One of the awesome things about the Windows Store is you are allowed to install any app you purchase on up to 5 Windows machines. This means that the PC you install the app on gets added to your Trusted PC list. Here’s how to clean up that list.

Remove PCs That Are Allowed To Install Purchased Apps

Switch to the Start Screen and launch the Store app.

Now move your mouse to the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, or press the Win + C keyboard combination to bring up the Charms bar, from here select the Settings Charm.

Then head into your account settings.

At the bottom of your account, you will see all the devices that are allowed to install apps you purchase. Simply click the Remove button and that device will no longer be able to install apps from your account.

Adding a device to your Microsoft account is quick and easy. Feel free to use the method that is most convenient for you:

On an Xbox or Windows device: Sign in to your Microsoft account.

On your Windows PC: Sign in to the Microsoft Store.

On any device with a browser: Go to account.microsoft.com/devices, select Register device, then follow the instructions.

On an iOS device: Download Microsoft Edge from the Apple App Store and sign in with your Microsoft account.

On an Android device: Download Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Launcher, or Your Phone Companion from the Google Play Store and sign in with your Microsoft account.

MacOS devices can’t be added at this time.

Register a device to see its warranty

To see the warranty coverage for your Surface, Surface accessory, Xbox, or Xbox accessory, you’ll need to register its serial number. Some online features won’t be available when you add your device this way.

Go to account.microsoft.com/devices, sign in, and select Register device to continue.

Enter your device’s serial number to register it to your account.

Select your device to see its warranty information.

Note: If your Surface is managed or owned by your company or organization, you don’t need to register it. To contact support and get additional resources for that situation, see Surface for Business help.

Fix a device

If you’re having problems with your device, you can get help online and create a service order. After you register your device, here’s how to create a service order:

Go to account.microsoft.com/devices, sign in, and select the device that’s having issues.

Select Start order, then follow the instructions.

Rename a device

Change the default name of your device so you can quickly identify it in your Microsoft account. When you want to download an app or game to another device, you’ll be able to find the device using its new name.

On the PC you want to rename:

Select Start > Settings > System > About .

Select Rename this PC.

Enter a new name and select Next. You may be asked to sign in.

Select Restart now or Restart later.

On the Xbox you want to rename:

Press the Xbox button on your controller to bring up the Guide, then navigate to Profile & system (your account icon), and select Settings > System > Console info > Name.

Enter the new name and select Enter .

Restart your Xbox.

Remove a device

If you don’t use a device but it still appears in your devices, here’s how to remove it:

Go to account.microsoft.com/devices, sign in, and find the device you want to remove.

Select the device to see all your options, select Remove device, then follow the instructions.

If you want to remove a device for a child in your family, have your child sign into account.microsoft.com/devices, then follow the same instructions.

Unlink a device from Microsoft Store

If you can’t download content from the Microsoft Store, you may have reached your device limit. Manage your limit by removing devices you don’t use or no longer have access to. To unlink a device:

Find the device you want to remove and select Unlink.

Review your device details and select Unlink.

Once you unlink a device, it won’t count towards your device limit. If you haven’t reached the limit, and download an app or game on this device later, it will count towards your device limit again.

Find or fix a device in your Microsoft account

If your device is missing, and you’ve signed in to it with your Microsoft account, you might be able to find it. Here’s how:

Sign in to account.microsoft.com/devices, then select Find my device.

Select the device you want to find, then select Find.

Microsoft has embraced this culture with Windows 10; making it easy to manage all your devices running Windows 10 or Windows 8/8.1. Each Microsoft Account can manage up to five devices. To begin, click Start > Settings > Accounts > Your Info, click the Manage my Microsoft account link.

As you can see below, I have quite some devices registered, which includes my Windows Phone, Surface Pro, HP notebook, Acer laptop and a virtual machine. Information about the device location and time it was last used is also available. Users can also determine whether the device is on or off. When you sign into Windows 8 or 10 using your Microsoft account (and other Microsoft devices, like an Xbox), those devices become associated with your account. If you want to remove an old device you’ve gotten rid of, you’ll have to pay a visit to Microsoft’s account web site.

Windows 8 and 10 both allow you to sign into your computer using either a Microsoft account or a local account. The advantage of using a Microsoft account is that you can download apps from the Windows Store, sync most of your desktop settings between computers, and use fun features like Cortana. When you sign in with a Microsoft account, the computer you’re using becomes linked with your account. This won’t be a big deal for some, but it can cause a few issues.

  • Apps that you download from the Windows Store, for example, can be installed on up to 10 devices. That may seem like plenty, but it also includes old devices you may not use anymore. If you have a device you want to keep, but remove installed apps, you can also de-authorize that device in the Windows Store instead of removing the device entirely.
  • If you want to sell, give away, or just trash an old computer, it’s a good idea to remove it from your Microsoft account first. And if you sell a Windows Phone, you’ll need to remove the device from your account before the new owner can set up features like Find My Phone.
  • Every Windows 10 device on which you’ve enabled sync stores its backups on your OneDrive account. These backups don’t use a lot of space, but if you’re using a free OneDrive account, every bit of space counts. Removing a device also removes its backups.

To remove a device from your account, hit your web browser and sign in to your Microsoft account.

The “Your devices” page shows all devices registered to your account. You can also view just devices that have apps & games, music, or movies & TV shows. But unless you have a lot of devices to weed through, the “Your devices” page is just fine. Find the device you’d like to remove on the list. If you’ve got your devices named well (and here’s a good reason to do that if you haven’t), it should be easy to find. If not, each entry also shows you the model of the devices on which it’s installed, what version of Windows is installed, and (if you have location services turned on) when and where the computer was last seen.

When you’ve located the device you want to remove, just click the “Remove” link to the right.

On the warning page, select the “I’m ready to remove this device” check box and then click Remove.

A confirmation page shows you what device you removed and the exact time and date. Click Back to Devices.

And you’re done. Removing a device from your Microsoft account is pretty straightforward, but it’s good to check in once in a while to keep your device list up to date. Removing devices helps ensure that that old devices you no longer use are not capable of accessing your account and that you don’t run into the ten-device limit for installed apps and games.

You might not be able to authorize your computer due to issues with account or folder permissions. Continue below to fix the issue.

iTunes for Windows might ask you to authorize your computer before you can play items you bought from the iTunes Store. Learn what to do if you’ve reached your authorization limit.

iTunes features might vary by country or region.

Try authorizing your purchases with a different Apple ID

You might have used a different Apple ID to buy the items that you want to play. To check, right-click the item and look for Remove Download in the menu. If you see Remove Download, you’re signed in with the Apple ID that you used to purchase the item. Select Remove Download, then redownload the item.

If you don’t see Remove Download, follow these steps:

  1. On your PC, open iTunes for Windows.
  2. In Library, find a song that you bought from the iTunes Store and select it.
  3. From the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window, choose Edit > Get Info.
  4. Click the File tab. Look to the right of “purchased by” for the Apple ID that you used to buy the item.
  5. Authorize your computer using the Apple ID from step 4, which might have changed since you bought the item if you updated the password or email address associated with that Apple ID. If you forgot your Apple ID password, visit iforgot.apple.com.

If you’re not sure if your Apple ID has changed since you bought the item, check the purchase history of that Apple ID for the item to confirm that the item is on the list of purchases.

Turn off User Account Controls

In iTunes for Windows, you can fix some authorization issues if you reset your User Account Controls. To reset your User Account Controls in Windows 7 or later, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard. If your keyboard doesn’t have a Windows key, press the Control (Ctrl) and Escape (Esc) keys on your keyboard.
  2. Click on the magnifying icon or search field. In the search field, enter UserAccountControlSettings .
  3. Click UserAccountControlSettings.
  4. If asked if you want to allow this app to make changes, click Yes.
  5. Move the slider to the bottom setting.
  6. Click OK.
  7. If asked if you want to allow this app to make changes, click Yes.
  8. Restart your computer.

Then, turn User Account Controls back on.

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard. If your keyboard doesn’t have a Windows key, press the Control (Ctrl) and Escape (Esc) keys on your keyboard.
  2. Click on the magnifying icon or search field. In the search field, enter UserAccountControlSettings .
  3. Click UserAccountControlSettings.
  4. Move the slider back to the setting that you want.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Restart your computer.
  7. Try to authorize your computer again.

Remove the SC Info folder in Windows

To work properly, iTunes needs the SC Info folder on your computer. You can authorize your computer to play your purchases if you remove the folder. Then, let iTunes recreate it.

  1. Quit iTunes.
  2. Press the Windows key on your keyboard. If your keyboard doesn’t have a Windows key, press the Control (Ctrl) and Escape (Esc) keys on your keyboard.
  3. Click on the magnifying icon or search field. In the search field, enter %ProgramData%, then press Return.
  4. Show hidden files:
    Windows 10: Click View, then select “Hidden items.”
    Windows 8: Click View, then click Options. On the View tab, select “Show hidden files, folders, and drives.”
    Windows 7: Click Organize, then click “Folder and search options.” On the View tab, select “Show hidden files, folders, and drives.”
  5. Open the Apple Computer folder, then open the iTunes folder.
  6. Right-click the SC Info folder and choose Delete from the pop-up menu.
  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Open iTunes.
  9. Try to authorize your computer again. If you have multiple Apple IDs, authorize your computer for each Apple ID.

Go to iTunes on a computer and select your Account (on the right hand side of the window towards the top once you are signed in). Select Manage Devices under iTunes in the Cloud. All computers in this list count against the 5 total computer authorizations each Apple ID can have.

The question asks about computer Authorization. But some of the answers here confuse Authorization with Association. I’d like to clarify the terms first, using Apple’s own definitions, then answer the question.

Authorization

Authorization refers to computers only. Authorizing a computer allows you to play media purchased from the iTunes Store with a specific Apple ID. In order to use apps, audiobooks, books, DRM-protected music, and movies on a computer it must be Authorized. Each Apple ID can authorize a maximum of 5 computers.

You can deauthorize each computer individually. If you’ve forgotten which computers you have authorized in the past, there is not a way to list all authorized computers. Apple only tells you the number that are authorized. However, once a year you can Deauthorize All computers from within your iTunes Store account settings.

Association

Association allows you to download past iTunes purchases onto a different device. Apple calls this iTunes in the Cloud. In addition, association allows the use of Apple features such as iTunes Match and Automatic Downloads.

You can associate up to 10 devices with each Apple ID. By device Apple means an iOS gadget or an authorized computer. (Since every associated computer must also be authorized that limits you to 5 associated computers for these features.) So you can associate one computer and 9 other devices, or 5 computers and 5 other devices, but not 9 computers and 1 other device. You’re limited to 5 computers.

There is a list of associated devices which can be found in the Account section if iTunes Store.

So the only way to determine which computers are authorized is by trial and error: Deauthorize each computer you own in turn using Store > Deauthorize This Computer… within iTunes.

If after doing this the iTunes Store still says you have authorized computers, you only have one option: Use the Deauthorize All feature of iTunes Store, and then reauthorize the computers you own. But keep in mind, Apple only allows you to Deauthorize All once every twelve months.

Special note about about Association and Android phones.

Using Apple’s own definition from the Support site.

You can’t view a list of your associated devices or remove any of your associated devices using an Android phone, but Android phones do count against your ten-device limit.

Microsoft’s Windows 10 only lets you install apps and games on a limited number of devices. It has even stricter limits for subscription music and videos purchased from the Windows Store. Here’s how to ensure you stay within those limits.

Think of this like Windows 10’s versions of iTunes computer authorizations. When you hit the limit of devices associated with your Microsoft account, you’ll see a “device limit reached” error message when you go to download apps, music, or videos.

Windows 10’s Device Limits Explained

There are three separate device limit lists, as Microsoft’s app store, music store, and video store are all technically separate.

  • Apps and Games: For apps and games purchased (or just downloaded for free) from Windows 10’s Store, you’re limited to 10 devices. For Windows 8.1, you were limited to 81 devices that could download apps and games from the Windows Store. While most people were unlikely to ever run up against that 81 device limit, it’s feasible you could bump up against Windows 10’s device limit for apps.
  • Music from a Groove Music Subscription: If you have a subscription to Microsoft’s Groove Music service, formerly known as Xbox Music, you’re limited to four devices that can download and play your music at any given time.
  • Music Purchased from the Store: If you instead purchase music from the Store, Microsoft’s website says the music “an be authorized on up to five (5) personal computers and a reasonable number of registered devices.”
  • Movies & TV: For movies and TV shows purchased and rented from the Windows Store and played in the Movies & TV app–formerly known as Xbox Video–you’re limited to four devices that can download and play videos at any given time.

Yes, these are three separate lists. You’ll never notice it until you bump up against the limit, as Microsoft automatically adds devices to these lists as you use them.

How Often You Can Remove Devices

You can add devices to these lists at any time by signing in and downloading apps, music, or videos. You can add as many devices as you want at any given time, assuming you don’t hit the limit.

You can remove any number of devices from your authorized “Apps and Games” list at any time, so it’s simple to manage this list if you run into problems.

However, the Music and Movies & TV lists are more restricted. You can only remove one device from each of these lists once every 30 days. If you rely on Microsoft’s media services, you’ll want to keep track of your device limits and remove devices from here immediately when you no longer use them.

How to Manage Your Authorized Devices

To manage your authorized device list, sign into the Microsoft Account website with the account you use on your Windows 10 devices. Click the “Devices” category and select “Apps & games devices,” “Music devices,” or “Movies & TV devices,” depending on which list you want to manage.

The main “Your Devices” list here allows you to view a list of the devices you’ve used and find them on a map if you’ve enabled the Find My Device feature on Windows 10.

If you’ve reached the device limit for installing apps and games, remove one or more devices from the list here. You won’t be able to install apps and games from the Windows Store on devices you remove from this list–unless you re-add them to the list–so only remove devices you don’t use anymore.

Once you’ve done so, you’ll be able to visit the Windows Store on a new, unregistered device and install apps and games. That new device will appear in your list of authorized devices after you do.

You can remove devices at any time, even after you’ve wiped it or sold it. So you don’t need to worry about pre-emptively managing this list like you do with iTunes–just visit this web page if you ever bump into the limit.

If you use Microsoft’s music or video services, visit the associated web pages here to see your list of registered devices. Each list is separate, and you can only remove a device once every thirty days from each list. If you reach the limit, you can remove a device and add another one–as long as you haven’t removed a device in the last 30 days. You may want to remove devices from these lists immediately.

If you’d like to remove more devices from the list–or remove one more often than once every thirty days–your only option is to contact MIcrosoft customer support by opening the “Contact Support” app in Windows 10’s Start menu and asking them to help you with the problem. There’s no guarantee they will.

Microsoft’s device limits are perhaps a bit low–for example, there’s no limit on how many devices you can install Steam games on. Luckily, most people won’t have more than ten devices they want to install Windows 10 apps on. And, if you can’t install Windows 10 apps from the Store on a device, you can always continue to install traditional desktop applications.

If you can’t find an app or you found it, but can’t install it, here are some reasons why you might not see it:

The app isn’t available in your country or region. Not all apps are available worldwide. An app available in France might not be available in Germany. If you bought an app in one country or region and then you moved to another one, the apps you had might disappear.

Note: Lebanon Microsoft Store for consumers closed on October 28, 2021. However, customer support is still available through Microsoft Support and Microsoft products are available through our partners in the region.

Microsoft family settings might be hiding apps. Parents can use family settings to make sure that their child can’t view or install apps that are inappropriate for their age. Getting started with Microsoft Family Safety

The app is no longer available. When an app is removed from Microsoft Store, it takes a little time for the app description page to get removed. In addition, some apps and games aren’t available in Microsoft Store, but can be downloaded from the publisher’s site directly.

The app isn’t compatible with your device. Microsoft Store automatically hides or blocks the purchase button on apps that are incompatible with your device. You might see an app from Microsoft Store available on your PC, but not on another PC, or your Xbox.

Your PC was recently updated, but wasn’t restarted. If updates for Windows were recently installed, you’ll need to restart your PC before you can install apps from Microsoft Store.

Your PC isn’t authorized to use Microsoft Store apps. You’ll need to sign into the app with your Microsoft account. To check if your PC is authorized, see Add a device to your Microsoft account.

Reset the Microsoft Store app

Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run dialog box.

Enter wsreset.exe then select OK.

A blank command prompt window will open, and after about ten seconds the window will close and Microsoft Store will open automatically.

Microsoft Store apps fail to download with Error: 0x80070005

While this known issue is fixed in the Windows 10 Version 20H1 (May 2020) Update, you might need to take the following steps if you are still experiencing this error:

Update Windows to the Windows 10 Version 20H1 (May 2020) Update or later.

Delete the account files in the following folder: %systemdrive%\Users\ \AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewy\AC\TokenBroker\Accounts.

Take a backup copy of %systemdrive%\Users\ \AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewy\Settings\settings.dat, then delete it.

Sign out of your device, then sign back in.

At some point in time you would have purchased a new Mac and retired an old one. Perhaps you passed it down to a friend or family member, sold it for a few dollars, or perhaps it simply stopped working. But did you deauthorize your computer, from your Apple ID prior to disposing of it? If not, this article will provide you with information on how to deauthorize both your current computer and those that you no longer own, or have access to.

Apple currently allows users to add up to five different computers to a single Apple ID. This includes Mac and Windows computers that are capable of running iTunes, but does not include iOS or iPod devices. Upon reaching this limit, you will need to deauthorize one or more computers in order for a new computer to be linked to your account thereby giving you the ability to easily manage all your purchased content along with access to Home Sharing, Automatic Downloads, and the ability to download previous purchases. This restriction is in place as an extension of DRM (Digital Rights Management) in relation to the content you purchase, or access, via the iTunes Store.

There are a few different ways that you can go about deauthorizing a computer from your account. If you still have the computer in front of you, simply launch iTunes and proceed to Store > Deauthorize This Computer from the Menu Bar.

Alternatively, proceed to the iTunes Store, within the iTunes application, and in the Quick Links bar on the right hand side select Account.

You can also click on your username, and select account from the iTunes Store window.

You will then be presented with your account information.

Within the Apple ID Summary area, you will notice Computer Authorizations. You will be told how many computers are currently authorized, but you will not be able to see them as a list. It is important to note that this area offers a very different method than the one presented above. Should you click on Deauthorize All, then every computer attached to your AppleID will be removed. If you have sold your computer, and subsequently no longer have access to it, then this is the only way to successful remove the authorization. Please remember that this process can only be done once per calendar year, and if you have less than two authorized computers this option will not present itself. We therefore recommend you deauthorize whilst you still have the computer, if possible. We also recommend that before bringing the computer in for a service, or updating components such as RAM, that you deauthorize the computer. This is because a modification in hardware can register as a new Mac, which will cause you to run out of available slots that can be authorized with new computers.

Understandably, you may be concerned about proceeding with this method, but you can re-authorize the computers you still own, and have access to, by proceeding to Store > Authorize This Computer from the Menu Bar in iTunes on each computer.

Whilst you are in the accounts area, take a look at your details and update them accordingly. Ensure that your email address is current as Apple will send any vital security information, relating to your account, to your registered email address.

Cannot Authorize Computer On iTunes

In case you are having problems authorizing a computer to iTunes it could be due to any of the following reasons.

1. Problem with your Apple ID or minor iTunes Glitch

2. You have too many computers linked to your iTunes Account

3. You have Corrupted iTunes Info Files on your Computer

Too Many Computers Linked to iTunes

iTunes allows you to authorize up to 5 computers per Account, you won’t be able to authorize any more computers once you reach this limit.

In case you do not have 5 computers, it is likely that you are still exceeding the 5 computer limit due to some old computers being attached to your iTunes Account.

Your Computer count on iTunes can also go up when you do a fresh installation of the Operating System on your computer without Deauthorizing a Computer on iTunes first. In such cases, iTunes counts your single computer as 2 computers.

Whatever may be the case, the problem can be easily fixed by using the option to “Deauthorize All computers” as available in iTunes.

1. Open iTunes on your Computer and Sign in With your Apple ID (in case you are not already signed in).

2. Now in iTunes, click on the Account Tab to open a drop-down menu (See image below).

6. Next, click on Deauthorize All button that you can see next to Computer Authorizations (See image above).

7. You will see a popup asking you to confirm that you do want to Deauthorize all computers. Click on Deauthorize All Computers .

Now that you have Deauthorized all computers on iTunes, you can start from a clean slate by Authorizing Computers that you currently use.

Note: You can use the option to Deauthorize All Computers only once in 12 months.

Remove SC Info Folder

In case above two methods are not applicable in your case or did not help you, it is likely that the iTunes Info Files located on your computer are corrupted.

Reinstalling iTunes on your Computer should fix this issue. In case reinstalling iTunes does not fix the problem you can Remove the iTunes SC Folder from your computer and allow iTunes to build a new SC Info Folder.

SC Info Folder contains the authorization information for your computer to access DRM-protected content. In order access this Folder, you will first need to make hidden files view-able on your computer.

1. Logout of iTunes on your computer.

2. Click on the Windows Start button and click on File Explorer .

3. On the File Explorer Window, Click on View tab and make hidden files view-able on your computer by checking the little box next to Hidden items (See image below).

4. After enabling hidden files, you can access SC Info Folder located on your computer by first clicking on File Explorer > Local Disc (C:) > Users > All Users > Apple Computer > iTunes > SC Info .

5. Next, right-click the SC Info folder and choose Delete from the pop-up menu.

6. Restart your computer.

7. Next, Open iTunes on your computer and try to Authorize your computer in iTunes.

Hopefully, you should have no problem authorizing your computer to iTunes this time.

Does anybody know how to remove an old computer (that you no longer have) from the List of Authorized computers? I’ve searched but Steam’s help results are of no use.

Because Steam accounts DO NOT get hacked. They may get hijacked but not hacked. Hacking requires exploiting weaknesses in code where as hijacking is when a user voluntarily gives a stranger access. Normally by trying to login on dodgy phishing websites to trade, gamble, vote a team or whatever else.

Consider this Steam shows a list. Someone gets hijacked because they used a phishing website. The hijacker, not hacker, can then view that information just select all devices that is not theirs. You’re locked out and can’t get access at all. Yet their device is still allowed.

Windows 10’s Creators Update has a switch you can flip to only allow apps from the Windows Store. This feature can also be used to whitelist your existing desktop apps, only allowing your currently installed applications to run and blocking new applications until you allow them. It’s similar to Gatekeeper on macOS.

You’ll find this option under Settings > Apps > Apps & Features after upgrading to the Creators Update. Under “Installing Apps”, you can select either “Allow apps from anywhere”, “Warn me before installing apps from outside the Store”, or “Allow apps from the Store only”. The default option allows you to run applications from anywhere, which is the way Windows has traditionally worked.

Tell Windows to block apps from outside the Store afterwards and you’ll still be able to run that .exe file and any other apps you’ve already run.

When you try to run or install a new app file, it will be blocked but you can click “Install anyway” to give the app permission to run. A repeat authorization request occurs when you launch iTunes, select a song or track to listen to, and receive a prompt indicating you’re not authorized to play that song. The most common cause of this problem is when an iTunes library includes songs purchased by other user accounts or Apple IDs, and some of those profiles are not authorized to access certain content.

You need to manually authorize devices to download and play music from iTunes in the Cloud—the shared media platform that allows users to access the same content from different computers or mobile devices.

Authorize the computer you are using. From the Account menu in the ​iTunes/Music app, select Authorizations > Authorize This Computer and then enter your Apple ID and password. This fix should solve most problems related to media authorization.

Manage your authorized devices. If you still get the same message, look up which devices are authorized to download and play purchases from iTunes in the Cloud. Navigate to the Account Information section in iTunes/Music. Then, look up which devices have access to iTunes in the Cloud, remove those devices, or deauthorize Apple ID accounts.

Deauthorize unused or unwanted devices. You may have too many devices associated with your Apple ID. iTunes allows up to 10 devices to share music from an iTunes library, only five of which can be computers. If you have too many computers allowed to share, you can’t add additional ones without first removing a computer from the list.

Log in with an admin account. If the Apple ID is correct, but iTunes still requires authorization, you may be logged in to a Mac user account that doesn’t have the necessary privileges. From the Apple menu, select Log Out user name and then log in using an administrator account. After you log in with an administrator account, launch iTunes, select Authorize This Computer from the Store menu, and provide the appropriate Apple ID and password. Log out once again, then log in to your user account and play the song again.

Delete the SC Info folder. If you’re still stuck in an authorization loop, one of the files that iTunes uses in the authorization process may be corrupted. The easiest solution is to delete the file and then reauthorize the Mac. First, you need to make invisible items visible. Once visible, open a Finder window and navigate to /Users/Shared, locate the folder titled SC Info and drag it to the trash. Finally, relaunch iTunes and authorize the computer as instructed in step 1.

Contact Apple Support. If you still receive authorization messages and cannot play your music, contact Apple customer support or schedule an appointment at an Apple Genius Bar.

I have a github account which is configured in my windows pc. Now I have created a new Github account and want to use the new one.

It seems like you are trying to generate a new SSH key for your new account. If that’s the case and you think your public key is specified for your old account, you shouldn’t worry acording to this post. The comment at the end of your publc key is JUST a comment. You can generate a new one with a different comment if you want to.

If you are using Bash, you can use your favorite text editor and open the .gitconfig file yourself and remove the credentials you don’t want. It is located (in Bash) at “

I’m pretty sure there is a command you could do for this, but this is how I would do it.

Here is a command line that could do it :

This command line will do exactly the same as the first command line I mentionned except that this one is working not only on Bash and you don’t have to know the location of the file by heart. It will use your default text editor.

Means only one of the three options. Use only one depending on the config file you want to edit. Personaly I would not edit the system one, so just look in your local ones (for the repositories you need to) and in the gloabal one.

I just recently bought an album on iTunes and I have a weird problem. All of the songs (18 in all) except for one, play perfectly fine. When I try to play it, it says “This computer is not authorized to play “”. Would you like to authorize it?” It prompts me to sign in with my Apple ID, which I did. Then it says “This computer is already authorized.” I have no clue how to fix this! I’ve tried the steps outlined in iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization and iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases, but neither of them work. Any suggestions?

In the end, deleting all the offending track and re-downloading it was the only thing that worked. Why I didn’t think about this at first, I don’t know, but it worked!

JUST found the solution to my nearly year long battle with iTunes and the: You are not authorized. You’re already authorized issue. Just adding this to spread the word that Ctrl +b -> Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Reset Cache worked for me.

Every time iTunes started it thought it was freshly installed and prompted me to go through the tour, set the default music player, and authorize (each time saying it was already authorized). It wasn’t just one song, it was about 50% of my music and 100% of my movies. I had already tried- deauthorizing then authorizing, uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting that SC- folder and restarting — nothing worked until I cleared the cache.

Here’s what worked for me:

1) Right click the album or song. The first option that appears is “Remove Download”

2) Click “Remove Download” and blue cloud icons should appear next to the song or songs.

3) Click the icon to download the song. The cloud icon should disappear after the song is downloaded.

4) Click on the song to make sure it plays. If there are more songs with the issue, repeat this process.

What worked for me was in iTunes, top right corner on click on down arrow, and then Account info, then manage devices in iCloud. This was very different from the authorised computers under STORE in itunes. Once I deauthorised all, I could then authorise my computer. If you have only one computer authorized it can be deauthorized right from the “Store” menu. I had the exact same problem – what worked for me was to make sure the “iCloud download” column was checked and visible (right click in area where artist, name etc labels are and scroll down to click on “iCloud download”), a small icon with a cloud and an arrow were shown beside my song and clicking on that downloaded it from the cloud. Had same issue, had just downloaded an album but three of the tracks would not play, giving this ‘authorise’ error. As suggested deleted them, but to re-download them went to Account (top of screen), Purchased, and listed purchased tracks. A cloud symbol was next to those I had deleted, clicked this to re-download them, and they played normally.

Most authentication in Windows environments is done with a username-password pair, which works well for systems that share a common domain. When working across domains, such as between on-premises and cloud-hosted systems, it becomes vulnerable to brute force intrusions.

By comparison, Linux environments commonly use public-key/private-key pairs to drive authentication which doesn’t require the use of guessable passwords. OpenSSH includes tools to help support this, specifically:

  • ssh-keygen for generating secure keys
  • ssh-agent and ssh-add for securely storing private keys
  • scp and sftp to securely copy public key files during initial use of a server

This document provides an overview of how to use these tools on Windows to begin using key-based authentication with SSH. If you are unfamiliar with SSH key management, we strongly recommend you review NIST document IR 7966 titled “Security of Interactive and Automated Access Management Using Secure Shell (SSH)”.

About key pairs

Key pairs refer to the public and private key files that are used by certain authentication protocols.

SSH public key authentication uses asymmetric cryptographic algorithms to generate two key files – one “private” and the other “public”. The private key files are the equivalent of a password, and should stay protected under all circumstances. If someone acquires your private key, they can log in as you to any SSH server you have access to. The public key is what is placed on the SSH server, and may be shared without compromising the private key.

When using key authentication with an SSH server, the SSH server and client compare the public key for a user name provided against the private key. If the server-side public key cannot be validated against the client-side private key, authentication fails.

Multi-factor authentication may be implemented with key pairs by entering a passphrase when the key pair is generated (see user key generation below). During authentication the user is prompted for the passphrase, which is used along with the presence of the private key on the SSH client to authenticate the user.

Host key generation

Public keys have specific ACL requirements that, on Windows, equate to only allowing access to administrators and System. On first use of sshd, the key pair for the host will be automatically generated.

You need to have OpenSSH Server installed first. Please see Getting started with OpenSSH.

By default the sshd service is set to start manually. To start it each time the server is rebooted, run the following commands from an elevated PowerShell prompt on your server:

Since there is no user associated with the sshd service, the host keys are stored under C:\ProgramData\ssh.

User key generation

To use key-based authentication, you first need to generate public/private key pairs for your client. ssh-keygen.exe is used to generate key files and the algorithms DSA, RSA, ECDSA, or Ed25519 can be specified. If no algorithm is specified, RSA is used. A strong algorithm and key length should be used, such as Ed25519 in this example.

To generate key files using the Ed25519 algorithm, run the following from a PowerShell or cmd prompt on your client:

This should display the following (where “username” is replaced by your user name):

You can press Enter to accept the default, or specify a path and/or filename where you would like your keys to be generated. At this point, you’ll be prompted to use a passphrase to encrypt your private key files. This can be empty but is not recommended. The passphrase works with the key file to provide two-factor authentication. For this example, we are leaving the passphrase empty.

Now you have a public/private Ed25519 key pair in the location specified. The .pub files are public keys, and files without an extension are private keys:

Remember that private key files are the equivalent of a password should be protected the same way you protect your password. To help with that, use ssh-agent to securely store the private keys within a Windows security context, associated with your Windows login. To do that, start the ssh-agent service as Administrator and use ssh-add to store the private key.

After completing these steps, whenever a private key is needed for authentication from this client, ssh-agent will automatically retrieve the local private key and pass it to your SSH client.

It is strongly recommended that you back up your private key to a secure location, then delete it from the local system, after adding it to ssh-agent. The private key cannot be retrieved from the agent providing a strong algorithm has been used, such as Ed25519 in this example. If you lose access to the private key, you will have to create a new key pair and update the public key on all systems you interact with.

Deploying the public key

To use the user key that was created above, the contents of your public key (

\.ssh\id_ed25519.pub) needs to be placed on the server into a text file, the name and location of which depends on whether the user account is a member of the local administrators group or a standard user account.

The contents of your public key (

\.ssh\id_ed25519.pub) needs to be placed on the server into a text file called authorized_keys in C:\Users\username\.ssh\. The OpenSSH client includes scp, which is a secure file-transfer utility, to help with this.

The example below copies the public key to the server (where “username” is replaced by your user name). You will need to use the password for the user account for the server initially.

Administrative user

Symptoms

In some organizations, there are regular backup procedures for Enterprise Windows Certificate Authority. If there’s a server problem (software/hardware), you may need to reinstall the Enterprise Windows Certificate Authority. Before you can reinstall the Enterprise Windows Certificate Authority, you may need to manually delete objects and data that belong to the original Enterprise Windows and reside in the Windows Active Directory.

Cause

Enterprise Windows Certificate Authority saves the configurations settings and data in the Windows Active Directory.

Resolution

A. Backup:

You’re recommended to back up all the nodes that contain Active Directory-related data before and after you follow this procedure, including:

  • Windows Domain Controllers
  • Exchange Servers
  • Active Directory Connector
  • Windows Server with Services for Unix
  • ISA Server Enterprise
  • Enterprise Windows Certificate Authority

Use the following procedure as last resort. It may affect your production environment, and may require to restart some nodes/services.

B. Active Directory Clean:

Log on into the system with an account that has the permissions bellow:

  1. Enterprise Administrator
  2. Domain Administrator
  3. Certificate Authority Administrator
  4. Schema Administrator (The server that function as Schema Master FSMO should be online during the process).

To remove all Certification Services objects from Active Directory:

Start “Active Directory Sites and Services“.

Select the “View” menu option, and select “Show Services” Node.

Expand the “Services“, and then expand “Public Key Services“.

Select the “AIA” node.

In the right-hand pane, locate the “certificateAuthority” object for your Certification Authority. Delete the object.

Select the “CDP” node.

In the right-hand pane, locate the Container object for the server where Certification Services is installed. Delete the container and the objects it contains.

Select the “Certification Authorities” node.

In the right-hand pane, locate the “certificateAuthority” object for your Certification Authority. Delete the object.

Select the “Enrollment Services” node.

In the right-hand pane, verify that the “pKIEnrollmentService” object for your Certification Authority, delete it.

Select the “Certificate Templates” node.

In the right-hand pane, delete all the Certificate Templates.

Delete all the Certificate Templates only if no other Enterprise CAs are installed in the forest. If the templates are inadvertently deleted, restore the templates from backup.

Select the “Public key Services” node and locate the “NTAuthCertificates” object.

If there are no other Enterprise or Stand-alone CAs installed in the forest, delete the object, otherwise leave it alone.

Use “Active Directory Sites and Services” or ” Repadmin ” command from the Windows resource kit to force replication to the other domain controllers in the domain/forest.

Domain Controller Cleanup

Once the CA has been taken down, the certificates that have been issued to all the domain controllers need to be removed. It can be done easily by using DSSTORE.EXE from the Resource Kit:

Certutil.exe will attempt to validate all the DC certificates issued to the domain controllers. Certificates that fail to validate will be removed. clients refresh their security policy, they’ll automatically download the new root certificate into their trusted root stores. o force application of the security policy.

At the command prompt, type gpupdate /target: computer .

If the Enterprise Windows Certificate Authority published computer/user certificate or other types of certificates (Web Server Certificate, and so on), it’s recommended that you remove the old certificates before you reinstall the Enterprise Windows Certificate.

You may need to retrieve the Windows 10 product key if you want to transfer the license to another PC. Or if you want to activate the Windows 11 using the previous version of Windows.

Microsoft offers Windows 10 licenses through different channels, commonly, it could be a retail license or OEM license. There are different ways to retrieve the key depending on Windows 10 license type.

Find Windows 10 License Type

First, you need to find the activation status of your Windows 10 PC.

1. Go to Start and open Settings, navigate to System.

2. Select Activation from the left options and you will find license details.

Product Key– Windows 10 will have a product key in these cases-

  • When you buy a PC that came with Windows 10
  • Windows 10 bought from Microsoft online store.
  • Buying digital or box copy from authorised reseller

Now, depending on the license type, you may or may not find the actual product key. However, you should try these methods.

Retrieve Windows 10 Product Key Using Command Prompt

If Windows 10 is activated using a product key then you can find it using the command prompt.

1: Go to the Windows Search Bar, type “CMD”, right-click to Run as administrator.

2: Type the following command and hit enter:

That’s it, this command will display the product key in the Command Prompt.

If you do not see a Product Key, or if the result is blank it means that you are using a digital license / OEM License.

Also, this method is deprecated with the latest build of Windows 10. But you can still try.

1. Go to Start and search for PowerShell.

2. Right-click on it and “Run as Administrator“.

Via Registry Editor

Windows stores the product key in the registry database, you can get the key from the registry editor.

1. Go to Start and search for regedit.

2. RIght click on Registry Editor and click “Run as Administrator“.

3. You will get the registry editor, navigate to the following path by expanding the folder tree.

Once you navigate to the given path, select “SoftwareProtectionPlatform” and check the registry keys on the right-pane.

Check the value for the “BackupProductKeyDefault” registry key. Double click on it and copy the value data, this 25 digit string is the product key.

This will work in both cases if your PC is activated using a key or have a digital license.

Using Third-Party Software

If the above methods aren’t working for you, it is recommended to use a third-party tool. One such tool is KeyFinder by Magical Jelly Bean. The tool is lightweight and the publisher is verified by Microsoft.

  • First download and install ProductKeyFinder.
  • Once installed, run the program.
  • Open the ProduKey application.
  • Now you will see the CD key listed here.

That’s it! This way you can get the product key embedded in system firmware.

If you bought at laptop with pre-activated version of Windows 10 then most probably it will be a digital license, manufacture will embed the key in system UEFI/BIOS. Such keys are not transferable.

For digital license – You don’t need to supply the product key to activate Windows 10 or Windows 11 on same PC, just link your Microsoft account to Windows 10 before upgrade.

Other Ways to Get Windows 10 Product Key

Let’s say that you do not have access to the activated Windows. There could be several cases like you might have bought a new computer, or a new Windows 10 copy, etc. Then there are a few possibilities of finding the product key:

If You Have Just Bought a New PC Running Windows 10

In that case, you should find the Windows 10 Product Key preinstalled. You can find it inside the packaging of the computer or in the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) attached to the PC. You can also contact the seller from whom you bought the computer for help.

If You Buy Windows 10 From Authorized Seller

In case you buy Windows 10 from an authorized seller, you will have the product key inside the packaging. Just make sure that you do not throw the box or contents inside it right away.

If You Buy Digital Copy of Windows 10 From An Authorized Seller

When you buy a digital copy of Windows 10 from any authorized seller, you receive the product key in your email. You can always look inside the spam folder too if you face any problems.

If You Buy Windows 10 From Microsoft Store

Well, if you buy Windows 10 from Official Microsoft Store then there should be no problem. You will get your product key in the registered email account. Additionally, you can also find the product key on the Orders History page of the Microsoft Account you used to buy Windows 10.

You can use the key to re-activate Windows 10 on the same PC if you have a digital license. It won’t work if you have changed the motherboard.

If your PC was activated using the 25 digit product key, then it is transferrable, you just need to deactivate it on the old PC.

Open the command prompt as admin and type “wmic path softwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey not working” and hit enter to see the product key.

If Windows 10 is activated using OEM / Digital License the above command will show a blank result. In this case, link your Microsoft account to Windows 10 for an upgrade.

Summary

Users can connect to a remote access server through a dial-up connection or a virtual private network (VPN) connection.

A dial-up connection requires both the server and the client computer to have a correctly configured modem. The client and the server connect over analog public telephone networks. To enhance the security of a dial-up connection, use data encryption, Windows logon and domain security, remote access policies and callback security.

A VPN connection is made over a public network, for example the Internet, and uses Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), logon and domain security, and remote access policies to help secure the transfer of data.

The scenarios that are described in this article assume the following configurations:

  • For dial-up connection capability, the modems are configured on the server.
  • For VPN capability, the server has two network adapters, with one of them connected directly to the Internet.
  • For VPN capability, PPTP is used for the VPN tunnel.
  • No routing protocols, such as Routing Information Protocol (RIP) or Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), are configured.

The following topics describes how to configure Routing and Remote Access Service in Windows Server 2003.

Turn on Routing and Remote Access Service

The Routing and Remote Access service is automatically installed during the installation of Windows Server 2003. By default, however, this service is turned off.

Turn on Windows Server 2003 Routing and Remote Access Service to allow dial-up connections or VPN connections

Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Routing and Remote Access.

In the console directory, click Your_Server_Name.

In the lower-right corner of the server icon next to Your_Server_Name, there is a circle that contains an arrow that indicates whether the Routing and Remote Access service is on or off:

  • If the circle contains a red arrow that points down, the Routing and Remote Access service is not turned on.
  • If the circle contains a green arrow that points up, the Routing and Remote Access service is turned on.

If the Routing and Remote Access service is turned on and you want to reconfigure the server, you must turn off the Routing and Remote Access service. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click Your_Server_Name, and then click Disable Routing and Remote Access.
  2. In the dialog box, click Yes.

Right-click Your_Server_Name, and then click Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access to start the Routing and Remote Access Server Setup Wizard.

Click Next, click Remote access (dial-up or VPN), and then click Next.

Click either VPN or Dial-up, depending on the role that you want to assign to this server.

Under How do you want IP addresses to be assigned to remote clients?, click either Automatically or From a specific range of addresses, and then click Next.

If you clicked Automatically, go to step 9.

If you clicked From a specific range of addresses, follow these steps:

  1. In the Address Range Assignment dialog box, click New.
  2. In the Start IP address box, type the first address of the range of IP addresses that you want to use.
  3. In the End IP address box, type the last address of the range of IP addresses that you want to use, click OK, and then click Next.

Click No, use Routing and Remote Access to authenticate connection requests, and then click Next.

Click Finish to turn on the Routing and Remote Access service and to configure the server as a Remote Access server.

Allow access to all users or individual users

Before users can connect to the server, you must configure the server to either accept all remote access clients or you must grant dial-in access permissions to individual users.

To allow the server to accept all remote access clients, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Routing and Remote Access.
  2. Double-click Your_Server_Name, and then click Remote Access Policies.
  3. Right-click Connections to Microsoft Routing and Remote Access server, and then click Properties.
  4. Click Grant remote access permission, and then click OK.

To grant dial-up access permission to individual users, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.
  2. Right-click the user account that you want to allow remote access, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Dial-in tab, click Allow access, and then click OK.
  4. Close the UserAccountProperties dialog box.

Troubleshoot

The number of dial-up modem connections depends on the number of modems that are installed on the server. If you have only one modem installed on the server, you can only have one modem connection at a time.

The number of VPN connections depends on the number of users that you want to allow access at one time. By default, 128 connections are permitted. To change this number, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Routing and Remote Access.
  2. Double-click Your_Server_Name, right-click Ports, and then click Properties.
  3. In the Ports Properties dialog box, click WAN Miniport (PPTP), and then click Configure.
  4. In the Maximum ports box, type the number of VPN connections that you want to allow.
  5. Click OK, click OK again, and then quit Routing and Remote Access.

With the growing list of products Apple offers, the number of devices connected to your Apple ID can get quite extensive. Why You Should Check Your Apple ID Device List

If you no longer have one of the listed devices, whether it was stolen, lost, sold, or given away, there’s no point in them being attached to your Apple ID. You may even find devices you don’t recognize at all. In these cases, it’s best to remove them.

From a security standpoint, if you’re not using the device anymore and have two-factor authentication set up for your Apple ID, it’s even more important to remove the devices as they can be used to receive 2FA verification codes when logging into Apple or iCloud services from a new device.

Items That Show Up in Your Apple ID Device List

Devices you can view and remove in your Apple ID account include almost every major Apple product: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV. AirPods are not included as those don’t connect to your Apple ID, even though they will show up in Find My iPhone so you can track them down if lost.

As far as non-Apple devices go, you can also view Windows 10 machines that you logged into iCloud with, such as a Surface Laptop 2 or Surface Go. Instead of viewing an image of the device, machines using Windows 10 and higher will have an icon with four gray diamonds inside a larger diamond shape.

Removing Items from Your Apple Device List

Deleting devices from your list can be done from iCloud.com, but this post will only focus on doing so from an iPhone as that will be the easiest way for most Apple users to remove devices from their account. This is most useful whenever you sell, give away, or just lose a device.

Don’t confuse this with the process of unlinking devices from your iTunes account, which is very similar, but an entirely different thing. Authorized devices with iTunes are just for iTunes, and you can authorize iTunes use on devices not your own, so removing them in iTunes won’t remove them from your Apple ID account.

Step 1: Open Your Apple ID Settings

Open up the Settings, then tap on your name, which houses all of your important Apple information, including Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes, and App Store preferences. Once you remove a device, it will never show up in your Apple device list again unless it connects back to the internet with your Apple ID logged in. Important Things to Consider When Removing Devices

If you’re giving the device to a family member, logging out of iCloud, iTunes, iMessage, FaceTime, and Game Center is probably good enough. When selling an Apple device like an iPhone or iPad, it’s good to wipe the device which will remove your Apple ID information and disable Find My iPhone and Activation Lock.

When it’s an Apple device that was lost or stolen, before you remove it from your Apple device list, you’ll want to use Find My iPhone to mark it as lost so that no one else can use it. Then, remote wipe it. That way, Activation Lock will prevent anyone who tries to log in to their own account on the device, a security measure meant to deter thieves and other purveyors of stolen goods.
