How to post 360 degree photos to facebook

If you’ve ever scrolled through your Facebook feed and noticed that someone posted a 360-degree photo, they probably didn’t use a special 360 camera, but rather just their phone. Here’s how you can take your own 360 photos with your smartphone and post them to Facebook for all to enjoy.

There are several different ways you can take 360-degree photos. You can use a specialized 360 camera that will take one single photo using an array of multiple cameras (like the Samsung Gear 360), or you can just use your smartphone and take a bunch of different photos that get stitched together to create a 360 picture. If you’re using your smartphone, there are a handful of apps that allow you to do this. Google Street View is one of the most popular, and it’s available for both iOS and Android devices.

So, let’s look at how to take a 360 photo with Street View and post it to Facebook.

Capture a 360 Photo

Once you have the Google Street View app downloaded to your phone, open it up and tap the camera button in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

You’ll now begin to create your 360-degree photo. Start by lining up the white circle with the orange circle. When you do this, it will automatically take a photo. From there, move your phone around to take more photos, lining up with the orange circles as you go.

When you’re done capturing the scene, hit the check mark button at the bottom. Keep in mind that you don’t have to create a full 360-degree photo—it can be a simple panorama if you want.

Sharing regular photos with your Facebook friends is a thing of the past — the future revolves around interactive pics.

By now, you’ve undoubtedly come across an interactive photo whilst browsing your Facebook feed. Such photos instruct you to hold your phone up and move it around to view different parts of the photo.

It’s a fun way of viewing so-called 360-degree photos. And would make one believe you need fancy, or expensive equipment to make it happen. The truth is, however, you don’t need a special camera or even a 360-degree photo app in order to upload your own interactive picture.

Dedicated camera need not apply

But should you want to jump aboard the 360-degree camera movement, there is a list of cameras Facebook officially supports:

Each one of these cameras can capture your entire surroundings in a single shot, but come at a steep cost in most instances.

Your phone is the better choice

Chances are you own a phone or tablet that will work with the new Facebook feature. According to Facebook, anything newer than an iPhone 4S, iPad Mini 2 ($200 at Back Market) or either iPad Air and iPad Pro model will work. Facebook doesn’t list a series of Android devices (let’s be honest, that list would be far too long), but does specifically state using a Galaxy device newer than Samsung Galaxy S5 ($95 at Back Market) or Galaxy Note 3 ($198 at Amazon) will work.

Owners of a non-Samsung Android device can use the Google Camera app.

The not-so-new method

Naturally, not just any ol’ photo will work with Facebook’s 360-degree viewer, so what’s the secret?

You need to use the camera app on your device to take a panorama photo. That’s it. You probably have a couple in your camera roll right now, just waiting to be uploaded and shared with the Facebook world.

Or you can go one step further and use the Google Street View (Android | iOS) app to take a true 360-degree photo sphere and upload it.

There is one thing to keep in mind when taking a panorama to upload: Facebook states this feature will only work with photos that are 100 degrees or bigger. Unfortunately there’s no easy way to see just how big a photo is (in terms of degrees, at least), so if you don’t want to capture the full landscape, you’ll need to do some trial-and-error to get a better idea of the correct size.

Uploading

Uploading a panorama photo to Facebook is done using the same method to upload all your other photos: Open Facebook, tap Photo, select a picture, post. Also, you can’t upload more than one panorama photo at a time.

If, after uploading the photo, you want to change the starting view, you can do so by editing the photo on a computer. Click on the wireframe circle icon, then the paintbrush. Drag the photo to where you want the starting view to be, then click save.

You can also revert a 360-degree photo back to a panorama photo if you’d prefer. Again, click on the wireframe followed by the paintbrush, then uncheck the box next to Display this as a 360 photo and click Save. If you run into any issues, Facebook has a support page for 360-degree photos.

It has been known for quite some time that Facebook started rolling out their support for 36-degree photos. Joining in on the fun is quite simple, so long as you have a capable smartphone and the right mobile application for it. Then, you can take and upload these immersive, spherical still images to let your Facebook friends get a glimpse in practically any direction rather than just looking at a flat, 2D image of a particular scene.

How to Take a 360-Degree Photo and Upload it to Facebook

Before you attempt in shooting your own 360-degree photos, you can check some of these images on Facebook. To do this, just type in 360 photos in the search bar in the social media portal and you should be able to find a whole lot of these images to marvel and even play around with. The feature is still relatively new (at the time of writing), but there are already many who have joined in on the hype. When on any 360 photo, just click on the image and drag it with your mouse to look around a bit. If you’re on your smartphone or mobile device, just tap and move your gadget around.

Now let’s get on with taking a 360 photo for Facebook; one of the more convenient options to do this is to go to Google’s official Street View camera application. This app can be downloaded for both Android and iOS devices, and it’s also free to download and install. It also works seamlessly with the social media’s new feature so you can take a 360-degree photograph of the street or practically anything else.

Once the Google Street View app is on your mobile device, you can then tap the Plus icon found on the front of the screen then a new menu should pop up. Tap on Camera then Open Camera. If it’s the first time opening the camera feature on the app, it will guide you through the process of capturing all the 360-degree photos you need. You just need to make sure that you’re capturing photos as still as possible while you’re moving around (just like taking a panorama photo).

Once the 360 photo has been taken and saved into your device, uploading it to Facebook is no different than posting a photo into the social networking portal. In the social media app, just tap on the Photo button in the status update box, select the image you want to upload, wait for it to finish and it’s done.

If you are one of those 1 million people, who use Facebook on a daily basis, you might have seen the 360 photos that some people share on Facebook.

While there are special cameras for taking 360-degree photos and videos, Facebook has actually made it easier for anyone to share 360 photos on Facebook, and you don’t need a special camera for that, your smartphone camera is capable of doing that.

All you need is the official Facebook app,

How to post 360 degree photos to facebook

Sharing a screenshot showing where you can find the option to post 360 photos on Facebook, but since Facebook keeps experimenting with their user interface I can’t guarantee how long this UI will be there, so I’ll just briefly tell you about where you can find the option.

So when you open the Facebook app, you have a text input field, it’s preoccupied with a phrase, “write something here…”, you need to ta on that

Once You tap on it, you will find all the tools available for posting a status message, scroll down to find more features, and at the bottom, you will find 360 photo feature.

When you tap on it, your camera will open, and you can take that 360-degree photo by revolving the camera around you, and not moving the camera up and down.

What Facebook actually does is, it takes a panoramic photo and stitches using its software to make it look like a 360-degree photo.

The processing requires a bit of time than usual,, but it’s not too long, maybe 5 seconds extra.

Tne thing to keep in mind while posting 360-degree photos, when you will be making a revolution, if there are any moving objects that come into your photos frame, then it might look like something you see Google Street View where you see half cars or half human, because they were moving when the photo was being taken.

So, for taking perfect 360-degree photos for Facebook, choose a place where there is less movement around you, that way the photos tend to look great.

So this is how you take 360-degree photos Facebook.

And yes, this feature is also available for pages as well.

BTW, the 360 Degree content feels more immersive in the VR boxes, and you can buy them for cheap, here is a good post about it.

If you haven’t yet clicked and uploaded a 360- degree photo on Facebook, you should do it now. The social network launched this feature some time back. The 360-degree photo allows users to see a picture from all angles – top, down, front and back.

How to post 360 degree photos to facebook

You can create a 360-degree photo using a special 360 camera or by taking a panorama on your iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Few mobile apps such as Street View and Google Camera are also helpful to create a 360- degree photo on an Android device.

If you’ve already taken the photo using the tools I mentioned, you can easily post and share it with your Facebook audience.

While all of us may have come across a 360-degree photo at some point or the other, not all of us have tried posting one. If you’ve taken the photo using any of the above mentioned tools, the process of posting the photo on Facebook would be similar to uploading a regular photo. Here is how you can do this:

Posting 360-Degree photo on the web:

      • Click the Photo/Video tab at the top of the News Feed section or on your Timeline
      • Select a photo to be posted
      • Share it with your desired audience
      • Click and drag to view the photo

      Posting 360-Degree Photo On Smartphone:

      • Tap on the What’s on your mind?
      • Select the Photo/Video option and choose a photo
      • Share it with your Facebook audience
      • Tilt and move your phone or drag your finger to view the photo
      • Tap on the photo to see it in full screen

As of now, you are just allowed to post only one 360-degree photo on Facebook. This is not applicable to profile pictures.

You’ve most likely come across an interactive photo whilst browsing your Facebook feed. Such photos instruct you to hold your phone up and move it around to view different parts of the photo.

With this, users can view a scene from all angles – top, down, front and back. Good news is you don’t need a special camera or even a 360-degree photo app in order to upload your own interactive picture.

According to Facebook, anything newer than an iPhone 4S, iPad Mini 2 or either iPad Air and iPad Pro model will work. Facebook doesn’t list a series of Android devices (let’s be honest, that list would be far too long), but does specifically state using a Galaxy device newer than Samsung Galaxy S5 or Galaxy Note 3 will work.

Owners of a non-Samsung Android device can use the Google Camera app.

Here’s a quick guide on how to post a 360 photo on Facebook:

      • Tap on the What’s on your mind? box at the top of the News Feed section or on your Timeline
      • Select the Photo/Video option and choose a photo
      • Share it with your desired audience
      • Tilt and move your phone or drag your finger to view the photo
      • You can also tap on the photo to view it in full screen

      Extra Tips

You need to use the camera app on your device to take a panorama photo. That’s it. You probably have a couple in your camera roll right now, just waiting to be uploaded and shared with the Facebook world.

Or you can go one step further and use the Google Street View (Android | iOS) app to take a true 360-degree photo sphere and upload it.

360-degree photos are different from the 360-videos posted on Facebook. Such videos are created using a special set of cameras to capture a scene in its entirety.
