Most of the platforms with purchasable products provide the refund option for their customers. The refunding is needed if the customer purchase the wrong product or the product wasn’t what they expected it to be. Just like Steam, EPIC, and other platforms, the Origin also provides the refund option for their customers. Their Great Game Guarantee allows users to return the games (that they don’t like) for a refund. However, the refund will only be allowed for the games that are eligible to refund.

Getting Refund on Origin Games

The Great Game Guarantee only applies to the games that are purchased through Origin and not a third-party store. The third-party platform or store will have its own return policy and have nothing to do with Origin policy. The Origin policy states the following rules for refund.

If a user is getting technical issues that are outside of their control (from Origin side) on the new game that just got released within 30 days, they can request a refund. The refund can be requested within 72 hours after the first launch of the game instead of 24.

Origin allows refund only twice for any game and not anymore. You will still be able to buy the game the third time, but there won’t be any refund for the third time. If the user purchases the DLC and in-game items separately, then they are also not refundable.

You can follow the below steps to request a refund for the game that you purchased from Origin:

  1. Open the Origin official site and log in to your account. You can also open the Origin application while logged in.
  2. Move mouse over the Account name and choose the EA Account and Billing option. How to get refunds for ea origin gamesEA account and billing option
  3. Here select the Order History on the left side. Select any of the recent orders and choose the Refund option.
Note: The refund option will only show if the game is eligible for a refund.

  • This will successfully request a refund for the game. It will take time for the support team to confirm the refund of your product.
  • However, if you didn’t find your order in the list for a refund, then you can contact the Origin Support team so that they can help you out with the problem.

How to get refunds for ea origin games

Origin’s “Great Game Guarantee” applies to all games published by EA itself and a few third-party games. If you’re not happy with a game purchase, you can return it for a refund—just like on Steam. Origin began offering refunds before Steam did, but Steam’s refund policy does apply to a wider selection of games.

How Origin’s Great Game Guarantee Works

Origin’s Great Game Guarantee allows you to return games for a full refund. You can return the game for whatever reason you like. “If you don’t love it, return it”, encourages Origin’s website. However, not all games are eligible for this guarantee.

All of EA’s own games are eligible for the Great Game Guarantee if you purchase digital copies of them on Origin. A few third-party games are eligible, but most third-party games on Origin are not. You’ll see whether a game is eligible for the Great Game Guarantee during the purchase process.

Only digital copies of games are eligible. If you buy a physical boxed copy of a game that comes with an Origin code and redeem that code on Origin, there’s no way to refund the game and get your money back if you don’t like it.

Only full games are eligible for a refund. You can’t refund a downloadable content (DLC) purchase.

How to get refunds for ea origin games

Even if a game you purchase is eligible for a refund, there are some limitations. If you’ve launched the game, you can request a refund within 24 hours from the time you first launched the game. That means if you want to play a few hours before you decide to keep it, you have to play them all on that first day. This is different than Steam’s policy, which lets you refund a game up to 14 days after purchase (not launch), but will only let you play for two hours. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

If you haven’t launched the game, you can request a refund from within seven days of the time you purchased the game. If you pre-ordered the game but haven’t launched it yet, you can request a refund from within seven days of the game’s release date.

There’s one other exception for new EA games: If you buy an EA game within 30 days of its release date and you can’t play it due to technical problems like server issues, game bugs, or other problems under EA’s control, you can request a refund from within 72 hours of the time you first launch the game instead of the usual 24 hours.

So, when you buy an eligible game on Origin, be sure to try it out within a week and make a decision on whether you want to keep it within 24 hours after you first launch it. Here are the full terms of the guarantee.

    How to Refund a Game

To refund a game, visit the Request a refund page on EA’s website and sign in with your Origin account.

You’ll see a list of games you own that are currently eligible for a refund. Click the “Select” button to the right of the game you want to refund and click “Next”.

How to get refunds for ea origin games

Select the reason you want to return the game and click “Confirm”. Whether you thought the game was too short, too buggy, or not fun enough, or whether you couldn’t connect to the servers or just bought the game by accident, you’re eligible for a refund. There’s an “Other” option you can choose if your issue doesn’t appear in the list.

It doesn’t matter which reason you select, but you can provide more information to Origin and the game’s developers by selecting a precise reason.

I thought EA uses it for activation these days on all games whether they were physical or not?

Shouldn’t be a big deal, you can set it to not automatically start.

Its interesting the FAQ mentions “fun and social online gameplay elements”. I half wondered if that is why the worlds were still closed, but I haven’t heard anything regarding these “elements”.

origin IS required. Physical or digital, as the game needs origin when installing to register the game.

Times change off course. I migrated all my keys to Origin back then and gave my physical copies away. My Origin is always off and doesn’t get activated when I start TS3, so yeah. it isn’t needed, as I entered most of my keys on this site first before I finally made the decision to go all digital.

It can also very well be that the physical copy of TS4 has the latest version of Origin on the disk and installs anyway. Not really a problem too, since your EA-account is also your Origin account.

In Origin’s defence though, it has come a long way since those early days and having Origin has the added benefit of being gifted free games on a regular basis. The current free game is Peggle, so they can keep that. But a while ago I scored Dead Space for free.

I have used Origin all the way back when it was EADM, EA Download Manager, before they bought out the Origin program. And the ONLY time in the last seven or so years I have used it, was during the month of June when there patch rendered downloading our games inoperable. Finally after some blustering, starting a petition on change.org, they finally and quietly fixed it over a weekend at the end of June. But other than that, it has always worked. I didn’t think to see if I could sign out while I am playing the demo. When I get a chance I will and let you know if it still works.

Oh and I love the free games.

Origin is your go-to hub for every genre of game that EA has to offer. Available across PC and mobile platforms, the Electronics Art owned gaming distribution platform has a lot in store. These include the Battlefield series, FIFA 20, Need for Speed Payback, Sims 4, Star Wars, and other such highly reputable games. Apart from that, there’s also an option to connect with friends, stream via Twitch and integration with many networking sites like Facebook and Xbox Live, just to name a few.

The store also has a section of user reviews and game ratings, on which many users base their purchasing decisions. However, not everyone has the same taste and it might happen that even after gathering many positive reviews, it might fail to live up to your personal standard. So if you have purchased a game based on what others have to say, but now are lamenting your decision, then worry not.

You could pretty easily ask for a refund on most of the Origin games if you meet their requirements. In this guide, we will list down all the important prerequisites that need to be met in order to get a refund. After that, we will give out the instructions regarding how to get a refund on Origin Games. Let’s begin.

How to get refunds for ea origin games

How to Get a Refund on Origin Games

Similar to other game distribution services, EA also gives you an opportunity to return your purchased games. Part of the Great Game Guarantee, you could return the games purchased directly from Origin. And if you meet the refund rules, then you are entitled to a refund.

How to get refunds for ea origin games

But what are these rules in the first place? According to the Origin policy, you can make a refund request:

    • Within 24 hours after you first launch the game.
    • Within 14 days from the day you bought it if you have not launched the game
    • Or within 14 days from the release date if you pre-ordered the game if you haven’t launched it yet.

Apart from that, if you have purchased a game within 30 days but are facing technical issues that aren’t within Origin’s control, then these users can request for a refund. In that case, the refund could be done within 72 hours after the first launch of the game (and not the usual 24 hours).

Furthermore, you could only ask twice for a refund on a particular game. You could still go ahead and purchase the game for the third time, but this time, you won’t be able to initiate a refund. Apart from that, the Downloadable Contents (DLC) are also non-refundable. With that said, if you qualify all the above requirements, then here are the steps to ask for a refund on Origin games.

    Steps to Follow

    1. Head over to the Origin website and log in to your account.
    2. Hover the mouse over to your Account, which is present in the bottom left.
    3. From the menu that appears, click on the EA Account and Billing option.
    4. Next up, from the left menu bar, select the Order History option.
    5. You will now see all the games that you have purchased until now. Click on the plus button to expand the menu.
    6. If the game is eligible for a return, you will see a Request Refund option under the Status section, click on it.
    7. In the next menu that appears, you will have to choose the reason for this refund. Select your reason from the “I’m returning this item because” drop-down menu. Then hit Confirm.
    8. The return request for the said Origin game has been initiated from your end. The support team will act accordingly on this request and will refund the amount if you meet all their requirements.

    Conclusion

So with this, we conclude the guide on how to get a refund on Origin games. If you are still facing trouble and or have some issues with respect to the refund amount, kindly get in touch with the Origin Support Team. On that note, here are some iPhone Tips and Tricks, PC tips and tricks, and Android Tips and Tricks that you should check out.

Usually, if you buy software online, you’re kind of stuck with it. But today, EA has set a new policy for games on Origin : you can return game downloads for full refunds within 24 hours of the first time you launch the game, within seven days from when you purchase it, or within the first seven days after the game’s release if you pre-ordered. Whichever happens first.

Here’s the catch: it’s for EA-published games only as of right now. Here’s how you’d go about requesting a refund:

Just visit your order history and click the “request a refund” link next to your recent purchase, answer a few quick questions, and we’ll take it from there.

The policy is effective starting today, but only in 20 countries. It’ll be available worldwide within the next few weeks/by September. It’s worth noting that Steam, by contrast, does not offer refunds or exchanges on games, DLC or in-game purchases.

And here are the nitty-gritty details of how returns will work on Origin:

Full game digital downloads (PC/Mac) published by “Electronic Arts” (collectively Electronic Arts Inc. if you reside in the United States, Canada or Japan and EA Swiss Sarl if you reside in any other country) and purchased on the Origin Store (Origin.com and purchases within the Origin gaming application) may be eligible for a refund if we receive your request within the earlier of: (i) seven (7) days from the date of purchase, (ii) seven (7) days from the game’s release date if you pre-ordered/pre-purchased or (iii) twenty-four (24) hours after the first time the game is launched or run. For full game digital downloads that are part of a bundle, the twenty-four (24) hour time period begins as soon as one game within the bundle is launched. Once a refund is issued, you will no longer have access to the game. To request a refund, visit your Order History and select the “Request a Refund” link next to any eligible product. Complete and submit the Refund Request Form . You will get a response within forty-eight (48) hours after your request is submitted and your refund within seven (7) to ten (10) days if you meet the Great Game Guarantee refund requirements.

    ● If you request a refund for a product that is part of a bundle or a product that comes with bonus content, your refund under this policy may include the entire bundle of products/content, and your access to all included products/content will be revoked. Please note that dual platform products (such as one product that, when purchased, is playable on both PC and Mac platforms) will be treated as bundled content. Before you submit your refund request for bundled products/content, you will be able to see an itemized list of content that must be canceled/refunded together. You may then complete the refund request and cancel all the associated content or you may withdraw your request.

    ● In rare instances, refunds may not be supported for products purchased during special Origin promotions. The promotional details will explicitly state if refunds are unsupported.

    ● Refunds may not be supported where Electronic Arts detects fraud or abuse of the refund process.

    ● Electronic Arts reserves the right to revise the Great Game Guarantee Policy at any time in its sole discretion. Any revisions to the Policy will be effective immediately for all subsequent purchases.
