If you want to keep your Apple Watch from disturbing you with alarms, notifications, or any other sounds, you have no fewer than three different ways to keep it quiet: silent mode, theater mode, and Do Not Disturb. They differ subtly, but all have their place, and are all managed from the same screen.

You control the three quiet modes from your watch’s Control Center, which you access by swiping up from the bottom of any screen. If you don’t see the specific icon you want, either flick the screen up and down with your finger or rotate the watch’s crown.

  • “Silent mode” means your watch will not chime or beep but will vibrate. All other functions work normally. Turn it on and off by tapping the bell icon.
  • “Theater mode” puts your phone into silent mode and also turns off the display, unless you tap it or press a button. Your watch won’t ping or light up, but it will vibrate. Turn this mode on and off by tapping the comedy / tragedy icon.
  • “Do Not Disturb” turns off the haptics, too. You won’t get notified at all — with the important exceptions of alarms and heart rate alerts — and your screen won’t light up when notifications arrive. Turn it on and off by tapping the crescent moon icon.
  • Silent mode
  • Theater mode
  • Do Not Disturb mode
  • Chose how long you want DND mode to last

It’s possible to set up your devices so that turning on Do Not Disturb on your watch will also activate it on your phone (and vice versa).

  • Open the Watch app on your iPhone and scroll down to General.
  • Tap the “Do Not Disturb” menu item.
  • Toggle “Mirror iPhone” to on. This means Do Not Disturb will enable or disable simultaneously on both your iPhone and your watch (and you can control the setting from either device).

When you pick Do Not Disturb mode, you can choose how long you want it to last: until you cancel, for just an hour, until the evening, or until you leave your current location. If you have an event currently occurring in your calendar, then you can also set Do Not Disturb to last until the end of the event.

Apple is a worldwide famous company that, as you already know, makes iPhones, iPads, iPods, and since a few years ago Apple Watches.

An Apple Watch is a device that you simply put on your wrist and you have a little computer with you anywhere you go! It is a device that you have to connect to your iPhone in order to use it. You can, of course, see the time, receive and answer emails, texts and calls and also track your health via Apple Watch.

If you have been using it for a while and you maybe want to know how to turn off the sound and turn on the vibration of the watch, keep reading this post for a step by step guide.

Step by step process:

You can either change the sound and vibration settings on your iPhone or on your watch. We will show you both ways of how you can do this easily.

Using your watch:

  • First, turn on your watch. Go to Home and then hit the Settings button that has a round rotted logo.
  • Once the Settings window has opened, you will now have to scroll down a little until you find the Sound & Haptics option you are going to manage.
  • When you do find it, click on it.
  • Again, scroll down a bit until you see the Haptics Settings section. You will now have to look for the Haptic strength. There you will be able to increase or decrease the vibration sensitivity and strength.
  • If you wish to maximally turn the vibration mode so that it’s really noticeable, you will see the option underneath the Haptics Settings that says Prominent Haptics. It’s a button, and there’s an explanation underneath it. If you wish to turn this on, click on the button. When it turns green you will know that it’s on.

Note: When you are changing the Haptics Settings you will feel how much the vibration of the watch is going to be strong because the watch will vibrate every time you change something

Using your iPhone:

If you wish to change the vibration settings of your watch via your phone, there is also a way to do that.

  • Turn on your phone and go to the Watch application that you must have installed on your phone.
  • Open it and make sure that the My Watch connection is active. If it isn’t, activate it quickly.
  • You should now look for the Sound and Haptics settings on the My Watch screen when you are in the app.
  • Open it and look for the Haptic Strength option on your phone’s screen.
  • Now you are going to be able to set up the strength of the vibration of your watch by simply sliding left or right on the Haptic Strength slider. And while changing it, you will be able to feel the vibration on your watch. Keep changing it until you are satisfied with its strength.
  • Next, look for the Prominent Haptic button that should be right underneath that slider. If it’s turned off, turn it back on by simply clicking on that button until it is colored in green color.

And now you are done, you have successfully put your watch in the vibration mode.

I hope that this article was helpful and that you did manage to follow these steps and do them without any additional problems. If you somehow did not manage to turn this mode on, go back to the beginning of the article, read it carefully, and try both ways that we explained. It should work!

Reduce the Wake Screen time, or turn the feature off

When you raise your wrist to see your watch or tap the screen, it “wakes” the display for a short time.

If you have the wake time set to 70 seconds, that will drain the battery quickly. You should set it to 15 seconds instead.

1. Start the Watch app on your iPhone.

2. On the “My Watch” tab, tap “General.”

3. Tap “Wake Screen.”

4. Tap “Wake for 15 seconds.”

You can also turn off the Wake Screen on Wrist Raise feature, so your watch will only wake the display when you tap the screen or turn the Digital Crown.

Simply disable the “Wake Screen on Wrist Raise” option at the top of the screen.

Re-pair your Apple Watch and iPhone

If your battery is running out faster than it should, it’s possible that there’s something wrong with how your watch and phone are paired.

You can resolve a lot of issues by un-pairing your watch and then re-pairing it as a new watch, which should wipe out any of the corruption that caused the battery glitch.

Here’s how to do it.

1. Start the Watch app on your iPhone.

2. On the “My Watch” tab, tap your watch at the top of the screen.

3. Tap the little “i” to the right of your watch information.

4. Tap “Unpair Apple Watch” and then confirm your choice.

Now that your watch is no longer paired to your phone, follow the instructions in our article “How to pair an Apple Watch with your iPhone” to set up your watch as a new device.

Turn off some push notifications

Sending a lot of notifications to your watch can also seriously drain your battery. You should only enable the most essential notifications.

1. Start the Watch app on your iPhone.

2. On the “My Watch” tab, tap “Notifications.”

3. For each app listed on the Notifications page, tap the app and specify whether it should be allowed to send notifications. Some apps default to “Mirror my iPhone.” If that’s the case, change the setting to “Custom,” and you will be able to fine-tune the notifications.

Manually stop workouts at the end of an exercise routine

When the Apple Watch is in workout mode, it uses a little extra battery power, since it measures your heart rate continuously, instead of every few minutes.

If your watch doesn’t realize your workout has ended for a while, it can keep running at higher power longer than needed.

Instead, get in the habit of ending a workout manually by swiping the screen to the right and tapping “End.” For more information, see our article “How to start a workout on your Apple Watch in 2 different ways.”

Turn off Background App Refresh

When Background App Refresh is on, apps can exchange data between the iPhone and Apple Watch, so they always have current data when needed.

This can affect battery life, of course, so you can turn the feature off entirely, or select specific apps.

1. Start the Watch app on your iPhone.

2. On the “My Watch” tab, tap “General.”

3. Tap “Background App Refresh.”

4. On the Background App Fresh page, you can disable the feature entirely by swiping the button at the top of the screen to the left. Or, you can enable and disable specific apps so only the apps most important to you get refreshed automatically.

Turn on Reduce Motion

This feature controls some graphical effects and animations which can drain the battery.

1. Start the Watch app on your iPhone.

2. On the “My Watch” tab, tap “General.”

3. Tap “Accessibility.”

4. Tap “Reduce Motion.”

5. Turn on “Reduce Motion” by swiping the button to the right.

Set your Apple Watch alarm to vibrate for a gentle awakening that won’t bother those around you.

Did you know you can set an Apple Watch alarm to silently wake you via gentle vibrations on your wrist? Making your Apple Watch alarm vibrate instead of waking you with a loud alarm tone is quick and easy, and reduces disturbances to others around you. We’ll show you how to set a silent Apple Watch alarm.

Why You’ll Love This Tip

  • Set an alarm to go off while you’re in a crowded place—like an airplane—without disturbing those around you.
  • If you have trouble waking up using traditional alarms, the vibrations on your wrist might actually wake you up more effectively than noise does.

How Use Your Apple Watch as a Silent Alarm Clock

Unfortunately, there’s not a way to make a silent Apple Watch alarm without setting the entire watch to Silent mode, but it’s still a great solution for those who keep their Apple Watch set to Silent mode anyway! To learn more about different ways you can use your Apple Watch, sign up for our Tip of the Day newsletter.

Here’s how to set your Apple Watch alarm to vibrate only:

Swipe up on the Apple Watch face.

  • Tap on the bell icon to switch your Apple Watch to Silent Mode.
  • The icon will turn red, and the bell will now have a strike through it.

  • Press the Digital Crown to go to your Apple Watch’s app menu.
  • Tap on the Alarm app.

Scroll all the way to the bottom and tap Add Alarm.

If it’s not already outlined in green, tap the hours box and then turn the Digital Crown to set the alarm hour.

Tap the minutes box and then turn the Digital Crown to set the alarm minutes.

If you have a 24-hour clock, you can skip this step. If not, tap AM or PM to set the time of day.

Tap the check mark at the bottom of the screen.

And that’s it! You can always toggle Apple Watch alarms on or off in the Alarm app main screen, as well. For more help, check out our guide on troubleshooting iPhone vibration issues. Next, learn how to set a timer on your Apple Watch or how to make your watch vibrate for calls and texts.

The Apple Watch is one of the best smartwatches on the market. It has a powerful motor that provides an excellent vibration when you interact with it. Many individuals now dislike it and prefer that the watch vibrates just when they receive notifications. If you’re one of these folks who want to make sure that your watch only vibrates when it receives a notification, this tutorial is for you, and I’ll show you how to do it. Let’s get this party started.

How Do I Manage My Apple Watch’s Haptic Feedback?

When you interact with the Apple Watch, the system replies with haptic feedback, which is essentially a notification that the system has received and responded to your contact. Many people dislike it now, and Apple lets you adjust the haptic feedback by turning it off. I’ll show you how to control haptic feedback on your Apple Watch in the following sections.

How can I disable the Digital Crown’s haptic feedback?

When you interact with the Digital Crown, the motor provides haptic feedback, which you can turn off in the settings if you don’t want it. It’s worth noting that this function is only available on Apple Watch Series 4 and subsequent models. Here’s how to disable haptic feedback.

    • Take a look at your Apple Watch.
    • Go to the Settings App now.
    • Tap the Sounds & Haptic area when you’ve found it.
    • Toggle the Haptic Crown to the off position to disable Haptic Feedback.
    • That’s all there is to it.

How Can I Make My Apple Watch Only Vibrate When I Get Notifications?

Apple has a solution if you don’t want your Apple Watch to ring for notifications and instead want it to vibrate. Silent Mode is a feature on the Apple Watch that turns off the sound and only offers haptic feedback for notifications. Your apple watch will only vibrate when it receives a notification once Silent Mode is set. Here’s how to go about it.

    • Take a look at your Apple Watch.
    • Now place your hand on the bottom of the watch face and hold it there. Hold the button down until the Control Center appears.
    • Lookup for the bell icon by swiping up.
    • Now press the bell icon (Silent Mode Button) to activate Silent Mode.
    • That’s all there is to it.

How can I manage the notifications I receive on my Apple Watch?

You can use your Apple Watch to control the apps that can send you notifications on your screen. You can decide which apps are allowed to show notifications on your Apple Watch through the settings, as well as the tone for each notification. If you want more control over the notifications you receive on your Apple Watch, go to the settings. Here’s how to manage the notifications you receive on your Apple Watch.

    • Open your iPhone and navigate to the Watch App.
    • Navigate to the My Watch area of the Watch App.
    • Now go to the Notifications area and press on it.
    • The list of all apps installed on your Apple Watch can be found here.
    • Now choose the watch for which you wish to manage the notifications.
    • Select Custom from the options menu after tapping the App.
    • Now select “notifications off” from the drop-down menu.
    • That’s all there is to it.
    • You may use the procedures above to adjust the notifications for all of your Apple Watch apps.

Is it possible to disable notifications in the “Do Not Disturb” mode?

Yes, when Do Not Disturb Mode is engaged on your Apple Watch, all calls and notifications will be blocked from appearing on the display. Only the Alarms will sound, and you can turn them off in the settings. Here’s how to activate Do Not Disturb Mode on your Apple Watch.

    • Take a look at your Apple Watch.
    • Now place your hand on the bottom of the watch face and hold it there. Hold the button down until the Control Center appears.
    • Select the further option from the Do Not Disturb Button, which allows you to turn it on for 1 hour, until evening, or indefinitely.
    • That’s all there is to it.

How can I make my Apple Watch’s haptic alerts more powerful?

The vibration motor in the Apple Watch is rather powerful, and it should suffice for most people. However, there is a way to increase the strength of haptic notifications from the settings. Here’s how to go about it.

    • Take a look at your Apple Watch.
    • Activate the Settings App.
    • Now proceed to the Sounds & Haptics section.
    • Make sure the toggle for Haptic Alerts is set to green.
    • Next, select Prominent from the drop-down menu.
    • That’s all there is to it.

When I get a message, why doesn’t my Apple Watch vibrate?

It could be for a variety of reasons that your Apple Watch does not vibrate when you receive a message. Simply restart your watch and see whether the problem persists in resolving this issue. If the problem persists, the haptic strength on your watch may have been reduced. Make sure the slider for Haptic Strength is all the way up in the settings App> noises & Haptics > Haptic Strength.

My Apple Watch only vibrates when I receive notifications.

Silent Mode is enabled on your Apple Watch if it only vibrates when you get alerts. Turn off Silent Mode by going to the Control Center on your watch.

On my Apple Watch, how can I turn off notifications from a specific App?

You may disable notifications from a specific app on your Apple Watch by going to the settings menu. On your iPhone, go to the Apple Watch App > My Watch Section > Notifications > choose the app you wish to disable and choose “Notifications off.”

If your Apple Watch isn’t notifying you when you receive a text message, you may miss out on important notifications. While the problem can be intensely frustrating, it doesn’t have to be a permanent issue. Whether it’s a matter of a communication issue with your iPhone or something as straightforward as an incorrect setting, there are ways of fixing the problem. Here’s how to fix it when your Apple Watch isn’t vibrating for texts anymore.

Why Isn’t My Apple Watch Notifying Me When I Get a Text?

One of the most useful features of owning an Apple Watch is the fact it sends notifications including text/SMS messages to your wrist. If the function isn’t working, it can feel like you have half the watch you had before. Here’s a look at reasons why your Apple Watch might not be notifying you when you get a text.

    • The connection has dropped. Your iPhone and Apple Watch use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to communicate with each other. If the connection drops or falters, you won’t receive texts correctly.
    • Airplane Mode is active. If Airplane Mode is activated on your iPhone, the Wi-Fi connection is dropped which means the two devices can’t connect and share information.
    • Do Not Disturb is switched on. If Do Not Disturb is turned on, your Apple Watch won’t vibrate when you receive text messages or other notifications.
    • Your software is outdated. If you haven’t updated your Apple Watch or iPhone in a while, the connection may fail. Keep both devices updated to the latest software for the best compatibility.
    • You have notifications switched off. It’s possible to switch off notifications to your Apple Watch which means the device will no longer notify you when you get a text.
    • Cover to Mute is switched on. Cover to Mute silences incoming alerts or notifications meaning your Apple Watch won’t vibrate when you receive a message.

How Do I Make My Apple Watch Vibrate For Text Notifications?

If you’ve figured out your Apple Watch isn’t vibrating for text notifications, there are simple ways you can fix the problem. Here are some methods to try in order of what works most effectively.

Check your connection. Check your Apple Watch and iPhone are correctly connected and working properly. If needed, resync your Apple Watch to correct the issue.

Check you’re wearing your Apple Watch correctly. Your Apple Watch only receives notifications when you’re wearing it.

Check you’re wearing it carefully on your wrist so the sensor detects you correctly. Switch off Wrist Detection to confirm this by going to the Apple Watch App > Passcode > Wrist Detection.

Switch off Airplane Mode. If your iPhone is in Airplane Mode, it can’t communicate via Wi-Fi, which means it’s unable to communicate effectively with your Apple Watch. Switch the mode off to restore the connection.

Switch off Do Not Disturb Mode. When Do Not Disturb mode is switched on, you won’t receive notifications until you switch it back off. Check the Apple Watch’s Control Center to confirm both this and Airplane Mode are switched off.

Disable Cover to Mute. Check that Cover to Mute isn’t switched on by going to your Apple Watch app > My Watch > Sounds & Haptics > Cover to Mute.

Check mirrored notifications are switched on. Go to Apple Watch app > My Watch > Notifications > Phone > Mirror my iPhone to check mirrored notifications are switched on.

Restart your devices. Restart your Apple Watch and iPhone. This fixes many common connection issues.

Update your software. Update both your Apple Watch and iPhone to the latest software to fix any bugs which may occur between the two devices.

Reset your iPhone network settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings to reset your iPhone network settings, and then restart the phone. Sometimes, this can fix many connection issues.

If your iPhone is locked, notifications and vibrations come through only on your unlocked Apple Watch; you can only receive alerts from one or the other. If your iPhone is unlocked, your phone might be on silent mode with vibration disabled. To make your iPhone vibrate, go to Settings > Sound & Haptics > Vibrate on Silent.

You could have Do Not Disturb or Airplane Mode enabled. Swipe up or touch and hold the bottom of the display to look for a highlighted moon or airplane icon in the Apple Watch Control Center. Also, check that haptics are on; go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics on your watch and Phone > Ringtone > Haptic on the Apple Watch app for iPhone.

  • I guess the primary reason for vibrate is when the device is on silent in someone’s pocket.

You can’t do that with an iPad which is probably the main reason they didn’t include it.

  • Is your Mac a laptop or desktop? I have never heard of either have vibration feature. Where on those setups would they even be? On the keyboard and trackpad for laptops? For desktop computers, I suppose you could get a keyboard and mouse that vibrate, but I’d like to think I would’ve heard of this by now.

With tablets, it’s different b/c they run similar mobile apps as the phones (whose software will typically have vibration), and people interact with tablets by having their hands holding them, so vibration will be more prominently sensed there.

Want to set up a silent alarm clock on your Apple Watch? How’d you like to be tapped on your wrist to wake up? The Apple Watch can go beyond the iPhone silent vibration alarm feature and actually tap you on the wrist as a wake-up instead, and it’s a pretty neat feature for obvious reasons.

Your Apple Watch has tons of different uses whether you’re using it to stay on track with your health goals or just want to make sure you don’t miss a notification on your iPhone. But it’s the simplest of uses that people often overlook, including using it as an alarm clock. It’s really good at waking you up. And you can make it happen silently, too.

Nobody likes to be woken up by a blaring alarm, especially when you don’t need to actually wake up, or your partner doesn’t need to wake up. It’s a problem that partners have faced for as long as we’ve had alarm clocks and the Apple Watch does a wonderful job of fixing that by waking you up silently. The watch taps your wrist to wake you and your partner need never know it’s happening.

We’ve already shown you how to set an alarm that will wake you on Apple Watch – and everyone unfortunate enough to be near you – but there’s a subtle difference for anyone who wants to be woken silently. We won’t be covering the basics again – including how to snooze your alarm! – so be sure to start over there if you’re new to the Apple Watch.

With that said, and with your alarm all set and your PJs on, here’s how to make sure that your alarm won’t wake the dead.

How to Set a Silent Tap Alarm on Apple Watch

    1. Swipe up from the bottom of your Apple Watch’s screen when the watch face is being shown.
    2. Tap the bell icon to place your Apple Watch into Silent Mode.

That’s everything you need to do!

With Silent Mode enabled you’ll also notice that inbound notifications are also silent with your Apple Watch tapping your wrist instead of blaring sounds at everyone. That’s obviously a good thing if you’re asleep – although you should probably have Do Not Disturb enabled overnight, too.

It’s also important to note the difference between Do Not Disturb and Silent Mode.

With Silent Mode, inbound notifications will be delivered silently but with a tap on the wrist for the latter.

But Do Not Disturb prevents any form of aural or physical notification, although they will still be available in Notification Center when you wake.

Do Not Disturb is also available on your Mac as well as iPhone and iPad, too, and it’s a very handy feature for trying to get some peace and quiet, maintain focus while working, or just to tune out to the world for a while.

Do you use the Apple Watch silent alarm? Perhaps you will now! Do you have any other handy tips or advice about using Apple Watch as an alarm clock? Let us know any of your thoughts or experiences in the comments.
