How to sort your facebook feed by most recent

Whenever Facebook updates its interface, familiar features can be hard to find. While the ability to sort your Facebook feed by most recent is still available, it has moved to a slightly different location.

Sort Feed by Most Recent in Facebook’s New Design

If you haven’t already enabled the new Facebook Desktop interface, most should have the option to upgrade and switch over right now. This new design will probably replace the current Facebook interface in the future. But for now, most accounts are able to change back and forth between the two interfaces at any time.

To sort your Facebook feed by most recent, start by going to Facebook’s website in any desktop browser and log in to your account. Once you’ve enabled the new Facebook interface, click on “See More” in the left sidebar. In this sidebar, you can access a wide range of additional content, including the new Facebook Gaming streaming service.

Scroll down this expanded list to find the “Most Recent” button. Click it and Facebook will refresh the page.

All of your feed’s posts in the center of your main page will now be sorted by date, with the most recent posts at the top. This will not be a permanent change, unfortunately, as the social network will occasionally revert back to an algorithmic view. You’ll have to follow these instructions any time you want to sort your Facebook this way.

Sort Feed by Most Recent in Facebook’s Old Design

If you’re using Facebook’s older interface, you can still sort your Facebook feed by most recent. Click the three horizontal dots next to “News Feed” in the left sidebar and then select the “Most Recent” option.

As with the new design, you’ll need to enable this setting every time you close or refresh your feed.

Given that this entire interface is brand new for millions of Facebook users, there may be some changes in the future as feedback starts to roll in. Whether or not that has an impact or changes how the Facebook Feed is sorted remains to be seen.

By default, Facebook doesn’t show you everything. Instead, it decides what it thinks you want to see based on the things you like, comment on, and what kind of media Facebook wants to promote. If you’d rather see everything, in chronological order, the way Facebook used to be, here’s how to do that.

On the Facebook Website

Open Facebook in your browser and click the three little dots next to where it says News Feed.

The one downside is that you will need to do this every time you log into Facebook. To get around it, bookmark the URL https://www.facebook.com/?sk=h_chr in your bookmarks bar. The bit at the end tells Facebook to redirect to the Most Recent feed, so this will take you right there.

On the Facebook Mobile App

If you’re trying to view your Facebook feed on the iPhone or Android app, you can do that too. Open the Facebook app and head to the Menu pane.

How to sort your facebook feed by most recent

– See your friends' most recent posts first!

(Pocket-lint) – Facebook is introducing a Feed Filter Bar feature that will give you more precise control over your news feed. It basically lets you see posts chronologically – or by most recent, in the order they were posted – by simply toggling away from its usual algorithmic feed.

Technically, the company has offered users the option to sort feeds by “most recent”, but it buried it in a settings menu. Facebook also launched a Favourites feature last October that allows users to select up to 30 friends and pages so that Facebook will display posts from them in a separate feed. Now, Favorites and Recents are front and centre – at the top of the news feed in separate tabs.

How Facebook’s Feed Filter Bar works

By default, Facebook’s news feed uses a process called ranking to show you posts that the social network believes are relevant to you. But Facebook is now rolling out what it calls the Feed Filter Bar. It lets you easily toggle between three different news feed options:

  • Home (or Top Stories): Facebook’s algorithmically tuned news feed, where it decides which popular posts to show you first.
  • Favourites: A news feed that shows posts from your “favourite” 30 friends and pages. (Go here to learn how to manage favorites.)
  • Recents: A chronological news feed displaying recent posts shared by your friends and pages, in the order they were posted.

The idea is, with the Feed Filter Bar, you will be able to better explore the content being shared with you by all your friends and pages. For example, to only see recent posts, you can sort your news feed to see your Recent feed. This means that you will see recent posts from the people and pages you follow, but you’ll see their newest posts first. Alternatively, you can see posts from your favourite friends.

Note: Facebook said you can update Favourites at any time. (From the down-facing arrow, go to Settings and Privacy > News Feed Preferences > Manage Favorites. Then, to select a Favourite, click the star icon next to a friend or page.)

When will the Feed Filter Bar roll out?

This Feed Filter Bar launched globally on 31 March 2021 for Facebook’s Android app and will come to the iOS app “in the coming weeks”.

It’s unclear if it will be available on the web version of Facebook.

Did the Feed Filter Bar disappear for you?

The Feed Filter Bar will appear for all Facebook users when it rolls out, but if you don’t access it over a seven-day period (by toggling between either the Favourites or Recent tab), it may disappear from your view. To find it, again just swipe up in the news feed and then it’ll reappear.

In a bid to stay relevant and up to date with the latest trends, Facebook has introduced a number of features like Rooms, Reactions, etc. Now, however, Facebook is in for a whole makeover. The new Facebook layout has already started rolling out to users and is soon going to be the official layout. However, this new layout has not been well received since a lot of the old features that were used quite often have been tucked away. In this article, we will cover how you can organize your Facebook News Feed to display the most recent posts.

  • What is the Facebook News Feed?
  • How To Get ‘Most Recent’ Posts On The New Facebook Newsfeed
    • On PC (Web)
    • On iPhone and Android

What is the Facebook News Feed?

The News Feed is the FYP (For You Page) of Facebook. It displays content from your friends, pages you follow, users you are subscribed to, and basically everything that you choose to view. The News Feed has seen some changes over the years, but none as drastic as the new Facebook layout.

Facebook’s News Feed is constantly being updated as users post newer content. That is why it is important to have an option to keep the most recent content at the top. The News Feed gives you options to block posts, report content, and even follow new groups all in one place.

How To Get ‘Most Recent’ Posts On The New Facebook Newsfeed

While on the old Facebook layout, the option to sort your Feed by ‘Most recent’ was right beside the News Feed, the new layout has changed this position. While it is still easy to find, users do not know where exactly to look!

    On PC (Web)

To sort your News Feed on the Facebook website, visit the website in a web browser and sign in with your credentials. You will be greeted by the News Feed page. In the left panel, click ‘See more’.

How to sort your facebook feed by most recent

Now scroll down and click ‘Most recent’.

How to sort your facebook feed by most recent

The Facebook News Feed will refresh and now show you the most recently posted content at the top.

    On iPhone and Android

You can also sort your News Feed on the Facebook mobile app. To do so, launch the Facebook app on your device. Now tap the hamburger menu in the top right corner.

How to sort your facebook feed by most recent

Scroll down and select ‘Most Recent’. This will refresh your News Feed and show you the most recently posted content at the top of your Feed.

How to sort your facebook feed by most recent

Can you make ‘Most Recent’ the default for your News Feed?

When you load Facebook, whether it is on the mobile app or a web browser, the new layout forces the News Feed to populate by ‘Top Stories’. This is content that Facebook believes will entertain you. It is a mixture of high interaction posts sorted by topics that you follow.

When you use the above method to switch the way your Feed populates, it refreshes your Feed to show you the most recently posted content by people and pages that you follow. However, this does not last. While there is no official word on this, it seems the app will go back to the default ‘Top Stories’ setting within 24 hours. So there is currently no way to make ‘Most Recent’ your default setting for your Facebook News Feed.

We hope this article helped. What do you think of the new Facebook News Feed layout? Let us know in the comments below.

Don’t know about smart phone facebook app, but on my pc the only way I could get the “most recent” button to appear was to add some “favorites” by checking some friends as favorites. Then i got out of facebook and back in. Only then did most recent appear. I could toggle between most recent and the facebook algorithm selection in the news feed by clicking the HOME button, although now when I toggle to show the “top posts” only 3 or 4 posts show up. Also I noticed the “most recent” button occasionally would not appear until I again hit the HOME button. So apparently you have to have some favorites selected to activate the “most recent” button, and even then you may have to toggle the HOME button to get it to show up. Totally goofy. it took me hours to figure this out. The official Facebook “how to” page does not discuss this at all. It simply says scroll down on the left hand options and then More, and the “most recent” button will appear there–but it doesn’t. Hopefully facebook will remember what I’ve done and not require me to add or delete favorites to keep the “most recent” button working!

Change Facebook News Feed to Most Recent instead of Top Stories.

Most social networks including Facebook tend to show Top Stories by default instead of Most Recent stuff. Moreover, there isn’t a way to always see the most recent posts on Facebook since the News Feed eventually returns to its default setting. This can be pretty annoying if you prefer to see the latest updates rather than a most popular post made several hours ago.

Though one can always sort Facebook by most recent, doing so is now a little cumbersome. That’s because the Feed Filter Bar (introduced a few months back) to easily switch between Home, Favorites, and Recent has been silently pulled off from the Home tab. This new menu used to appear at the top of News Feed but not anymore. Hence, a lot of Facebook users are asking to bring back the Most Recent button.

Can I get Facebook News Feed in chronological order?

Thankfully, it is still possible to view your Facebook posts in chronological order. It’s just that the company has moved this certain functionality deep down in the Facebook app. Apparently, Facebook wants its users to see algorithmically-ranked stuff first on their News Feed instead of the newest posts, sorted chronologically.

Now let’s see how to switch to Most Recent so that you see posts from friends, groups, and Pages in the order they were posted.

How to sort Facebook posts by Most Recent (2021)

Facebook has now rolled out its site-wide redesign to everyone, meaning we can all now enjoy its spiffy dark mode. The new design is very clean and aesthetically pleasing — it actually makes Facebook fun to look at again.

But there is one change that might leave you confused. In the previous design, the ability to sort the News Feed by Top or Most Recent was done from a dropdown menu on the left-hand menu. Now, the News Feed is accessible via icons on the top of the screen. There’s no option to switch from the Home button, which is how you access the News Feed on the new design.

So where do you find the Most Recent option?

Strangely, it’s still in the left-hand side menu. Facebook‘s moved it to a separate tab and buried it far down the list. Here’s what it looks like:

How to sort your facebook feed by most recent

I have no idea who thought this made sense, especially since the News Feed tab is now on a completely different part of the screen. But, regardless, that’s how you access the Most Recent news in the new Facebook design. Good luck!

Facebook has never failed its mission to constantly redefine the meaning of a social media platform. Its newly-designed dark mode interface makes us want to use the platform more often with its attractively aesthetic look. However, that’s not it. You might not have noticed that the new design will let you arrange your feeds chronologically with the so-called ‘Most Recent’ option.

On the previous timeline, you are allowed to sort your Facebook feeds from the most recent to your preferred ones. You can do this by going to the dropdown on the left part of the menu. Now, the updated version will allow your access to the icons on your News Feed on the top of your device screen.

This means that you don’t have to go to the Home menu to access your preferred News Feed design. The main advantage of this feature is that you will get a curated version of all your Facebook feeds in strictly chronological order.

Facebook developers have placed the “Most Recent” option on a separate window as the design is on its testing stage. This may not have been officially announced by Facebook so it can be considered a little hack for all the clever users.

The usual setup of Facebook before doing any adjustments is the “Top Stories” appear by default. But by clicking on the “Most Recent” option on the left sidebar of the new Facebook design, it will now show the latest posts from family, friends, and pages.

The revamped user interface should be available for all users in the second half of 2020, according to some reports. Confirmed or not, this will be a great help for all who use the platform for online selling, promotion, and advertisements.

With Facebook’s redesigned platform, the process should be done through a desktop browser for its first implementation.

If you are the lucky Facebook user, you will see the “Switch to New Facebook” notification once you log back in. Select this option and click the drop-down menu located on the upper right corner of the user interface. It is said that once you have switched to this new user interface, you will no longer be allowed to switch back to its old version before the new design will be officially launched.

Here’s how to see recent posts instead of what the algorithm gives you.

Oh, Facebook. Why are you so irresistible, yet so irritating at the same time? The social media platform is amazing for staying in touch with family and friends. However, the developers like to throw us curve balls from time to time that make using the app or desktop site a pain in the neck. New avatars pop up that we can’t get rid of easily. Posts pushing false information show up in our timelines.

Many of us just want to get our Facebook timelines to show our posts in chronological order. It would seem like the most logical way to follow what’s happening in real time, but Facebook developers have other ideas.

How to sort your facebook feed by most recent

Facebook’s default timeline display is based on the company’s algorithm that shows users what it believes is relevant and important. Even back in 2015, Facebook representatives explained the reasons behind not using chronological order on its timeline.

“In general, chronological, I think, helps people who are worried about missing things or seeing more recent things, but if everyone was on chronological all the time, people would miss a lot more important content,” Adam Mosseri told Time when he was working for Facebook as its News Feed Product management director. (He’s now the head of Instagram.) “Our whole mission is to show people content that we think that they find meaningful. Recency is one important input into what people find meaningful, but we have found over and over again that it’s not the only one.”

But what about those of us who are tired of messing with our timeline to get posts in chronological order? There is a solution! Facebook hasn’t made it easy (or permanent), but there is a way.

How to Make Your Facebook Timeline Chronological on Your Phone

First, here’s the trick for getting a chronological feed on Facebook’s mobile app.

When you open the Facebook app on your smartphone, you should see a top menu on your news feed with Home, Favorites and Recent. If you don’t see this Feed Filter Bar, simply scroll up on your news feed to find it.

How to sort your facebook feed by most recent

Select Recent. That should switch your Facebook feed to listing posts in chronological order.

However, this setting cannot be saved. When you close Facebook on your smartphone, it will default back to its usual algorithm.

An alternate method is to go into your profile settings and enter the Recent & Favorites menu.

How to sort your facebook feed by most recent

Select Recent as your Facebook feed view. Like the other method, this is also not a permanent setting. You will need to repeat the steps if you close down the app.

How to Set Facebook to Chronological Order on Your Desktop

On your desktop, you’re just a few clicks away from setting your feed chronologically.

Open Facebook on your desktop, then click the Home icon at the top.

In the menu on the left, click “See More,” then scroll (for a while) down and click “Most Recent.”

How to sort your facebook feed by most recent

Like the mobile app trick, this isn’t a permanent fix. If you close your browser tab, Facebook will return you to the popular posts it thinks you should see the next time you open it. But once you get the hang of this, you can quickly set Facebook to how you would like to see it — not how the algorithm wants you to see your news feed.
