How to Start a New Game in Pokemon X & Y

If you’ve picked up a used copy of Pokemon X or Y, or you just want to start over on your adventure, you’ll need to know how to start a new game. In recent Pokemon titles, the option to simply start a new game from the menu has disappeared, and you’ll instead only be able to continue the progress of the current save file.

As such, you’ll need to delete and format Pokemon X or Y first before you can start over. To do this, once you’ve reached the title screen press Up on the D-pad, B, and X all at the same time. This should then ask you if you’d like to delete the existing save file. Confirm that this is what you want to do and the game will reboot. Once you reach the title screen this time around, you should have the option to start a new game in Pokemon X & Y.

If you’re having problems when entering the button sequence, try entering it as the opening cutscenes are playing, as some players have reported to have had more success this way.

That’s all you need to know to start a new game in Pokemon X & Y. Now get out there and catch ’em all!

More on Pokemon X & Y

Pokemon X & Y are the sixth installments in the immensely popular Pokemon series, taking players to the region of Kalos. Wannabe trainers will have the option of three entirely new starter Pokemon to choose from, as they embark on a quest to defeat the Pokemon League and become the Champion. Of course, just like every other Pokemon game, players will have to thwart the plans of the criminal gang known as Team Flare. Top it all off with 3D visuals that help to bring the Paris-inspired region of Kalos to life and you’ve got a recipe for another excellent Pokemon adventure.

Pokemon has been around for fifteen years now, and many modern PokeFans, myself included, have been playing the series since its original North American release in 1998. Back then I recall Pokemon Red and Blue being much more difficult than Pokemon is today–the Elite Four’s Agatha, with her Gengar, springs to mind as notoriously hard to beat–but much of that difficulty probably had to do with age. I was only nine years old, after all. Now, however, I have little trouble clearing every Pokemon game, most recently Pokemon X and Y, which I found to be the easiest Pokemon adventure I’ve ever gone on.

Part of the problem is, as an adult, it’s easy to figure out Pokemon’s elemental system and exploit the hundreds of trainers you fight during the course of any given Pokemon adventure. Furthermore, Game Freak and Nintendo are reluctant to add a proper higher difficulty to these games. Of course, the Pokemon games are known for being customizable to the player’s experience, so it’s quite easy to add a few self-imposed rules to make each adventure more challenging and therefore more engaging.

Below are six ways to make Pokemon X and Y more difficult. I’ve found they work well; be that as it may, if you ramp up the difficulty in some other way, let us know in the comments!

This game sucks it is just some game that replaced the sprites of the Pokémon and a mega lucario in the wild WHAT THE HECK. Do you think some person would even use that froggie any more? The starters are dumb and the gym are way to easy to be fun anymore THIS IS JUST POKÉMON EMERALD JUST DIFFERENT TEXTURES FIX IT SO ITS NOT LIKE THAT

Silver 26.07.2020 0:40:40

It loses my progress but the op Pokemon makes up for that if it did save my progress I would be so glad but overall it actually runs unlike other games the battles don’t break it and it runs real smooth

Coke or sprite? Scrambled or sunny side up? Paragon or renegade? The world is full of difficult existential questions, and while you’re on your own/SOL with most of them, we here at Kotaku would like to offer a helping hand in choosing between Pokemon X & Pokemon Y.

Some context, before we talk specifics: traditionally, the main Pokemon games release in two versions. Each version has creatures that the other version doesn’t have, and this is partially done to encourage people to play Pokemon with their friends, and partially because, let’s be real, Nintendo/Game Freak probably make more money that way.

The number of version-specific Pokemon has varied from one gen to the next, and honestly? In this latest iteration, there aren’t too many version-specific Pokemon. Even if there were, the ease in which you can trade Pokemon with other people online means you don’t have to worry too much about missing out on specific Pokemon.

Still, there are some differences between Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. I won’t list all of the differences because that’d be spoiling the game, but let’s compare the major Pokemon differences you should consider before purchasing, shall we? Most of these concern version-specific Mega Evolutions, which are temporary power-ups that some Pokemon can undergo in battle.

Here’s Mega Charizard From Pokemon Y on the left, and Mega Charizard from Pokemon X on the right:

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

The differences: Charizard X changes from a fire and flying type Pokemon to a fire and dragon type Pokemon. Charizard Y, meanwhile, sees its special attack stat increase significantly, and gains the ability called “drought.” Drought increases the power of fire-type moves.

Here’s Mega Mewtwo from Pokemon X on the left, and Mega Mewtwo from Pokemon Y on the right:

The differences: Mega Mewtwo Y increases its special attack significantly and it gains the “insomnia” ability—as it suggests, this ability prevents Mewtwo from falling asleep. Mega Mewtwo X, meanwhile, becomes psychic/fighting type, and its attack stat increases. In addition, it also gains the “steadfast” ability, which increases its speed whenever it flinches in battle.

And now, the legendaries.

Here’s Xerneas from Pokemon X on the left, and Yveltal from Pokemon Y on the right:

The differences: Xerneas is a deer-like fairy Pokemon with the “fairy aura” ability—which increases the damage of fairy-type attacks for all Pokemon in the battle. Yveltal, meanwhile, is a dark/flying type Pokemon with the “dark aura” ability—which increases the damage dealt by dark type attacks for all Pokemon on the field.

The last question you’ve gotta ask yourself before purchasing is: which letter do you like better, X or Y? Yes, I know that sounds silly, but trust me, it matters! People will ask you what version you got; it’s like picking a sports team. That’s part of what makes it all so fun, even if there aren’t too many differences between the versions. UPDATE: based purely on anecdotal evidence, if you want to be a cool kid, you should pick Pokemon Y. most people seem to be getting Pokemon X.

With all of this in mind, you should be able to choose between the versions easily. So then! Now that we’re here. which version will you be getting? Personally, I think Pokemon X has most of the cooler Pokemon, but hey. That’s just like, my opinion, man.

Sure, the world of Pokémon is kind and charming. but that doesn’t mean you can’t step your game up a little while playing. You wanna be the very best, like no one ever was, right? We’re here to help you with that.

Here are some things you should do or keep in mind while playing Pokémon X & Y. Some are general Pokémon tips. Some are more X & Y specific. I hope they help!

Play With Whatever Pokemon You’d Like

There are over 700 Pokémon. That’s a TON of choices. Technically not all these Pokémon are competitively viable, but for the sake of the single-player adventure? Most/any will do the trick, provided you’ve leveled up enough. There’s no reason not to play with the Pokémon you think are cool or cute, that’s the point of having so many of them in the roster! Granted, you can still be smart about using your favorite Pokémon.

Side note: since this game gives you two starters—one from the new generation, and one from the original generation—you might want to coordinate between them. If you have your eyes set on Charizard, for example, it might not make sense to pick the fire starter at the beginning of the game!

Which brings us to.

Be Smart About How You Use Those Pokemon

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

The key is diversifying. You can do this on a team level and on a moveset level too. All Pokémon belong to different types of groups—some of that is based on an element, like water or fire, and others are based on their characteristics, like flying creatures. If you have a move that matches your Pokémon’s type—say, a fire move on a fire Pokémon—it’ll be more powerful than moves of a different type. Pokemon veterans call this bonus “STAB,” same type attack bonus. Despite that bonus, you don’t want to have a Pokemon with 4 moves of the same type—a fire Pokémon with 4 fire type moves, for example. The less you have to switch a Pokémon out to match the various types of enemies, the better—and having a Pokémon with a few different move types helps with that. So as an example: my Sliggoo is a dragon type, and it has one dragon move, one water move, one electric move, and one ice move. It’s not the best spread, but it lets me take care of a good number of Pokemon. If Sliggoo had 4 dragon type moves, or even 2 or 3 dragon type moves, I limit the number of Pokémon I can be effective against. Not the best situation!

Something I seen suggested somewhere was only allowing one Pokemon to evolve for each gym badge you have.

With a few other rules thrown in, that might give you a challenge.

User Info: erekwashere15

A run where none of your Pokemon can have a STAB or TM move.

Possibly have none of your Pokemon evolve to their final stage.

Im doing an Egglocke and its really hard even though ive gotten some decent eggs.Ive been playing 14 hours and only have 2 badges and ive lost 3 partys of pokemon.

My rules are:
1.Starter pokemon must be traded for an egg and released.

2.Only 1 pokemon per route/area and that pokemon must be traded for an egg and released.

3.No experiance share and no grinding against wild pokemon.

4.Any pokemon who faints is “dead” must be released.

5.No duplicate hatched pokemon, they must be released.Only exception is when your other one is dead and you hatch another after.

6.If all pokemon are dead and all eggs are gone, you lose.

Since i don’t level up any pokemon left in the PC,i always make an exception of the grinding rule untill im 5 levels below trainer/gym leader pokemon.

After defeating the elite four you must gather the badges again while having a level restriction on before you can re-challenge the elite four.

Or start your pokemon journey again with a new starter and the national dex to help you. You can use your previously caught pokemon while in the gym battle phase. The gym battles are more harder than the first time through meaning more levelling and training will be needed.

I’ve never done it before for original Pokemon Sapphire and never did it for Black 2 or even Pokemon x but I’m gonna do something weird fir Alpha Sapphire.

Gonna have a Bug pokemon as my main Starter. Sounds crazy but creative. Not gonna use Hera or Pinsir

I just might use Scolipede as my Bug Starter

User Info: GhostCrysis

Have only 3 Pokemon.

Must catch a Pokemon the moment you are given Pokeballs.

Must discard starter Pokemon.

No recovery potions/revives.

If a Pokemon faints, discard it and catch a new one.

HM Fly is forbidden.

No trades/poke bank.

Breeding is allowed, however the parents must be discarded once egg has arrived.

If you’re a fan of Avatar the Last Airbender and/or Legend of Korra:

Choose a nation: Water, Earth, Fire, or Air
You can now only use types associated with your nation:

Water – Water, Ice, Grass, Poison
Earth – Ground, Rock, Fighting, Steel
Fire – Fire, Electric, Dark, Dragon
Air – Flying, Bug, Psychic, Ghost

Anyone can use Normal.
(This was made before Gen 6, so I don’t know where Fairy would fit in.)

You may use dual-types as long as one of the types belongs to your nation. For example, Blaziken may be used by either the Earth or Fire nation. However, the Earth nation may only use a Torchic if they plan on evolving it (so that it gains the secondary Fighting type).

I tried this once on Ruby playing as the Air nation, and Wattson destroyed me. I couldn’t do anything to his Magneton.

I’d say Bug would probably swap out for Fairy now, or else Fairy would just be fair game (heh) for every nation like Normal.

After beating Pokemon X or Pokemon Y , your first thought may involve selling the game for store credit or tossing it into a drawer. In the words of Capcom lawyer Phoenix Wright, “Hold it!” There’s still plenty to do in Nintendo’s epic 3DS adventure, so don’t let it collect dust without completing these 18 bonus objectives.

Trade Pokemon with your friend Shauna

She’s waiting for you outside your home in Vaniville Town. In fact, she’ll accept whatever Pokemon you wish to trade, in exchange for her Chespin if you chose Fennekin at the start of the game, Fennekin if you chose Froakie or Froakie if you selected Chespin.

Visit the Sycamore Pokemon Lab to Pick Up the Poke Radar

While in Lumiose City, stop by the Sycamore Lab on South Boulevard and talk to a lab assistant on the second floor to get the Poke Radar. This handy device lets you search tall grass for wild battle monsters of the same species. Pretty cool.

Trade Pokemon with Diantha

The former Kalos region champ is willing to trade her Ralts for any type of Pokemon. Even better, this Ralts has a Gardevoirite. To meet her, visit Café Soleil on South Boulevard.

Get the last O-Power

Providing you learned the available O-Powers from Mr. Bonding, visit Café Introversion and obtain the Hatching Power.

Enter Sushi High Roller

The champ is here! The champ is here! The staff will finally let you step inside this swanky restaurant, located north of Rouge Plaza.

Partake in a Battle Test

All of the Battle Tests are readily available at the Battle Institute located on North Boulevard. This is more than simple training. You’ll earn prizes and BP.

Snag the National Pokedex

Go to Lumiose Station and speak with Sina and Dexio. They’ll update your Pokedex, transforming it into the National Pokedex. Now you can register even more Pokemon!

Tip: While inside Lumiose Station, track down Professor Sycamore. He’ll give you a TMV pass to Kiloude City. Hop aboard a train and check out this area.

Get a Max Revive inside Kiloude Station

A youngster will quiz you on Pokemon. Select the correct answer to score a Max Revive. No pressure. You can guess as many times as you’d like.

Tip: Headed to the Pokemon Center in Kiloude City? If so, stop by the house on the way and show the woman a Pokemon that knows the Petal Blizzard move to get another Max Revive.

Get the Vs. Recorder

Once you exit Kiloude Station, a man will present you with the Vs. Recorder. This helpful device lets you record Battle Videos against players and make them public online for other gamers to watch. You can even retry battles you recorded!

Talk to the Judge at the Pokemon Center in Kiloude City

The honorable one will size up any of your Pokemon and tell you which stats are powerful or weak. Do you have several Pokemon of the same species? He’ll let you know which one has the best potential.

Grab the TM91 Flash Cannon

Don’t leave Kiloude City yet. Visit the southeast house and talk to the kid upstairs to get this special device. Now you can teach a Pokemon a Steel-type special move.

Now you’re ready to get the TM58 Sky Drop

Check out one of the northwest homes in Kiloude City. The girl who lives there will hook you up with the TM58. This two-stage maneuver lifts an opponent into the air, where it can’t take action until it falls to the ground the following turn.

Visit the Battle Maison

Located in the center of Kiloude City, the Battle Maison lets you partake in single, double, triple and rotation battles. You can also team up with friends for multi battles. Reach win-streak milestones for special prizes.

Go on a Friend Safari in Kiloude City

Register friends to go on special Friend Safaris, where you have a chance to capture Pokemon from previous games. This frees you up from the hassle of transferring and trading.

Visit Anistar City for a Mega Stone surprise

Complete one battle in the Battle Maison, and you’ll run into Serena or Calem near the north pond in Kiloude City. Defeat him or her and you’ll receive a message from Professor Sycamore asking you to visit Anistar City near a sundial. Doing this reveals some interesting information about Mega Stones. Even better, you can now use your Mega Ring to track down Mega Stones between 8:00PM and 9:00PM every day.

Visit the Lonely Old Man in Anistar City

There’s a good chance you lent an old man a Pokemon long ago. While in Anistar City, visit his home. He’s gone, but you can reclaim that Pokemon, read a thank you letter and obtain a Comet Shard. Nice guy, right?

Capture Zygarde in Terminus Cave

This elusive Pokemon is ready to fight! Look for it while heading to the last floor of Terminus Cave, and prepare for one of the toughest battles yet, thanks to its Earthquake and Dragon Pulse moves. Weaken the critter just enough, and you might capture it.

Catch Legendary Pokemon in Azure Bay

By all means, soak up some sun while visiting this popular vacation spot. When you’re ready for business, check out the Sea Spirit’s Den at the north end of Azure Bay. There, you’ll have a unique opportunity to catch Legendary Pokemon Articuno, Zapdos or Moltres.

Gamers cannot succeed with Water types alone.

If you wish to become a Pokemon X and Y master, need help getting past a certain gym leader or beating the Pokemon league, you’ve come to the right place. This advanced tips guide provides hints to becoming a champion.

Before you get started with the Advanced Tips, be sure to check out the Top Eight Mistakes New Players Make and read Prima’s Pokemon X and Y Beginner’s Tips .

Now you’re ready to jump in . . .

How to Create the best Pokemon Party

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

In the beginner’s guide , you’ll read about Pokemon types and how critical it is to learn strengths and weaknesses. As you progress through Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, you will encounter every Pokemon type somewhere in the game. You’re free to use whichever Pokemon looks appealing, but skilled trainers have many different kinds of Pokemon in their parties instead of limiting themselves to being Water trainers or Bug trainers.

If you are strictly a Bug type trainer, you will have a tough time going up against a trainer who has even one strong Fire type. Diversifying your Pokemon portfolio will give you multiple options to tackle various situations.

Several Pokemon are also dual type Pokemon, which means they have two different types. Charizard is a dual type Flying and Fire Pokemon. That means it can use both Fire and Flying attacks. That gives it an advantage over other Fire types, but it’s also weak against types that dominate Fire and Flying.

This gives trainers another element of strategy to consider while training certain kinds of Pokemon. While super effective attacks give you double damage, a dual type Pokemon susceptible to other types results in quadruple damage. This also applies to ineffective attacks against dual types, which will reduce the attack to a fourth of the damage.

For example, if a Water type attacks a Ground and Rock type Onix, it will receive quadruple damage because both types are weak to Water. Again, it is extremely important to have different types of Pokemon at your disposal.

In addition, it’s a great idea to diversify your Pokemon’s individual move sets. A Pokemon is much more effective when it has many different kinds of attacks. Blastoise is a Water type Pokemon. Giving Blastoise only Water type attacks is not the best idea. Instead, teach it other move types. Teaching it a Ground attack, like Earthquake, and an Ice attack, like Blizzard, along with Water type moves will help it defend against Electric or Grass types, respectively.

Furthermore, you need to always think offensively and defensively when it comes to choosing your Pokemon’s move set, especially since you can only teach your Pokemon up to four moves at one time. Try many different combinations of types and Pokemon to see which are the most effective.

How to Level Up Pokemon

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Another important thing to remember is to equally train all the Pokemon in your party. Having only one or two high level Pokemon in your party while the others are vastly lower is an ineffective way to train. If your top Pokemon gets knocked out, you are left without another high-level Pokemon to carry the load and you are doomed to lose the battle. By giving each of your Pokemon an equal opportunity to gain EXP and level up, you have a well-rounded party, and any of your Pokemon will be able to win a battle.

There are many items that will increase your Pokemon’s base stats and level. Throughout your journey, you may find rare candy. By giving Pokemon rare candy, it will increase the creature’s level by one, but its stats will not increase as much as it would through training. You can also give your Pokemon items like iron, protein, carbos, calcium and zinc to increase your Pokemon’s individual stats.

Thankfully, leveling up your battle monsters in Pokemon X and Y is easier than ever. In many Pokemon games, there’s an item called EXP share, which you can give to any of your Pokemon to hold and they would get EXP from the battle even if they didn’t join. In Pokemon X and Y, EXP share gives each Pokemon in your party EXP points. This helps individual Pokemon level up with less battling.

How to Evolve Pokemon

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Many Pokemon in the Pokemon universe either evolve or have evolved. After a Pokemon evolves it’s usually stronger. Some Pokemon even gain a type after evolving. For instance, when Dragonair evolves into Dragonite, it becomes a Flying type as well as a Dragon type.

Some moves can only be learned when a Pokemon is in its basic form. Pikachu learns moves like agility and quick attack, but cannot learn those if it evolves into Raichu too quickly.

With this in mind, there are many different ways to evolve Pokemon. Some Pokemon require other methods, like using evolution stones, leveling up in certain areas, through trade and holding specific items.

The most famous evolution Pokemon is Eevee. Eevee has many different evolutions that can be obtained in different ways. The newest “Eeveelution” is the fairy type Sylveion.

New to the series are the Mega Evolutions. Only certain Pokemon can Mega evolve, like Blastoise, Charizard, Venasaur, Mewtwo and more. Mega Evolved Pokemon are some of the strongest in the game. You can only Mega Evolve in battle, and your Pokemon reverts back after said battle concludes. On top of that, you need certain stones to Mega Evolve your Pokemon, so be on the lookout.

There is no exact method to successful Pokemon training. Everyone has his or her own favorite path and personal preferences. Through trial and error, however, you’ll eventually dominate battles and become a Pokemon legend.

Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are currently available for Nintendo 3DS.

Pokémon Sword and Shield is filled with creatures of all shapes and sizes from the various Eevee evolutions, sentient lamps, and giant fighting cakes. But which are the best and strongest Pokémon?

We looked at all the creatures in the Pokédex and compiled a list of the top five per type that will help you land the most devastating, super effective attacks. When used in tandem with our Pokémon Sword and Shield strength and weakness chart, you’ll be able to use our guide below to quickly pick Pokémon that have several reliable and strong moves based on their type.

The following lists will display five Pokémon per type with high attack stats and more than one strong and useful move per type. Not only that, these Pokémon will have complimentary abilities that will make them useful in Pokémon battles.

We’ve also left off legendaries or any other Pokémon that would be difficult to catch or evolve. Each of these Pokémon will have a good array of moves in their type before level 50, making them all good candidates to bring you into the end game and beyond.

The locations of each are listed. In circumstances where the final evolution doesn’t spawn in the wild, an earlier evolution’s location is listed.

If you want to be the very best, like no one ever was, the first step is to master these Pokéfacts.

1. The first Pokémon ever was not who you ‘ d expect.

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

(Pokémon via 4Kids Entertainment)

It wasn ‘ t a cute Pokémon mascot, like Pikachu or Squirtle, or one of the more powerful creatures, like Charizard or Mewtwo.

The first Pokémon ever designed was actually rock and ground-type Rhydon. The Rhydon statues found throughout the games are a little tribute to it!

2. What does ” Pokémon ” really mean?

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

(via Game Freak)

Some people think that ” Pokémon ” is a Japanese word. It ‘ s not.

3. There ‘ s a way to tell male and female Pikachus apart.

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

(Pokémon via 4Kids Entertainment)

Notice the subtle difference in their tails. The boys have a sharp-edged tail, while the girls ‘ tails end in a sweetheart shape.

4. Pikachu wasn ‘ t always going to be Pokémon ‘ s mascot.

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

(Pokémon via 4Kids Entertainment)

It ‘ s hard to imagine a world where Pikachu isn ‘ t the most famous Pokémon in the world but, believe it or not, the puffy pink Clefairy was originally going to be the one whose name might become synonymous with the Pokémon brand.

Things changed when Ash ‘ s starter in the Pokémon anime switched from Clefairy to Pikachu at the last minute. Soon, the little electric mouse was so popular that it had to become the figurehead for the company.

5. Ditto might be a failed clone of Mew.

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

(Pokémon via 4Kids Entertainment)

Mew and Ditto are both pink, weigh 8.8 lbs., are genderless and can use the move ” Transform ” to take on the form of other Pokémon.

The Pokémon Mewtwo is said to be the only successful clone of Mew, implying that there must have been failed attempts. Plus, these cloning experiments took place on Cinnabar Island, where Ditto can be caught.

Coincidence? We think not.

6. Pokémon have been featured on real money.

These coins, worth one Niue dollar, featured Charmander, Meowth, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and of course, Pikachu.

7. The most-sought after Pokémon card of the ‘ 90s is still the most valuable one.

If you happen to have a first edition holographic Charizard card lying around, you ‘ re about to be faced with a very tough decision.

You can either keep it—it is a collector ‘ s item, after all—or you can sell it for upwards of $1400. Your choice!

8. Of all Pokémon, Eevee has the highest number of possible evolutions by far.

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

The foxlike normal-type Pokémon Eevee has a staggering eight potential evolutions (known by fans as Eeveelutions). Depending on how it ‘ s raised, Eevee can evolve into a fire, dark, water, fairy, psychic, ice, grass, or electric-type form.

Deciding which one you want to raise is quite the dilemma.

9. How did Pikachu get its name?

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

(Pokémon via 4Kids Entertainment)

Some people think Pikachu is named after rabbit-like rodents called pikas, which live across Asia, North America and Eastern Europe. Not so!

” Pikachu ” is actually a combination of two Japanese onomatopoeias, or words named after the sounds they make. In Japan, the crackle of electricity is said to make a ” pika pika ” sound, and the sound mice make is ” chu. “

Put them together, and you ‘ ve got everyone ‘ s favorite electric-type mouse!

10. In 2014, a betta fish played Pokémon Red on Twitch.

Grayson Hopper the fish unknowingly played this Pokémon game by swimming into different areas of his fishbowl assigned to different in-game commands.

It was slow going, but he did manage to pick a Charmander as his starter, name it AAAABBK, and beat his rival ‘ s Squirtle. Not bad for a fish.

11. Pikachu ‘ s voice actress is a grown woman.

Her name is Ikue Otani and her voice is adorable. Do yourself a favor and watch the video. You ‘ re welcome.

The next installments in the Pokémon game series, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, are releasing this November. Click HERE for a first look at some newly announced Pokémon!

Pokémon, electronic game series from Nintendo that debuted in Japan in February 1996 as Pokémon Green and Pokémon Red. The franchise later became wildly popular in the United States and around the world. The series, originally produced for the company’s Game Boy line of handheld consoles, was introduced in 1998 to the United States with two titles, known to fans as Red and Blue. In the games, players assume the role of Pokémon trainers, obtaining cartoon monsters and developing them to battle other Pokémon. Pokémon became one of the most successful video game franchises in the world, second only to Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros.

The original Pokémon is a role-playing game based around building a small team of monsters to battle other monsters in a quest to become the best. Pokémon are divided into types, such as water and fire, each with different strengths. Battles between them can be likened to the simple hand game rock-paper-scissors. For example, to gain an advantage over a Pokémon that cannot beat an opponent’s Charizard character because of a weakness to fire, a player might substitute a water-based Pokémon. With experience, Pokémon grow stronger, gaining new abilities. By defeating Gym Leaders and obtaining Gym Badges, trainers garner acclaim.

Pikachu, a yellow mouselike creature, is the undisputed face of Pokémon and helped the series become a worldwide phenomenon. Pokémon inspired a cartoon series, movies, books, a toy line, sequels, spin-offs, a clothing line, and a popular trading-card game. In spite of a friendly interface and little violence, Pokémon has not been without controversy, however. In 1999 the parents of two nine-year-old boys sued Nintendo, stating that the Pokémon card game had caused the children to develop gambling problems and likening the trading-card craze to an illegal lottery. Religious groups that discount the theory of evolution also targeted Pokémon, for showing Pokémon evolving into new creatures.

Beginning in 2006, Pokémon video-game titles were produced exclusively for a new handheld console, the Nintendo DS, instead of the Game Boy, which was soon discontinued. In 2013 Pokémon X and Pokémon Y debuted on the Nintendo 3DS, which employed stereoscopic technology. The mobile application Pokémon GO was a blockbuster success upon its release in 2016. Developed by Niantic Labs, a former division of Google, the game used GPS data and the mobile device’s camera to create an “augmented reality” that allowed users to capture Pokémon from real-life locations.

Some dedicated Pokemon X Y fan has found a way to access the files hidden away in the game cartridge. This has lead to the leaking of a few unreleased Pokemon, three of which are brand new legendaries.

The most interesting part of these new legendaries is that they are special types: fire/water, ghost/psychic, and rock/fairy. So far, only one rock/fairy type exists: Carbink; the other two types have yet to show up in-game.

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Pictured above is Volcanion. It is a fire/water type. It looks sort of goofy until you make the association of it being sort of like a hadron collider.

Even then it is still goofy.

Pictured above is Diancie. It is a rock/fairy type. It’s got some sweet-looking crystal pigtails. I wish I could get my hair to look like that.

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or YLong lost twin?

The header image is a picture of Hoopa. Hoopa is the ghost/psychic type. This will make for an interesting type match up against other Pokemon.

Where and When Can I Find These?

It is not known where or how you will get these legendaries yet. The current speculation is that they will be available in the locked power plant areas on Route 13. Perhaps this will be unlockable via DLC. They could also come out as event Pokemon, like the Torchic and Giratina that are/were available recently.

I think the DLC idea is the most likely. There have been other leaked images of previous legendaries Mew and Arceus. This means that they are already in the game files and are probably awaiting unlocking DLC and/or possible region DLC.

Adding further to the case for DLC are all the NPCs in game that mention another region. This has been speculated as either Hoenn or a previously unreleased region. Going by the remakes of Kanto and Johto, it would not be surprising if Game Freak remade the third generation games.

You’ve finally done it. After fighting your way across the Alola region, you beat the Pokemon League to become the first ever regional champion. At this point you may be wondering what else there is to do in Pokemon Sun or Moon. Like other games in the series, there is actually a fair bit. Below are 5 things to do after beating Pokemon Sun and Moon.

1. Catch the Island Guardians

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

As you have seen throughout Pokemon Sun/Moon, there are legendary Pokemon associated with certain islands who act as these island’s defenders. Once you become champion, these legendary Pokemon deem you worthy enough to battle. There are a total of 4 island guardians to fight and collect. HtR has written a full walkthrough here.

2. Join The UB Task Force and Hunt UB

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Remember when Nintendo announced the existence of Ultra Beasts? Well as I was playing through the main story, I kept wondering where exactly they were. Ultra Beasts play a role in the storyline, but are not catchable until you become Pokemon League Champion. Once you return to your house, upon leaving again, a mysterious man will approach you and give you a key card. This key card opens a room in a motel along Route 8. Go to the room and meet the UB Task Force. This triggers the hunt for Ultra Beasts.

3. Catch Em All

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Another thing you can do is try to fill up your entire Pokedex. Currently there are 302 Pokemon in the Alola Pokedex for trainers to catch. Both Pokemon Sun and Moon have their own exclusives, so having friends with the opposite copy helps speed up this process. If you don’t have any friends fear not as Pokemon Sun and Moon has some robust multiplayer options to accomplish this feat. Wondertrade and GTS are good options to try to expand your pokedex. Other more traditional methods include going out and hunting for the Pokemon you need ( old school ). There is also the Pelagio which can add to your Pokedex pretty passively.

4. Fight at the Battle Tree

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Like other games in the series, Pokemon Sun and Moon have their own form of endgame arena in the Battle Tree. The Battle Tree can be located on Poni Island at the end of Poni Gauntly. Here you battle endlessly, with the purpose of stacking up win streaks to unlock harder opponents and stronger strong items. Battle Tree is basically the toughest endgame content, so make sure you are adequately ready to face off with some high level trainers. Battle Tree is filled with familiar faces from throughout the series, so enjoy the fan service.

5. Get Null and Cosmog

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

A funny thing happens when you become Pokemon Champion; people give you stuff. Not just any stuff, free stuff. Pokemon included. Once you are champion there are 2 easy Pokemon to add to your collection in Null and Cosmog. As this is just a list post, I won’t get bogged down with how to get these, but I will link to guides on both Null and Cosmog.

You may feel like your journey has ended once you become Champion of the Alola region, but I can assure you there is still much work to be done. Whether you want to catch all the Pokemon, fight endlessly or get free Pokemon, there is a ton of post game content to explore after you’ve beaten Pokemon Sun and Moon. Thanks for reading!

I’ve been hard at work trying to complete the Kalos Pokédex before Pokémon Bank and Poké Transfer release in December. It’s a way for me to challenge myself and maintain interest in the game. I play Pokémon X, but my boyfriend plays Y, so he’s been able to help.

So far I’ve gotten these:

Central Kalos Pokédex Completionist – A Medal to honor those recognized by the professor as having completed the Central Kalos Pokédex.

Water-type Catcher – A Medal in commemoration of catching all the Water-type Pokémon in the Kalos Pokédex.

Rock-type Catcher – A Medal in commemoration of catching all the Rock-type Pokémon in the Kalos Pokédex.

Bug-type Catcher – A Medal in commemoration of catching all the Bug-type Pokémon in the Kalos Pokédex.

So that’s exciting! Twenty more Pokémon to go and my Kalos Dex will be complete! Most of the evolutions I have remaining are stone evolutions (from stones I can’t buy): I need a thunder stone (my one went to Raichu, who I actually adore and have at level 100), and a handful of dusk, shiny, moon, and sun stones.

When my Kalos Dex is done, I’ll continue my efforts to have every Friend Safari Pokémon available to catch based on my friend list, and fill in my National Pokédex as much as possible (despite the fact that in December I’ll have loads of Pokémon to upload to the Bank).

PokГ©mon Sun and Moon just hit stores this morning, but cheats for the game are already up and running if you need a boost to get through the lengthy adventure.

An experienced game modder who goes by the name Red online has been working hard to create a new PokГ©mon Sun and Moon cheat engine called SUMOHax. It’s an all-in-one tool that lets you do anything from max out your money to make your character walk faster in the game.

To be clear, we don’t endorse using these PokГ©mon Sun and Moon cheats. This game was meticulously crafted to offer a great experience, and cheating may mean missing out on that experience. However, if you absolutely need to cheat, SUMOHax looks like a good option.

PokГ©mon Sun and Moon cheats: Everything you can do with SUMOHax

A few interesting PokГ©mon Sun and Moon cheats available through SUMOHax include the ability to walk through walls, an experience multiplier and the ability to get all the Z-Crystals. You can even use cheats to skip forced trainer battles or rematch trainers after you beat the.

Here’s the full list:

PokГ©mon Sun and Moon cheats: How to install SUMOHax

Taking advantage of these cheats will require a bit of hacking on your Nintendo 3DS. If you’re not comfortable doing that you’re out of luck, but if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty, there are plenty of guides out there to help walk you through the process.

It’s also important to note that these cheats will only work on the New 3DS. Unfortunately, the original 3DS and the 2DS systems can’t handle SUMOHax. So if you’re rocking an older model, you’re out of luck too.

Assuming you meet the hardware qualifications, the first thing you’ll need to do is install BootNTR selector, which allows you to take advantage of various 3DS cheats. Here’s a guide for installing BootNTRВ from Reddit.

Next, download SUMOHax and extract PokГ©mon Sun or PokГ©mon MoonВ to the plugin folder on your 3DS. Then you’ll need to launch BootNTR, which should send you back to the 3DS home menu. Finally, launch the game and tap the A button repeatedly to make sure it doesn’t freeze while loading all the extra data.

PokГ©mon Sun and Moon cheats: How to use SUMOHax

Once you have the PokГ©mon Sun and Moon cheat engine up and running, it’s time to have some fun. Press “Select” to pull up the menu and navigate with the directional buttons. Press “A” to switch specific cheats on/off, and when you’re finished just press “B” to go back to the game.

You can also change which button pulls up the menu by pressing “Start” while the cheat menu is up. Finally, you can control the speed that each PokГ©mon Sun and Moon cheat is executed by pressing “Select” from inside the menu.

Will be really useful if it’s true that you can EV train straight away. For example is Froakie attack or special attack?

@vessel28: Well seeing as Froakie’s final evolution is a Water/Dark, I would hazard a guess at Attack.

Also EV training can now be done through a system called “Super Training” which is a series of mini-games.

As far as Base stats for each stater their top three go like this in descending order.

Froakie Speed>S. Attack> Attack

Fennekin S. Attack>Speed>S. Defense

@ryuku_ryosake: Thanks. Do you have a source for that or was it from a leak? Going to probably choose Froakie and EV it as quick as possible.

Froakie seems to be the best choice.

Having previously played Yugioh, I knew the best way to get into it was buying structure decks. Coming into the Pokémon TCG, I thought it’d be the same with theme decks. Little did I know that the most recent theme deck is not the best and there’s so much choice!

Price wise, they’re great value for money. Providing ready built decks that can be upgraded with booster packs or singles. Even then, if you’re just looking to expand your collection, many theme decks provide a number of invaluable staples.

If you’re going to buy one (or more), it’s best to choose wisely. Playing for fun means you can use any assortment of cards so just choose whichever looks coolest. If you plan on winning though, make sure you’re spending correctly.

I’ll go through the 10 best theme decks available right now in the Pokémon TCG!

10. Sky Guardian

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Utilising Normal, Fairy and Fire type Pokémon, the Sky Guardian theme deck provides an excellent mix of cards. Lugia is a great boss monster, reducing damage taken and requiring no specific energy to attack.

Additional Normal type Pokémon provide a consistent wave of beaters, I highly recommend this theme deck to any new or returning player!

9. Bright Tide

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Water & Lightning based, Bright Tide focusing on an unconventional mixtures of types. You’ll want to get more copies of Lanturn though, as it’s an exceptional 1st stage evolution monster in a Water/Lightning deck.

The featured Pokémon is very capable of sweeping, dealing high damage while healing itself, for only 3 energy!

8. Gears of Fire

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

For a basic Pokémon, even a legendary one, the featured Volcanion is amazing. Able to keep your benched Pokémon full of energy, it’ll also act as a difficult active Pokémon to take down.

Encorporating Steel type Pokémon too, Klinklang will beat your other main boss, dealing huge amounts of damage while reducing any damage taken.

7. Rock Steady

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Lycanroc is a fan favorite among the Pokémon community and its theme deck has been out for nearly 2 years. Time hasn’t diminished its effectiveness though, with swathes of powerful Fighting Pokémon filling up your bench, backed up by a Meowstic for insane draw power.

Including Brooklet Hill as a Stadium card makes searching easy, thinning the deck to further increase the competence of Meowstic’s draw power. Many different strategies can be incorporated from other sets, Rock Steady might be the most upgrade-able theme deck in the game!

6. Hidden Moon

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Mainly for the featured card, Lunala is an absolute monster. While it doesn’t do much in the way of abilities, it hits incredibly hard for such little energy. It’s best to use Lunala’s first ability constantly, until it gets to low HP, then use its second one to move all equipped energy before its knocked out.

Other included Pokémon are lacklustre though so make sure you swap them out for other cards that compliment Lunala. More draw and search power cards would compliment Lunala well.

5. Torrential Cannon

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Just look at this Pidgeot card, giving the middle finger to any non-suspecting active Pokémon. 3 copies of Farfetch’d provides great draw power, you’ll want to get the Pidgeot and featured Blastoise out as fast as possible. Usually you can end up giving some prize cards out before you get going but Golduck is an excellent stall card, providing more than enough secure your victory!

Specifically based on Water and Normal type Pokémon.

4. Steel Sun

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

I really can’t believe how game-winning Solgaleo can be. Able to one-shot most Pokémon in the game, and even snipe benched Pokémon for easy prize cards. 160 HP is no joke either, you get multiple copies in the deck too.

Some included Pokémon are quite weak, so you’ll want to swap them out with singles from other sets or booster packs. The core is incredible though, building your strategy around it is the way to go!

3. Relentless Flame

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Mainly a pure Fire type deck, with a few Psychic types included. Alongside the featured Charizard’s ability, you’ll be hitting for 130 damage every single turn. Having the included Nidoqueen on your bench gives you easy access to Charmander’s evolutions.

Since Charizard’s ability does damage itself, adding Potions to the deck is a sure-fire way of making sure your Charizard stays in top condition.

2. Wave Slasher

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

A great starting point for any TCG beginners, Wave Slasher is a good balance between Grass and Water types. Greninja negates enemy abilities, which can be game-winning against certain decks. Such a large variety of different Pokémon (and their evolutions) make this a must-have for any player!

1. Blazing Volcano

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

With arguably the strongest basic Pokémon you’ll find in any theme deck, Blazing Volcano is well worth acquiring. Entei can deal up to 200 damage in one attack, for just 3 energy – and it’s a basic Pokémon!

Additionally, this theme deck grants you a vast array of trainer cards to ensure your hand is topped up with the cards you need. Blaziken keeps your energy coming each turn, Houndoom grants some insane search power and Heracross can hit like a truck for just 2 energy.

It’s safe to say this theme deck is the best available and by some distance!

The Eevee menagerie got a little bit bigger in Pokémon GO today. Until now we had been working with Jolteon, Flareon, Vaporeon, Umbreon and Espeon, but today we got Leafeon and Glaceon, meaning that we’re only missing one of Eevee’s various evolutions. Leafeon is Eevee’s grass-type evolution and Glaceon is the Ice-type, and both are capable little creatures just like their siblings. Read on for how to evolve Leafeon and Glaceon in Pokémon GO.

Leafeon and Glaceon, like other Gen 4 evolutions of previous-generation Poké mon, require a special item to evolve. Unlike all those other creatures, however, that item is not a Sinnoh Stone. It’s a new special type of lure module: a mossy lure for Leafeon, and a glacial lure for Glaceon.

A Warning About Your Amazon PS5 And Xbox Series X Pre-Orders

‘Fortnite’ Birthday Cake Locations: Where To Dance In Front Of 10 Birthday Cakes (Year 3)

Microsoft’s Plans For Bethesda On Xbox Series X Seem More Clear Now

The mossy and glacial lure modules lure particular Poké mon to whatever stop you use them on, making for a marked difference from the usual, anything goes-style lure module. They also allow for evolution. Basically, all you need to do is drop your lure into any given Poké stop and then select your Eevee. You’ll see a special option so long as you’re in the range of the Poké stop and have 25 candies. Select that to get your Leafeon or your Glaceon, depending on your lure.

So far, the mossy and glacial lures are available only in the item shop for 200 Poké coins. Not a huge expense, but still–not free. Niantic says that these items will be coming to special research later in the year, so you will be able to get them as a free-to-play player. For now, however, you don’t technically have to buy it yourself. These lure modules, like other lure modules, works for all players. So if you can’t or don’t want to shell out the coins, you can hope a friend will. Or you can go to a populated area and see if anyone has dropped one down: you’ll see leaves for a Mossy Lure and ice for a Glacial Lure.

And that’s how you get your new Eeveelutions. There are a bunch of other Gen 4 creatures available today, as well.

Ah crap. Now i gotta buy a 3DS, and i have so many other things to buy as well.

Never mind. I’ll be buying this even if I have to whore myself out.

I gotta say, the game looks pretty awesome, so do the starters – especially that “Fire Fox” and the Legendaries, sexy as always.

So that was why you weren’t believing it? XD

Excited , the desings look awesome, the flying legendary looked pretty beastly.

As usual I am a fire pokemon fan and the firefox appeals to me more but i liked the other two, i like this starters more then the last gen ones.

i still think the starters look a little to anime like but that flying legendary looks beastly

I’m sad cause I forgot about this and didn’t open the conference til he was wrapping up. ;_; (edit: ohhhh, there’s a vid already. yay, no more sad)

Starters since I don’t see them posted here:

inb4Fennekin becomes a fire/fighting type after evolving

The presentation cut off during the trailer for me.
I know its been literally minutes since it showed, but is the trailer available on any of the Nintendo websites?

Here’s a few details I’ve noticed:

-We may have customizable trainers now. Didn’t the male and female look a little generic to you? Plus we had 3D models which are easier to notice differences.
-Old Pokemon return so we probably will have new evolutions for older creatures.
-The new battle system looks refreshing, something to be seen with the eyes for sure.
-It seems like you get a friend to follow you (a human) as seen in the trailer. Perhaps like Colliseum?
-The legendaries match their respective letters.

So that was why you weren’t believing it? XD

I suppose its not an issue. I’ve got 10 months or so to come up with the money.

My only issue is this is way too soon after B/W 2. I’ve only just restarted that and haven’t fully explored the WT or anything else for that matter and that i would have prefered a remake of Ruby/Sapphire

A hidden reference to the TV show allows you choose the way Eevee evolves.

How to evolve Eevee continues to be one of the bigger talking points in Pokémon Go.

In the classic Pokémon games, Eevee can evolve into different typing varieties – known as Eeveelutions by names – based on the use of special items, its happiness level, moves it has available and even the time of day.

With Candy in Pokémon Go, the way you evolve Pokémon is much simpler, and as such, you cannot use the tried-and-tested method of using one of three elemental stones to turn Eevee into Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon.

Once you have caught enough Eevees to evolve one – our pages on finding Pokemon by location, finding which Pokemon hatch from which eggs and locating Pokémon nests near you can help – a neat trick will get you the evolution you need by using a special Eevee name.

Pokémon Go Eeveelutions: How to evolve Eevee into evolutions Leafeon, Glaceon, Umbreon, Espeon, Vaporeon, Flareon and Jolteon with these Eevee names

Here’s how Eevee evolutions work. If you choose to evolve Eevee without any meddling – by feeding it 25 Eevee candy – then it’ll turn to one of the below seven types at random.

However, players have discovered a trick that allows you to target any of Leafeon, Glaceon, Espeon, Umbreon, Flareon, Jolteon or Vaporeon by using one of the following Eevee names:

  • Rename Eevee as Linnea to evolve into leaf-type Leafeon
  • Rename Eevee as Rea to evolve into ice-type Glaceon
  • Rename Eevee as Sakura to evolve into psychic-type Espeon
  • Rename Eevee as Tamao to evolve into dark-type Umbreon
  • Rename Eevee as Rainer to evolve into water-type Vaporeon
  • Rename Eevee as Sparky to evolve into lightning-type Jolteon
  • Rename Eevee as Pyro to evolve into fire-type Flareon

Important note – the trick only works once per evolution type, so make sure you choose Eevees with the best CP values before you evolve them into the type you want.

Thanks to McLovin1019 on reddit for confirming the new Leafeon and Glaceon evolution names.

That said, for select Eevee evolutions, its possible to get the specific types you want through a second method.

Alternate Eevee evolution methods for Leafeon, Glaceon, Umbreon and Espeon

Gen 4’s Leafeon and Glaceon have a second Eevee evolution method, by using the Mossy Lure or Glacial Lure respectively. When you’re in range of that PokéStop with the Lure enabled, go to your Eevee and choose the Evolution.

Meanwhile, Gen 2’s Umbreon and Espeon also have a second Eevee evolution method. Walk your Eevee as a Buddy for 10km, then evolve it either during the night (Umbreon) or day (Espeon) and it’ll turn into the desired evolution.

Note you specifically need to walk 10k and earn two Candies in the process, then keep Eevee as your Buddy when evolving, and be either day or night during the game itself for it to work (thanks to Daviebruce72 on reddit for clarifying).

Since the naming trick only works once per evolution type, this appears to be a useful way to get a second Espeon or Umbreon with some reliability.

What you need to know about Eevee Evolution names in Pokémon Go

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or Y

Why Sakura, Tamao, Sparky, Rainer and Pyro? The original three are the names of the Eevee brothers from the Pokémon television show, who meet with Ash and the gang in episode 40 to show off their respective Eevee evolutions, with Sakura and Tamao appearing later on in the series.

Once you have called your Eevee into one of the above names, you should quit and reload the app to double check the name change has taken place, which is important considering the servers can lean to be on the unreliable side.

Once you’ve double checked the new name is indeed in place, then evolve the Eevee as you would any other Pokémon by feeding it Candy, and it should take the form of your chosen type.

How to Have Fun on Pokémon X or YAll Eevee evolutions – bar Sylveon – are available in Pokémon Go.

2020 has seen several new features in Pokémon Go – Mega Evolutions, the A Mega Discovery Special Research, the arrival of Rocket Balloons, the Go Battle League, Remote Raids and the trade evolution feature. Pokemon Go also sees regular events – including weekly Spotlight Hour, monthly Field Research rewards and Pokémon Go Community Day.

How do you evolve Eevee into Sylveon in Pokémon Go?

If you want to get your hands on the final Eevee evolution in Pokémon Go, then you’re out of luck – you can’t just yet.

So far, Pokémon Go has added Eevee evolutions for the first four Generations of creatures, which means Eevee can only evolve into Leafeon, Glaceon, Umbreon, Espeon, Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon for now.

That leaves just Sylveon to go. Since it’s from Gen 6, it’ll be a good while yet, but you can be sure there’ll be a Eevee evolution name to go with it.
