Using this interface, you can scan or swipe a hard disk partition and remove the viruses. In case if you do not know about the particular infected drive, you can do full-device scans for better security. These disks come with Internet support. So, there is no problem in updating to the latest virus definitions and removing even the toughest ones in street.

How to Clean Your PC using Bitdefender Rescue Disk?

There are two major steps involved, but we will go in-detail.

Step #1 — Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk

First of all, you have to download Kaspersky Rescue Disk, from the official sources. You need to download the latest and updated version, due to some reasons. First, it will have a better scanning process; second, it will also have some updated virus definitions. The download size is 286MB. It should be downloaded in a few minutes or so.

Step #2 — Burn the Files into Disc

Now, you have to burn all the information to a Compact Disc or a DVD. In fact, you are downloading an .ISO file and you’d need a third-party solution to burn files to discs. Alternatively, you can try some solutions to burn the same to a USB Drive. Of course, depending on the OS version, you can choose the convenient burning software.

Step #3 — Boot the Disc

You can insert your Kaspersky Rescue Disk into the computer and reboot your device. While booting up, you will see one message like shown below. It says, press any key to enter the menu. You will have 10 seconds to press any key. If you do not press any key, system will boot Windows normally.

Step #4 — Choose the Mode

Now, from the upcoming menu, you have to choose the corresponding option. You can either choose the Graphics Option or the Text Mode.

How to use the kaspersky rescue disk to clean your infected pc

You also have options for Reboot, Hardware Info and Shut Down in the same menu. The best choice is Graphics mode. Press enter to move on.

Step #5 — Accept the Agreement

You have to press ‘a’ [Lowercase] to accept the agreement. You may read the whole agreement if you like.

Step #6 — Launch the Dashboard

Now, you would be in the main interface of Kaspersky Rescue Disk. It’s more or less like any other Windows program.

Step #7 — Update Virus Database

To update the virus database, you have to go to ‘My Update Centre’. From the interface, select the ‘Start Update’ button and it will download latest definitions for you. Of course, you need an active internet connection at this point.

Step #8 — Start Scanning

You can now go back to the ‘Objects Scan’ tab and hit the button to ‘Start Objects Scan’. Depending on size of data and the type of malware, the scanning may take a few minutes. You should have the patience to wait until the process is fully done.

How to use the kaspersky rescue disk to clean your infected pc

After the scans are completed, you will be able to see the presence of viruses, if any. Now, just as you with other antivirus programs, you can Quarantine the files. By the way, Kaspersky Rescue Disk offers a bunch of additional features like a File Manager, Terminal, Screenshot, Network Setup and Web Browser. You also have basic system controls here.

If you have become infected with any kind of computer malware the best way to clean the infection is to use an ‘offline’ Scanner and removal tool rather than one running though the operating system itself.

What is offline scanning, and why is it better?

Offline scanning is a term used to describe the process of scanning a computer for malware without booting up the operating system installed on that computer. This is usually accomplished by having a recovery CD (or USB Stick) onto which a recovery system has been installed, and booting the machine from that disk.
This technique is preferable to booting in to the operating system first and then scanning as there are some types of malware (known as ‘Rootkits’) that are able to hide themselves from the operating system at boot up time, and thus avoid detection. But, If you don’t boot into the Operating system first, the malware cloaking isn’t running and detection is actually much easier.

One of our favourite and tools for doing this scan is the Kaspersky Rescue Disk, which is a bootable CD containing a Linux based version of the well respected Internet security suite.

Obtaining and using the Kaspersky Rescue Disk

There are three ways that you can get your hands on a Kaspersky Rescue CD

  1. If you own a disk that you purchased, then this is already a rescue CD and can be used to boot your PC.
  2. You can download the ISO from Kaspersky and then burn it to a CD to create a Rescue Disk (Click here for the Kaspersky webpage with instructions for downloading)
  3. If you know someone with a clean PC running Kaspersky, then you can use that installation to create the rescue disk (Click here for the Kaspersky webpage with instructions)

Once you have a physical rescue disk in your hand, the next step is to boot your PC, from the disk, this involves having the CD in the drive when you power on the PC, and then booting in to the disk (Note – depending on your system set-up you may have to change the boot order on your PC, this is usually done either with an ‘F’ key press at startup, or by changing the BIOS, as all PC’s are different it is impractical in this tutorial to provide exact instructions for your PC).

Once you have started the boot process form the CD you will see a screen with a countdown something like the one below – press any key on the keyboard before the countdown reaches zero to boot the CD, if you don’t press a key in time, the PC will boot the hard drive as normal instead.

Once the PC has booted you will see the Startup screen below, for the purposes of this tutorial you will need to select the ‘Graphical Mode’ option and press ‘Enter’

Next you will see the License Agreement – you will need to press the ‘A’ key to accept the agreement and proceed from here. (Some users report that you need to use a capital ‘A‘ and others report that only a lower case ‘a‘ will work so you may need to try both to proceed)

How to use the kaspersky rescue disk to clean your infected pc

Once you have cleared the License agreement you will see the main scan screen shown below.

How to use the kaspersky rescue disk to clean your infected pc

The first thing you will need to do is flip the screen to the ‘My Update Center‘ screen and then hit the ‘Start Update‘ button to make sure you have the latest Anti-Virus definitions. You will obviously need to be connected to the Internet to do the update, the drivers in the Kaspersky may not recognise your wireless card so we recommend that you connect to your router via an Ethernet cable.

How to use the kaspersky rescue disk to clean your infected pc

Once you have updated your definitions database you can return to the ‘Objects Scan‘ tab, select the drives you wish to scan by ticking the appropriate boxes and then click the ‘Start Objects Scan‘ button.

The rescue CD will now proceed to scan your drive(s) and clean them of all known infections, and then provide you with a report at the end.

Once everything is complete you can exit the recovery environment and re-boot your PC in to your Operating System

If these are the case, you should try some methods of PC Disinfection before moving to installation. You can one of the two methods depending on whether you have access to your desktop and PC Settings. These two methods are proven to be effective and is loved by security-conscious people out there.

So, when you cannot have the best Kaspersky program installed it, this free tool can be an effective option to disinfect your PC.

As we said, it’s a program that you can install and use in your Windows PC. It means that your Windows PC should be able to be booted, if you want to use this feature. If that’s the case and if the device configuration is fine with requirements, you can get started with the following steps.

How to burn and use a rescue CD? A method to remove ransomware from your PC.

The recent outrage of ransomware (screen lockers) has impelled me to write this guide to describe how computer users can boot from a rescue disk. Whilst rescue disks are no longer the most common method to remove spyware and viruses, the recent rise in screen locker infections makes them an effective alternative to unlock your PC. Commonly, rescue disks are used to remove viruses from computers when it is impossible to use Safe Mode. In this guide, I use ImgBurn software to burn the .iso file to a CD.

To download ImgBurn, click here. We will use the Kaspersky Rescue Disk, which can be downloaded here. We chose this rescue disk since Kaspersky remains one of the top antivirus vendors. In addition, their rescue disk is easy-to-use and employs an attractive graphical user interface. If your computer is infected with a ransomware infection (for example, FBI Your Computer Has Been Locked, Police Central e-crime Unit scam, etc.) and you are unable to boot your computer in Safe Mode, follow this guide to remove the infections using a rescue disk.

1. Download the Kaspersky Rescue Disk and ImgBurn software (use the links provided above).

2. Burn the Kaspersky Rescue Disk .iso file to a blank CD: Install ImgBurn software, launch it, and select ‘Write image file to disk’. In the opened window, choose the downloaded Kaspersky Rescue Disk (kav_rescue_10.iso) file and click the ‘write image file to disk’ icon at the bottom of the window.

3. After you have a Kaspersky Rescue Disk, boot your computer from CD/DVD: Restart your PC and look for information relating to the key required to enter boot menu (you can refer to your motherboard manual, most commonly it is F11, DEL, or the F2 key). Within the boot menu, select CD/DVD-ROM as your first boot device.

4. When the Kaspersky Rescue Disk starts to load, click any key to proceed.

5. In the language selection menu, select your preferred language and press Enter.

6. Accept the licence agreement by pressing 1 on your keyboard.

7. On the following screen, select Kaspersky Rescue Disk. Graphic Mode.

After following these steps, boot your computer from the Kaspersky Rescue Disk. If you are dealing with an infected computer, follow these steps to remove any malware or viruses:

1. Click the start button at the bottom left corner of the Kaspersky Rescue Disk main screen.

2. Select and run the Kaspersky WindowsUnlocker utility, which will fix malicious registry entries.

3. After running the WindowsUnlocker, click start again and select Kaspersky Rescue Disk. Update it, and after selecting the drives required for scanning, click ‘Start Objects Scan’.

4. Remove any infections detected and restart your computer.

After this procedure, your operating system should start in both Normal and Safe modes. To ensure your computer is free from any remaining security infections, start your computer in Normal Mode and scan your PC with Malwarebytes Anti-malware.

Any AV product that comes with bootable media can be used to remove malware — but it is unlikely they will fix a boot problem.

Since you have Win10, you can do that yourself. You will need access to a working PC for this step in order to create the media needed to repair your PC boot loader.

Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit). While you CAN change these settings, do NOT. If you do, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!

You will need to go to the Advanced Options screen and click on Startup Repair. You will probably have to run Startup Repair three times for it to fix all the boot loader problems.

When done, your PC should boot OK. If it does not, there is a more serious problem.
