Here are two ways to move your contacts from one Android to another.

How to transfer contacts from one Android to another Android

Using your Google account

The easiest way to transfer contacts is to use your Google account.

1. On your old Android, open the Settings app and tap Accounts.

2. Select the Google account that you intend to use on the new Android.

3. Tap Account sync or Sync account.

4. On the page that opens, make sure that Contacts is enabled. This will make sure that all of your phone’s contacts are saved to the Google account.

Now when you log into that Google account on your new Android phone, all of your contacts will transfer over.

Using a vCard

vCards — also known as .VCF files — are packets of data that are specially made to carry contact information. Nearly every phone can read them, which makes them perfect for moving your contacts.

1. On your old Android, open the Contacts app.

2. Tap the three dots in the top-right and tap Select all.

3. Tap the sharing icon, which looks like three dots with lines connecting them. Your contacts will be compiled into a single .VCF file.

5. On your new Android, download the .VCF file.

6. In your new Android’s files app — it might be called Files, Files by Google, or something similar — find and open the .VCF file.

7. You’ll be asked if you want to import the contacts. Tap Yes or OK.

How to transfer contacts to a new android phone

Android gives you a few options for transferring your contacts to a new device. By default, everything should be synced when you set up a new device, but even if sync is disabled, it’s easy to move your contacts over.

The Easy Way: Sync With Your Google Account

Almost all Android devices sold outside of China come with Google services, including the ability to synchronize your contacts between devices. This should be enabled by default when you sign in with your Google account, but here’s how to make sure. We’re writing this guide using a Pixel 2 XL running Android 9.0, but it should look similar on other Android devices. We’re also using the stock Google Contacts apps, which you can download from the Play Store. These steps may not be the same on other Contact apps, so if you’re having issues, we recommend using Google Contacts.

Start by opening the Settings app and tapping “Accounts.”

How to transfer contacts to a new android phone

Not long ago, contact information was stored on the mobile phone itself or the SIM card. Thus, when you changed your phone, you had to copy all the contacts to the SIM and insert that same SIM in the new phone.

The downside of this method is that you lose your contact details forever if you lose your SIM card. Today, luckily, you can save phone numbers in the cloud, which makes the process of transferring contacts and phone numbers from an old phone to a new one much easier and faster.

How to transfer all your contacts to a new Android Phone

Of course, the first thing to do is check if you have the cloud backup activated for all this to work. This will ensure that the synchronization of contacts is active.

  • Open the Android “Settings” menu.
  • Go to “Accounts” and click on your main Google account.
  • Enter “Synchronization”.
  • Verify that the “Contacts” tab is enabled. It also does not hurt to check that the last synchronization date is recent (this way, you will ensure that no contact is missing or excess).

How to Sync Contacts on Samsung Galaxy Phones

In some mobiles like Samsung Galaxy, you can enable this option from “Settings -> Accounts and backup -> Manage accounts”.

Select your main Gmail account, and from “Synchronize account,” verify that the synchronization of “Contacts” is active.

To finish, you will only have to configure your Gmail account on the new phone, and automatically all the mumbers will be transferred to the new phone. That easy!

If you already have a Google account set up on your phone, wait a few minutes for the contacts to sync or restart the device. Make sure you have an Internet connection available to update your contact list.

And what if I have two different Gmail accounts?

If you do not want (or cannot) use the same Gmail account on both devices, you will have to export the contacts in a VCF file.

  • Open the “Contacts” app on your old Android device.
  • Display the options menu that you will see in the upper right area of the screen.
  • Click on “Select all” and hit the “Share” button.
  • Android will generate a VCF file with all the contacts in your address book.
  • Share the file by Bluetooth, Google Drive, Gmail, or any other method you have available. The goal is to receive this file on your new phone. Note: Taking into account that in the new mobile, you are going to use a different email, a good option may be to send the file to the new email address.

And ready! When you have the VCF file on the new Android phone, just open it to load the contact list. On some mobiles, we can also open the “Contacts” app, and from the options, menu select “Manage contacts -> Import contacts.”

How to transfer contacts to a new android phone

India is the second largest smartphone market as of today, but feature phones still enjoy around half of the market share. Every year, a lot of consumers switch from feature phones to Smartphones, and due to the different nature of the two platforms, transferring data between the two can be a huge problem.

Especially since most PC Suits and Desktop link software for Nokia, Samsung, other phones don’t work very well these days.

If you are looking for easy ways to move contacts from your simple Keypad phones like Nokia, Samsung or other feature phones to an Android Smartphone, here is what you can try:

Editor’s Note: The steps we have mentioned are for Nokia phones, but the process for all other popular feature phones is similar, and you will be able to figure it out.

Copy contacts to SIM

If the number of contacts in your list is less than 250, you can depend on this method.

Step 1: Just go to Contact on your feature phone and tap on ‘Options’.

Step 2: Now, select ‘Move Contacts’ option (Copy contact option will duplicate contacts to your SIM).

Step 3: In the next ‘Move From’ menu, select phone and then select SIM when “Move To” menu pops up.

Step 4: Now to select contacts, select ‘Options’ and select “Choose all”

Step 5: And now select “Done” option. (on some phones, you will have to press ‘Back’ first).

That’s it. Once the transfer is complete, you can place the SIM in your new Android Phone and access all your contact.

If you have more than 250 contacts, do not use this method. Any Random 250 contacts will be copied to your SIM, and it will be tedious to establish an order moving forward.

Share using Bluetooth

Another way of transferring contacts is via Bluetooth. If you bought your feature phone in the last two years, there are good chances that you have Bluetooth.

Step 1: Open the Contacts app, select ‘Options’ and tap on ‘Share’

Step 2: Now, choose ‘Options from the next screen and select “Choose all”

Step 3: Turn on Bluetooth on your Android phone. Your Feature phone will show you the list of Bluetooth devices nearby ready to pair.

Step 4: Select your Android phone and the transfer will start when the two phones are paired.

Step 7: Now find the Import/Export contact option and choose VCF files from the phone storage.

How to transfer contacts to a new android phone

There are several phones (like OnePlus 6) that allow you to import multiple VCF files at once. In others, you will have to manually tap on VCards one by one. We tried manually tapping on Mi A1 and it took less than 10 minutes to save a list of 500+ contacts.

Combine VCF Filles into one file for easy installation

If you are a little tech savvy, you can also combine all VCF files into one VCF file and then install the single file. To do so, save all of the VCF files in one folder on your Windows PC.

Now open Command prompt, navigate to that particular folder (SmartprixBytes in the example below).

How to transfer contacts to a new android phone

With copy *.vcf all.vcf command, all VCF files will merge into one file named “All VCF” and you can import all contacts directly from it.

If you are familiar with command prompt, this should be the more convenient way in case your Android phone’s software doesn’t support importing multiple VCF files.

How to transfer contacts from Nokia, Samsung keypad feature phones to Android Phones

These are some of the methods you can use to transfer contacts from feature phone to Android smartphone. The second method, which involves sharing contacts via Bluetooth, may appear complicated but it’s quite simple in practice. You will have to make minor adjustments based on the software running on your Android phones.

There are several software tools for transferring contacts between feature phone and Android Phones but most of what we tried didn’t work.

Thank you very much.

Hi Deepak, thanks for this info. Is there a way I can move contacts from a new feature phone (Nokia 3310) to old s60 phone (Nokia E5)? I fail to find a way even though both have Bluetooth and symbian (s40 and s60). Thanks.

Thanks So much. Helped me in transferring my in laws contacts from her old Nokia 2302 phone to new android phone. God bless!

Hello Deepak
I bought my first smartphone (Motorola G& Power) and have installed a sim card. I have not made any payments for calls or data. Have not used the smartphone as I have not learned to use it (I am 80 years old). Yesterday I notice that there is a list of contacts and their email addresses and in some cases the phone numbers. Only some of my email contac addresses are displayed on the smartphone. I have not included phone numbers in the email address book, and yet phone numbers appear against some names. I have a basic Samsung phone that allows calls and text messages. It does not have internet capability. I have not made any effort to enter contacts on the smart phone. I am puzzled as to how the smartphone displays some of the contacts in my Thunderbird address book and include phone numbers for some addresses. Thank you.

Mr Deepak

You really made my day after spending about 2 days trying to find a way to move my contacts and all i got didn’t work or needed paid program to get this .
