Don’t want the Emoji button on the iOS keyboard and wish it were gone? You can remove the Emoji button from the keyboard on iPhone and iPad, and by doing so you are effectively turning off Emoji in iOS so that it can’t be typed, nor can the Emoji keyboard be accessed. Disabling the Emoji button from the iOS keyboard can be desirable for many reasons, particularly if you accidentally hit the Emoji button and find that annoying, or if you simply never use Emoji and want to get rid of the smiley face button on the keyboard of iPhone or iPad.

We’ll show you how to remove the Emoji button from the iPhone and iPad keyboard, and also how to return the Emoji functionality back to the iOS Keyboard if you decide you want the Emoji button back again.

Note that if you remove the Emoji button from iOS keyboard then you will not be able to type Emoji on the iPhone or iPad because there is no longer any way to access the Emoji keyboard, unless you reverse this settings change.

How to Turn Off Emoji & Disable Emoji Button on iOS Keyboard

To remove the Emoji button from the keyboard, you must disable and remove the Emoji keyboard from iOS in general. Here’s how this is done:

Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad

Go to “General” and then to “Keyboard”

Now tap the (-) red minus button next to “Emoji”

Tap on the “Delete” button next to Emoji

  • Tap “Done” or exit Settings
  • Now if you open any app on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that allows you to type and shows a keyboard, like the Messages app, Notes, Pages, or anywhere else where typing in iOS is possible, you will find the Emoji button has been removed.

By removing the Emoji keyboard, you no longer have the Emoji button on the iOS keyboard, which means you can’t type Emoji on the device. Currently there is no way to remove the Emoji button from the keyboard without also removing the entire Emoji keyboard itself, which basically disables Emoji completely on the iPhone or iPad (though anyone can continue to send you Emoji, and your iOS device will continue to render and show Emoji).

If you’re turning off the Emoji button on iOS keyboard because you are accidentally hitting it, or because you never use it, or because you find the keyboard too cluttered, you might also appreciate removing the microphone button from the iPhone and iPad keyboard too. If you remove both the Emoji button and microphone button from the iOS keyboard, the space bar takes up the available space, and for some users they may find that easier to type with.

How do I get Emoji button back on the iPhone or iPad Keyboard?

If you disabled the Emoji button and Emoji keyboard but decide you want that smiling face button back so you can type your favorite Emoji again, you can enable the Emoji keyboard on iPhone or iPad again easily with these instructions or by doing the following:

    1. Open the “Settings” app then go to “General” and “Keyboard”
    2. Choose “Keyboards” then “Add New Keyboard” and select “Emoji” to add, this will return the Emoji button to the iOS keyboard

You must re-add the Emoji keyboard to the iOS Keyboard settings in order to regain access to the Emoji button on the keyboard of an iPhone or iPad, as well as to regain access to the Emoji keyboard in iOS and the smiley face button.

Like basically all settings in iOS, these changes are easily reversed and adjusted at anytime.

In many apps, when you tap the emoji button on the iPhone keyboard, the left-most area is occupied by Memoji. Secondly, there are app icons for Animoji and Stickers on top of the keyboard inside iMessage. Like me, if you hardly use Memoji, you may wish to remove them. Let me show you the two methods to alter.

How To Remove Frequently Used Memoji Stickers From Emoji Keyboard

You see Memoji in the FREQUENTLY USED section of emoji keyboard inside iMessage, third-party chat apps, and even Notes. Here is how to get rid of Memoji from the keyboard.

    1. Open the Settings app
    2. Tap on General.
    3. Tap on Keyboard. How to remove the emoji button from the iphone keyboard

In case you want them back, follow the same steps as above and turn ON the toggle in step 4.

How To Remove Memoji Stickers from iMessage Keyboard

Message Keyboard has a row on top. It has Apple as well as third-party iMessage apps. Here you will see Memoji Stickers (three faces). Again, if you are like me, you may find them unnecessary. So, here is how to hide Memoji from iMessage.

    1. Open the Messages app
    2. Tap on any conversation. How to remove the emoji button from the iphone keyboard
    3. Swipe right to left on the row of apps. Tap on More icon (three dots) from the end.How to remove the emoji button from the iphone keyboard
    4. Tap on Edit.
    5. Tap on the red minus button for Memoji Stickers. Next, tap on Remove from Favorites. How to remove the emoji button from the iphone keyboardNote: This option is removed from favorites, but they will still be there above the keyboard. The next step shows you how to completely turn them off
    6. Now, from under MORE APPS, toggle off for Animoji and Memoji Stickers. This will fully hide Memoji inside iMessage
    7. Tap on Done from the upper right. Again tap on Done from the upper left. How to remove the emoji button from the iphone keyboard

The icons for memoji will no longer be visible above the keyboard.

This means from now you can not send Memoji. However, this will not affect Memojis sent previously. They will still be visible to you (and the receiver). Additionally, if someone sends you Memoji in a conversation, you will still be able to view it.

If someday you feel like using them, simply follow the process above and turn on the toggle for Animoji and Memoji Stickers.

With iOS 11, Apple introduced animated emoji characters called Animoji that are meant to mimic your facial expressions. Since then, Animoji has evolved into Memoji, which are customizable humanoid Animoji characters that you can design to look like you. For those who don’t want them there, Apple will allow removing Memoji stickers from the iPhone and iPad keyboard.

Starting with iOS 13.3, Apple added an option to prevent memoji stickers from appearing on emojis you use frequently on iPhone and iPad. Emoji have taken over the world, so there’s a good chance that you regularly use (or overuse) emoji on your iPhone’s keyboard just like everybody else. But before emoji was popular, there were smileys, AKA emoticons, and iOS has a secret emoticon keyboard just waiting for you to unlock.

Emoticons may not be the bright, colorful icons we’ve come to love on smartphones, but they’re equally cute expressions with many possibilities and looks that emoji just hasn’t come up with yet. “Shrug” (¯\_(?)_/¯) was possibly the most used typographical symbol in the past until Apple added the shrugging emoji.

Normally, you would type emoticon expressions out manually, but your current typing keyboard might not even have all the Unicode characters to complete every emote out there. Copy/pasting from the internet was an OK option too, but just too much work to keep doing over and over. Another way to type out emoticons more easily was to assign them to keyboard shortcuts.

If you plan on diving into emoticons to complement your emoji skills, nothing beats the convenience of a built-in emoticon keyboard. And if you’re asking yourself why you’ve never seen or heard of this iPhone keyboard before, it’s probably because you don’t speak Japanese.

Step 1: Add the Kana or Romaji Keyboard

Open the Settings app, then navigate to General –> Keyboard –> Keyboards –> Add New Keyboard. Scroll down the list of keyboards, then select “Japanese.” You’ll see two options — “Kana” and “Ramaji” — and either will work. Both translate Japanese characters into Romanized characters English-speakers would recognize, and it might be smart to install both since some emoticons aren’t on both. Once selected, tap “Done” to exit back to the Keyboards page.

If you want to switch the order of your keyboards, which will change throughout iOS, tap “Edit,” then tap-and-hold the three lines on the keyboard you want to move, then drag it to where you want. Tap “Done” to save the changes.

Step 2: Access the Emoticon Section

Now that you have the keyboard set up, you’re ready to select and send emoticons to anyone you wish. Open up any app that you can type in, like Messages, then tap where needed to bring up the keyboard. If you set the Kana or Romaji language as your default keyboard, it should appear immediately.

If it doesn’t open immediately, long-press the globe icon in the bottom left, then slide up and select the Japanese keyboard. You could also tap the globe until you reach the right keyboard.

    Option 1: Kana Keyboard

For Kana, tap the “^_^” key to access the secret emoticon keyboard, then hit the drop-down button (down arrow) at the top to expand the full list of emoticons.

    Option 2: Romaji Keyboard

For Romaji, tap “123,” followed by the “^_^” key, and then hit the drop-down button (down arrow) at the top to expand the full list of emoticons.

Step 3: Add Emoticons Like Never Before

If you don’t expand the full list of emoticons, you can swipe left on the row to view more. However, there are too many emoticons, so it’s easier to tap the down arrow (?) to expand the list and browse vertically.

When you find an emoticon you like, tap on it. The emoticon keyboard will disappear, and the emoticon itself will be loaded where you’re typing. You can delete any part of the emoticon you’d like to since it’s only made up of individual Unicode characters.

These keyboards don’t list all emoticons, just a decent selection of Eastern-style emoticons called “kaomoji,” Western ones, and some anime-style emoticons. Characters in each emoticon, some of which are syllabograms and glyphs, come from many different character sets such as hiragana, katakana, kanji, and Greek and Cyrillic alphabets, along with other types of symbols.

The Kana and Romaji keyboards may have some of the same static emoticons, but there are also different ones, so having both might be a good idea if you want more variety.

“Memoji Stickers” are spot-on for a fun-filled conversation. With a variety of hilarious designs, they have (kind of) become one of my top picks for keeping the mood of the chat joyful. That said, some users might find them a little too obtrusive in the frequently used section of the emoji picker of the QuickType keyboard. It would have been better had Apple placed it at a different location. Nevertheless, the company has offered a way to remove Memoji Stickers from the keyboard on the iPhone and iPad. So, depending on your convenience, you can keep them out of sight or allow them to show up in the default keyboard as usual. The choice is yours.

Completely Remove Memoji Stickers from Keyboard on iOS 13 and iPadOS 13

The option to hide the Memoji stickers is slightly buried into the Settings. But before getting started with the steps, do note that it is available only in the iOS 13.3 or later . So, be sure your device is running the right software. Having said that, let me guide you through!

Step 1: Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

Step 2: Now, tap on General and choose Keyboard.

Step 3: Under the Emoji section, turn off the switch for Memoji Stickers.

That’s it! Now, quit the Settings app. The change will come into effect instantly. To check out, simply bring up the default keyboard inside any app like Messages. The Memoji stickers will be gone. As it’s an opt-in feature, you can unhide the stickers, if you ever want to get them back. To do so, repeat the same steps mentioned above and then turn on the switch in the end.

Hide Memoji Stickers from Keyboard Without Going into Settings

What if you don’t want to completely get rid of the Memoji stickers from the default keyboard? Well, there is a smart hack through which lets you hide them without having to disable them completely. Simply bring up the emoji keyboard by tapping on the smiley icon. Then, swipe left until the Memoji stickers are hidden. Then, force quit the app. Now, bring up the emoji keyboard. Check out, the Memoji Stickers will be hidden and you need to swipe left to reveal them.

Disable Memoji Stickers in Message’s App Settings

This trick is for the folks who want to remove the funny characters from Favorites. If you are one of those who hate to see these characters, simply swipe right on the iMessage app drawer > More (…) > Edit. Now, tap on the red button to the left of Memoji Stickers and hit Remove from Favorites. In the end, make sure to tap on Done to finish.

I love that Apple is giving users more and more control over iMessage. With iOS 13, the company not only launched super useful text editing gestures but also allows users to share their image and name when sending messages to someone. And now with iOS 13.3, there’s a method to disable Memoji stickers. All these choices allow iPhone users to control iMessage just the way they want to and that is just great.

Keep Memoji Stickers Away from Your Keyboard

So, that’s how you can keep the Memoji stickers away from your emoji keyboard. Memoji stickers are the sort of feature that brings joy to those who are into messaging and like using cool stickers. But people who use stickers only once in a blue moon may not find them exciting. That’s probably the prime reason why Apple has offered an option to disable it.

We have previously written about enabling the emoji keyboard on your iPhone, but this article is about enabling a slightly different one for the Bitmoji app. This keyboard is part of the Bitmoji app, and allows you to easily send Bitmojis through text messages. The installation and Bitmoji-creation process will ask you to enable the keyboard and give the Bitmoji keyboard full access, but it is possible to skip it.

Apple really wants you to love Memoji. There’s just one problem: They’re awful, and I want them off my iMessage keyboard.

The animated stickers were first added to iMessage in 2018, however, at the time they were only available to people rocking an iPhone X. That changed with the introduction of iOS 13, which added the ability to make Memoji stickers to most (if not all) iPhones. Unfortunately for people like me who have never used Memoji and want nothing to do with them, this update also stuck them in the “FREQUENTLY USED” section of the emoji keyboard.

In other words, you may find yourself accidentally clicking on these graphic abominations even if you have no desire to ever use them. They take up valuable real estate on our smartphones, and we should have the option at the very least remove them from the “FREQUENTLY USED” portion of the keyboard.

How to remove the emoji button from the iphone keyboard

Thankfully, there’s a way to mostly banish Memoji to the digital hellscape they deserve. It’s not at all intuitive, however.

I was reminded of this fact by a Thursday tweet from the wonderful New York Times technology reporter Mike Isaac. He too, like myself, was struggling with the unwanted presence of Memoji.

“how do i stop the ‘memoji’ from popping up every time I go to the emoji keyboard bc i hate my memoji,” he wrote.

I reached out to Apple directly in an attempt to determine if I could get rid of Memoji entirely, but received no immediate response. Thankfully, though, you can hide them by default.

To do so, follow these steps:

Click into a random conversation thread

Swipe on the app icons until you see the bubble with three dots and then tap it

Deselect “Memoji” from both the “FAVORITES” and the “MORE APPS” section

Going forward, when you select the emoji option on your iMessage keyboard you will no longer be presented with Memoji stickers by default.

Importantly, they are still lurking about and ready to pounce. All you need do is swipe left or tap the “FREQUENTLY USED” clock icon a second time and they will reappear.

With iOS 11, Apple introduced animated emoji characters called Animoji that are meant to mimic your facial expressions. Since then, Animoji has evolved into Memoji, which are customizable humanoid Animoji characters that you can design to look like you. Along with new iOS 13 features and changes, Memoji stickers have been introduced to appear in the commonly used emoji selection section on the default keyboard. For those who don’t want them there, Apple will allow removing Memoji stickers from the iPhone and iPad keyboard.

These characters are also available in iOS 13 as memoji stickers, which appear in the frequently used emoji selection on the default virtual keyboard. If you don’t use them often enough to find their appearance on the emoji keyboard useful, now there’s a way to get rid of them. Starting with iOS 13.3, Apple added an option to prevent memoji stickers from appearing on emojis you use frequently on iPhone and iPad. Make sure you’re running iOS 13.3, and then follow the steps below to disable them.

How to Remove Memoji Stickers from Keyboard on iPhone/iPad

The message pad has a row at the top. It contains iMessage apps from both Apple and third parties. Here you can see memoji stickers (three faces). If you are like me, you may find them unnecessary. This is how you can hide Memoji from iMessage.

    • Open the Messages app
    • Play any conversation.
    • Swipe from right to left across the row of apps. Tap the Plus icon (three dots) from the bottom.
    • Tap Edit.
    • Tap the red minus button for Memoji stickers. Then tap Remove from favourites.
    • Now from MORE APPS turn off Animoji and Memoji Stickers. This will completely hide Memoji within iMessage
    • Tap Done at the top right. Tap Done again in the top left corner.

    1. An email field set as keyboardType = .EmailAddress still allows emojis
    2. You may have more than one condition you want to filter

This is how we did it:

    Edit

Okay the solution with NSASCIIStringEncoding is no good if you want to allow certain characters for other languages.

    Some letters blocked with NSASCIIStringEncoding:

    • All other versions of a: àáâäæãåā
    • All other versions of e: èéêëēėę
    • All other versions of o: ôöòóœøōõ

Using NSASCIIStringEncoding is not a good idea if you want to support users from other countries!

    I also tried NSISOLatin1StringEncoding:

    • Blocked versions of a: ā
    • Blocked versions of e: ēėę
    • Blocked versions of o: œø

    This is much better clearly.

    I also tried NSISOLatin2StringEncoding:

    • Blocked versions of a: àæãåā
    • Blocked versions of e: èêēė
    • Blocked versions of o: òœøōõ

    Edit2:

    The following seems to work:

The solution that worked for me :

The emoji keyboard won’t be available with that KeyboardType.

But it’s compulsory to check the kind of every char added in the textField, because the user can copy an emoji from elsewhere then paste it in.

Here is how you could do so :

Be warned that, as I read in another post, this might also prevent user from using keyboard with special characters, like the Chinese one.

Though The Question is super old, I was Facing the same problem and was able to resolve it by the time this page loaded by this small trick :

    This is swift version.

I wanted an answer for Swift 3.0 that would work on shouldChangeTextInRange and came up with the following that is really simple and can handle any language you throw at it (I include a photo using Chinese to demonstrate).

The guard statement unwraps the optional text, and the return statement checks to see if it pulled out a value that satisfied the trimmingCharacters check. If there is a value (meaning it is not part of the current devices’s input language), then it will not be empty, so the method returns false and does not allow the character to be entered.

This relies on Apple’s CharacterSet.alphanumerics , so there is no need to maintain and update a list of approved characters, unless you want to add or remove items.

    Yay for language agnostic!

Another common use is for email, since the default email keyboard provides emojis. I found with a small modification, I was able to restrict characters to what I wanted for an email address to work.

How to remove the emoji button from the iphone keyboard

Most of us are used to using the standard emoji icons/emoticons available via the Unicode Consortium on different platforms. However, the same emoticons can get quite tiring after a little while, and you’ll want something different and more expressive.

On your iPhone, your Japanese keyboard offers a secret keyboard of “Kaomojis.” Kaomojis are literally face emotions made using letters, numbers and symbols, mostly the same way it was done before emoji keyboards were invented. Something like this: (´?_?`)’

This is mostly made possible because the Japanese keyboard has many more characters available than the English (or many other) keyboards. And since the iPhone is super friendly, installing and using the Japanese Kaomoji keyboard is very easy. We’ve gone over how to install the keyboard and use it below.

    5. Once done, select “Kana” and tap on Done in the top-right corner.

Now you’ll see the Japanese (Kana) keyboard option in your list of keyboards.

    6. To use the Japanese Kamaoji keyboard in any text field, click on the Globe in the lower left corner. If you’re using Swiftkey, hold the Emoji icon and select “Switch To Other Keyboard.”

    7. Keep on tapping the globe until you get to the Japanese Keyboard. The number of taps will depend on how many keyboards you have installed on your iPhone and their level of preference (more on that later).

    8. Once you get to the Japanese keyboard, click on the “Smiley icon” in the bottom left corner, highlighted below:

    9. If everything’s going good, you’ll see a line of Kaomojis on the top of your keyboard. Select the arrow on the right side of your screen to open up the full offering of Kaomojis.

Type a word in messages, and predictive text will suggest the emoji that matches that word. Many people don’t want to replace a word, even with emoji as cute or useful as the smiley face, thinking, crying, or tears of joy emoji; they simply want to include the emoji after the word. Luckily, you can add emojis to your messages without opening the emoji keyboard, then avoid replacing the word with a simple tap of the space bar. The emoji will remain in your predictive text suggestions and you can easily select the emoji to appear right after the word for it. I’ll show you what I mean below; here’s how to prevent emojis from replacing words in Messages.

How to Prevent iPhone Emojis from Replacing Words in the Messages App

We’ve written several tips about the iPhone emoji keyboard, including emoji meanings, how to find the right emoji, and how to use emoji shortcuts. Now we’ll go over how to stop emojis from replacing words in your text messages. First, you need to make sure Predictive text is turned on. If you don’t use Predictive text and you don’t want the option to type a word and get a suggestion for the emoji that matches it, you can also use this tip to turn Predictive text off completely.

    1. Open the Settings app.
    2. Tap General.

    1. Open the Messages app.
    2. In the text box of a conversation thread, type the word you want to use. If there is an emoji that goes along with it, it will appear below the text box with the other predictive text.
    3. If you type the word and tap the emoji, it will replace the word.

While the stock keyboard on iPhone might suffice the basic needs of most, it still misses out on some key features. One such important yet missing feature is the ability to resize the keyboard to accommodate larger or smaller hands. But the good news is that there are a few workarounds to this problem that can help you resize the keyboard on your iPhone to be bigger or even smaller. In this post, we’ll go through all of them. So, let’s get right into it.

How to Make iPhone Keyboard Bigger

There’re a couple of ways you can go about increasing the size of the keyboard on your iPhone. One is by tweaking the display settings on your iPhone and the other one involves switching to a third-party keyboard app.

    1. Enable Display Zoom

While your iPhone might not give you an option to increase the keyboard size, it does, however, carry a handy Display Zoom feature that can increase the size of every element on display including the keyboard. Here’s how to enable it.

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to Display & Brightness.

    2. Under Display Zoom, tap on the View button. Now switch the view type to Zoomed and tap on the Set button in the top right corner.

Your iPhone will restart with the new zoom setting and all the elements including the text, icons, and the keyboard will be bigger than before. Here’s how the Standard view type looks when compared to the Zoomed view.

    2. Use a Third-Party Apps

Another way to increase the keyboard size on your iPhone is by switching to another keyboard app. There’re plenty of third-party keyboard apps available on the App Store such as ReBoard, Big Keys, Typewise, etc. that offer bigger keys. Out of those, ReBoard seems to be the best free resizeable keyboard app for your iPhone.

You can download and install the Reboard app from the App Store. Once installed, here’s how you change the default keyboard on your iPhone.

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone and navigate to General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard.

    2. Here, under Third-Party Keyboards, select ReBoard and tap on Done.

    3. Now open any app that uses a keyboard. Tap on the globe icon in the bottom left and select ReBoard from the pop-up menu that appears.

Once you’ve switched to the ReBoard as the default keyboard on your iPhone, here’s how to increase its size.

    1. Open the ReBord Keyboard and tap on the gear icon in the bottom row.

    2. Next, tap on the + (plus) sign next to Keyboard Size and the size of the keyboard will increase.

Here’s how the larger keyboard looks like when compared to the standard one.

Now you can enjoy the bigger keyboard buttons on your iPhone without any difficulties. If you decide to revert to the default size, all you have to do is tap on the gear icon again and tap on the X sign next to the Keyboard Size.

How to Make iPhone Keyboard Smaller

If you’re using one of the larger models of the iPhone and have tiny hands like me, sometimes the default keyboard may seem too big for comfort. Luckily, you can also make the iPhone keyboard smaller with the methods mentioned below.

    1. Try One-handed Mode

Probably, the simplest way to make your keyboard smaller is by enabling the one handed-mode on your iPhone keyboard. Here’s how.

    1. Launch any app that uses the keyboard such as messages to launch the keyboard.

    2. Now tap and hold the globe icon below your keyboard and choose either the left-handed or right-handed layout.

That’s it. Now the size of the keyboard will remain the same but the keys on your iPhone’s keyboard will shrink, making it easier for you to type even with one hand.

    2. Use a Third-Party App

There’re only a handful number of keyboard apps that offer a smaller keyboard for iPhone. The ReBoard app that we mentioned earlier also allows us to decrease its size to accommodate smaller hands. Once you’ve installed and enabled the ReBoard app from the App Store, here’ how to decrease the size of the keyboard on iPhone.

    1. Open the ReBord Keyboard and tap on the gear icon in the bottom row.

    2. Next, tap on the (minus) sign next to Keyboard Size, and the size of the keyboard will decrease.

Here’s how the smaller keyboard looks like when compared to the standard one.

Again, if you decide to revert to its default size tap on the gear icon again and tap on the X sign next to the Keyboard Size.

How to change the language on the iPhone keyboard?

Your iPhone keyboard comes pre-loaded with about 80 foreign languages. You can switch to any of those languages by navigating to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard. Select a new language from the list and tap on Done.

How do I hide/minimize the keyboard on my iPhone?

You can easily hide or minimize the keyboard on iPhone by sliding your finger down from above the text entry box.

How to Delete Keyboard History on iPhone?

If you’re using the default keyboard on iPhone, you can delete the keyboard history from the Settings app. To do that, navigate to General > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary and tap on Reset Dictionary to confirm.

    Wrap Up: Resize iPhone Keyboard

That’s all there is to resize the keyboard on iPhone. You can pick any of the approaches mentioned above and easily resize the keyboard on your iPhone. Alternatively, you can also try some of these Bluetooth keyboards to improve your keyboard experience on your iPhone.

As early adopters began to experience the iPhone X for the first time this past weekend, many users took to the MacRumors forums, Reddit, and Twitter to discuss the gap that exists below the keyboard within iOS 11 on iPhone X. As some users pointed out, this space was likely meant as a way to more easily swipe up to go Home, and potentially for ergonomics reasons since a lower keyboard could be more difficult to type on, but many iPhone X owners are still getting used to the way the keyboard looks across all apps on the device.

How to remove the emoji button from the iphone keyboard

BuzzFeed, for example, wondered why Apple didn’t do more with this space, potentially including adding “common punctuation, frequently used emojis, or literally anything.”

It’s when the keyboard, in any app, is on screen (which, for me, is most of the time): There’s all this dead space on the bottom, where Apple could have put common punctuation, frequently used emojis, or literally anything, but instead left it blank. Other full-screen apps on other phones put navigation or other design elements in that area, and it doesn’t look crowded or crammed. It looks fine. It’s puzzling why Apple didn’t put something more useful down at the bottom, or why it didn’t add a row of numbers or emojis up top and push down the keyboard to make it more thumb-accessible.

Alex Muench, a UI/UX designer for apps like Todoist and Twist, went a step further and created a mockup of how this could look on future versions of iOS on the iPhone X. Muench likened this space on iPhone X to be a potential area for recently used emojis, “like Touch bar on Mac.”

Unused space on the iPhone X keyboard could be used for frequently used emojis like Touch bar on Mac. ‍♀️ pic.twitter.com/OZx48cSVWl — Alex Muench (@alexmuench) November 6, 2017

Don’t duplicate system-provided keyboard features. On iPhone X, the Emoji/Globe key and the Dictation key automatically appear beneath the keyboard—even when using custom keyboards. Your app can’t affect these keys, so avoid causing confusion by repeating them in your keyboard

The iPhone X comes with a variety of new interface gestures, features, and interactions that take some time getting used to following years of the traditional iPhone experience. Without a Home Button, unlocking the iPhone X requires you to swipe up from the bottom edge of the device, and also rearranges some physical commands like taking a screenshot by pressing the Side Button and Volume Up Button. For more information on Apple’s newest smartphone, check out our iPhone X Roundup.

My good friend Casey Liss was casting about for an answer to the question that has perplexed many an iPad user: if they use a Bluetooth keyboard–such as Apple’s Magic Keyboard or my favorite, the Logitech K811–how can they still access Apple’s emoji picker from said keyboard, without resorting to tapping the screen? Apple’s own Smart Keyboards have a dedicated key for switching the onscreen keyboards, but others, not so much.

Good news! There is a way. On any Bluetooth keyboard, just hit Control-Spacebar to bring up an onscreen keyboard switcher. (Make sure the cursor is in a text field; it doesn’t seem to work otherwise.) You can then either hit Control-Spacebar to switch between various keyboards, or use the Up and Down arrows on the keyboard.

How to remove the emoji button from the iphone keyboard

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a way to navigate the emoji picker via an external keyboard, so you’ll still need to use the touchscreen for that part. It would be nice to see that functionality added along with, say, a search box or something. Maybe in iOS 10.

How to Uninstall Emoji Home App on Android

Similar to Emoji Launcher, Emoji Home is another bogus app that adds a lot of bloatware to your phone. The app is intruding such that it completely hides the uninstall option when you try to remove it from the app drawer. You will see the uninstall button when removing other apps though. This is outright pathetic and it is best to get rid of such apps.

To remove Emoji Home, follow the steps below.

    1. Swipe up from the bottom of the home screen to open the app drawer.
    2. Look for the Emoji app. Then press and hold the Emoji icon and tap ‘App info’. How to remove the emoji button from the iphone keyboard

We’re often told that emojis are becoming a new language full of subtlety and subtext – in fact, “emoji translator” is now even a real-world job. Seriously. But what if you’re not buying it and are heartily sick of 😂, 😘 and, of course, 🍆? Luckily, if you’re an iPhone user, getting rid of the little blighters is a 🍰. Here’s how to disable emojis on your iPhone or iPad.

First, a caveat. Although the following steps will remove emojis from your iOS keyboard, people will still be able to pester you with them to you via SMS, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and so on. 😭

There are a couple of tools (such as Nomoji) online that promise to completely block emojis, but they only work with “jailbroken” phones and are likely to cause more problems than they solve 😡. So you can never truly escape – unless you revert to a cheap dumbphone or delete all of the messaging apps that use them .

How to disable emojis on your iPhone

To bin emojis from your iPhone keyboard, head to the Settings app and tap General. Select Keyboards and then choose Keyboards at the top of the menu. Note that the process is exactly the same if you’re using an iPad.

This will bring up a list of most probably two keyboards (English (United Kingdom) and Emoji). Click Edit and tap the Emoji listing. This will bring up an ominous red circle.

Tap it and, hey presto, you’ll no longer have emojis on your iPhone keyboard 🎉🥂🙌🔥.

To reverse the process, you’ll have re-add the emoji keyboard to your list. Tab through to Settings | General | Keyboard | Keyboards and then Select Add New Keyboard. Then it’s simply a case of scrolling down to Emoji and peppering your messages with faces again. The future is now.

While the basic iPhone keyboard is adequate for most people, you have a lot of additional options.

The iPhone comes with dozens of foreign language keyboards, which you can enable and use any time you need to type in a different language.

And that’s not all – you can install third-party keyboards and use them instead. Some keyboards feature alternate key layouts, additional emoji, or even “swipe” style input where you slide your finger around the keyboard instead of tapping specific keys.

Start an app that you can type in, like Messages or Mail. You should see a new button shaped like a globe at the bottom left of the screen. You can use the button in two ways:

    • Tap it. Every time you tap the button, it will cycle you through the available keyboards, from the default to Emoji, to the newly added keyboard, back to the default, and so on.
    • Tap and hold. If you tap and hold the globe, you’ll see a pop-up menu from which you can choose the keyboard you want to use with a tap.

Apple may have been releasing iPhones with larger displays of late, but that hasn’t stopped users from accidentally tapping the microphone button on the iOS keyboard when typing something quickly. Those with thicker fingers are likely to be familiar with this annoyance. The problem is even more apparent on iPhones with smaller displays.

Thankfully, this microphone button, which is there for voice dictation functionality, can be enabled or disabled at will. If you are someone who doesn’t make use of the voice dictation functionality in iOS, it’s perhaps better to remove the button altogether. Disabling this functionality will not only remove the microphone button, but will also widen the spacebar, making typing experience much better than before.

How to remove the emoji button from the iphone keyboard

The method to remove the microphone button (voice dictation functionality) from the stock keyboard is rather simple, and can be achieved by even the most novice of users, and similarly be added back with ease if ever needed.

Here’s how you can go about it.

Step 1: To begin, launch the Settings.app, and head to General > Keyboard.

Step 2: In the Keyboard settings, scroll down and turn the toggle to off for “Enable Dictation” option. This will disable the voice dictation functionality and remove the microphone button from the software keyboard.

Thats it! You can now close Settings.app, and then test out the keyboard in any app of your choice. As mentioned earlier, you will see that not only has the microphone button been removed, but the spacebar will now be wider as well than it was before.

Now in case you ever need the dictation functionality back, you can always go back to Settings > General > Keyboard on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and turn on the toggle for Enable Dictation.
