Success is not an action that you take, it’s a way of life. If you want to accomplish great things, greatness must be reflected in everything that you do.
Thus, regardless of what it is you want to accomplish, the path to success must begin by adopting the right mindset.
The following are 5 tips to develop the perfect mindset for success.
1. Define What Success Means
The first step to building a mindset for success is to define what it means to succeed.
Setting goals for yourself makes it easier to come up with a plan of action to achieve your ambitions, and will motivate you to carry out that plan.
It also gives you a standard against which to measure your progress and adjust your strategy. You should thus define life or career goals and then think about what you need to do to achieve them.
Try setting SMART Goals in each area of your life that you want to change.
In addition, create short-term each day or week, making sure to align them with your broader aims.

2. Stay in Touch With Your Intuition
The second step to building a mindset for success is to stay in touch with your intuition.
Many assume that success means making calculated decisions based on empirical data. While you should try to be as empirical as possible, such data is not always available.
No matter your specific path, you will likely have to make a decision at some point during your life or career where there is no calculable answer.
In this situation, you must be able to listen to your intuition. Though it is not a perfect source of information, our intuitions can often sort out problems more quickly than conscious thought can.
This will allow you to make decisive choices in difficult situations.
3. Always Keep a Positive Attitude
Never underestimate the value of a positive attitude toward achieving your goals.
No matter the path you follow, it can be easy to get discouraged by temporary setbacks or failures to achieve specific goals.
Positive thinking means identifying these setbacks as learning opportunities. This makes it easier to overcome small failures and continue striving toward your goals.
Positive thinking also tends to make you a more pleasant person to be around, allowing you to attract support from others who can help you along the way.
4. Take Action
You need to transfer your thoughts into action. In addition to positive thoughts, a mindset for success also requires your thinking to be productive.
Whenever you are thinking about your goals or obstacles to achieving them, you must be able to identify clear actions you can take in response.
The more readily you can transfer an idea or desire into a practical action, the easier it will be to make progress toward your goals.
5. Take Complete Responsibility
A mindset for success means being able to take responsibility for all that you do, whether good or bad.
If you make a mistake or harm someone along your path, taking responsibility lets you contain the damage and preserve your reputation. It also encourages you to think about how you could avoid that mistake in the future.
Likewise, if you accomplish something, you have to claim responsibility for it. Only then will others realize what you can do and support you on your path to success.

I can tell you that everyone who tries to start an online business faces the same fear and resistance that you’re probably feeling now.
It’s natural. It’s part of it.
But I’ve developed a bulletproof mindset that helps me to overcome fear and achieve success no matter what comes my way.
I’ve learned from many other people on a similar journey and I’ve condensed their advice (and my personal experiences) into three core mindset hacks that you need to succeed in online business.
If you can master your mindset, you can achieve anything you put your mind to.
So what are the secrets to winning with dropshipping (or any online business)?
Success starts with believing in yourself.
You have to believe that you can do it. You have to believe that you’ve got what it takes.
Without self-belief, nothing else will work.
As soon as you run face-first into fear or doubt, you’ll give up.
As soon as you hit a major technical issue with your Shopify store, no responses from suppliers, or a week without sales, you’ll call it quits.
I’ve seen it happen time and time again.
With self-belief, you’ll always find a way to keep going.
Ecommerce success isn’t as easy as the social media “gurus” tell you.
Dropshipping has its challenges.
But you can be successful with the right attitude.
So decide today, right at the beginning of your journey, to believe in yourself.
How to develop self-belief
1. Have a plan
When you have a plan, you can see your future laid out before you step by step. When you hit a roadblock, a clear plan will help you to get
Many highly successful entrepreneurs and athletes practice visualization. It might sound a bit woo woo, but imagining the life you desire and meditating on it seems to increase the chances of it becoming your reality.
3. Set small goals
It might sound counterintuitive, but breaking your plan down into small goals can help you to develop self-belief. When you achieve a small goal, it reinforces the belief that you can achieve the next one. It creates a snowball effect.
2. Know your why
When you’re starting an online business, you need to know why you’re doing it.
A lot of people start selling online because they want to make money quickly with minimal effort.
For those people their why is simply “to make money”.
So when they discover that making money takes more work than they realised, it’s easy for them to give up and move on to the next trendy money-making scheme.
Your why has to run deeper than that.
For me, I have three core whys:
- The freedom and flexibility of being my own boss
- Helping others achieve their business dreams
- Providing a stable and fulfilling life for my family
Do you know what it’s like getting up in the morning with that level of purpose?
It’s invigorating. I can’t think of anything that can break through all three whys and make me want to give up.
There might be days when being my own boss is stressful, or days when I hear customer complaints that get me down.
But there’s no way anything will stop me from providing a good life for my family.
When you know your why, you’ll have all the motivation you need to keep going and be successful.
How to know your why
- Write down all the reasons why you want to start an online business (you can have surface level reasons like “making money” and “quitting my 9-5” and deeper ones like “supporting my children through college”)
- Narrow them down to 3-5 core reasons and create a poster with them using Canva
- Print off the poster and put it somewhere you’ll see it everyday (maybe in your office or on the fridge). Prepare to be unbreakable
3. Take action (and destroy procrastination!)
Procrastination is one of the biggest obstacles for online sellers.
We typically procrastinate because we’re afraid of what might happen when we take action. We’re afraid of failure.
So we tell ourselves that we need more information before we can take action.
We need to make our Shopify store “perfect” before we can launch it.
We need to create the “perfect” dropshipping ad before we can start promoting it.
Perfection is the enemy of action. If you don’t develop the ability to take action, you won’t get anything done.
If you want to be a successful online seller or dropshipper, you must develop an action mindset.
That means letting go of perfection and overcoming procrastination.
That sometimes means taking action when you don’t feel 100% ready, or 100% certain of the outcome.
In the early days of Facebook they had the internal motto: “Move fast and break things.”
At its core, it means that it’s better to execute on ideas quickly and sometimes fail than to take forever making decisions and never actually try anything innovative.
That’s the mindset you need to have to be a successful online entrepreneur.
Online business moves incredibly quickly and you need to learn to move quickly with it.
With an action mindset, you’ll always have an edge on your competitors.
How to develop an action mindset
- Be honest with yourself about what’s holding you back, why you’re procrastinating, and what you’re afraid of
- Understand that perfection is impossible. Be content with “good enough”
- Realize that you can improve and refine as you go
- Accept that making mistakes is part of the learning process
- Commit to taking small actions every day
The mind’s the limit
You can have all of the things you think you need for dropshipping success: A hot product, reliable supplier, well-designed Shopify store, and all the other bells and whistles.
But if you don’t develop a winning mindset, you’ll really struggle to cope with all of the ups and downs of online business.
On the other hand, if you put in the work to develop a success mindset, you’ll be able to weather any storm and overcome any obstacle that comes your way.
It’s not as simple as flicking a switch, or downloading a plugin (although those Matrix-like abilities might not be too far away), but you’ll see much better results in your business if you implement these three mindset hacks.

Ways to achieve a positive mindset include:
When you are living in the moment and are aware of what is going on in the present moment with a kind and open attitude, you are being mindful. Many people worry about the past or the future, which tends to lead to symptoms of stress, depression or anxiety. But, when you attune to the here and now without judgement, you are better able to remain positive and achieve your goals. As your mind wanders, which it’s trained to do, simply acknowledge it and gently bring it back to the present moment by focusing on your breath.
Have an attitude of gratitude.
Being grateful means noticing even the small things in your life that you appreciate. It’s a way to savor the moment, be positive and look for the possibilities in whatever life throws your way. When you do this on a regular basis, it helps to flex your mindset muscles – train yourself to be grateful and express gratitude and notice the good things that happen all around you.
Keep it real.
Life is not easy or peachy keen. As a matter of fact, it is actually more difficult than it is easy, but no one wants to admit this. So let’s face the facts – we have to work at having a positive mindset, period, and anything worth having doesn’t come easy because life is hard.
Engage your internal dialogue.
You know that voice you hear in your head? Well you’re not alone, because we all have an inner voice we hear. The thing is, a lot of people don’t realize that you can in fact engage with that part of yourself, and with a loving and kind attitude, you can work with yourself to mature your mindset.
Commit to it and keep practicing.
People tend to think that knowing what to do is half the battle, but that’s not true. If you don’t put it into practice then it doesn’t do you much good to know it. You have to learn new habits and ways of being, implement them, test them out, and continually work at getting better at them.
Define what success means to you.
At the end of the day, how we define success varies for us all, but this definition is for sure: To achieve well-being, a state of fulfillment and contentment, and a positive mindset is the type of success we should all hope for – the type of success we all need and deserve.
One of the most important things you can do in life is to shift your mindset so that you can truly enjoy the life you’re living. It will be beneficial in nearly all areas of your life, helping you to become healthier, happier, and more successful. Make this the year that you put positivity front and center.

Dr. Carol S. Dweck, pioneer in the study of fixed versus growth mindsets, demonstrated that in predicting success, it doesn’t matter whether someone is gifted or not. What matters is a person’s belief that they can succeed and prevail.
The person who doesn’t succeed is often blocked by a fixed mindset — that is, a mindset that assumes abilities and talents are given, limited and minimally subject to improvement. This person believes they were born with certain qualities, both positive and negative, and that they are largely fixed throughout life. While they usually recognize the value of training and education, when it comes to raising their horizons and imagining a bold and strikingly different future, it’s often just beyond them.
A growth mindset, on the other hand, is one in a constant state of flux and at work improving, expanding and honing all inherent talents and gifts, as well as adding to and improving those acquired along the way. Those of us with a growth mindset can, with time, effort and practice, acquire and improve skills and abilities to accomplish things previously thought impossible. With a real growth mindset, you don’t just believe this, you live it. As Henry Ford is thought to have said, “Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right.”
Ford recognized there’s nothing that will hold you back as much as the belief that you can’t do something. He didn’t call it a “fixed mindset,” but had that term been around back then, he certainly could have. He also might have recognized a fixed mindset as an unhappiness trigger.

Those with a growth mindset are more likely to embrace challenges, use feedback and learn from failures and mistakes rather than dwell on them. Someone with a growth mindset will enjoy learning new things. They will, therefore, accept challenges, persist and be driven to achieve their goals. This can help people be more creative because they are more likely to persistently pursue solutions.
With a focus on bettering oneself rather than protecting oneself, someone with a growth mindset will not feel threatened by the intelligence and success of others. Instead, they will be more likely to admire others, learn from them and find inspiration in their successes.
Drawbacks Of A Fixed Mindset
Those with a fixed mindset are more likely to avoid learning situations because they’re a direct challenge to the ego. With the stakes of success and failure dramatically heightened by the ego’s drive to protect itself, attending a class, for example, becomes less about learning and more about looking for an opportunity to show that they already know all the answers. Someone with a fixed mindset is more likely to avoid challenges, give up easily and see little point in making effort toward a goal.
A Growth Mindset For Freedom
A growth mindset offers more freedom to reach your full potential and stay in alignment with your values instead of being held back by limiting beliefs. With this freedom, everything is possible. And it brings with it the courage and motivation to strive, fail and strive again.
People who experience this type of freedom believe they have the ability to change not only their own lives but also the lives of others. They don’t see things as static.
Practical Steps To Develop A Growth Mindset
Both mindsets are the products of lifelong experiences, observations and education. But with practice, determination and effort, you can develop a growth mindset. Here are some practical steps:
1. First, you must believe you can do it. Use a daily mantra or a similar device. Convince yourself you’re capable of all the change you need. It might take some work to instill this in yourself, but by reminding yourself of the payoff — growth and accomplishment — you can do it.
2. Avoid blaming circumstances or others for your shortcomings. You have to recognize you’re responsible for your own future and for making the most of your innate talents and abilities. So the next time you hear yourself blaming something or someone, take a step back, own up to your responsibility, identify the lesson and move on.
3. Those seeking change must also be curious. Marvel at how much you don’t know. Get used to this feeling. Not knowing is not a reason for fear or shame, but for excitement. Follow up on it by asking questions and seeking more information.
4. Allow yourself to fail. As uncomfortable as that may be, it’s essential that you try and fail, and try and fail again. Every failure is a stepping stone on the path to success. I’m sure I don’t have to remind you of the many famous people who at first failed miserably and then went on to become leaders, influencers and role models.
5. Leave your comfort zone and become at home operating outside it. For many of us, the comfort zone is a refuge, a place to go to be free from challenges. However, “free from challenges” also means “free from growth.” Push yourself and grow.
6. Don’t place undue emphasis on results. Sure, it’s often results that count, but don’t forget to reward yourself for your efforts. Well-earned self-praise for a valiant attempt can sustain you over the long haul. When the going gets tough, process is critical.
7. Be aware of the green-eyed monster, envy. When faced with another person’s success, think, “I’ll use their success as a model for what I want to achieve,” not, “Boy, do I wish I had achieved what they have.” The former spurs you to success; the latter limits you. Use admiration as a tool to guide you along the road to success.
8. Lastly, don’t let the protection of your ego get between you and the changes that could make you happier and more successful. A growth mindset will push you into areas where you feel less comfortable, less accomplished and more afraid. The ego doesn’t like this, but listening to it leads to the path to mediocrity. If you want to shine and excel, you have to be prepared to challenge your ego, limiting beliefs and assumed limitations.

What sets those who accomplish great things apart from those who fail to realize their ambitions? You might guess intelligence, appetite for risk, or even creativity. Those are all sensible-sounding suggestions, but that’s not what science has found.
According to work by pioneering Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck and others, the best predictor of success in life is none of these usual suspects–it’s your mindset. Those who achieve great things generally believe they can improve and grow as people. This is called a “growth mindset.” Those who are frustrated in their attempts to realize their dreams tend to believe their abilities and talents are static, a.k.a. they have a “fixed mindset.” (Read more about the science behind this insight here.)
All of which is fine and good, but raises one essential question. If up to now you’ve tended to view your abilities through the prism of the fixed mindset, is there anything you can do to change? Absolutely, according to a post on Dweck’s website, which lays out steps for fighting back and learning to view your abilities as works in progress. Here they are in brief to get you started.
1. Think of your mindset as a voice
How does a mindset manifest itself? It controls the ways you talk to yourself in the privacy of your own head. Recognizing this fact is the first step to achieving a growth mindset. “As you approach a challenge, that voice might say to you, ‘Are you sure you can do it? Maybe you don’t have the talent’ or ‘What if you fail–you’ll be a failure,'” the post explains, adding that, “As you hit a setback, the voice might say, ‘This would have been a snap if you really had talent.'”
Pay attention to your thoughts and see if you frequently tell yourself anything similar. If so, you’ve spotted the fixed mindset at work, undermining your potential for success.
2. Choose growth
Now that you know what you’re up against, the next step, according to Dweck, is recognizing that you aren’t stuck with the thoughts you currently have. “How you interpret challenges, setbacks, and criticism is your choice,” the post points out. “You can interpret them in a fixed mindset as signs that your fixed talents or abilities are lacking. Or you can interpret them in a growth mindset as signs that you need to ramp up your strategies and effort, stretch yourself, and expand your abilities.”
3. Talk back
When it comes to that limiting voice in your head, feel free to be as sassy as you like in response. Tell that voice exactly what’s wrong with how it’s framing situations, and actively reformulate your approach to challenges and setbacks to reflect a belief in personal growth. The post offers examples:
The fixed mindset says, “Are you sure you can do it? Maybe you don’t have the talent.”
The growth mindset answers, “I’m not sure I can do it now, but I think I can learn to with time and effort.”
Fixed mindset: “What if you fail–you’ll be a failure.”
Growth mindset: “Most successful people had failures along the way.”
Changing the script in your head is a huge step, but Dweck’s site ends with a healthy reminder that the whole point of doing so is to change not just your thoughts, but your actions as well. Don’t content yourself with a remodeled inner voice. Get out there and practice what you’re preaching to yourself.
5. Add this three-letter word

In the video, Dweck suggests that just three little letters can have a huge impact on your mindset.
“We’ve found that putting in certain phrases, like ‘not yet’ or ‘yet,’ can really boost students’ motivation. So if a student says, ‘I’m not a math person–yet’ or ‘I can’t do this–yet,'” she explains, “it puts their fixed mindset statement into a growth mindset context of learning over time.”
Just how important is having a growth mindset if you want to see real change in your life? A growing body of evidence suggests that a fixed mindset can literally prevent us from learning and developing skills.
A Fixed mindset switches us off to learning
Research in neuroscience and psychology has shown that when a fixed mindset is adopted something very revealing takes place in the brain.
Psychologist, Carol Dweck, a world leader in growth mindset theory, conducted a study examining brain activity and mindsets with her team at Columbia University. Participants with either a generally fixed mindset or a generally growth mindset were asked a number of difficult questions. Feedback was then given to participants whilst Dweck’s team measured each person’s brain activity. In this fascinating study researchers found that both the fixed mindset and growth mindset subjects showed a great deal of interest and brain activity whilst being told whether they had answered each question correctly. Any similarity ended here. The growth mindset individuals continued to show a significant amount of brain activity and interest when they had answered a question incorrectly. Growth mindset participants were just as interested in learning the correct answer as they were in finding out whether they were right or wrong.
The fixed mindset group were quite different. Their brain activity was high when being told whether they had answered the question correctly. When told their answer was wrong, fixed mindset individuals lost interest. The level of brain activity literally dialled down when being told the correct answer and explanation. No interest in learning the new information was shown.
Both groups were also given a surprise retest. The fixed mindset group showed significantly less performance improvement than the growth mindset group on the retest.
Growth mindset enables us to learn, change and develop
Another famous study also highlights the problems of a fixed mindset. Psychologists, Robert Wood and Albert Bandura gave MBA students a computer simulated furniture company to successfully manage. The students were divided into two teams. Each team was tasked with placing employees in the right jobs & deciding how best to motivate and guide their workers. Before the students began the task in earnest, each group was primed towards a specific mindset.
One group was told that their performance would enable the researchers to measure their underlying capabilities to succeed at the task. They would either be naturally good at the task or they wouldn’t. In other words, Wood and Bandura encouraged a fixed mindset.
The other group was told that their skills to successfully complete the task would be developed through practice. It was explained that the more they were able to practice the necessary skills to perform the task, the better at cultivating those skills they would become. Wood and Bandura encouraged this group to take a growth mindset approach.
The first task that Wood and Bandura set both groups was deliberately difficult. Unrealistically high production standards were set in the initial task. Both groups fell short of the target. Both groups were then left to manage their company and employees and the progress of each group was monitored over a period of time.
Wood and Bandura found that the growth mindset group worked towards the task consistently. The growth mindset group practiced and developed their skills, they maintained motivation and performed well. The group that had been primed to hold a fixed mindset about the task told a different story. The fixed mindset group gave up on the task. they even did so with tasks that they could easily have achieved. Their performance deteriorated after their failure to succeed at the initial task.
This research perfectly demonstrates how limiting a fixed mindset can be in new learning situations. It also highlights the powerful impact that other people can have on our belief in our own capabilities.
Three tips for avoiding the fixed mindset trap
1) Make the commitment to have faith in your own ability to learn new things and change. Guard against being sidetracked or demotivated by the negative comments of others. Whereas constructive criticism is always helpful, it’s important to develop and listen to your own voice. Filter and decide whether criticism comes from a place of growth or fixed mindset.
2) When taking on a new challenge, be your own cheerleader. Develop the habit of encouraging yourself by using positive self-talk. Focus on how good you will feel when you have mastered your new skill or subject. Think about how you would encourage a friend or colleague if they were embarking on a new learning experience and coach yourself in the same way.
3) Ask yourself, what impact do your words have on those around you? Do you adopt a growth mindset and encourage others to learn, develop and grow? If not, take some time to think of ways in which you can improve the way you interact with others at work and home to encourage a growth mindset culture.

Many people I come across these days have a mindset that is totally working against them. They know what they want, they’re constantly trying to pursue that goal, and making solid effort, but never really reaching anywhere. Heck, I was one of them just a few years ago—I did everything, but nothing seemed to work!
Then, over the course of time, I came across a few good books that helped me start taking action. If we want to succeed, we need to figure out a way to think over the hedge, and we have to understand that we should oversee our own mindsets, our way of working and our ideals of success.
Here is a 7-step formula for living your success from the inside out.
- Define your success – If you don’t define it, you will keep yourself subjected to confusion about your success and your failures. Find out what’s important for you in your personal life, career and health. For an hour of two, set aside your ego, and also your guilt, and think about what a perfect life would be to you.
- Set goals based on your definition – Right now, you’re at a stage where you simply know what success means to you. You’ve no plan, no help, nor any strategy to live that success. So, start by setting goals in the three basic of life: work, relationships, and health.
- Find inspiration and motivation – Setting goals isn’t enough. The next step helps you to find a way to convince your brain to stick to that goal and get inspired about how to move ahead. The best way to find motivation is through books. Go find 2-3 books that can keep your inspired and stay persistent; read them again and again. A few book that worked for me were: 1. Think and Grow Rich 2. Rich Dad Poor Dad 3. Bhagwat Gita 4. The Bible
- Create habits surrounding your goals – Goal-setting works best when you have habits surrounding your goal. Your habits are directly related to the rate of depletion of your motivation levels, so if you’re not habitual about doing things that are needed for achieving your goals, your motivation levels will deplete more quickly.
- Create a routine around your habits – Successful people have this one noticeable thing in their lives: they live their success, whether anyone notices them or not. Learn to live your success. Do the best work you want to end up with today; throw yourself at the toughest of tasks. Make it a routine to commit yourself to that habitual activity, and demand exceptional performance from yourself.
- Stop procrastinating – Routines suck, and even the most successful people will time lapse because of their habit of procrastinating.
