How to unlock an apple watch automatically when you unlock your iphone

If you forgot the passcode to your Apple Watch, you’ll need to reset the watch and set it up again.

How to reset your Apple Watch if you forgot your passcode

  1. Put your watch on its charger and keep it there until you complete these steps.
  2. Press and hold the side button until you see Power Off.
  3. Press and hold the Digital Crown until you see Erase all content and settings.
  4. Tap Reset, then tap Reset again to confirm.
  5. Wait for the process to finish, then set up your Apple Watch again. When asked, restore from a backup.

Erasing all content and settings erases all media, data, and settings from your Apple Watch, but it does not remove Activation Lock. To remove Activation Lock, unpair the watch first. Before your watch is erased, a backup of its contents is created on your iPhone.

How to reset your Apple Watch using your paired iPhone

  1. Keep your Apple Watch and iPhone close together until you complete these steps.
  2. Open the Watch app on your iPhone, then tap the My Watch tab.
  3. Tap General > Reset.
  4. Tap Erase Apple Watch Content and Settings, then tap it again at the bottom of the screen to confirm. You might need to enter your Apple ID password.

  • For Apple Watch models with GPS + Cellular, choose to keep or remove your cellular plan:
    • If you want to pair your Apple Watch and iPhone again, keep your plan.
    • If you don’t want to pair your Apple Watch and iPhone again, remove your plan. If you aren’t going to pair with a different watch or iPhone, you might need to contact your carrier to cancel your cellular subscription.
  • Wait for the process to finish, then set up your Apple Watch again. When asked, restore from a backup.
  • Instead of tapping out your PIN code on the way-too-small number pad, here’s how you can use your iPhone to unlock your watch.

In order to secure your Apple Watch, Apple asks you to enter a PIN code on initial setup. The watch then knows each time you’ve taken it off your wrist, and requires you to enter your PIN on a tiny number pad to unlock it.

The benefits are twofold. First, your information is secure should someone steal your watch. Second, having a PIN set on your watch is the only way you can use Apple Pay.

However, entering that code isn’t the best experience. It works, sure, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve entered the wrong code only to be forced to do it again.

Instead of suffering through entering your code, you can unlock your watch by simply unlocking your iPhone after enabling a setting using either your iPhone or the Apple Watch. You only need to do the following on one device.

    On an iPhone

    On the Apple Watch

    • Open the Settings app.
    • Scroll to the bottom of the list and tap on Passcode
    • Slide the switch next to Unlock with iPhone to the On position.

The next time you put your watch on, press the Digital Crown to light up the screen. Then instead of entering your PIN, pick up your iPhone and unlock it by entering your passcode or using Touch ID.

Each time the owner removes the Apple Watch from their wrist, the device will automatically lock. This will prevent others from accessing your data. When locked, the watch can’t be used for any purpose other than telling the time.

    Lock Apple Watch

You can lock your Apple Watch at any time, even while wearing it on your wrist. However, you’ll need the passcode to unlock it! Note that when the Apple Watch is locked, all notifications you receive will go to your iPhone.

How to Lock and Unlock Apple Watch

    • Lift your wrist to wake the watch.
    • Press and hold the side button.
    • When you see the Power screen, swipe the Lock Device icon to the right. The Apple Watch will lock, and you’ll see the Lock icon at the top of the display.
    • When you’re ready to unlock the device, tap the screen, and you’ll see the Enter Passcode screen.
    • Enter your passcode on the screen, and the watch face will appear.

    Restarting the Apple Watch

The Apple Watch should run smoothly without any issues. However, sometimes the user will need to restart the device to resolve problems with software, slowdowns, etc. Restarting the Apple Watch will close all the applications that are running, so the device should then be working at full speed.

How to Restart the Apple Watch

    • Press and hold the side button.
    • As soon as the Power screen appears, tap Power Off, and slide it to the right to power the device off.
    • Press and hold the side button again.
    • When the Apple logo appears on the screen, release the side button.
    • The watch face appears, locked.
    • Tap the watch face.
    • When you see the Enter Passcode Screen, type the passcode to unlock the Apple Watch and resume using it.

When you first set up your Apple Watch, it asks you to create a passcode. With the feature enabled, you have to enter it every time you put on the Apple Watch. But what if you could unlock the wearable automatically using your iPhone?

The passcode on the Apple Watch is necessary for security reasons, especially as it’s the only way you’ll be able to use Apple Pay on your Apple Watch. But entering the passcode a couple of times a day can get annoying quickly.

Using a setting in the Watch app, you can automatically unlock your Apple Watch when you unlock your iPhone.

To set this up, open the “Watch” app on your iPhone. Use the Apple’s Spotlight Search feature if you’re having a hard time finding it on your home screen. Next, from the “My Watch” tab, go to the “Passcode” section.

    1. Make sure both Apple Watch and iPhone are close together.
    2. Run the “Apple Watch” app from iPhone and then select the “My Watch” tab.
    3. Navigate to “General > Reset” option.
    4. Here, on the Reset screen, Tap “Erase Apple Watch content and settings” option. Follow the onscreen instructions; Apple ID may be required to complete this step.

    1. Make sure your Apple Watch is conned to power and charging while you are doing these steps.
    2. Here, we need to erase all content and settings. Press the side button and keep holding it until you see the Power Off screen.
    3. Next, Press and hold the “Power Off” slider firmly and then lift or release your finger.
    4. Now tap “Erase all content and settings” option.

    What you need to know

    • Apple is aware that Touch ID won’t always unlock an Apple Watch after installing iOS 14.7.
    • The company says that the feature will return in an “upcoming software update.”

Apple is aware that some people using an iPhone with Touch ID can’t use it to unlock their Apple Watch after installing iOS 14.7 and, importantly, a fix is coming.

Having only been released to the public a day or so ago, Apple’s iOS 14.7 already has a bug that’s causing some consternation among those using iPhones with Touch ID. They’re finding that while their fingerprint used to also unlock their Apple Watch, that’s no longer the case after updating to iOS 14.7. Apple has already acknowledged the bug and says that it will be “addressed in an upcoming software update.” The company hasn’t said when that update will arrive, however, so let’s hope people won’t have to wait for iOS 15 to drop this fall.

When you have Unlock with iPhone turned on, unlocking your iPhone unlocks your Apple Watch as long as you’re wearing it. An issue in iOS 14.7 affects the ability of iPhone models with Touch ID to unlock Apple Watch.

Apple says that for now at least, users should continue to unlock their Apple Watches by entering their passcode manually.

Of course, one way around this could be to upgrade to an iPhone with Face ID seeing as this issue only seems to impact Touch ID devices. Check out our list of the best iPhone deals before you go placing any orders, though! Apple also has its iPhone 13 release just around the corner, so maybe wait for that to arrive before nabbing yourself a new iPhone.
