In that case, you may try decreasing the size of the display by changing the display settings.

The following procedure works only for mobile PCs. If you’re using a desktop computer, you may be able to change an extended display to a mirrored display by using the software provided with your video card or display driver.

1. Open Windows Mobility Center by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Mobile PC, and then clicking Windows Mobility Center.
2. On the External Display tile, click Connect display.
3. On the New Display Detected dialog box, click Mirrored, and then click OK.
Most mobile PCs use FN+F5, FN+F7, or FN+F8 to cycle through the display modes. To determine which function keyboard shortcut you need to use, check the information that came with your mobile PC, or go to the manufacturer’s website.

By default, when you connect an external monitor to a laptop, the same image (mirror image) of your desktop appears on the external monitor. You may try to disconnect and connect the second monitor cable and check if the issue is resolved.

Miracast is a wireless display standard included in Windows 8.1, Android 4.2, and newer versions of these operating systems. With a Miracast receiver plugged into a TV or another display nearby, casting your screen should be easy.

This feature is also available on devices running Amazon’s Fire OS and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1 and newer. Bear in mind that Miracast is notoriously finicky and problematic.

Windows 8.1+

If your computer came with Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1, it should support Miracast. If you’ve upgraded an old PC to Windows 8.1, it may or may not support Miracast. You may have to get the latest drivers from Windows Update or your computer manufacturer’s website before you’ll see the “Add a wireless display” option below.

The below option also refused to show up until we uninstalled VirtualBox on our Surface Pro 2. Miracast depends on having a “clean” networking stack, so programs that interfere with the networking stack — VirtualBox, VMware, and similar applications — may need to be uninstalled before this option will appear.

To access the Miracast options, swipe in from the right or press Windows Key + C and select the Devices charm. Click or tap the “Project” option.

If you see an “Add a wireless display” option, your computer supports Miracast. To actually project to a Miracast device, tap or click the Add a wireless display option and select the device in the list. To disconnect from the wireless display, open the Devices charm, tap or click the Project option, and click the Disconnect button under the wireless display.

These options are also available in PC Setting. Click or tap the Change PC settings link at the bottom of the Settings charm to access it. Navigate to PC and devices > Devices. To scan for nearby Miracast receivers, tap Add a device. Miracast receivers you’ve added appear under Projectors on this screen.

Android 4.2+

Miracast is available on Android devices with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and newer versions of Android. Android devices do need the appropriate hardware, so your Android phone or tablet may not support Miracast — especially if it’s an old device that’s been updated to the latest versions of Android. We performed this process with a Nexus 4 running Android 4.4.4.

First, open your device’s settings screen — that’s the Settings app in your app drawer. Under the Device section, tap Display. Scroll down on the Display screen and tap Cast Screen. (You can also cast to Chromecast devices from here, although those don’t use the Miracast protocol.)

How to use miracast screen mirroring from windows or android

Tap the Menu button at the top of your screen and select Enable wireless display. Your phone will scan for nearby Miracast devices and display them in a list under Cast Screen. If your MIracast receiver is powered on and nearby, it should appear in the list.

Tap the device to connect and begin casting your screen. A notification will appear, providing a visible indication that you’re casting your screen. Pull down the notification shade at the top of your screen and tap the Disconnect button to stop casting your screen.

How to use miracast screen mirroring from windows or android

You can also cast from the Quick Settings screen if you’ve enabled the wireless display feature under Cast Screen. Pull down with two fingers from the top of your screen to open Quick Settings, tap the Cast Screen button, and you’ll see a list of nearby devices you can cast to. Tap one to start casting.

How to use miracast screen mirroring from windows or android

If your computer, smartphone, or tablet supports Miracast and you have a Miracast receiver nearby, it should be this easy. Miracast uses Wi-Fi Direct, so the devices don’t even have to be on the same network to communicate with each other. Issues with your home network or router shouldn’t even be a factor. This should simplify things, but Miracast-enabled devices often refuse to work together or have issues with playback glitches and dropped streams even after they connect.

In practice, Miracast is often clunky and buggy. You may need to check that your receiver officially and explicitly supports the exact device you’re trying to use to cast to it. This is something that shouldn’t be necessary with an open standard like Miracast, but something that does sadly seem to be necessary. For example, Roku’s website provides a list of devices that have been officially tested and certified to work with their Miracast implementation. Check your Miracast receivers’s documentation to check if your device is officially supported, or if it’s known to have problems with your specific receiver.

You can wirelessly project content on your NeoPix Prime 2 either with an Android or iOS device.

Screen mirroring for Android devices/Windows PC

Take your Android device or Windows PC and follow these steps:

  • You need to have an Android device which supports Miracast / Google Cast (or Screen Mirroring). The feature name can be also known as Screencast, Screen Sharing, WiFi Direct, and Wireless Display, etc. Not all Android devices have this feature. Refer to your device user manual for details
  • Enable WiFi both on the projector and your Android device (or Windows PC)

  • On your Android device (or Windows PC), access the screen mirroring function. Then select the projector name under the screen mirroring device list to connect your Android device to the projector
  • After successful connection, the screen contents of your Android device (or Windows PC) are casted to the projection surface
  • Several secondes may be needed for the picture to appear after the streaming starts

Note:

  1. For better streaming performance, use a 5 GHz WiFi network
  2. Due to content protection (DRM), Wi-Fi screen mirroring can’t be used to stream platforms like Netflix, Hulu, etc., unless used via Google Chrome from a Mac or PC.
  3. Google Pixel Phones are not compatible with this Screen Mirroring system

Windows 10’s Anniversary Update brings an interesting new feature: Any PC can now function as a wireless receiver for Miracast, allowing you to view the display from another Windows PC, an Android smartphone or tablet, or a Windows phone.

How to Turn Your PC Into a Miracast Receiver

To turn your PC into a Miracast receiver, just open Windows 10’s Start menu and open the “Connect” app. If you don’t see this app, you need to upgrade to the Anniversary Update.

Update: The Connect app is no longer installed by default on modern versions of Windows 10. However, you can still install it in a few clicks through Windows 10’s Settings app. Here’s how to install the Connect app.

With the app open, you’ll see a message that your PC is now ready for you to connect wirelessly. That’s it. You don’t need to mess with any firewall or network server settings. Just open the app whenever you want to cast.

On most PCs, you’ll likely see a “This device might have trouble displaying your content because its hardware wasn’t specifically designed for wireless projection” message. The application will still work, but it would likely work better if the PC’s hardware and hardware drivers were specifically designed to function for wireless projection.

How to Cast From Another Windows 10 PC

To connect from another PC running Windows 10, head to Settings > Display on that PC and select “Connect to a wireless display”. This setting should be in the same place on a phone running Windows 10 Mobile.

The PC running the Connect app should appear in the list. Click or tap it to connect.

How to use miracast screen mirroring from windows or android

After it connects, you’ll see a few more settings. Enable “Allow input from a keyboard or mouse connected to this display” and the PC functioning as the receiver will be able to interact with the PC through the Connect app.

How to use miracast screen mirroring from windows or android

To change the project mode, select “Change projection mode”. By default, it functions in “duplicate” mode and duplicates the contents of your screen. You can instead choose to extend the screen and treat the remote display as a second monitor, or only use the second screen.

Whichever option you choose, you can enable full-screen mode by clicking the “full screen” button on the window title bar.

How to Cast From an Android Device

To connect from an Android device, you can use the built-in Cast feature…as long as your phone supports it. This is Android, so things aren’t always simple. Your manufacturer may or may not include Miracast support on your phone or tablet. In fact, even Google has removed Miracast support from its latest Nexus devices. But, if your device does support Miracast, this should work.

To cast on Android, head to Settings > Display > Cast. Tap the menu button and activate the “Enable wireless display” checkbox. You should see your PC appear in the list here if you have the Connect app open. Tap the PC in the display and it’ll instantly start projecting.

Don’t see the option here? Your phone or tablet’s manufacturer may have put it in a different place. Look up how to use Miracast on your specific device for more information.

How to use miracast screen mirroring from windows or android

The Settings app is considered “protected content” for security reasons, however, so you’ll have to leave the Settings app before your Android device’s screen will appear in the Connect app. You’ll just see a black screen into the Connect app until then.

How to use miracast screen mirroring from windows or android

The Connect app will produce notifications that you’ll find an the action center. For example, when we connected an Android device, we saw a message saying protected content can’t be displayed, and that we couldn’t use the mouse on our PC to control the Android device’s screen.

To stop projecting, just close the Connect window on the PC receiving the remote display or end the remote display connection on the device projecting to it.

ClickShare 4 min read

The choice to collaborate with ClickShare in any meeting room using software or hardware is entirely up to you! On Windows PC and Mac, choose between the iconic ClickShare Button or the Desktop App – or combine the two! – or use one of the supported screen mirroring protocols Google Cast, AirPlay or Miracast. On Android and iOS mobile devices, choose between the ClickShare mobile Apps or use screen mirroring.

What is screen mirroring?

Screen mirroring is a technique allowing to mirror your mobile device or laptop onto a large screen. Watch your documents, photos, videos and mobile applications on a big screen and immediately involve your colleagues in the meeting. A wide range of presentation tools is available, allowing the sender to share content with a receiver over a wireless communication protocol. The most used and well-known protocols are Google Cast, AirPlay and Miracast.

    Google Cast

Google Cast or Chromecast is a communication protocol developed by Google which is natively supported on Android phones and tablets (as well as in the Chrome browser).

Simply connect your personal device to the same network of the ClickShare unit (or directly connect to the Base Unit Wi-Fi), press the Google Cast icon in your App of choice and select the ClickShare Base Unit to start sharing your content.

AirPlay

AirPlay allows full mirroring from any Apple iOS or MacOS device: iPhone, iPad and MacBooks. The Apple proprietary protocol offers a great content sharing solution within the Apple ecosystem.

Just like with Google Cast, either connect your device to the same network as the ClickShare unit or directly connect to the Base Unit Wi-Fi. Click the AirPlay Screen mirroring icon in the quick menu, select the ClickShare unit and start sharing.

Miracast

Unlike Apple’s AirPlay and Google’s Chromecast (on the Chromecast and Android TV devices), the Miracast Protocol is designed to be a cross-platform standard.

The Miracast receiver creates its own wireless network, and the sender connects directly (peer-to-peer or P2P) to it without compromising your personal Wi-Fi connection. This means that your PC or tablet can still be online through its Wi-Fi connection while streaming over Miracast. A limitation of the P2P connection is that only one Miracast device can be shown on screen at a time.

On your Windows pc, simply press the Windows key & “K” and select the ClickShare unit from the list to start your sharing session.

What are the unique features of the screen mirroring?

  • Intuitive, simple experience in all meeting rooms
  • No software installation needed
  • Fast on screen

Why use screen mirroring with ClickShare?

  • Freedom to choose how you want to share content: from any device, from any operating system.
  • Enhance the BYOD strategy of your company. Use any device on the work floor in any meeting room.
  • Boost spontaneous collaboration and give people the opportunity to benefit from the benefits of mobile devices like easy access to online content, cloud drives or photos, share camera view, take a screenshot to share, zoom…
  • Opportunity to fully mirror your screen onto the meeting room’s AV equipment.

Using the ClickShare Button, Apps and screen mirroring together! No need to choose…

You can use the iconic ClickShare Button, the ClickShare Mobile and Desktop Apps or screen mirroring via Google Cast, AirPlay or Miracast. The freedom and combination allow you to get on screen instantly with whichever device you have.

AirPlay and Google Cast are only available on the ClickShare Enterprise range (CSE-models). Miracast is only available on the CSE-200+.

How to use miracast screen mirroring from windows or androidIn what situations would you do a screen mirroring from Windows either for personal or business purposes? Here are a few examples.

Personal

Most times when you are commuting to and from work, you can use your Android to make video calls to someone or even watch parts of an interesting movie on your android screen, depending on the time you spend commuting.

Now imagine you are at home. You and the family want to watch a movie together and spend some quality time in each other’s company. So, all of you get into your car and go to the movies. Probably you have had a good time eating out of the popcorn buckets and sipping your cokes while watching your movie.

Would it be more beneficial, if you could just visit a website on your Android or home PC, pay for watching the same movie using your credit or debit card and cast this movie onto your home TV? Using screen mirroring from Windows you could do just that and enjoy your family time together in every sense as you now have the advantages of taking a break when you want to, and spending quality time with family members, talking and briefly discussing the events in the movie you all are watching.

Business

In a business environment, you could easily prepare your presentation for the meeting while at home, save it to your Android and then cast your Android screen onto the conference room TV and get on with your presentation.

How to Use Miracast for Screen Mirroring from Windows

How do you do screen mirroring from Windows to your TV? First, you check if both your devices namely your laptop and your TV, support Miracast technology. Your Windows PC or laptop is the device that will provide the output or the screen to show or mirror on your input device or TV.

Connect the Miracast compatible adapter or dongle , like your Roku streaming stick into your HDMI Port behind your TV, and the other end to a power socket. With this adapter, you are doing away with using a physical HDMI cable to do screen mirroring from Windows between the laptop and your TV, using your Miracast adapter like a wireless HDMI cable.

Now connect your laptop screen to the TV wirelessly to watch your show or movie on a much bigger screen, as if you had a cable physically connected between the two devices. You need to select your PC or laptop’s name on your TV screen when it shows on the big screen so screen mirroring from Windows can happen.

Miracast for Screen Mirroring from Android

Power up your TV and select your Miracast dongle as its input. On your Android device, locate the option called wireless display in settings. This differs from device to device. Turn the wireless display feature on and wait until your Android locates your TV. When your TV shows your Android identity on its screen, just tap on the name to connect.

Now you can see your Android screen duplicated on your big screen TV just as we discussed in screen mirroring from Windows from your PC or laptop device.

Conclusion

Whether it is for personal reasons or to facilitate a business presentation in a company conference room, screen mirroring from Windows is a very good option to do away with lengthy HDMI cables between a PC and a TV by using wireless technology.

How to use miracast screen mirroring from windows or android

Advantages and disadvantages of Connect

Advantages:

  • Quick, easy connection
  • Mirror images and sounds of Android devices to Windows computers

Defect:

  • The two devices both communicate with each other using a protocol called Wi-Fi Direct. The thing is that Wi-Fi Direct creates its own hotspot, which greatly affects the WiFi connection on other devices
  • Only used to mirror images, sounds, no other functions
  • The Connect app is not currently able to rotate the display according to Android devices

Mirror Android screen to Windows device for what?

Due to its ease of use, this feature works well in three roles:

  • Transmission media center – Similar to Chromecast, the Connect app also allows users to display browsers, including Netflix and Spotify on the screen connected to Windows 10. As a media center, Android device as a remote control device with a screen twice as big.
  • Wireless Android Monitor – You can also pair your Android device with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard, turning it into a desktop computer. However, there are also some speed issues, which can reduce the user experience.
  • Presentation Platform – I mentioned this in the first part, but its importance is another matter. Not only does it remove most of the problems associated with presenting slides from a single computer, it also provides you with a free remote driver (your phone).

Overall Connect is the easiest method I’ve tried (including the Miracast adapter) of all wireless mirroring apps. If you view your Android device on a larger screen, you can use this.

How to use miracast screen mirroring from windows or android
