A reasonable number of our readers ask, “Do I need multi-factor authentication?” and “How do I get two factor authentication?” With Internet swarming with malicious entities, it is only natural to be concerned about online safety these days. Since your accounts contain plenty of information valuable to a criminal, web predators are lurking around, willing to get hold of your sensitive details and steal your identity and, of course, money. To avoid falling victim to online scammers, you need to increase data security for your online accounts. This way, you can rest easy knowing that you are the only person that can sign in. An easy way to achieve this is by enabling two-factor authentication: you get an extra layer of security that forces hackers to give your precious accounts a very wide berth.
So, to know how to protect your accounts from unauthorized use, keep working your way through this article.
What is two-factor authentication?
Whether you like it or not, passwords are not enough. You should use strong ones and store them safely, though – otherwise, your security is at risk. That said, creating a separate, hard-to-crack password for each of your accounts is only the first step towards the peace of mind you deserve. Even if you keep your elaborate passwords well-hidden (which is a must), a skillful thief may find a way to snatch them. To avoid this, you should go that one step further and make use of the two-factor authentication technology.
Two-factor authentication is a convenient and reliable method of securing your online accounts. It allows to overcome the disadvantages of a standard password-only approach by adding another piece of information that verifies your login attempt: in most cases, you get a numeric code on your trusted device and input it in order to gain access to your account. This approach keeps your data extra secure since no one can get into your account without having access to your trusted device (make sure to keep it physically secure) – even if they know your password.
Below you will find detailed instructions on how to safeguard your online accounts, from Apple ID to Amazon, with two-factor authentication.

- Is There A 2 Step Authentication For Verizon Wire.
- Mark as New
- Email to a Friend
Here’s my problem (and if these not a solution for this at present, then this is YOUR problem as well) :
I have both Verizon Wireless as my cell service provider. I use two step authentication wherever possible (Amazon, Google, Yahoo, etc.). This is sometimes called two step verification or multi factor authentication. It basically means that whenever I log on to a service , i have to provide the account name & password and then the service texts me a code that I have to enter.
So how do I do this with Verizon Wireless ? I need to safeguard my account access. And here’s why: via the web portal to my Verizon Wireless account, I can see my texting logs. Fantastic . at first. But this very ability povides a huge achilles heal for my overall protection. If thee is no two step authentication means for my Verizon Wireless access, then once somebody finds a way to log in as me (they learn my account name and password) then they too have access to my texting logs. This, in turn, means they can defeat they two step authentiation I have carefully set up for ALL MY OTHER accounts! (ex: they could then go to my amazon account, login, wait for the 2step auth code to arrive in my Verizon Wireless text logs and enter it. voila! they’ve just gained access to my amazon account.
Please tell me there is a two-step authentication I can turn on for my Verizon Wireless access. Surely, there has to be something. This is the phone company, afterall.
Two-factor authentication is being established in practically all the main services that work with the Internet, promising that it is the safest way to access your different accounts. Let’s see if it really is.
This system of protection of accounts is already a reality. We have all experienced in one or another service since all companies consider it the best way to protect yourself.
Checking twice and considering that one of the parts is not even known to us at first, everything seems to indicate that it is a good form.
At least, in theory, we are facing a system that increasingly complicates the possible entry of unwanted people to any of the services that have this way of accessing.
What is two-factor authentication?
The two-step verification process involves entering the username and password you normally use and that, in theory, only you know and then confirming another second password that will arrive, in most cases, on your mobile terminal.
This is a way of double making sure that you are the one entering since the second verification arrives on your phone number and is only valid for a few hours.
There are other cases in which the verification code is sent directly to the corresponding app, as in a bank. If you do not have the application, you will not be able to put this type of verification into operation.
Advantages and disadvantages of two-factor authentication
The biggest advantage is that you will have greater security to enter the account of the services that have this system. It not only depends on an already known password, which someone may have already seen, but you will also have another one that they send you. This is a great advantage.
We can include in the disadvantages section the fact of having to waste a little more time accessing the account since after entering the username and password, you must wait for the SMS verification code.
But this, at the end of the day, is a matter of getting used to, and it is not a big problem either. The biggest problem is when you have to enter and do not have your mobile at hand for whatever reason. This is usually solved with alternatives that all these systems have incorporated.
For example, Google has some alternative codes to use in case you don’t have your mobile with you at the moment, so you also have a solution.
Another thing that we can consider as a problem, but that occurs less and less, is when giving permission to third-party applications to access our accounts since we will not be able to grant them the second password as it is only for us.
This is something that has been solved with the OAuth protocol. Thanks to it, it is possible to permit each application directly, even if you have the two-factor authentication active.
Activate verification code
As you will understand, each application or each account has its own system to activate two-step verification. It is true that the main services already allow you to implement this form to enter. We must be clear that it is not mandatory but highly advisable.
The issue is that to activate it, you cannot follow a pattern. Each one places this activation in different places. But if we can see how to do it in some of the main services that we all use often.
To activate this type of verification in WhatsApp, you must follow a few simple steps:
- Go to Settings by pressing the three vertical buttons in the upper right part of the main screen.
- Enter Account.
- You will see a section called Two-Step Verification, where you must click.
- In the window of the configuration wizard of this service, you have to enter where it says Activate.
- It will ask you for a 6-digit PIN which it will not request when you register your phone number in WhatsApp. You have to confirm it twice.
- After writing at that moment, you have to write an email twice. You will use this email in case you do not remember the PIN.
Activating this type of verification in a Google account is much easier than you could imagine. You only have to do the following:
- Open your Google account.
- In the navigation panel, select Security.
- Now in Sign in to Google. Select Two-step verification, and then click on Start.
- At that time, it asks you for your phone number, and at the bottom, you can choose how you want to receive the codes, whether by text message or by phone call.
- They will send us an SMS with a code to verify the phone number.
- Once it is validated, you can activate the verification in two steps by simply clicking on Activate.
Your Amazon platform account also makes this security system available to you. You have to carry out the following steps:
- Enter My Account on Amazon.
- Go to Login and security.
- Click on Edit within the Two-Step Configuration (2SV) option.
- In the next window that appears, click on First steps to begin the process.
- Then they will ask us for a phone number. You must choose if you want a call or SMS message for the code, and then they will verify the number you have given them.
- That way, the two-step verification will already be active for your Amazon account.
If we normally use the PayPal system to pay online, you should know that you can also activate two-factor authentication. For this, you must do the following:
- Go to Settings within PayPal.
- Click Security Center at the top of the page.
- Then click on Configure next to Two-step verification.
- Choose between receiving a text message or using an authenticator app, and then click Next.
- Follow the instructions to configure your mobile number or the application if you have chosen that method.
- You must configure an alternative method in case any of the above fails.
- Click on Done, and you will activate the two-step verification.
As you have been able to read, this type of verification is an additional security measure so that you can take care of your account in the main services that work right now.
It is highly advisable to have greater control over access to your accounts and prevent third parties from accessing them just by knowing the password.
Step-by-step guide explains how to enable 2FA on Xbox, and why two-factor authentication is important to keep your account secure.
It happens again and again that even large companies like Apple, Amazon, Microsoft or Google are hacked. To protect your data from unauthorized access, more and more services are introducing the additional security level of 2FA two-factor authentication, sometimes also called two-step authentication.
To protect your Xbox account and prevent others from accessing your information, we recommend that you should enable two-factor authentication (sometimes referred to as two-step verification). This prevents someone who manages to get your password from using it. We’ll show you how to set it up to keep your account safe.
What is 2FA and why is it important?
There are a number of Xbox settings you should know about, and two-factor authentication is one of them. Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a layer of protection when you sign in to accounts such as your email, Amazon app, or even Xbox. Most well-known companies offer 2FA, and the reason is simple: security.
Once you turn on 2FA and sign in to your Xbox account, you’ll be prompted to confirm that you really are, either via SMS, authentication code, or confirmation email. Even if a hacker received your username and password, they would still not be able to access your account and create an invoice that you would have to pay for.
- With two-factor authentication, your account is not only secured with your user name or your e-mail and the associated password, but also with a further query. This differs from provider to provider.
- The additional security level usually consists of the request for an additional password that is only generated for this one login. Depending on the company, you will receive the code via the associated app, an alternative program or via SMS.
- The two-factor authentication makes your account much more secure. If hackers manage to get your login data, they will also need your smartphone to receive the code.
How to enable 2FA for Xbox One and Series X | S online
- Go to your Microsoft account and sign in.
- Click Security (and log on again because this is sensitive information that you access here).
Select Advanced Security Options . If you haven’t already, Microsoft will ask you to add a phone number or backup email address to protect your account. You must also check this address. An old email account is the bare minimum to activate 2FA on your Xbox account.
Back to setting up your 2FA. In the advanced security options, you can add more accounts for 2FA. Just click Add New Way to sign in or check . Then select the method you want to use, from email and phones to Windows Hello to the Microsoft Authenticator app.
How to sign in to Xbox with 2FA
So what can you expect when you turn on your Xbox with 2FA enabled?
When you sign up, you’ll be asked if you really are. In the drop-down menu, press A to switch between the different verification methods, and then select Next .
Check your phone or email for the verification code and enter it using the number field. If you do it right, you will be redirected directly to the home screen.
To activate Xbox using the Microsoft Authenticator app
Microsoft’s Authenticator app (available on Windows, Android, and iOS) is an excellent companion for 2FA on Xbox. Instead of having to retrieve your emails or copy a code sent in a text message, you can simply use the app.
- First, you need to sign in to your Xbox/Microsoft account.
- After you sign in, your account will appear in the list.
- You can now select the Authenticator app when you select a 2FA verification method.
- Open the app instead of retrieving a code from another location. You should see a “one-time password code” with a timeout next to it.
- If your Xbox prompts you to do so, enter this number (if you sign in to your Microsoft account online with the app, hold down the password to copy it).
It behaves like any text or e-mail code, just without so much effort. You should now have access to your Xbox. If the timer has expired before typing, just wait for the app to generate the next code and use it instead.
How to turn off Xbox two-factor authentication for Xbox
Do you no longer want to use 2FA on your Xbox? It’s easy to turn it off.
- Go to the Microsoft account and select Security.
- Return to the advanced security options .
- Scroll in two steps until confirmation.
- Select Turn Off.
- Confirm your selection with Yes .
You don’t need to verify your identity now before you can play games on your Xbox.
How to use 2FA on Xbox to back up your account
With the added protection 2FA provides, there’s no reason not to perform two-factor authentication on your Xbox or any other account that supports it.
It’s easy to set up, easy to use, and if you choose an authentication app, you can quickly get back into your games.

Two-factor authentication is a security feature that adds an extra layer of security for your account. If you enable this feature, you need to enter your account password and a special verification code sent to your phone via text, voice, or mobile app. This code is specific to your account and changes every time you sign in.
There are different types of two-factor authentication,
You receive the verification code through an authenticator app. You can download any free authenticator app such as VIP access, Google Authenticator, and Microsoft Authenticator. On your phone’s App store, search for an authenticator app and install it.
You receive the verification code to your mobile phone through a text message.
Voice phone call
You receive the verification code through a voice call to the number of your choice. The number can be a mobile or landline. Note down the code that you hear.
Your authentication happens through the FIDO secure key. Insert the key to the USB port of your computer and press the button when prompted for verification.
To use this method, you must first register the FIDO U2F (Universal Second Factor) security key using the Chrome browser. You cannot register the FIDO secure key using a different browser. After you register the key with your account, you can use the button that is available on the key to authenticate.
Sign in to your account.
In the top-right corner of the page, hover over your profile icon and then click Account Settings .
In the Two-Factor Authentication section, click Set Up .
If you see Verify your email instead of Set Up, it is likely that your email address has not been verified by Norton. Click Verify your email to receive a verification email. Open the email and click Confirm Now to verify your email address.
Choose any one of the following primary verification methods.
You need to set up two methods (primary and backup). You can change them at any time by signing in to your account.
If you want to use an authenticator app, do the following:
Select Mobile authenticator app and then click Next :
Download any authenticator app on your phone from Google Play or App store, or open an authenticator app that you already have on your phone and do the following:
Scan the QR code on the screen with your authenticator app to register your account with the app.
Enter the six-digit code shown on the authenticator app.
If you want to use a security key, do the following:
Select Security key and then click Next .
Connect the security key to the USB port in your device.
Push or touch the button in the security key.
If you want to get the code as a message or voice on your mobile, do the following:
Select Mobile phone number and then click Next .
Enter your mobile number to which you want to receive the code as SMS. To receive the code as a voice message, click Call me with a code .
Enter the six-digit code that you received and click Verify .
You are shown 10 different single-use security codes that you can use to login to your account if you have trouble receiving the two-factor security codes on your phone. Click Download or Print to save the backup codes.
To set up a backup method, next to Backup Methods , click Add a new method .
Choose any one of the backup methods for receiving the code. Depending on your choice, use the information in the above steps to set up the method.
Backup method is used in case your primary method does not work. So, choose a different method than the one that you set up for a primary method. For example, if you have selected Mobile authenticator app as the primary method, choose Mobile phone number or Security key as the backup method.
Sign in to your account.
In the top-right corner of the page, hover over your profile icon and then click Account Settings .
In the Two-Factor Authentication section, click the Turn Off button.
In the pop-up that appears, click Turn Off .
If you want to remove all your existing two-factor authentication details, select Also clear all my Two-Factor Authentication settings .
Sign in to your account.
In the top-right corner of the page, hover over your profile icon and then click Account Settings .
In the Two-Factor Authentication section, click Show codes .
If you have used a code, it appears as a strikethrough number. You cannot use this code for future logins.
If you have used all your backup codes or want to get new backup codes, click Get New Codes .
If you get new backup codes, your current backup codes will no longer work.
Verification code not received or did not work
The verification code that you receive is valid only for a specific time duration. Ensure that you sign in to your account as soon as you receive the code.
If you did not receive the verification code on your phone or the code did not work, you have to request for a new verification code by signing again to your account.
If you use an authenticator app, open the app to get the new verification code. If the verification code that you received does not work, wait for some time and then use a new verification code.
If you use an authenticator app for both primary and secondary methods, ensure that you are using the right code associated with the account.
Lost my mobile device
If you have lost your mobile device, you must use the same phone number in your new mobile device to receive the verification code via a text message or voice message.
If you have previously signed in to your account from a trusted computer and checked that the computer should remember you, you can sign in from that computer without a verification code. Once you sign in to your account, turn off two-factor verification until you can again get verification codes.
Receiving the verification code only in English
Currently, the verification code sent as a voice or text message is available in English only. We are working to make it available in other languages. However, if you do not want the verification code in English, you can use an authenticator app to generate the code. Download any free authenticator app on your phone from Google Play or App store.
One of the verification method did not work
If you cannot access one of the methods to receive the verification code, you need to use an alternate method. For example, if you cannot receive voice messages on your phone, you can use the text message method or the authenticator app.
If all of the methods you used to enroll are not accessible to you, your account is locked and we cannot assist you with providing access to your account. In case your account gets locked, you may have to create a new account.

Если вы включили двухфакторную аутентификацию и от вас требуется ввести код в целях безопасности, вы можете сгенерировать его на мобильном устройстве. Подробнее о том, как получить код для настройки двухфакторной аутентификации.
In the Settings area, click “Change Account Settings.” It might ask you to enter your login information again.
Then next to “Advanced Security Settings,” click the “Edit” button.
Then click the “Get Started” button and Amazon will walk you through setting up the two-factor system.
When you’re done, your account will be much safer. Just note that if you stay logged in to Amazon on your computer, anyone who gets on your computer will still have access to your account.
Open Facebook in your browser. Click the downward triangle in the upper right corner and select Settings. Then click Security in the left column to go to the Security Settings screen.
In the right column click “Login Approvals” and then click the checkbox for “Require a security code to access my account from unknown browsers.” Follow the directions to add your cellphone number to your account. Whenever you want to use Facebook on a new computer or browser, you’ll receive a text with the code that you need to enter.
You can manage what browsers are “known” and “unknown” in the “Your Browsers and Apps” area on the Security Settings screen. If your phone or computer is lost or stolen, go in to this section and remove that gadget’s browser(s) from the list. That means whoever has your gadget won’t be able to get into your account.
Facebook can also email you whenever an unfamiliar browser tries to access your account. This is a good way to learn if someone is trying to access your account without your permission. To get this feature, go back to the Security Settings screen turn on “Login Notifications.”
Log into your Google account at https://myaccount.google.com/ and then scroll down to the “Signing in” section. Click “2-Step Verification” and then click “Start setup” and follow the steps to add your phone number.
Google will send you a verification code to ensure that you actually own the phone. Enter the code into the site and you’re done.
Any time you log in to Google on an unfamiliar browser or computer, you’ll need to enter a code. You can choose to get future codes by phone call, text or using Google’s Authenticator app.
Like Facebook, you can also get notifications when someone suspicious tries to access your account. In the Google Account Settings screen, scroll down to “Recent activity” and click “Notifications & alerts settings.”
You can choose what triggers a notification and where Google sends it. At the very least, turn on “Suspicious attempt to access account.”
Bonus hint: If you sell or give away your smartphone or tablet, make sure you go to Account Settings>>Recent activity and click Devices. Find the gadget you no longer own, select it and click the big red “Remove” button to make sure it can’t connect to your Google account in the future.
When you created your Microsoft account for Windows 8, Skype, Hotmail/Live/Outlook or some versions of Office, if you added a phone number or alternative email address Microsoft has already turned on 2FA by default.
To double-check, or to set up 2FA, go to your Microsoft account at https://account.live.com. Then under Security & Privacy” click “Advanced Security Settings.” It should ask you to prove your identity by entering a security code sent to your phone or alternative email address.
If it doesn’t, you’ll need to go to the “Two-step verification” section and click “Set up two-step verification.” Microsoft will walk you through setting up your phone or email to get security codes. It will also tell you how to get an authenticator app for your smartphone, set up a recovery code to take back your account if hackers do get in, and create secure app codes for Microsoft gadgets that pre-date 2FA, such as the Xbox 360 and Windows Phone 8.
Even if you already have 2FA turned on, clicking “Set up two-step verification” is a good way to make sure every option you want is enabled. You can also do this manually for individual security features if you scroll down the page past the “Two-step verification” section.
At the end of the page, you can also reset your trusted devices. These are the browsers and gadgets where you’ve told Microsoft not to bug you with security codes. If you’ve had a gadget stolen or you accidentally told Microsoft not to bug you on a public computer, resetting your trusted devices is a good idea.
On the account page under “Security & Privacy” you can also click the “Check Recent Activity” link to see what gadgets and browsers are using or trying to access your account.
Go to your Apple ID page, click Manage Your Apple ID and then sign in. Choose Password and Security. Select “Get Started” in the Two-Step Verification menu. Apple will walk you through the setup process.
In order to protect your account for payment, you need to enable two-factor authentication (using the Google Authenticator app).
This will also open all payment methods that are available to players in your country to withdraw earnings.
If you do not connect two-factor authentication, then you need to tell your personal manager which payment method to connect and to which details. In this case, without two-factor authentication, the withdrawal of earnings will be available only to this fixed method and only to specific details.
All this is necessary to secure your account and your money!
How to connect Google Authenticator:
- Download the Google Authenticator app on your phone (iOS / Android)
- Turn on two-factor authentication in the settings of your player account (exactly the one that you and your manager set up for paying out earnings)
- Scan the QR code via the smartphone app and enter the code.
How to enable two-factor authentication step by step
1. Log into your player account (which you set up with your manager to pay your earnings — not in the affiliate program).
2. Go to My Account -> Personal Profile:
3. Click on Two-factor authentication:
4. Download the Google Authenticator app:
5. Open Google Authenticator app, scan the QR code. Enter code in this field:
6. Click on the “Save” button
Congratulations! Your payout account is now secure and ready to withdraw money. Every time you go to withdraw money, you will need to enter a new code from Google Authenticator. Remember, this is all to keep your money safe!
ATTENTION! DO NOT uninstall the Google Authenticator app. If you have any difficulties with setting up Google Authenticator, please contact your personal manager. You can also inform your personal manager about one payment method, which you will always use to withdraw money. Withdrawing money will be available only for this method, and not for any other. This is done so that even if scammers steal your account in any way, they will not be able to steal your money, since the withdrawal will be available only for one method with your details, which can only be changed by your manager.
No doubt you have heard of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) if you’ve been reading our articles. I’m a big fan of it myself. But do you know what it is and what it does? Well, in layman’s terms it’s another layer of protection.
2FA works by making you enter more than just your user credentials to log into your accounts. Two-factor authentication also needs a special code, something that only you have access to. It can be a specific word or a secret question. This makes brute-forcing your accounts much more difficult since the hackers would need to guess not only your password but the 2FA code as well.
Two-factor authentication has become a staple of security within virtually every big company like MSN, Yahoo, and Google. In fact, Google has been using 2FA for nearly a decade now.
How do I enable Two-Factor Authentication on my Fidelity account?
There’s no special procedure. You will be asked to enter a unique security code to verify your identity whenever you execute highly sensitive transactions.
How do I get this security code?
The special security codes are received by SMS and automated phone calls to your phone. Fidelity gets your phone number from the contact information you enter in your client profile. It’s crucial that you keep your personal information up to date if you want 2FA to work.
How do I use the security code once I get it?
You only need to use this code when asked for it. As I said before, you’ll only be prompted for it during certain actions and transactions.
What do I do if the security code doesn’t work?
Make sure you’ve entered the code correctly if it is the correct code and it still doesn’t work press “Select “Request a new code”.
Fidelity will send you a new security code, assuming you’re using a mobile phone. If you’re using a landline phone you’ll get an automated call instead.
What do I do if I don’t have a phone near me?
It’s still possible to get a security code even if you don’t have your main phone on you. If you have entered an alternate phone number on your profile, you can receive the code on that phone. In the event, you do not have a second phone listed you’ll have to press the “Select this link if you can’t receive a code” link to talk to Fidelity rep who can help you.
What if I don’t have a mobile phone?
Then you can receive a security code via an automated call to the landline phone you’ve listed.
