Apple Pay is easy and works with the Apple devices you use every day. You can make contactless, secure purchases in stores, in apps, and on the web. And you can send and receive money from friends and family right in Messages. Apple Pay is a safer way to pay, and even simpler than using your physical card.

within apps.

Use Apple Pay on the App Store to buy apps and games, or within apps to pay for a ride, a pizza delivery, or a new pair of sneakers — with just a touch or a glance. You can also use Apple Pay for a subscription to Apple Music, Apple News+, and Apple Arcade. Or for upgraded iCloud storage and other Apple services.

The easiest way to pay on the web.

When you’re making purchases on the web in Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you can use Apple Pay without having to create an account or fill out lengthy forms. And with Touch ID on MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, paying takes just a touch and is quicker, easier, and more secure than ever before.

You can also transfer your Apple Cash balance to your bank account.

The easiest way to get around town.

Apple Pay already makes riding trains and buses simple in cities like Chicago, New York, Portland, Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, and London. You’ll breeze through the turnstiles just by holding your iPhone or Apple Watch up to the reader.

Privacy and security. With each and every payment.

The safer way to pay.

When you make a purchase, Apple Pay uses a device-specific number and unique transaction code. So your card number is never stored on your device or on Apple servers, and when you pay, your card numbers are never shared by Apple with merchants.

Keep your purchases private.

When you pay with a debit or credit card, Apple Pay doesn’t keep transaction information that can be tied back to you. And when you use Apple Cash, information is stored only for troubleshooting, fraud prevention, and regulatory purposes.

Find it all in Wallet.

Apple Cash and your credit and debit cards are in the Wallet app along with boarding passes, tickets, rewards cards, and more. You can also add your student ID card to Apple Wallet to access places like your dorm and the library, or to pay for things like laundry and snacks on campus. Apple Pay works with most credit and debit cards from nearly all U.S. banks. Just add your participating cards to Wallet and you’ll continue to get all the rewards and benefits of your cards.

How to see which merchants accept apple pay

If you’ve ever run out of the house with your iPhone, but left your wallet or purse behind, you know how annoying it is to turn around and go back to get it. If you use Apple Pay, you don’t have to.

The problem then is, how do you know who accepts Apple Pay? If you’re just out to get a quick bite to eat or some groceries, you don’t want to go from place to place asking them if they accept Apple Pay, so there has to be a better way, and luckily there is.

With a simple search in Apple Maps, you can see exactly who accepts Apple Pay, letting you instantly narrow down your options.

Using your iPhone, open the Maps app and look up the location you want to visit. For example, let’s say we’ve got a hankering for some doughnuts. One nearby option is Dunkin Donuts, which we pull up on our Maps application, then we tap on that location to view its details.

How to see which merchants accept apple pay

By viewing the location’s details, we can see stuff like its phone number, address, and more importantly, if it accepts Apple Pay. If it does, it will display the logo.

How to see which merchants accept apple pay

You could go through Maps this way, tapping every location that interests you and see if the logo is there, but perhaps an easier way is to simply search in Apple Maps with the term “Apple Pay”. This then will display various locations throughout your area that accept it.

How to see which merchants accept apple pay

Searching for Apple Pay locations this way might not be that thorough, however. You could also elect to use a free app called Pay Finders.

When you first open Pay Finders, you might be overwhelmed a bit by all the locations it shows that do accept Apple Pay.

How to see which merchants accept apple pay

If you tap on any icon on the map, it will tell you what it is and where, but this is akin to searching for a needle in the proverbial haystack.

How to see which merchants accept apple pay

To make searching easier, you can tap the second icon in the middle on the top menu bar, and then tap the funnel icon to narrow down your choices, where we can search for stuff, such as by category.

How to see which merchants accept apple payIn order to use the advanced filtering features, you’ll have to sign up for a Pay Finders account, which takes a few seconds in the app.

Here we’ve found a grocery store that accept Apple Pay. In addition to showing us where it is, we can then map it, and we can rate our experience using Apple Pay there and make comments, among other things.

How to see which merchants accept apple pay

You can use Pay Finders to search for businesses directly (using the search feature) or filter them by name, distance, icon, newest, and as we mentioned, category.

Whether you use the Pay Finders app or elect to go the Maps route, at least you know you have options should you find yourself out and about without your wallet. Of course, if you get pulled over without your drivers license on you, your iPhone isn’t going to be able to save you from a ticket, but at least you can console yourself with some coffee and doughnuts afterward.

Apple Pay gives your customers an easy, secure, and private way to pay in stores, within apps, on the web, and in Business Chat.

Accepting Apple Pay is faster than accepting traditional credit and debit cards and other payment methods. Customers don’t need to spend time searching for their wallet to find the right card. Within apps or websites when using Safari, your customers can check out with a single touch. 1

Accepting Apple Pay is also more secure than accepting traditional credit, debit, and prepaid cards. Every transaction on your customer’s iPhone or iPad requires Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode. And each time your customer takes their Apple Watch off their wrist, the passcode must be entered to access it. When customers pay using Apple Pay, you don’t receive or handle their actual credit card, debit card, or bank account numbers in your systems.

Let customers know that they can pay using Apple Pay

  1. Display the payment symbols for your region and the Apple Pay mark prominently on your point-of-sale terminal to let your customers know they can use Apple Pay in your store.
  2. Download the Apple Pay mark to use within email, on your terminal screen, and on your website.
  3. Add Apple Pay to your Maps listing.
  4. Order Apple Pay decals to put on your storefront window and register. 2
  5. Go to Apple Pay for developers to learn how to let your customers know they can use Apple Pay within your app or website.

How to accept Apple Pay in your store

Depending on your country or region, Apple Pay works with most card issuers and payment providers, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, China UnionPay, and more. 3

To accept Apple Pay in your store, you need to have a contactless payment–capable point-of-sale terminal. In Japan, terminals should support iD, QUICPay, PASMO, or Suica. Contact your payment provider so they can set up your terminal, and tell them you would like to accept Apple Pay.

Apple Cash transactions are processed like standard Apple Pay transactions. 4 If you already accept Discover debit contactless transactions today, you should be able to accept Apple Cash without any changes. If you’re not already accepting Discover debit contactless payments, contact your payment provider to make sure that your point-of-sale setup can accept Apple Pay, is configured with the most recent kernel and firmware versions, and can support the proper BIN ranges.

Do customers need to sign a receipt or enter a PIN?

If your customer’s transaction exceeds a certain amount when they pay in stores with Apple Pay in some countries and regions, they might need to enter their PIN. In some cases, they might need to sign a receipt or use a different payment method. 5

Apple Cash doesn’t require a PIN as every payment is authenticated by Face ID, Touch ID, or a secure passcode. Some terminals may still request a PIN to complete any debit transaction. If prompted, advise customers to enter a four-digit code, like 0000.

Apple Pay transaction limits for customers

Apple Pay allows your customers to make easy and secure contactless payments of any amount. Read about transaction limits.

How to process returns with Apple Pay

Use the Device Account Number to find the purchase and process the return, just like you would with a traditional credit, debit, or prepaid card payment. In Japan, you can also use the transaction ID on the receipt to find the purchase and process the return.

To see the last four digits of the Device Account Number, ask the customer to open the Wallet app, tap the card, and tap the more button on the upper-right corner of the display.

The customer can also hold their iPhone or Apple Watch near the reader, select the card that they used to make the original payment, and authorize the return with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode.

Can I accept Apple Pay if my point-of-sale terminal is already NFC/FeliCa/contactless payment-capable?

If you accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, China UnionPay, and other contactless payments today, you’re likely able to accept Apple Pay for those networks without any changes.

If you’re not already accepting contactless payments, contact your payment provider to make sure that your point-of-sale setup can accept Apple Pay. Then, ask them to enable it. To learn more, see our Apple Pay merchant checklist.

Are there additional fees to accept Apple Pay?

No. Apple doesn’t charge any additional fees.

When Apple Pay payments are charged as card present or card not present

Payments made using Apple Pay in stores are card present transactions. Payments made using Apple Pay within apps or on the web are card not present transactions.

Will I be liable for fraud on Apple Pay transactions?

In stores, Apple Pay transactions are treated in the same way as your current credit, debit, or prepaid card transactions. You’ll have the same liability rules applied to Apple Pay transactions.

Within apps and on the web, Apple Pay transactions might be treated more favorably than standard transactions with a plastic card. Liability for transactions might shift to the issuer. Contact your payment provider to learn how you can benefit from liability shift for Apple Pay payments within your app and website.

In Japan, how do customers know if they’re paying with iD or QUICPay?

In Japan, Apple Pay transactions are done with iD, QUICPay, PASMO, or Suica. When customers add their credit or prepaid card to Apple Pay, it’s assigned as either QUICPay or iD. They can go to the Wallet app, tap the card, and look for the logo to identify if it has been assigned as QUICPay or iD. If a customer requests to pay with Apple Pay, ask them if they use QUICPay, iD, PASMO, or Suica. Process the payment as you typically would for a plastic contactless card.
