok will take you to the “Select a reason” window. You need to tick a few boxes before submitting, but the menus are intuitive and user-friendly, so it shouldn’t take you more than a minute to report someone.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

    Important Notes

TikTok informs you that the report has been sent via a small notification. However, it’s still unclear if you get any feedback after the platform processes your request. For example, something like an email saying that the person who impersonates you has got banned from the platform. If you have any experience with this, feel free to share it in the comments section below.

On the other hand, the user gets immediately blocked, and the content from the profile disappears. The platform logs your preferences, and you won’t see posts from that user in the feed. Plus, there is an option to manage your blocks.

How to Manage Blocked Users on TikTok

To see the users you’ve blocked and maybe undo the action, tap on the ‘Profile’ icon at the bottom right of the screen. Then hit the three horizontal lines to access the ‘More’ menu.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

Select “Privacy” under the Account tab and swipe all the way down in the next window. Tap “Block accounts”. Tap the “Unblock” button if the person no longer deserves to be there.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

With this in mind, there’s more to the “Privacy” window than just the list of blocked users. Check out how to keep your profile safe from hate speech, online bullies, and downright digital criminals.

    Tweaking TikTok Safety Features

It’s worth noting that the Safety options and menus are under the “Privacy” window. Since you already know how to get there, we won’t reiterate the steps.

Anyway, there are seven different options to filter the content you get, and others can see. First, there is a menu to restrict comments on your posts and prevent others from Dueting with you. By default, both features are set to Everyone, though you set them to Friends or disable them altogether.

The same applies to TikTok reactions, but the cool thing is that you can limit the users who are allowed to message you to just Friends. The app should be set like that from the get-go, and you can also turn off messages altogether.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

There are options to let others know which videos you like, set comment filters, and allow downloads of your videos. Offensive and spammy comments are automatically filtered, though there is a button to disable the feature. You can also filter comments based on specific keywords.

Both of these features are quite useful for your child’s TikTok account, and if you use the platform for marketing and promotion.

    Other Things You Can Report

Safety features are out of the way; you should know that there is also an option to block or report individual comments, videos, as well as chat messages.

To report a comment, tap the chatbox on the right in the video preview window. Swipe the comments and tap and hold the one you’d like to report. When a pop-up window appears, you hit “Report,” and explain the reasons. If you want to report the video itself, tap the arrow icon at the bottom right of the screen and choose “Report.”

Reporting individual chat messages is similar to blocking/reporting users. Once you’re inside the chat, hit the three vertical dots, and choose Report or Block. And if the user’s really rude, don’t hesitate to do both.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Will TikTok notify the user if I block them?

No. TikTok gives no notifications or indicators to the other person that you’ve blocked them. They will only see that they can no longer message you and can no longer view your content.

However, if you choose to unblock the user at a later date you will need to tap the ‘Follow’ button again on their profile to send a follow request. This is a pretty good indication that something was amiss and you may want to be prepared to answer questions.

    Final TikTok Block

Without a doubt, social networks like TikTok are here to stay, and there will always be people who will look for ways to abuse them. Therefore, it’s essential to be smart about using the platform and try to keep things as private and as fun as possible.

Who’s bothering you on TikTok? Have you already blocked them? Share your experience with the rest of the TechJunkie community in the comments section below.

With most of us sitting at homes and using social media apps to communicate and read news, there have been instances where hackers have tried to take benefit from it in one way or the other. And as a part of keeping your data as safe as possible, it is important to keep your social handles secure. TikTok is one of the popular social media apps out there with millions of users and someone invading your privacy on that app is something that you wouldn’t want to see. So, Information Security Awareness or ISEA by MeitY has given eight tips that you can follow in order to keep your TikTok account safe.

You can simply navigate to the Settings section of the app inside your TikTok account and follow these tips to keep your account untouched.

-In the privacy and safety section you can toggle on the ‘Private Account’ option only if you don’t want it to be discovered by random users on the platform.

-Switch off the option to let anyone download your videos on to their own devices as the video can be used in any way.

-Limiting who can comment on your videos is also important as we see many becoming a part of cyber bullying every other day.

    — Information Security Awareness (ISEA) by MeitY (@InfoSecAwa) May 5, 2020

-In case you are allowing others or friends to comment, make sure you can filter them so no one can abuse or violate the TikTok guidelines.

-You can also limit the ‘Slitch or Duet’ permission of your video to friends only if in case you are concerned about privacy and your content being exposed to everyone on TikTok.

-Similar to limiting the comments on videos, one can also limit who can react to your videos on TikTok.

-ISEA also suggests that parents will have to take special interest in the apps that are popular with kids and are likely to expose their data to others.

-And lastly, in case the user is still being harassed on the TikTok app, he or she can simply visit the profile of the user and block him or her or report their account.

If you’re old enough to remember Vine, you’ve probably heard of its spiritual successor, TikTok. TikTok is a social media app that has gained popularity in recent years. TikTok users can film videos and overlay sound to achieve specific effects.

The social media aspect of TikTok includes the ability to comment on other users’ videos. As long as a user’s video has been made public, any TikTok user can post a comment on that video. But what if you want to delete a comment after you’ve made one? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Here’s how to delete a comment on TikTok.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

iPhone 11 (From $699.99 at Apple)

Samsung Galaxy S10 (From $859.99 at Walmart)

How to delete a comment on TikTok

Once a TikTok comment has been posted, you cannot edit it. However, deleting a comment is simple.

    1. Open the TikTok comment thread that includes the comment you wish to delete. Note that you can only delete comments you have made; you cannot delete other users’ comments.

    2. Tap and hold on the comment that you want to delete.

    3. Tap “Delete.”

Your comment should no longer be visible on the thread. You cannot retrieve a comment once it has been deleted, so if you simply made a typo and just want to edit your original comment, tap “Copy” before you tap “Delete.” Then, you can paste the text of the original comment into a new comment and edit the text before reposting.

TikTok is reportedly launching its own games

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

TikTok is venturing into video games, according to a new report.

According to a report earlier this week from Reuters, TikTok is apparently gearing up to enter a brand new scene: video games. The report claims that tests to allow users to play video games through the app on smartphones have been rolling on for a while in Vietnam.

Apparently, the Bytedance company is looking to roll out the feature on TikTok throughout Southeast Asia during the third quarter of this year, which places it at some point between July and September. There’s currently no word, from TikTok or the Reuters report, as to whether the company plans to roll out this feature for Western audiences at some point in the future.

Additionally, we don’t actually have any idea of how the testing phase in Vietnam has actually gone for TikTok. It could be that the feature hasn’t been received how Bytedance hoped it would, but given that the company allegedly plans to launch it in Southeast Asia later this year, we can take an educated guess that it succeeded enough to expand to other regions.

According to the report, TikTok plans to “primarily” draw on Bytedance’s games library for this new push. The Chinese company develops mobile games such as One Piece: The Voyage, and so it’s feasible that TikTok’s games push might be focused on mobile games.

Either way, it probably shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that TikTok is gearing up for a push into the games space. As GamesIndustry.biz reported back in November 2021, Bytedance actually made gaming one of its key pillars in a structural change, signalling a move into the space.

Can you trust every user you come across on TikTok? The answer to that may depend on how use the service, but the real question is — can you trust every user that sees your content? Not everyone on TikTok is someone you want viewing or interacting with your content, and there’s a way to prevent them from doing so.

Anyone can lurk on your public short-form video content without an account, and it’s easy to create an anonymous or false account to make derogatory and harassing comments. There’s also a real fear that stalkers can reach out to children pretending to be someone else. As a TikTok user or a parent of a child who uses TikTok, it’s important to be aware of these dangers.

Going private on TikTok is the best way to make sure you’re only sharing content with family and friends you know on the service. Plus, it’s the best thing to do if you’re not into the whole TikTok community but just want to use the app on Android or iOS to make cool videos for other social apps like Instagram or Snapchat. (Mimicking popular songs, dances, and TV show scenes are great for stories!)

In the Android or iPhone app, tap the profile icon in the bottom right. Next, tap the ellipsis (•••) icon in the top right, followed by “Privacy and Safety.” Here, you can enable “Private Account” so that only people you accept as friends can see your videos. However, if you already have followers, they won’t be erased, so make sure they’re all people you’re okay with having access to your videos.

Now, whenever you view your own content, you’ll see the private badge in the corner reminding you that your content is not public. If you want to beef up your privacy even more, you can also disable “Allow Others to Find Me,” which means you won’t show up as a suggestion to other users, which can happen when you have mutual friends or your phone number is attached to your account and another user has that info saved on their smartphone.

Once you start accepting friends on TikTok on a case-by-case basis, you can further refine how they interact with your account using the other options in the “Privacy and Safety” menu. You can also block individual users after the fact if they turn out to be someone that was masquerading as another user.

Using apps is never a one-way street. You, as a user, don’t have to be at mercy of an app and its shortcomings to dictate what you can and can’t do. Thankfully, most app developers let you contact them and explain the problems that you might be experiencing.

Being one of the fastest-growing social media apps, TikTok has had many growing pains to contend with and its users have complained of a few issues with the app before. But the available fixes for app problems don’t always work which is why you should take advantage of the open channel and contact them regarding the same.

Here’s how you can contact TikTok via email if you’re experiencing problems with its services.

    • When should you contact TikTok via email?
      • Reporting a problem with the app
      • Account management and login issues
      • For Business and Advertisements
    • TikTok support email address:
    • TikTok phone number:
    • Other ways and means to contact TikTok
      • From within the app
      • Official TikTok Social media profiles

When should you contact TikTok via email?

Many of us think contacting the team that brought us our favorite apps is the last resort that should only be considered when nothing else gives. But because TikTok lets you contact them without much fuss, you shouldn’t be apprehensive about letting them know when things go wrong with their app. It’s all for the greater good.

Reporting a problem with the app

This is by far the most common reason why users contact the TikTok team. There’s no such thing as a perfect app and most of them tend to struggle with bugs and unresponsive pages from time to time. So the onus is on the user to let the TikTok team know when things don’t work out as well as they should.

    Account management and login issues

If you’re experiencing problems with your TikTok account, or are not able to login to the app in the first place, contacting TikTok and letting them know of the problems that you’re facing might be the thing that solves the problem.

If, after trying out the available fixes, you find that the problems related to your account are not resolved, it is highly likely that the issue exists not on your end, but at TikTok’s end which is another reason to get in touch with them.

On the off chance that your account is deactivated because you didn’t follow TikTok’s community guidelines, you may have to explain yourself to them and give a plausible reason for your actions to get back your account.

    For Business and Advertisements

TikTok is the app of choice for influencers around the globe, allowing them to create short snippets of content in their fields and sending them out to millions of people. If you want to be an influencer and figure out how the system works in detail, the simplest route is to inquire about the business end of things by contacting TikTok via email.

If you’re already an influencer or a brand and want to start advertising on TikTok, there’s another good reason to get in touch with them, especially if you’re experiencing any issues pertaining to the same. You should also contact them if you have any issues pertaining to the same.

    TikTok support email address:

TikTok has dedicated emails for different purposes, be it a general query, complaint, or other issues as related before. Here are all the email ids that you should save today in case you need access to them while crafting your mail.

    • For General Feedback – [email protected]
    • For advertisement related queries – [email protected]
    • For advertisement complaints – [email protected]
    • For press inquiries – [email protected]

There are various location-dependent support TikTok email ids as well for those who want to contact them in their own regional language. Here they are:

    • Japan – [email protected]
    • Latin America – [email protected]
    • Korea – [email protected]
    • Southeast Asia – [email protected]

If you’re not sure whether the TikTok customer team supports your language or not, resort to plain English while contacting them.

    TikTok phone number:

You can’t contact TikTok via a phone number.

Other ways and means to contact TikTok

Of course, sending TikTok an email isn’t the only way to contact them. Here are a few other ways and means to get in touch with them.

    From within the app

Yes, you can contact TikTok and report a problem straight from the app itself. The option to do is available under the “Support” section (accessed via your profile>more options). You can either “Report a Problem” or go straight to the “Help Center”, both of which will get you talking directly to the TikTok support team.

    Official TikTok Social media profiles

As of yet, TikTok doesn’t have any phone numbers that you can just dial for help. However, as one would imagine, TikTok has official social media handles on different platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.

If you don’t want to send them an email, you can still visit TikTok’s Facebook profile and get the information you require from their page itself. Similarly, on Twitter, you can craft a tweet informing them briefly about your query and add “@tiktok_us” at the end of it.

This can publicize the issue that you’re facing and get you a quick response from the TikTok team. However, this is not always guaranteed to work, especially if yours is a query or issue that’s already been resolved before.

Whether you’re contacting TikTok because of an app issue or queries regarding the business end of things, crafting an email will most definitely get you the answers that you’re looking for. But it can be some time before you get a personalized response, so don’t hold your breath.

As it looks to evolve the use of its live-streaming option into eCommerce, as part of its broader monetization push, TikTok is adding a new control option for live broadcasters that will enable them to mute comments from individual viewers within streams for variable time periods.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

As you can see in this example, live-stream hosts will now have the option to mute specific viewers for a period of the broadcast – or the entire stream, if they so choose.

    As explained by TikTok:

Now, the host or their trusted helper can temporarily mute an unkind viewer for a few seconds or minutes, or for the duration of the LIVE. If an account is muted for any amount of time, that person’s entire comment history will also be removed. Hosts on LIVE can already turn off comments or limit potentially harmful comments using a keyword filter. We hope these new controls further empower hosts and audiences alike to have safe and entertaining livestreams. ”

The added capacity to remove all of the users’ previous comments is a big addition, which could help to manage live-stream interaction, and reduce unwelcome distractions flooding the comment stream.

Which has always been a problematic element. Twitter was forced to update its rules around live-stream interaction back in 2018, after various investigations showed that women and young people, in particular, tended to attract all manner of offensive remarks and comments during their broadcasts.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

And as noted, with TikTok exploring live-stream commerce, via various partnerships with big name brands, it needs to also provide a brand and consumer safe environment, in order to maximize appeal. With this in mind, having the capacity to quickly cut off inappropriate commentators, and negate their impact, could be a valuable addition.

TikTok also added a new live-stream moderators option back in July, to provide extra management options in this respect.

The announcement comes within a broader overview of TikTok’s latest Community Guidelines Enforcement report, which outlines all of the actions TikTok took due to platform rule violations between April and June this year.

TikTok notes that it removed more than 81 million videos in the period, equating to less than 1% of all videos uploaded on the platform – which would suggest that TikTok is now seeing more than 90 million videos uploaded to the platform every day. Which makes sense, given the app is now up to a billion users, but it does add some extra scope to the growth of the platform.

“Of those videos, we identified and removed 93.0% within 24 hours of being posted and 94.1% before a user reported them. 87.5% of removed content had zero views, which is an improvement since our last report (81.8%). ”

TikTok also notes that its new alerts which prompt users to reconsider potentially offensive comments , which it added back in March, are also having an impact.

“The effect of these prompts has already been felt, with nearly 4 in 10 people choosing to withdraw and edit their comment. Though not everyone chooses to change their comments, we’re encouraged by the impact of features like this and we continue to develop and try new interventions to prevent potential abuse. ”

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

Twitter and Instagram have also implemented similar prompts, which, based on this data, could go some way in reducing angst in replies.

User safety is a major focus for TikTok, with the app’s appeal to younger audiences also, potentially, facilitating unwanted exposure and connection, if left unchecked. The platform has come under scrutiny in several regions in the past for its failure to protect young users from harm, and with concerns around its previous moderation processes, defined by Chinese regulations, TikTok knows that it’s under heavy scrutiny on this front, and that it needs to work hard to maintain trust.

Which is why measures like this are important, while they’ll also, ultimately, help the app maximize advertiser interest by providing a safer, more welcoming environment.

    May. 11 2021, Published 7:25 p.m. ET

Popular video-sharing app TikTok has taken off in the last year. While it was originally thought of as an app for young users, its user base has grown to include creators of all ages internationally.

But the app has faced some hardships. Former President Donald Trump considered banning the app in 2020 (before the app banned him), and many users have filed complaints about the creator fund.

Others have found their accounts wrongfully banned. Here’s how to get your TikTok account unbanned.

Why was my TikTok account banned?

A TikTok account is typically only banned after there have been multiple reports made against the account and TikTok finds the content in violation of the community guidelines. Typically, this happens when another user reports your content.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

Your videos or account can be reported for a variety of violations, including harassment, bullying, misleading information, illegal activities, fraud, hate speech, animal cruelty, graphic content, minor safety, intellectual property infringement, NSFW content, or for depicting otherwise dangerous acts.

Once another user reports your video or account for this content, it’s usually put under review by TikTok, though the company does not always find the content in violation.

If a specific video seems to be the problem, TikTok is likely to take it down before banning your account. If multiple videos on your page are reported, additional action may be taken.

If your video was removed and you feel it was not in violation of TikTok’s guidelines, you can appeal the app’s decision. To do this, tap on the notification that your video was removed and submit an appeal, or submit an appeal by clicking on the video.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

Unfortunately, many users have said that if a video was wrongly removed, the strike against their account remains intact. Try to adhere to the community guidelines as strictly as you can to avoid multiple strikes against your account, which would result in you being banned.

Here’s how to unban your account on TikTok.

If your account receives too many strikes against it, TikTok can choose to either ban your account or temporarily ban you from posting. If you are banned from posting, you can still navigate the app, comment, like, and share other videos, though you cannot post new content until the temporary ban is lifted.

After multiple violations, your account can be banned permanently. If this happens, you will receive a banner notification when logging into the app.

If you feel this ban was a mistake and wish to dispute it, you can do so by submitting an appeal. Tap on the notification you received about your account and click “Appeal.” Follow the instructions to file the appeal and wait to see if your account is reinstated.

Unfortunately, if TikTok does not approve your appeal, there is little you can do to reinstate your account, as account bans are typically permanent. The best avenue from here would be to email TikTok support for further assistance.

The dislike button could soon make its arrival on TikTok. More specifically, it would be present in the comments, in order to affirm disagreement with the remarks that can be found under a video. On the other hand, no counter is to be expected, and no one can know who dislikes what. It is above all a question of reporting spam and abusive language to help moderate them more quickly.

The dislike button poses a thorny problem for social networks. On the one hand, it allows you to give your opinion in the same way as the more traditional like, in addition to warning other users of the potential poor quality of the content of the person concerned. On the other, it can be the source of harassment campaigns and harmful to the mental health of content creators. These are the reasons why YouTube decided to remove it from its platform last November.

Not content with usually drawing inspiration from its spiritual big brother, TikTok has decided this time to go in the opposite direction. Indeed, in a recent blog post, the social network announced that a handful of users can already downvote comments. However, this dislike button is nothing like what we already know. First, it is, as stated, only present in the comments section. It is therefore impossible to use it directly on the video.

TikTok is testing a dislike button in comments to help with moderation

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

Secondly, no counters will appear on the screen of the users, whether it is the author of the video or those who view it. Only those who have disliked a comment will be aware of its action. In other words, this button will only serve as a report for the moderation teams. The more dislikes a comment receives, the more likely it will be deleted. However, TikTok clarifies that it will not replace the traditional method of reporting.

“This community feedback will add to the set of factors we already use to ensure that the comments section is always relevant and a place for authentic engagement,” explains the Chinese social network. A new method that adds to the efforts already made by the platform to make its comments space healthier. The feature is under testing around the world.

To make it easier for our community to find and use the built-in safety tools we offer; we’re experimenting with reminders that will guide creators to our comment filtering and bulk block and delete options. The reminders will appear to creators whose videos appear to be receiving a high proportion of negative comments. We will continue to remove comments that violate our Community Guidelines, and creators can continue to report comments or accounts individually or in bulk for us to review.

TikTok is a global platform that users share their creativity. It has 689 million users around the world, and millions of new content are posted every day. Especially, this kind of huge platform should be in contact with their users every time. It is because if issues that users face cannot be solved in a short period of time, customer satisfaction and interest in the platform may decrease. There are two ways of communicating with the support team of TikTok: You can go to the help center or contact TikTok.

    TikTok Help Center

TikTok help center includes issues that users encounter. Once a user creates a post that explains the problem, the support team gives an answer in a short period of time. It is also beneficial for other users because there can be different people who encounter the same problems. Therefore, they do not have to try to reach the support team again. They can solve their problem from there. If the suggestions are not helpful, you can create a new post on the TikTok help center to report your difficulty.

19 Apr How To Calculate TikTok Engagement Rate [UPDATED 2020]

    What Is TikTok

TikTok is one of the latest social video apps with the highest traction ever – beating Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat – that allows users to share short videos.

TikTok is an app that features stickers, filters, and augmented reality (AR) to create engaging and catchy videos to share with friends and millions of other users. TikTok is famous for its virality and amazing metrics that a video can generate.

If you are interested in getting started with TikTok, you can contact our TikTok Influencer Marketing Agency.

    What Is The Engagement Rate

Engagement Rate is a number expressed as a percentage that shows how much engagement a content received. It is usually calculated as the sum of likes, comments (and any other social activity such as shares) and divided by the number of followers. For TikTok, you have to divide by views instead of followers.

The higher is the Engagement Rate, the better is the engagement generated by a certain influencer on specific content. It is a crucial number to look at when selecting an influencer on TikTok.

How To Calculate TikTok Engagement Rate

The formula is pretty easy and it can be written as the following:

[(Number of likes + number of comments + number of shares) / number of views] X 100

    An example would be:

    [(5,159 + 30 + 250) / 246,500] X 100 = 2.20% for a specific content (see below)

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

And in case you want to calculate TikTok Engagement Rate for an entire profile you can take the overall hearts and comments of the last 20 content uploaded and divide them by the number of combined views and multiply by 100.

    TikTok Average Engagement Rate

We analyzed 10,000 TikTok accounts and calculated the average engagement rate for different followers’ ranges. The average engagement rate for these TikTok accounts was calculated in this way: (likes + comments + shares) / views for last 10 videos.

    FOLLOWERS RANGE AVERAGE ENGAGEMENT RATE
    100k-500k 17.93%
    500k-1M 22.79%
    1M-5M 20.57%
    5M-10M 21.97%
    10M+ 21.72%

Share All sharing options for: TikTok considers monetization and creator retention in judging recommendation algorithm

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge

TikTok’s much-vaunted video algorithm is designed around two things: getting users to stick around and getting users to come back. That’s according to a report in The New York Times, which reviewed a leaked copy of an internal TikTok document summarizing how the system works. The report offers a rare look into one of the most discussed algorithms in tech right now, and it reveals some considerations — like retaining creators and ensuring they make money — that may not be obvious choices when building a video feed meant to keep viewers tuned in.

To keep users watching and coming back, TikTok considers four main objectives, according to the Times: user value, long-term user value, creator value, and platform value. One way that plays out is the algorithm prioritizing a diversity of content rather than overwhelming users with one single topic they might love.

“If a user likes a certain kind of video, but the app continues to push the same kind to him, he would quickly get bored and close the app,” the document reads, according to the Times. To avoid that, the app might show a “forced recommendation” to present something new.

The document presents what is supposed to be a simplified version of TikTok’s formula for what people like and what it should play. It roughly breaks down to a combination of likes, comments, watch time on a video, and whether a video was played, according to the report. There are some variables in the equation that aren’t spelled out, but my read on it is that TikTok likely weights different interactions so that some are valued more than others.

TikTok also puts a real focus on creators when judging the value of its For You feed, according to a flow chart from the document that was recreated by the Times. It shows TikTok considering “creation quality,” which is judged by publish rate, creator retention, and creator monetization. There isn’t further detail on how TikTok judges creator retention and monetization, but it would appear to indicate that whether creators are successful is a real consideration when determining the “quality of videos” in the For You feed. That said, whether creators make money isn’t an input to the algorithm, TikTok spokesperson Jamie Favazza tells The Verge. Instead, it’s an outcome of TikTok’s optimization for user satisfaction.

For its part, TikTok has not been entirely opaque about all of this in the past. In blog posts, the company has detailed the basics of how its feed works — comments and what accounts you follow can impact recommendations — and it gave The Verge a look inside its “Transparency and Accountability Center” last year, which spoke to the company’s concerns about issues like filter bubbles.

Today’s report shouldn’t dispel concerns about filter bubbles or the app driving users toward problematic content. In fact, the Times says the document was leaked by a TikTok employee who was concerned about the app leading to self-harm. In the past, reporters have spotted the app presenting user-generated content promoting eating disorders and discussing or showing self-harm. Because the app is so finely tuned at keeping users tuned in with content similar to videos they’ve already watched, it’s easy to see how quickly the network could become problematic if not properly moderated.

Favazza says TikTok considers “a range of engagement signals” when determining what to show people. “We continue to invest in new ways to customize content preferences, automatically skip videos that aren’t relevant or age-appropriate, and remove violations of our Community Guidelines,” she said.

Mostly, though, the leak provides a fascinating insight into one of the most-discussed black boxes on the internet — how TikTok decides what to show you video after video. The details presented here, like the recommendation formula, are “highly simplified,” the document says. But it indicates that the complicated ways major social platforms craft their algorithms could be broken down into clear objectives and shared with the public to provide at least some sense of why we’re seeing whatever it is we see.

How TikTok Is Increasing Cyberbullying Amongst Teens?

When it comes to social media, teens aren’t really flocking to Facebook and Twitter anymore, or even Snapchat. There’s a new kid in town and its name is TikTok. TikTok is a platform that allows users to create short videos incorporating music, and it’s become wildly popular in just a matter of months.

TikTok might be making older generations shake their heads and say “kids these days,” but it’s important for parents and educators to understand the impact that social media platforms are having on kids’ lives. Cyberbullying is a real problem, and TikTok may be adding to the problem. Here’s what we all need to know about what’s going on within the TikTok platform.

    Is TikTok Rewarding Teenage Hazing?

There are a lot of funny, silly, and even heartwarming videos on TikTok. But there’s a darker side, too. Videos that are shared on the platform can quickly go viral, and what might be a “funny” video might actually be humiliation and hazing.

Defined as any action or situation that deliberately causes harm or humiliation, Hazing most often occurs within organized groups of young people as an initiation ritual. Hazing has been a problem on college campuses in the United States for over 150 years, and it continues to put students at risk.

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

Today, humiliation from hazing can be even more severe and lasting due to platforms like TikTok. Students can film a hazing incident and share it with the world, causing lasting harm and a digital record that’s almost impossible to erase. Additionally, “going viral” with a hazing video could even reward the instigators since the videos get so much attention.

How Big of an Issue is TikTok Bullying?

Some people might argue that incidents of bullying and hazing on TikTok are isolated and that the problem isn’t widespread. Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be the case. So why is TikTok a hotspot for bullies?

Experts think that it has something to do with a combination of the platform’s popularity and the anonymity that users enjoy. People aren’t directly connected, so they don’t feel that they’re held accountable for their behavior.

While there are privacy settings that teens and parents can use to prevent bullying (allowing only people they know contact them), they’re not always used and might not be totally effective. Cyberbullying is very common among teens who know each other.

TikTok Has Even Addressed This Issue

Because cyberbullying has become a problem on the platform, TikTok has even stepped in to address the issue. They now include a bullying resource page in their Safety Center, explaining the app settings that help protect users.

In addition to offering different privacy settings, TikTok allows users to delete comments on their videos and block users who bully them. It’s important for parents and teens to understand these options and to use them in order to prevent harassment and cyberbullying. Teens need the knowledge, tools, and empowerment to protect themselves!

How to Report TikTok Hazing, Sexual Violence & Cyberbullying

TikTok encourages users to report harassment and other inappropriate behavior so that it can be investigated and dealt with. If you or your child has been harassed on TikTok, it’s important to speak up.

Parents need to be involved in their children’s online activity. Many kids don’t feel comfortable speaking up against bullies. This is also common for victims of sexual assault.

On TikTok, at least, you can report abusive users on behalf of someone else. While it’s better to empower youth to acknowledge and recognize harassment, the number one priority should be keeping kids safe. We should always be looking out for others and be prepared to step in if needed.

How to Help Prevent Cyberbullying On TikTok (Hint: Don’t Give it Any Attention)

Obviously, prevention is better than dealing with the harmful effects of cyberbullying. It’s crucially important to discuss the issue with your teen before it becomes a problem.

Simply talking to your teen about what is and isn’t harassment won’t prevent all bullying. But it should help to teach them about what behavior is unacceptable and how to report a bully if they do ever experience cyberbullying.

In addition to discussing privacy settings, reporting, and what constitutes inappropriate behavior, remember to tell your teen not to engage. Bullies want that attention, and engaging with harassment usually leads to worse trouble.

Let your child know you’re there for them if they ever need help. Cyberbullying on TikTok should be taken seriously!

Getting your account verified on TikTok in 2021, just like with any other social media platform, can be a great boost for your brand. It lends you legitimacy, authenticity, and street cred — showing your followers, or potential followers, that you’re the real deal.

However, it’s not easy to get the coveted blue tick checkmark — especially on TikTok. Verification is supposed to be for public figures, celebrities, brands, and publishers, but what exactly makes a public figure or a brand that’s “legit” enough?

Well, TikTok’s Creator Launch Team has strict criteria and guidelines for granting verification. The main idea of verification is to protect popular creators who might be impersonated, copied, or bullied. They also want to attract celebrities, politicians, musicians, and other very popular figures to use their platform.

So if you want to get verified, you’ll need to meet those criteria.

Can you request verification on TikTok?

On most platforms, like Instagram and Twitter, you can apply to be considered for verification and getting the TikTok blue tick. That’s not true with TikTok. The TikTok team seeks accounts that may require verification and grants it on their initiative.

    Can you buy TikTok verification?

NO. Beware of scams! You cannot buy verification on TikTok.

Verification will be granted for free to users who have been selected by the TikTok team. There are many scammers out claiming to be able to hook you up for a few hundred or a few thousand dollars. Don’t fall for it! It’s not legal or legitimate, and if they run off with your money, there’s nothing you can do about it. The only way to get verified is to meet the criteria and get selected by the TikTok team.

So what are the criteria for TikTok verification to get the coveted blue tick in 2021?

According to TikTok expert Rachel Pederson, who is connected with the Creator Launch Team on TikTok, these are the criteria they look at when considering an account for verification:

    • Consistent daily follower growth: Accounts that are consistently gaining around 500–2,000 followers per day
    • Growing watch time: Accounts that are getting more and more views and watch time
    • Media coverage: Accounts of users who are featured in prominent and respected media platforms, such as newspapers, TV shows, and magazines
    • Consistently viral content: Accounts that are putting out content that consistently goes viral
    • Account verification on other social media platforms: Accounts of users who are already verified on Facebook, Instagram, and/or Twitter

If you are already a celebrity or media figure, these issues aren’t a problem. However, as a small business owner still trying to get the word out about your brand, it could be extremely challenging to meet these criteria.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try!

Some ways to increase your chances of getting verified on TikTok:

    Consistently produce fantastic content

You may not have control over whether your videos go viral, but you certainly can work toward making them viral-worthy. Make sure you’re putting out great content on a regular basis.

A few ways you can take your videos up a level:

    • Use high-quality gear
    • Incorporate popular music
    • Pay attention to the details: do you have a good background? How’s your lighting?
    • Use tools such as the Boosted app to make your videos look cool and professional

Engage and collaborate with other users

If you want to gain more followers and get that TikTok blue tick, following liberally and engaging with other users is the way to go. Your audience can grow exponentially once you’ve reached enough people with your great content.

Try to get noticed by the media

Make sure your brand is doing some extraordinary, noteworthy things that will gain enough attention to get media coverage. If you have some connections in the media, it can’t hurt to leverage those, either. Consider taking part in public projects or events that will help get you noticed.

Get your account verified on other platforms

Apply for verification on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and make sure these accounts are connected to your TikTok account. For more information on requesting verification on Instagram, see our post How to Get Verified on Instagram: A Step by Step Guide.

    Don’t overfocus on verification

Ultimately, getting verified and getting the TikTok blue tick on TikTok isn’t something you can have much control over. So there’s not much point in getting hung up on the blue tick. You don’t need verification to grow your brand or become a popular and respected presence on TikTok.

Just focus on growing your presence, making new connections, having fun, and producing excellent content. If you happen to get verified in the process — awesome. If not, just carry on!

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

Open up short-form video app TikTok and you’re met with a stream of popular videos, tailored to your own interests. But when your friend launches TikTok on their own phone, they’ll see something different. TikTok calls this main stream of content the “For You” feed because of how it’s personalized to the individual user. But how the recommendation system worked behind the scenes was something of an unknown — until now. Today, the company detailed the factors that contribute to the For You feed, as well as how they’re weighted for each individual user.

It also explains what it’s doing to ensure the system isn’t creating filter bubbles — that is, a feed where you’re presented with a homogeneous stream of videos.

Like many recommendation systems, TikTok’s For You feed is powered by user input.

In its case, the app takes into account the videos you like or share, the accounts you follow, the comments you post and the content you create to help determine your interests. In addition, the recommendation system will factor in video information like the captions, sounds and hashtags associated with the content you like.

To a lesser extent, it will also use your device and account settings information like your language preference, country setting and device type. But TikTok says these factors receive lower weight in the recommendation system compared with others, because they’re more focused on making sure the system is optimized for performance.

Other signals contribute to TikTok’s understanding of what a user likes, as well. For example, if a user watches a longer video from beginning to end, it’s considered a strong indicator of interest. This would be given a greater weight than a weaker signal, like if the viewer and poster were from the same country.

TikTok also confirms that a video is likely to receive more views if it’s posted by an account that has more followers, simply because that account has a larger base of viewers. But it adds that neither the follower count nor whether or not the account has had high-performing videos in the past are considered direct factors in its recommendation system.

That seems to indicate that TikTok’s top users with massive reach — accounts like charli d’amelio, addison rae, Zach King, Loren Gray, Riyaz, Spencer X, BabyAriel and others — aren’t guaranteed to hit the For You page of every user, even if that user follows them.

As you continue to use TikTok, the system takes into account your changing tastes and interests, even noting when you decide to follow new accounts or explore hashtags, sounds, effects and trending topics on its Discover tab. All these will tailor your TikTok experience further.

Users can also signal to TikTok their more explicit likes and dislikes with a long press, where they can either add a video to their favorites or mark it “Not interested.”

Of course, like any app powered by user input and signals, TikTok has to find a way to get over the cold start problem. Upon the app’s first launch, it doesn’t know what sort of content an individual likes. To address this, it asks new users to select categories of interest — like pets or travel — to help tailor the initial recommendations. If users don’t opt to select categories, TikTok shows a general feed of popular videos until it has more input. Once it gains its first set of likes, comments and replays, TikTok will begin to initiate an early round of recommendations.

TikTok says it also understands that catering too much to someone’s personal taste can lead to the development of a limited experience, known as a “filter bubble.” That can lead to an “increasingly homogeneous stream of videos,” it says, and is a concern it takes seriously.

A couple of years ago, a VICE report indicated that TikTok had not yet overcome this challenge. A reporter trained TikTok to show white supremacist content by following a certain set of creators, by searching up related hashtags and by liking only videos that matched this “interest.” TikTok’s failure was more than just one of moderation — it was also an indication that a dedicated user could craft a version of the app filled with hateful content, if that was their goal.

Today, TikTok says it’s working on ways to keep a user’s For You page diverse and fresh. That means removing repetitive content, duplicated content, content you’ve seen before and spam. But it also means making sure you don’t see two videos in a row by the same creator or with the same sound. For safety reasons, the app also won’t recommend videos that some may find shocking — like a medical procedure or the consumption of regulated goods (even if legal).

In addition, TikTok will add videos to your For You feed at times that don’t appear to be relevant to your expressed interests or have amassed a huge number of likes. This is part of its attempts to add diversity — by giving users a chance to stumble across new content categories and new creators, and to allow them to “experience new perspectives and ideas,” the company says.

This is a problem that Facebook, Instagram and YouTube haven’t well addressed. Their algorithms often keep you in your own echo chamber, highlighting more of the same sort of content you’ve previously liked, or even pushing you to more extremist viewpoints over time.

TikTok says it knows this is a downside to personalization.

“By offering different videos from time to time, the system is also able to get a better sense of what’s popular among a wider range of audiences to help provide other TikTok users a great experience, too,” the company says in a blog post. “Our goal is to find balance between suggesting content that’s relevant to you while also helping you find content and creators that encourage you to explore experiences you might not otherwise see.”

How to report videos accounts and comments on tiktok

TikTok is testing a dislike button for comments, intended to let users flag inappropriate content and help make the community a bit nicer than it might otherwise be.

Announced in a blog post on Wednesday, TikTok’s new dislike button appears as a thumbs down icon to the right of the heart icon that is already available next to comments. The dislike feature isn’t currently available to all users though, so don’t be surprised if you don’t have it yet. TikTok plans to roll it out globally over the next few months.

“We’ve started testing a way to let individuals identify comments they believe to be irrelevant or inappropriate,” TikTok wrote. “This community feedback will add to the range of factors we already use to help keep the comment section consistently relevant and a place for genuine engagement.”

Users can already indicate their disdain for a TikTok by long-pressing it and choosing “not interested” from the popup menu. TikTok also allows users to report comments by long-pressing on them and selecting “Report.”

However, this new dislike feature is the first time users will be able to leave negative feedback for comments that may not reach the level of reportable offences, but still aren’t exactly helpful or appreciated.

Unlike YouTube dislikes of old, the number of dislikes a comment receives will be hidden. Only the person who doled out the thumbs down will be able to see it, a measure TikTok states is designed to “avoid creating ill-feeling between community members or demoralize creators.”

Mashable has reached out to TikTok to inquire where this new feature is currently being tested.

This cooperation started with the joint Stop the Spread campaign in May-June 2020, which encouraged the use of trusted sources such as WHO and national health authorities for accurate COVID-19 information.
