When it comes to its interface, Kodi has been playing it safe for a while now. That’s because Kodi 19 ‘Matrix’ comes with a default skin called ‘Estuary,’ which hasn’t really changed in quite some time now. However, the good thing is that you can easily change the default Kodi skin, and there’s plenty to choose from.
What’s interesting about Kodi skins is the fact that they don’t just bring a fresh coat of paint. Instead, they can completely change the way Kodi looks and works. They bring all-new menus, new kinds of animations, different ways of presenting your media library, and more.
Of course, not every skin is the same. The best Kodi skins follow Kodi’s development path, and they’re updated often. That’s a huge deal if you don’t want to end up with a faulty Kodi skin, causing technical problems with the application. This is precisely why we’ve taken the task of finding truly the best Kodi skins.
You should know that Kodi 19 ‘Matrix’ is now available for download (in addition, Kodi 19.1 has been released as well, resolving a number of bugs). However, if you plan on updating your Kodi, know that the latest version of this application breaks compatibility with a large number of addons. That means that you’ll need to wait for third-party developers to make their addons compatible with Kodi 19, which could take some time.
So, if you plan on using plenty of addons, we recommend using Kodi 18.9 for now. That’s because downgrading from Kodi 19 to Kodi 18 can be a very tricky task to accomplish, and even impossible in many cases.
How to Find & Install Skins on Kodi?
Changing Kodi’s appearance is very easy and shouldn’t take more than a few seconds of your time. With that said, here’s how to find and install skins on Kodi (v19, v18 & Older).
- Launch Kodi click on the cogwheel icon in the top-left content.
- This will open Kodi’s settings panel, where you need to click on ‘Interface.’
- Make sure to select ‘Skin‘ on the left. On the right, click on the name of the currently active skin.

The above-explained method shows you how to install skins from Kodi’s own repository. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to download skins from the Web as well, make sure to check our guide to changing skins on Kodi.
In this article, we are talking about Kodi and this application’s official and unofficial addons – all of which are based on open-source code. Addons for Kodi can come from the official source (you can install them via Kodi itself), or they can be hosted by third-party sources (such as GitHub, for example). In addition, Kodi and its addons are publicly available and free of charge.
Make sure to carefully read everything said in this disclaimer and ensure the proper use of the software.
Warning: Why you should ALWAYS USE a VPN with Kodi?
Here are the reasons that you should consider looking at it without SKIPPING.
- Using ILLEGAL Kodi Addons are Dangerous without a VPN: Most of the Kodi users are installing the ILLEGAL Kodi addons on their system to access all the latest movies, TV shows, sports, music, and much more for FREE, than a legal Kodi addon where it has the least content in it. But do you know what? The video content on illegal addons is scraped and copyrighted material. If you are accessing them on Kodi, then your activities will be monitored by your ISP by tracking your IP and gives all the information to the government or companies if they request for it. This will land you in trouble. To stay away from this, you will have to connect to a VPN where it hides your identity by rotating your IP address while streaming Kodi content. This is how you will be safe from the prying eyes.
- Bypass Geo-Restriction: As you probably know, some official addons like BBC iPlayer, NBC Sports, Hulu, IceFilms have geo-location restrictions. This also applies to other addons like Acestream which fetches the data from torrents. To unblock these restrictions, you will have to DEFINITELY use a VPN no matter what.
The above are the 2 reasons that forcing us to recommend a VPN to the Kodi users for safer streaming. In fact, after testing several VPNs for Kodi, we finally came up with a one non-stop solution and that is ExpressVPN, the top-rated Kodi VPN so far.
Limited Time Offer: For our TechNadu readers, there is a 49% OFF on ExpressVPN which includes 3 FREE Months in it.
Best Kodi Skins in 2021
The following are the 15 best Kodi skins you can find right now.

Ever wish Kodi looked…different? Maybe you’re not a big fan of how the home page is laid out, or you wish the typography and color choices were more (or less!) subtle. However you wish Kodi looked, there’s probably a skin that’s right for you, and many of them can be customized to your liking. Best of all, installing them isn’t hard at all.
Earlier this year brought Estuary, Kodi’s new default skin, which is surprisingly customizable for a default: you can change everything from the color scheme to what is and isn’t on the home page. I suggest messing around with that before diving too much into custom skins, because it’s an extremely well-supported skin. But if really want to make Kodi your own, here’s how to find and install more skins.
How to Install and Switch Skins
Skins are add-ons, meaning that if you know how to install Kodi add-ons, you know how to install Kodi skins. Kodi make things simple by adding a shortcut to downloadable things right in the skin selector in settings, so let’s head there.
On the home screen, click the gear icon that opens the settings.
From here head to the “Interface” section.
The top menu item here lets you choose a skin.
Select this and a window will pop up, in which you can select a new skin.
By default there are only two skins installed: Estuary, the Kodi default, and Etouchy, which is optimized for touchscreens. The “Get More” button takes you directly to the Skins section in the add-on manager, where you can easily download new skins to try out. Let’s explore a few, shall we?
The Best Skins for Kodi
If you’re wondering which skins to try out, here are a few stand-outs we like. First, there’s Eminence, which offers easy-to-read text that still gives the fanart lots of room to breathe. By default it puts movies front-and-center on the home screen, though you can customize this if you’re willing to dig in.
We’re also big fans of Mimic. The text is pretty thin, so anyone with a smaller TV may want to look elsewhere, but the look is very modern and everything is easy to find.
If you want something that really stands out, check out (fuse)neue, which offers crisp text with a few striking highlights, and an interface that mostly stays out of the way.
Most skins are customizable, but Aeon Nox is on another level. There are numerous custom widgets you can add to any section, and you also have completely control over the sections shown. You can lose hours tweaking this thing.
If simplicity is what you’re looking for, Arctic Zephr builds on its snowy theme to make something crisp and refreshing. But below that simplicity lies a lot of customization options, which let you really build whatever you want if you’re willing to take the time.
Finally, if you want something completely different, there’s Revolve, which attempts to build a circular user interface. Menus orbit around the circle on the left. It’s interesting, if nothing else.
These are just a few skins offered in the default repository. There are other skins in the default repository also worth checking out, and you can find more on the Kodi forum if you’re willing to deal with bugs. For the most part, however, the best supported skins are in the default Kodi repository, so we suggest all but the bravest users stick with those.
How to Customize Your Kodi Skins
As we’ve mentioned, most of these skins allow you to customize them. What you can customize depends on which skin you’re using, and we couldn’t begin to outline all the options for all the skins, so it’s best to just go browse the customization menu yourself. To get started, head to Settings, then find the “Skin settings” section.
From here you’ll find all sorts of options.
Again, what you can do varies by which skin you’re using, but generally you can change the background images and a few color options. You also might be able to change what does and doesn’t show up in the main menu, and which widgets show up over which menu items. If you find a skin you like, it’s worth diving into the settings and really making it your own. Take a look at our guide to customizing Estuary, Kodi’s default skin, if you want to see what kinds of things can be changed.

Kodi 17.0, codename Krypton, is here. There are all kinds of new features, but the most obvious is the new default theme: Estuary. This theme looks great, and is very functional, but it gets better.
Unlike default themes of the past, Estuary gives you a lot of room to customize things. You can choose which sub-sections show up under sections like TV and Movies, and also pick custom backgrounds and colors. Here’s how to tweak Kodi to look just the way you want it, without installing a new skin.
Access the Theme Settings
First, let’s find the basic theme settings. From the main screen in Kodi, click the gear near the top-left of the screen, beside the power button.
This will take you to the main System Settings screen. To start, select Skin settings.
From here you’ll be brought to the General section of the Skin settings.
There are a few things to toggle here. including whether the current outdoor temperature shows up below the clock at the top-right of the screen. I personally like to enable this. The other things you can tweak here are relatively straightforward: whether or not the slide animations take place, whether plot descriptions scroll on the screen when they’re too long to show up otherwise, and enabling media flags (the small icons that metadata like 1080p or surround sound).
This doesn’t seem like much, because it isn’t. The real fun gets started in the other sub-menus.
Edit What’s in Your Home Screen
Head to the “Main menu items” submenu and you can turn off any of the screens that show up in the main menu.
Don’t have music on your media center? You can turn the section off altogether. Don’t see the point of having a “Video” section, when there’s already a “TV Shows” and “Movies” section? Turn it off. You can even completely remove categories like “Movies” and “TV Shows” from your main menu, if you want. Just flip the switches on this page.
You can even edit what categories show up under each of these sections on the main page. For example, if you don’t want to see “Recently Viewed” TV shows, or “Currently Watching,” you can remove them by clicking “Edit Categories” under TV Shows. When you do, you’ll be prompted to install the Library Note Editor add-on. Go ahead and choose Yes.
The add-on will eventually launch, showing you the sub-sections in your menu.
You can delete any category pressing “C” to trigger the menu, then using the delete button.
I’m not a huge fan of the “Recently Added” section in the TV and Movie screens, because I don’t add things very often, so I removed it. You can also create custom categories based on a variety of criteria; dive in and you’ll be up and running in no time.
Change the Background Images
The home screen, by default, has a static background image. Head to the “Artwork” section, however, and you can change this.
The first option, whether you should show media fanart as a background, will change the fanart behind your skin depending on the currently selected media. For example, if you slide over to Star Trek: The Next Generation in the main menu, you’ll see a Star Trek image behind the interface.
It’s subtle, but some users really like it. And with this option enabled you can also select fanart packs to show while browsing things like genres, countries, and the weather.
For example: if you download a weather fanart pack, then check out the weather in the home screen, you’ll see different images behind everything depending on the conditions outside.
See the rain in the background? That’s because I live in Oregon, and it’s February. You may need to close Kodi (using the power button, not Control+F4) and re-open it in order for these tweaks to work.
There are a lot of options here, so dive in and play with it until you find something you like. You can really make your home screen feel like your own, without changing themes.
Change the Interface Color
Finally, you can change the color overlay of the entire skin. To do this, we need to head back to the System Settings screen, this time selecting “Interface Settings.”
Here, you’ll find the option to change the skin’s color, which gives you a variety of options.
If you really really love the color orange, that option is available. I’m sure lots of people are happy about that.
Perhaps you prefer green? Go with that.
And I used purple in a screenshot above. You get the idea.
You can also change, or disable, the interface’s sounds from this panel, or even add a custom RSS feed (we recommend this one, obviously.)
We think Estuary is a beautiful Kodi skin, but are also pleasantly surprised with how customizable it is. Sure, you can’t add a mess of widgets to the home screen, but you’ve got a lot of flexibility to make it work the way you want it to, and look the way you want it to as well. Dive in and see what you can come up with!
Forget Aura! The Titan Bingie Mode skin for Kodi brings you the best Netflix experience to Kodi. People will think it’s actually Netflix!
I posted earlier about the Aura skin, claiming that it brought the best Netflix experience to Kodi. While the Aura skin is a great skin, I now have to retract my claim because Titan Bingie Mode is so much better of a Netflix clone UI (user interface) for Kodi. It’s so good that people might not notice that it’s Kodi and not actually Netflix.

Here are some screenshots to show what it looks like…

First things first, this skin only works with Kodi 18 Leia. If you are still using the older Kodi 17 Krypton, you will need to update Kodi in order to use this skin.

- You can leave the name of the source as “repository.bingie”
Bingie Repo File Source
- Now, go to Settings > Add-ons and select Install from zip file.

Titan Bingie Mode Skin Dependencies
- Once it finishes installing, it will ask you if you want to switch to the new skin. Select Yes.
How to Configure Titan Bingie Mode Skin for the Best Experience
Right out of the box, this skin does not look very good with the default settings, but the good news is that you’ll have it configured and looking awesome in no time!
A tip before we get started… clicking the back button on your remote or backspace key on your keyboard while on the home screen will bring up this side panel so you can get to the settings.
Change the Homescreen Layout
- Go to Settings > Skin settings.
Skin Settings In Titan Bingie Mode Skin
- Go to Homescreen layout > Homescreen layout.
Titan Bingie Mode Homescreen Layout
- Change your homescreen layout to Netflix bingie MODE.
Netflix Bingie Mode Homescreen Layout
Configure Menu Widgets
Each row of the Netflix-style interface is a widget that is part of a menu item. This actual menu item shortcuts are only accessible from that slide-out side panel, but the homescreen layout displays the widgets that are associated with the menu items. You will need to set up each of those widgets to start filling in rows of content to browse through. The beauty of it is that you can configure these widgets to point deep inside of Kodi streaming add-ons like Exodus, etc.
- In the Skin Settings, go to Configure shortcuts > Edit menu shortcuts.
Titan Bingie Mode Configure Shortcuts Edit Menu Shortcuts
- With the first menu item highlighted on the left, move to the right and select Widgets.
Menu Item Widgets
- Here you can configure up to 8 widgets for each menu item. For example, if you followed my Ultimate Kodi Setup, you can configure one widget to show your Exodus – New Episodes from your Trakt Progress.
Select A Menu Item Widget
Note that you can change the layout of each widget to be Landscape vs Poster, and even Landscape Small.
Here’s what it looks like after switching that widget to Poster.
By default when you are browsing around through shows, seasons, and episodes, it will be using the default view which doesn’t look very good. First play around with the views using the side panel when viewing these things. Then, you can set your forced views for different types of content.
In the Skin Settings > Forced views, you can enable force views and then set TV Shows to Netflix, and set Seasons and Episodes to Wide Netflix.
Change the Color Theme
So far, all of these screenshots have been using the default blue color theme, but you can change it to the Netflix red, black, and gray colors called the Bingie MODE Color Theme.
- Go to Skin Settings > Color Themes.
Now, your home screen should look something like this (with the red instead of blue).
Troubleshooting Issues With Titan Bingie Mode
If you get a failed to install a dependency error having to do with script.module.cherrypy, then try this.
Go back to and select: Add-on browser > Install from repository > Bingie Repository > Context Menus > Skin Helper Service > Install (or Update)
If the above method didn’t work, then you can install the Marcelveldt Repo manually.
To install the Marcelveldt Repo, download this file to your device, https://github.com/kodi-community-addons/repository.marcelveldt/raw/master/repository.marcelveldt/repository.marcelveldt-1.0.1.zip and then go to Settings > Add-ons > Install from zip file, and then browse to this file that you downloaded.
Fix Titan Bingie Mode Stuck on Black Screen
I had this happen on just one of my devices where I tested this skin. Later on, I got a comment from someone else who had the same thing.
If you find yourself in this situation where you have no way to get back in the settings, there is a little trick. If you hold the back button, a bottom slide-out menu should appear letting you select the setting cog to get back into the settings.
When I had this happen, I didn’t give up. I went back into the skin settings and played around with it for a little while until things worked properly. Specifically, check the optional add-ons you can install from the “Supported Addons” menu. Also, under “Configure shortcuts“, there is a “Reset menu items” link which might help as well.
