You may receive hundreds of emails in your inbox every day from different sources. Due to some annoying emails (especially those cheap offers, spam and promotional messages), it become hard to find important emails. And if your account is associated with Facebook, you’ll get all of its notifications in your inbox which have nothing to do there.

By default, Facebook will send you all types notifications via email. For example, you’ll get an email message when someone will like your post, comment on it, follow you or send you a friend request. On the other hand, you’ll be notified with all group activities when your friends will post new content or when they’ll reply to your comment. Apart from this, Facebook also send login alerts and other account security & privacy related emails.

It’s a tedious task to select, filter out and delete multiple items one by one. Most of the time, I was busy in removing all those useless mails. Doing this, you may also delete some of your important business messages by mistake. Now it’s time to say goodbye to all your Facebook email notifications as in this tutorial, I will guide you how to turn them off permanently. It will be a great relief for you and your inbox will look more clean and organized.

There are two methods by which you can turn off all annoying notifications from your Facebook account. Both of them are listed below –

From Facebook settings

Simply follow these steps –

First of all, login to your Facebook account and click drop-down arrow icon at the top-right corner of the screen (the same button from where you logout the account).

How to disable your facebook email

  • From the menu list, click “Settings” option.
  • Now move to “Notifications” tab.

How to disable your facebook email

After thus, click “Edit” link next to the “Email” option.

  • Under “What you’ll receive” section, you’ll find three options. Select “Only notifications about your account, security and privacy” option and you’ve done it.
  • From the same page, you can also manage other notifications for Facebook itself, Google Chrome’s push notifications and mobile text messages.

After this, you’ll not receive those annoying emails in your inbox anymore. Note that, Facebook may send you account security and privacy notifications occasionally. As those messages are important, so you don’t need to worry about them. At least, email frequency will be decreased.

However, you can disable login email alerts. To do that, again go to the settings page and move to the “Security” tab. Now click the edit link next to the “Login alerts” section. After this, select “Don’t get email alerts” option under Email section and finally tap “Save changes” button to confirm.

How to disable your facebook email

You can also block email notifications for individual Facebook group. To do so, first select “All notifications, except the ones you unsubscribe from” option for email notifications and then open the group. Now click “Notifications” button as shown in below picture.

From the drop-down menu, you can either change it to “Friends posts” only or complete turn them off by selecting “off” option. Apart from this, you can leave all such groups which are no longer in use and create unnecessary nuisance.

    Directly from the inbox

Using this method, you can unsubscribe specific email notifications manually. To do so, first login to your email account (such as Google or Yahoo) and check its inbox. Here find the email notification from your Facebook account and open it.

Now scroll down to the bottom of the email and you’ll find a message note as – “This email was sent to [your email address here]. If you don’t want to receive these emails from Facebook in the future, please unsubscribe“. (See below picture)

How to disable your facebook email

Simply click “unsubscribe” link here and follow on-screen instructions. This will automatically block your Facebook email notifications instantly. Do this for other type of emails also and you’ve done it.

In this way, you can easily turn off all email notifications coming from your Facebook account. Both these methods work perfectly on desktop and mobile platform. If you’re facing any problem, please let me know in below comment box. Stay tuned for more interesting tutorials.

By default, every Facebook user has a facebook.com email address, whether he likes using it or not. Any email sent to the facebook.com email address of a user lands up in the messages folder and can be found from the search box by typing “is:email”.

The problem with a Facebook.com email address is that the address is not private, as anyone can guess the address through the vanity URL of your Facebook account. For example, if your Facebook account URL is facebook.com/abc, your facebook.com email address would be [email protected]

Until today, Facebook users had the ability to show their primary or secondary email addresses on their profile information section, instead of showing their facebook.com email address, which I don’t consider as a real email address anyway. Shy users often tweaked the visibility of their profile information section to “Private” or “Friends only” so that their real email address is hidden from spammers and random strangers, who might try to extract contact information from their Facebook profile.

Yesterday, Facebook has changed how email addresses are displayed on your Facebook profile. The change does two things :

    • Your primary and secondary email addresses that are tied to your Facebook account are no longer shown on the “Contact info” section of your Facebook profile. Instead, your publicly view-able email address has been replaced by your unique Facebook.com email address.
    • Your primary and secondary email addresses are still tied to your Facebook account, it is just that Facebook has decided not to show it on the “Contact Info” section of your Facebook profile or timeline.

Remove Facebook.com Email Address From Your Facebook Profile / Timeline

    1. To replace the Facebook.com email address with a custom email address of your choice, go to your Facebook timeline and click on the “About” section. Next click the “Edit” button on the top right corner of “Contact Info” section, an example is shown below:

How to disable your facebook email

    2. Click the “circle” button placed next to your Facebook.com email address and from the drop-down menu that appears, choose “Hidden from Timeline”. The default option from yesterday is “Shown on Timeline” so if you want to hide your Facebook.com email address, you have to choose the other option.

    4. Right above your Facebook.com email address, you will see your primary and secondary email addresses listed one after another (this also includes the email address you have used to sign up for Facebook). Click the circle icon and you can choose to show your primary email address on your Facebook profile or you may also choose to keep email address hidden on Facebook.

If you ask me, I prefer showing at least one Gmail.com address on my Facebook timeline so that anyone can get in touch or send me a message. It is also worth noting that you should choose the email visibility as “Public” and not “Only me”.

How To Delete An Email ID From Facebook

At first, you need to go to the Settings and visit the General tab. Here you can find a section called Contact. Expand this section and find out the email ID that you want to remove. Following that, click the respective Remove button and verify your entry by entering your account password.

When you create a Facebook account, you can enter a contact email address to receive notifications. If you no longer use the email address that you entered when you created your account, you can swap it for another one at any time. Modifying your Facebook email is simple, and you can do it from your computer or your mobile device.

Select it as your main address, and click Save Changes.

N.B. You will receive a confirmation email at the new address you have added. Please note that you will not be able to log in to Facebook with your new address until you open the email that has been sent to you and confirm the change.

If you have more than one email address associated with your account, the notifications will be received at the one that you have chosen as the primary address on the General Account Settings page.

For many people, there is a sense of hypocrisy about receiving well wishes on their birthday from people they hardly know. Facebook notifies all your friends of your birthday by default, which doesn’t help this matter. Beyond the perceived insincerity, there are good reasons to hide your birthday on Facebook altogether. Your birth date is a piece of data that identity thieves will readily look for, and maybe you just don’t want to remind people of your age.

How to disable your facebook email

Whatever the reason may be, stopping the notifications to your friend’s feeds is a simple process. In this article, you’ll learn to do it on the mobile app and on desktop browsers. Furthermore, if you’re fed up with receiving notifications about other people’s birthdays, you can learn to remove that feature as well.

Turning Off Birthday Notifications on Desktop

The process won’t be too different whether you’re working on a desktop or mobile device. We’re starting with the desktop process, but feel free to use whichever you have on hand.

The first thing you should do is log in to your Facebook account. You’ll land on your news feed. From there, follow these steps:

    1. Click on your name at the top of the page, directly to the right of the search bar.
    2. On your profile page, click on the About button, right below your cover photo.
    3. In the overview of the About section, click on Contact and Basic Info.
How to disable your facebook email
    4. Scroll down to Basic Information and click on Edit, which appears when you hover your mouse over your Birth Date.
How to disable your facebook email
    5. Once you click on Edit, click on the group icon, which looks like a silhouette of three people. This will reveal the privacy menu, where you can select who can view your birthday as well as who will receive notifications about it. If you want to completely hide it, select Only Me.
    6. Click the Save Changes
How to disable your facebook email

By following these steps, you’ve effectively made your birthday invisible to Facebook users other than yourself. No one will receive notifications about your birthday, nor will anyone be able to see it. Now, on to the mobile version.

Turning Off Birthday Notifications on Mobile

You’re going to start the process this time by launching the Facebook app on your phone. The app isn’t required, and you can use the steps outlined above in a mobile browser as well. Once the app is launched, follow these steps:

    1. The first page you see is your news feed. Tap on your profile picture, which is to the left of the search bar.
    2. On your profile page, tap on the button labeled Edit Profile.
How to disable your facebook email
    3. Scroll all the way down on the editing page and tap on Edit Your About Info.
    4. Under Basic Info, find your birthday and tap on the pencil icon next to it.
    5. Click on the group icon next to your birthday to reveal the privacy menu and select Only Me. You may have to tap on More Options if the option isn’t displayed.
How to disable your facebook email

As you can see, the two procedures are similar, and neither should take more than a minute to complete. Now, if you don’t want to receive notifications about other people’s birthdays, you can turn that off as well.

    Turning Off Friends’ Birthday Notifications

Sometimes a birthday notification creates a sense of obligation to respond, and that can get irritating. To stop receiving notifications for birthdays, access your Facebook settings page. You can do this by clicking the down arrow on the top bar of your Facebook page or by accessing the Settings page directly.

Click on Notifications in the left sidebar menu and scroll down to Birthdays. Expand the Birthdays section and toggle off notifications. You will no longer receive any notifications about birthdays from Facebook.

Happy Birthday to You, and Only You

Turning off or hiding your birthday on Facebook serves many purposes. The process is rather simple and straightforward. All you have to do is access your About page and change the privacy settings to prohibit access to anyone but yourself. You can do it from any browser or the Facebook app. While you’re at it, you can quickly turn off notifications about other people’s birthdays if you’re so inclined.

Why do you want your birthday to be hidden from friends? Do you think it’s a safety issue if people have easy access to your birth date information? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Your relationship with Facebook can sometimes feel like your relationship with your Facebook friends. Sure, when the relationship first started it was great, but over the years things change, and sometimes you wonder why you keep things and people in your life. Do the hundreds of individuals you’ve friended over the years need access to your wedding photos? For that matter does a billion-dollar company like Facebook?

Maybe privacy concerns aren’t what’s making you consider leaving, after all, there are plenty of great reasons to deactivate your Facebook account. Perhaps you’re sick of political arguments or tiresome memes. Maybe it just takes up too much of your time. No matter what your reasons if you need to take a break from Facebook, either short term or long term, it’s easy to deactivate your account.

When it comes to deactivating your Facebook account, you have two options of varying severity: deactivation and deletion.

    READ MORE:

If you deactivate your Facebook account, your profile won’t be visible to other Facebook users, and no one, not even your friends, will be able to search for you. Friends will still be able to read messages you sent them, but that’s it. This is your best option if you’re just looking to take a break from Facebook. You can always reactivate your account, and when you do, you’ll have access again to all of your friends and photos.

Deleting your account, by contrast, is much more severe. While a simple deactivation can be done from the account menu on Facebook, deletion can only be done actively contacting Facebook and asking them to destroy your account. The full deletion process can take up to 90 days to complete, but when Facebook is done, all of your information will be deleted off of your account. The only thing left will be the messages you’ve sent other users over the years. You don’t get to remove their memories of you, no matter how embarrassing the message you wrote after that breakup was.

If you’re ready to move forward, here’s how to to it.

How to back up your Facebook data

Before you delete or deactivate your account, we suggest backing up a copy of your information. You can download your information from Facebook from the Settings menu. Inside your download, you’ll find your timeline information, posts you shared, messages, photos, apps you were using, alternate names, deleted friends, and more.

    1) Click the upside-down triangle at the top right of your Facebook page and select Settings.

    2) When you arrive at the Settings menu, click the Download a copy of your Facebook data link at the bottom of General Account Settings.

    3) Click Start My Archive, sit back, and relax.

Now that everything is backed up, it’s time to talk deactivation.

How to deactivate your Facebook account

Remember, deactivation isn’t the same as deletion. The moment you want to get back on Facebook, just enter your password and email to have your account reactivated.

    1) Click the upside-down triangle at the top right of your Facebook page and select the Settings option.

    2) Once you arrive at the Setting page, you should be on the General Settings page. If you don’t see “General Account Settings” at the top of the page, look at the toolbar to your left. Click General.

    3) Once on the General Account Settings page, select the final option: Manage Account.

    4) Manage Account is a fascinating place. Beyond the ability to deactivate or delete your account, Manage Account also lets you select someone to control your Facebook account after you die. Facebook also gives you the option to have your account deleted upon your death. For now, select Deactivate your account.

    5) Confirm your intentions by re-entering your Facebook password and hitting Continue.

Your account will remain deactivated until you log back in with your email and password. Deactivation comes in handy when you need to take a break from Facebook without nuking your whole account. It’s not goodbye, Facebook. It’s see you later.
