Instagram is possibly the only social network of note that is totally driven by images. Where it’s a great place for users to share amatuer photography, it’s also an excellent marketing ground for brands that want to promote a lifestyle through their products. The app has recently received an update and the highlight of this update is the ability to add and manage multiple Instagram accounts from a single device. The update has been rolled out to both Android and iOS. Here’s how to add multiple accounts to the Instagram app.
Open the Instagram app and tap the profile tab at the bottom right. On your profile tab, tap the cog wheel icon at the top right to go to the Options screen. Scroll down and tap the ‘Add Account’ button. You will be prompted to enter the username and password for the account you want to add.
With more than one account added to Instagram, the profile icon at the bottom will change to the profile image of whichever account is currently active. Tap the profile icon to switch to a different account.
Switching profiles is pretty easy which means managing multiple accounts is going to be easy in itself. For anyone with both a personal and professional Instagram account to manage, this feature is going to be very useful. The app doesn’t allow you to add an unlimited number of accounts. The number is capped off at five so no more than five accounts on one device. You can sign out of accounts individually, or all at once from the Options screen.

Sometimes, you don’t want to share an Instagram Story with all your followers. Fortunately, Instagram has a dedicated whitelist option for those times. This feature, called Close Friends, allows you to share a Story with just a small group of friends.
How to Configure a Close Friends List
There are a few ways you can manage your Close Friends list for Instagram Stories. You can add someone to your Close Friends list from his profile or use the dedicated “Close Friends” screen from your own.
To get started, open Instagram and tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner to go to your Profile.
Next, tap the hamburger menu in the top-right corner.
Tap “Close Friends.”
The first time you use this feature, the list will be empty; tap “Get Started.”
You can type someone’s name in the “Search” bar to look for them on Instagram.
When you find the person you want to add to your Close Friends list, tap “Add” next to the account name. Repeat this for all the friends you want to add.
When you’re done, tap “Create List,” and your Close Friends list is ready!
Now, when you return to your “Close Friends” section, you see the people you added at the top. You also see a list of suggested profiles—tap “Add” if you want to add any of these people to your Close Friends list. If you want to remove someone from the list, simply tap “Remove.”
You can also remove a friend you follow from your Close Friends list from their own profile. To do so, tap “Following.”
You have to tap “Add to Close Friends List” first.
You can then come back and tap “Close Friend” to remove that person from your Close Friends list.
You can change and edit your Close Friends list any time, and as many times as you want. Instagram doesn’t notify your friends about your Close Friends list activity.
How to Share Stories with Close Friends
The Close Friends feature is integrated into the Instagram Stories interface.
To use it, swipe in from the left on the main Instagram interface. Create a new Instagram Story as you usually would (and maybe try out some of the new effects).
When you’re done editing your Story, tap “Close Friends” in the bottom toolbar to share it with your Close Friends.
Your Profile icon in the Stories section will have a green circle around it to signify it’s a Close Friends Story. If you see this same green circle around a friend’s profile picture in the Stories section, it means you’re on their Close Friends list.
When you’re viewing your own Close Friends story, you can tap “Close Friends” at the top right to edit your Close Friends list.
You can also swipe up on your Story to see which of your Close Friends have viewed it.
Go “Close Friends Only” with the Threads App
Instagram also has a new Threads app dedicated to your Close Friends list. It’s a good way to stay in touch with your nearest and dearest without getting distracted by memes or videos.
Threads is the Close Friends feature in its own app. It allows you to quickly share a Story with one friend or your whole Close Friends list. Your Instagram DMs with Close Friends are available in the Threads app, as well.
Conversations in Threads are fully functional for you even if your friends don’t use the app (they can use the Close Friends feature in Instagram).

You may not want to share your Instagram Stories with every one of your hundreds of followers. Thanks to the Close Friends feature, you can curate a select list.
If you’ve ever seen someone’s Instagram Story have a green ring around it, that means it’s only for that person’s Close Friends list, which you’re on. The Close Friends feature allows you to post Instagram Stories for a particular group of followers that can be changed at any time. When you add or remove someone, Instagram won’t notify them.
Here’s how to add people, edit, and post Stories for your Instagram Close Friends list using the Instagram app for iPhone and Android devices.

New This Week: How to Use the Instagram Close Friends Feature for Business
Last updated on: 2018
In the past, Instagram Stories have always had to be seen by all followers (unless they’re part of a direct message). Now, this is no longer the case due to a new update on Instagram!
Instagram recently announced a new feature called “Close Friends” that allows you to send private stories with a select group of people.
Now you can make a close friends list on Stories to share with just the people that you’ve added. This new feature gives you the opportunity to share more personal moments with a smaller group that can choose.
How do I add friends to my “Close Friends” list?
1. Go to your Profile page. You can get here by tapping the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
2. Tap the three lines icon in the top right corner of your screen.
3. Tap “Close Friends”. Tap “Add” next to the usernames of people that you would like to add to your list, or “Search” to search for a specific friend.
4. Once you’re finished adding users, tap “Done”. Keep in mind that you can update this list at any time, and the users will not be notified when they are added or removed.
How do I share an Instagram Story only to my “Close Friends” list?
Once you’re ready to starting sharing Stories, here’s how to share it with your Close Friends only.
1. Tap the green circle with a white star inside. This will take you to your “Close Friends” list.
2. Select which Close Friends to include. Instagram will automatically give you suggestions based on the accounts that you interact with the most.
3. Post your Story! Whenever you want to post a story with Close Friends, just tap the green circle. Instead of the usual purple color, Close Friends will now see a green ring around your story.
How can I use the “Close Friends” feature for my business?
As the “Close Friends” feature just rolled out a few days, we are excited to see how businesses will be using it!
It’s easy to imagine brands using the feature to create VIP lists, fan clubs or paid subscribers where users can opt in to receive additional posts and exclusive content. For example, if your beauty brand has a new product launch coming out or wants to host a sale for VIP members, the new Close Friends feature could be a great way to spread the word to a specific group of people.
If you’re a brand that works with influencers for specific Instagram campaigns, you can create a Close Friends list for them to easily share posts that would interest or involve them.
Instagram has yet to announce any special tools to help publishers manager these lists, but it’s likely that more updates will be implemented to help businesses utilize the feature more strategically as well.

SEO: How to Search Engine Optimize Your Blog Content
What is SEO? If you’ve read our previous SEO posts, you’ll know that SEO stands for search engine optimization and is the process of getting traffic from the free, organic, editorial or natural search results on search engines. How to use Instagram Close Friends to see your favourite content first
For the most part, the Instagram algorithm works to show you posts from the people or accounts you view and engage with most. But sometimes, a person you followed after meeting one time at a party 3 months ago is viewing your stories and for some reason, their 5 photo collage of a Sunday forest walk has just appeared first on your feed. You could unfollow them, but she was YOUR BEST FRIEND in the bathroom for 40 minutes so that just feels rude. Plus how awkward when you eventually bump into each other again….
There have been many Instagram algorithm changes over the last few years and the type of content I see on the app has changed a lot. For me, Instagram is about staying up to date with my friends, and content creators/influencers/bloggers (whatever you want to call them) that inspire or inform me about things I’m interested in. Content that sparks something positive inside my head.
But for a long time, this just didn’t seem to be happening and I almost gave up on the app altogether.
Enter Instagram Close Friends feature
Instagrams Close Friends list feature was a welcome addition to the app. Finally, we could share more personal, less picture-perfect photos with our best friends. But isn’t that what Whatsapp is for? I never really got into the habit of using my Close Friends list, so I decided to make use of it in another way.
I realised that the feature essentially signals to the Instagram algorithm my favourite accounts. I could add my favourite people and accounts to my close friend list and cut out all the other stuff I wasn’t interested in. So now when I go on to the Instagram app the first stories and posts shown to me are from the accounts I’ve added to my list.
Thanks to this little hack I enjoy the app again and have made it a much more positive place. Social media can be really great if you use it in the right ways, but we all know it can be super toxic at times. This tick helps solve that problem, give it a go and see if your social media experience improves!
How do you use Instagram Close Friends?
To use the feature, open up the Stories camera and take a photo or video. After you finish your shot, you’ll notice a new green circle with a white star in it. Tap it, and you’ll be brought to the close friend’s list where you can add people to your inner circle. Instagram will suggest friends to you based on the people you interact with most, or you can use a search box to finish your list.
Does Instagram tell close friends?
Instagram won’t notify your chosen Close Friends when you add or remove them from your list. No one can request to be added either. It’s completely private so you can add and remove people as you please.
Can you see who is on someone’s close friends list?
Close Friends lists are private and cannot be viewed by others.
Can you see if you’re on someone’s best friends list?
The only way to really know if you’re on someone’s Close Friends list is to wait until they post a Close Friends Story. If you see their Story updated with a green ring around it, you know it’s for Close Friends only.
Instagram Close Freinds allows us to take back some control over the social algorithms. I hope this post helps you use Close Friends to stay in contact with and see your favourite people and content creators first.

Friends are great, but not all friends are the same. It’s just a fact that we all know and accept. And now, Instagram has added a new feature that lets close friends interact without involving everyone else. On Instagram, users can now keep Instagram Stories private using Close Friends, an appropriately named setting that allows you to share Stories with only a select group of people. This means there’s no need to worry about exes, bosses, or that friend of a friend who insisted on exchanging handles viewing your Stories if you don’t want them to.
To use Close Friends, you first have to make a list of which friends are your “close friends.” Kinda takes you back to the MySpace Top 8, doesn’t it? (Don’t worry, no one will see who you choose this time.) To make the list you go to your profile and in the sidebar click “Close Friends.” After adding your friends to the list, when you share a Story, you’ll have the option to share it with only your Close Friends. When you post a Story, the people on your list will see a green ring around your profile photo instead of the usual purple and orange ring. They will also see a green star badge when watching your Story.
Of course, this all also works in the other direction too. If you have been added to someone’s list, you’ll start seeing a green ring around their Stories if they post one that is shared with their list.
You can change your list at any time and users cannot request to be added. This way no one who is not on your list knows if you even have one. That said, if you add someone to your list, consistently post Stories that they can see for six months, and then remove them, they’ll probably get suspicious. Also, in another potentially awkward social media meets social reality situation, someone could in real life request to be added to your list, leaving you to confirm or deny them in person or say something like, “Oh, yeah. I’ll add you later. My battery’s super low.”
In a press release about the feature, which was launched on Friday, November 30, Instagram explained that the point of Close Friends is to make things more personal in a way that they might have been when many users first joined the app:
Instagram Stories has become the place to express yourself and share everyday moments, but our community has grown and sometimes what you want to share isn’t for everyone. With Close Friends, you have the flexibility to share more personal moments with a smaller group that you choose.
The update is reminiscent of Snapchat, which lets users choose who they are sending each post to. Instagram’s Close Friends doesn’t offer as much flexibility — at least not yet. There is only one pre-set, but adjustable, list, which means that you have to go through multiple steps if you only want, say, three people to see your Story, rather than the six you tend to keep on your list. Perhaps in the future Instagram will add a setting for multiple lists where users can have one for close friends, family, coworkers, etc. For now, though, users can rest easy knowing that they can get a little more expressive with their Stories.
Some things are better shared with just a few friends
Stories are a popular feature on Instagram for sharing content on a more casual basis than regular posts, but you don’t always want to share them with all of your followers. In this case, Instagram’s Close Friends feature is a good solution. Here’s how to use it.
Instagram’s Close Friends feature is only available on the official mobile app for iOS or Android. You can’t use it in a web browser.
What Is Instagram’s Close Friends Feature?
Instagram’s Close Friends feature is a customizable list of people you like sharing your stories with the most. It helps you instantly share those more intimate stories with just the users you consider closest to you (whether you follow them or not).
At this time, you can only use Close Friends with stories and not with other Instagram sharing features like posts or direct messages.
How to Use Close Friends on Instagram
Follow these steps to create a Close Friends list and add people to it.
Tap your profile picture in the bottom-right of the screen.
Select the menu button in the top-right corner.
Select Close Friends from the vertical menu.
You should see a list of suggested users to add to your Close Friends list. Tap Add to include someone in that list, or use the Search field at the top to quickly locate and add a specific person.
Users don’t know when you add them to your Close Friends list. You can tap Your List at the top to see everyone on it. Instagram has no known limit to how many users you can add to your Close Friends list.
If this is your first time creating a Close Friends list, tap Create List. If you already have a Close Friends list, skip this step.
Once you create a Close Friends list, you can easily share stories with them. Take a photo or record a video, then tap the Close Friends button at the bottom of the screen to instantly share it.
To remove someone from your Close Friends list, navigate to Your Profile > Menu > Close Friends > Your List and tap Remove beside the person’s username. Users are not notified when you do this.
How Users Know They’re One of Your Close Friends
Although Instagram doesn’t notify users when you add or remove them from your Close Friends list, they can tell which stories you shared with Close Friends from the stories you share with everyone by looking at the color of the ring around your profile picture in the stories feed whenever you post a new one. Close friends see a green ring instead of a pink ring. The green ring is the only way a user can tell they’re a Close Friend.
Instagram has rolled out a new feature called Close Friends. It’s a way to share posts with select individuals. This new feature lets you create a list of specific followers. Then you can share select Instagram Stories and Posts with only these designated users.
Your business can take advantage of this feature. Create a list of select followers who are your loyal clientele or prospects who are followers. Then you can share exclusive content and promotions.

Before, everyone could see your Instagram stories, unless your Instagram account was private. You could go to the settings of the app to hide your stories and live video for some people. It was quite complicated. Now you can define a new list of close friends. When you make a story, you can share it in your story or with your close friends.
Today we’re going to explain what it is and how to use the new Instagram Best feature. This is a feature presented at the end of November 2018, and that has gradually been reaching all users. Its purpose is to allow you to create a list of users to whom you can send certain stories that others can not see.
Let’s start the article explaining in the simplest way possible what exactly Instagram’s close friends are and what specific function this list has on Instagram.
What Is The Close Friends Feature On Instagram?
Although most users appreciate the simplicity of the application in their daily use, one of the particularly expected options is the ability to create a list of people.
It is possible to create lists on multiple social networks, and until now, it was not possible on Instagram. And in a pragmatic way, following hundreds/thousands of people made it very difficult to share specific content with specific people.
Now, with the “Close Friends” feature, you can share Stories with a pre-determined group of people as part of your subscriptions.
Here’s How To Unlock The Potential For Your Business.
Number#1. Set up your list of close friends on Instagram
Only you can set your list of close friends: users cannot ask to be on your list or see if you have added/deleted them. In the same way as for other features, it is possible to access the list of close friends in many ways.
From your profile settings
In order to set up your close friends list from within your profile settings, click on your profile picture at the bottom right of the application and then on the three horizontal bars! You should then have in the list of suggestions the Close friends:
The list of close friends will then open, offering users to add in it. You can as well use the search engine to include specific contacts. To remove people from your list, simply click on the Delete button next to each username.
From your Story slide
This method only works if your list of close friends is empty.
Start by uploading your photo/video content into your Story as usual, then click on the green star at the bottom left of your screen. If there is no one in your list of close friends, a pop-up window will allow you to add people to this list. Once you add contacts to this list, this story slide will be shared with them.
Number#2. You can send IG Stories to your very own Close Friends List
For the moment, Instagram only allows the sharing of Stories to people on this list: classic publications will remain visible to all except if you have a private account naturally.
To send a story to your Close Friends List, create it as usual and click on Close friends at the bottom of your screen:
Once you have shared a Story with a list of close friends, you will notice a green circle around your profile picture:
When you watch the Story being broadcast to your close friends, you’ll notice a green insert at the top right of the Close Friends screen:
Everyone on your Close Friends List will see the green circle around your profile picture.
Important: Stories slides that you share with your close friends will not appear in performance statistics. These are considered separate content. However, you will have the opportunity, as for a classic story, to know how many people have seen in the 24 hours after its broadcast.
Number#3. Exploit the close friends for your business
There are different ways to use this feature for businesses. First and foremost, it is important to keep in mind that you will have to follow an account that you want to add as a close friend, which means following people you would not have followed.
Reward your best subscribers
Inevitably, you will have subscribers who stand out in terms of commitment to your content. You could say that these people deserve to be pampered by you, by offering exclusive promotions or previews.
Send exclusive content and offers to your VIP club
If you offer services that require membership, you could add your customers as close friends to provide them with personalized communication.
Collaborate with influencers
If you collaborate regularly with specific influencers, you could add them to your Close Friends List. This way, you’ll give them access to special opportunities or ask tough questions before they go to your global community.
Be grateful to loyal customers
While Instagram Stories are not as personal as a paper letter, you could share a thank you video specifically with your best customers. This is to avoid sending a private message to each of the contacts.
Instagram users have for many months expressed their desire to create custom lists. Some people then chose to create what are called Finstragrams, that is to say, accounts specifically intended to exchange only with a limited list of people. It is no longer necessary to go through this type of practice, which is particularly time-consuming.
On the other hand, with the group-based private messaging feature, users can send messages, publications, and stories in a filtered fashion. When you post a story, both normal stories and those sent to close friends will appear in your feed. However, you can distinguish them by the green button of close friends that appears in the ones you have sent to this Close Friends List. The people who receive it will see it as if it were a normal story, without any special callsign.
