Khabib Nurmagomedov returns to the Octagon following 11 months out of action because of a ban he sustained after his dominant UFC 229 victory over Conor McGregor.
Dustin Poirier, who beat Max Holloway in his last outing, represents a tough challenge for the undefeated Nurmagomedov, however.
The fight will be contested for Nurmagomedov’s UFC lightweight world title, which he won in full against McGregor last year.
The fight will take place in a 13,000-seater purpose-built arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

Good afternoon and welcome to The Independent’s coverage of UFC 242, with the feature bout Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Dustin Poirier, live from Abu Dhabi.
Khabib goes into the fight as the clear favourite, having only ever lost one round in his entire career.
UFC 242 event is going to be held overseas in Abu-Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and it will feature the Lightweight championship bout between the undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and an interim champ Dustin Poirier.
Below, you’ll find out information on where you can watch UFC 242 fights and what time will be the main event of the evening Khabib vs Poirier bout.
How to watch UFC 242 event?
The answer to this question will depend on where you live and whether you want to watch an event through an official UFC channel or going to try to stream UFC 242 online for free.
Not long ago UFC made a bunch of new deals with media broadcasts worldwide. In the US, UFC got a broadcasting deal with ESPN, in the UK and Ireland – with BT Sport (cost of the UFC 242 PPV in the UK is 19.95 pounds). Unlike before, you cannot buy UFC PPV’s through other channels such as your cable provider or UFC.tv.
If you want to watch Khabib vs Poirier fight in the United States, you have to:
a) pay for ESPN+ subscription;
b) purchase Pay-Per-View through ESPN+.
It might sound like a very complicated and expensive task but it actually is a pretty simple process and not a bad deal. I personally signed up for the ESPN+ since they announced this new deal with the UFC and I can tell you that I’m more than happy with what I get for the money paid.
If you are already subscribed for ESPN+, you probably already know what to do and how this PPV system works. It will cost you $59.99 to buy UFC 242 PPV/to watch Khabib vs Poirier if you are already a ESPN+ customer.
If you are new to ESPN+, you can get a special deal – a 1-year annual subscription to ESPN+ and PPV for UFC 242 event for $79.98. It’s a good deal because ESPN+ subscription by itself normally cost $49.99.
With the ESPN+, you’ll be able to watch all upcoming UFC events – complete “Fight Night” cards (for example, Cowboy vs Gaethje event a week after UFC 242) and prelims for the “numbered” tournaments. Besides live events, ESPN+ also offers a collection of on-demand UFC content such as greatest/most famous fights, memorable moments and etc.
A cool thing is that with the ESPN you can watch PPV fights pretty much on any device. You can set it up on a laptop via ESPN.com, smartphone, tablet, Apple TV, Xbox One or PlayStation 4 through an app.
Khabib vs Poirier free stream online
If you feel like it’s not worth the buck to subscribe for the official broadcast and watch UFC’s tournament in Abu-Dhabi comfortably in good quality, there is an option to find a free UFC 242 stream on the internet.
Just a heads up: even if you find a link that works, it will most likely be in very bad quality, there will be lots of ads, and it might all of a sudden stop working at any point. Honestly, I used to always watch UFC by streaming it online for free but there was a point when I just got sick of dealing with these free streams, having to constantly refresh the page, missing half of the fights and not being able to actually enjoy watching the sport.
To watch Khabib vs Poirier fight for free, you might have an option to find an online live stream of the Russian TV “Channel One”. The main event of the evening is going to be shown in Russia for free on the national TV and it shouldn’t be too hard to find this stream.
A few working “Channel One” streams will be posted here prior to the start of the event. If you will be in search for one, make sure to bookmark this page and comeback again on September 7th.

How To Watch UFC 242 Internationally
Unfortunately, services like ESPN+ are only available to US customers. However, there is good news and that news is VPNs or Virtual Private Networks.
A VPN allows you to “mask” your IP address and trick the streaming service into believing you are in another location. This means that if you live in San Francisco but want to watch a team from New York or Kansas City, you can just set your VPN to that location and you will get the channels in that local market. This even works for international customers who want to see US TV and sports.
You may be thinking to yourself, “I don’t know, this sounds complicated.” But do not worry, VPNs sound complicated, but they are actually very easy to install and operate. Most VPNs only require just a few clicks to operate and you will never deal with a blackout ever again.
Our top-rated VPN is ExpressVPN. ExpressVPN is a fast, reliable, and inexpensive option to pair with your favorite streaming service. Plans begin as low as $8.32/month. You can try ExpressVPN free for 30-days.
Please Note: Using a VPN may be against your streaming service’s user agreement and you should proceed with caution.
Illegal Streams of UFC Fights
It is our policy to never recommend any illegal streams of UFC fights or anything else. Most illegal “free” streams put you at considerable risk to acquire viruses and dangerous malware. These streams are untrustworthy, blurry, low-quality, and quite frankly just flat out garbage. It is not worth the risk by any means just to save a few bucks.
Let's think back to the past year: Khabib Nurmagomedov wiped out Conor McGregor, literally literally "notorious", and became everyone's feared UFC fighter. Now he's back to defend his UFC lightweight champion belt. In other words, canceling all your weekend projects and watching a UFC 242 live stream should be your only goal.
UFC 242 – Where and when?
UFC 242 kicks off this Saturday, September 7 at The Arena in Abu Dhabi.
You can log in to view preview coverage at 10 AM ET, 7 AM PT, and 3:15 PM BST. The UFC 242 main map will begin around 2:00 PM, 11:00 AM Pacific Time and 7:00 PM Paris Time.
In the United States, ESPN + is your place of observation and we have more details below.
With 27 wins, 0 losses and one of the most controversial fights in UFC history under his belt (lightweight), Khabib would need a pretty brave fighter to take on his title: enter American Dustin Poirier.
Poirier may not have Khabib's impressive track record, but after leaving Max Holloway in the dust in April, he proved he was the best to face Khabib. Especially since he holds the interim UFC Lightweight title.
And it's not just the main fight that you have to be excited about. Watching a UFC 242 livestream means catching Edson Barboza against Paul Felder, a fight that really started in July 2015, when the two fighters met for the first time, with Barboza earning a unanimous victory. Now, Felder is back for the blood. And not to mention the "Tasmanian devil" Davi Ramos vs. Islam Makhachev, two well-matched fighters, probably sneak into the rounds in a fist for a marathon. In other words, UFC 242 looks like an event not to be missed.
Regardless of what weight class, fighter or style you're in for, we'll show you how to continuously stream the UFC 242 main map from anywhere in the world.

Live broadcast of UFC 242 from outside your country
Don't worry if you're a huge UFC fan but aren't in the country to watch UFC 242 when that happens. If you find that coverage is geoblocked, you can use a VPN to change your IP address in a country where the fights are broadcast and view this week's main map as if you were in your country.
Virtual private networks are also useful if you are concerned about secure transmission over the web, thanks to the encryption used to hide your information. And the best will not record your personal information either. We have tested hundreds of VPNs and can recommend them as the best VPN options currently available:
1. Express VPN (with a 30-day money-back guarantee) In simple terms, this is our pick as the # 1 VPN. 3 in the world today. You can watch on many devices at once, including smart TVs, Fire TVs, computers, Macs, Android phones, iPads, tablets, and more. Watch Express VPN and receive XNUMX months FREE on an annual plan.
2. NordVPN – SmartPlay technology makes NordVPN a great affordable option for streaming
3. IPVanish supports up to 10 devices, which is great for traveling

For MMA fans in the UK, the preliminary card just ended on a rather positive note!
Scotland’s Joanne Calderwood earned a massive win in the UFC women’s flyweight division, defeating America’s Andrea Lee by split decision.
It was a closely fought contest, but Jojo came out on top 28-29, 30-27, 29-28. That’s three wins from her last four fights.
Here we go! Tonight’s main card coverage is underway, sit back and enjoy as we bring you the latest updates from every fight.
First up is a lightweight bout between Mairbek Taisumov (27-5) and Carlos Diego Ferreira (15-2).
It is clearly sweltering in the arena tonight – Taisumov and Ferreira are warming up backstage and they’re already drenched in sweat.
That heat could play a big part in how tonight’s fights play out; draining energy, but also making fighters harder to hold onto when grappling, due to all the sweat.
Ring announcer and general icon Bruce Buffer does his thing and the fight is underway!
A lively first round, in which Ferreira did all of the pressing. Each man seemed to have the other wobbled at one point or another.
