Instagram is the most used social media these days, and many people enjoy spending time on it. Happily, it has been adding new features every other month, but sometimes it makes its users sad by having some bugs. You can read Bugs and Fixes if you want to know how to fix other bugs too.
You can go to InoSocial.com and search for any bugs or problems you have on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Many people and businesses are using Instagram for different reasons such as having fun, learning, advertising, marketing, etc. that they don’t expect to face any problem on it.
Unfortunately, In s tagram users have noticed that their direct messages have disappeared lately, and they are looking for its reason and also looking for a way to fix it.
There are several reasons which might cause a direct message to disappear. You may have experienced the moment that you wanted to check your old Instagram direct messages or when you were in the middle of a chat but suddenly the messages disappeared!
Here are some possible ways that cause Instagram direct messages to be disappeared:
· The person who you are chatting with may have blocked you
One of the reasons that cause direct messages disappear, is blocking. When someone blocks you on Instagram, all the conversation between you will disappear automatically. Also, if someone blocks you on Instagram, you can’t see their account in Search too.
· The person you are chatting with may have unsent the message
Sometimes it would happen that you are chatting with someone and they regret about sending the message, or they may have sent it wrong, so they can easily unsent their messages. You can do the same with someone that you are chatting with too.
· Something may get wrong with your Internet connection
Internet connection problem has always made some problems not only for Instagram users but also for all the social media users. Sometimes I see a message notification on top of cellphone, but when I tap on it, there is nothing to see! Then I have to refresh my Instagram direct message page to see the received messages.
· They might have deactivated their Instagram account
It is not surprising if an Instagram user decides to deactivate their account temporarily or permanently. So that’s another reason for disappearing Instagram direct messages. You won’t see someone’s profile and direct messages if they have deactivated their account.
· They are not in your following list
You would get a direct message from someone who is not following you, and you would get the notification and see the message on your notification bar, but when you check your direct message page, you won’t see the message! Then you should check your “message requests” to see the message. Now you have the choice to “accept” or “decline.”
Note: “accepting” doesn’t mean that you are following them or vice versa. If you tap on the “accept” option, it means that you have accepted to chat with them.
Any of the problem mentioned above is possible if you don’t see direct messages on Instagram. You should just check to know which of them has happened to you. If your direct messages have disappeared because of an internet connection problem or because of the person who is not in your follower list, you still have the chance to read the message, but if the sender has unsent the message or they have deactivated their account, unfortunately, there is no way to see the messages.
Are you ready to leave Instagram yet?
If so, you’ll probably want to download an archive of your account, including the photos and videos you’ve uploaded to the service, any archived Stories, comments on your posts, instant messages and other data before closing your Instagram account permanently.
Thankfully, Instagram provides a very useful data-download tool realized as an easy to use web app which complies with the European Union’s new GDPR privacy laws.
The process requires that you manually submit a download request.
You’ll receive a download link via email. Download and unpack your archive and you’ll be able to freely browse all of the media you’ve shared, your Stories and a bunch of other items.
You can then choose to back up any items you’d like to keep forever, retain backups of what you’ve posted to Instagram, take your most popular Instagrams to another service and more.
How to download your Instagram account data
If you’ve ever requested an archive of your Facebook account, you’ll feel right at home.
1) Using your web browser, navigate to instagram.com/download/request.
TIP: Alternatively, log in at instagram.com, then click your profile image in the upper-right corner. Click the cog icon next to your user name, then choose Privacy & Security from the list. Finally, click the link Request Download underneath the headline Data Download.
2) Type the email address where you’d like to receive your download link, then click Next.
3) Enter your Instagram password, then click Request Download.
NOTE: Instagram can only work on one request from your account at a time.
You’ll see a message confirming Instagram is busy creating a file of things you’ve shared on the service. The system will send your download link to the email address you provided. Instagram notes that it may take up to 48 hours to prepare and collect your account data and create a downloadable archive so keep that in mind.
4) Check your inbox for any messages from Instagram regarding your download link. Upon receiving Instagram’s email, click the link Download Data at the bottom of the message.
5) You should land on a confirmation webpage. Click Download Data to proceed.
TIP: Your download link will only work for the next four days.
6) After your browser has finished downloading the file, open your Downloads folder or whichever custom folder you’ve designated as your destination for web downloads.
7) You’ll see a ZIP file with your user name in the title. Open it to unpack the archive.
8) Open the folder containing your unpacked Instagram account data.
You will see several sub-folders and some files with the .JSON extension at the root level.
You can find any media you’ve shared or exchanged with others in these sub-folders, including your photos and videos, archived Stories posted after December 2017, uploaded profile images, non-ephemeral Direct message photos and videos and more.
You’re advised to download your Instagram account data and media on a regular basis and back it up to Time Machine, an external disk, a USB thumb drive, iCloud Drive or a third-party cloud storage service like Dropbox, Google Drive, Box or OneDrive.
Your comments, likes and connections, uploaded contacts, the usernames of your followers and people you follow, the text of your instant messages, your profile information, searches you’ve conducted on Instagram, your post and Story captions, account settings, media meta data and other non-media items are stored in their separate JSON files.
Simply open a .JSON file in your text editor to access and analyze its underlying contents.
It’s also a good idea to keep your download link private because it may contain personal information. You should only download the archive to your own computer.
This feature is great if you want to leave Instagram for a similar service. Being able to download all your Instagrams means that your existing photos and videos will no longer be trapped inside one app when making a switch to a competing service.
Be sure to educate yourself on Instagram’s data-retention policy to learn when happens to your posts, interactions and other account data when you permanently close your account.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this tutorial, Instagram’s data-download tool is accessible to everyone on the web. Access via iOS and Android is still being worked on, but don’t worry—we’ll update this article with relevant sections as soon as it rolls out.

YOU may have a goldmine of messages on Instagram that you’ve never read.
They’re tucked away in an obscure inbox that’s a little tricky to find, so we’ve put together a guide to help you access it.
The messages are from people who you don’t follow on Instagram, and are logged as “message requests”.
For some reason, the app doesn’t send you a notification when you get one – and they don’t appear in your default inbox.
Instead, they crop up in a special “message requests” folder.
To find it, first open up the Instagram app on your smartphone.
Head to your direct messages by tapping the triangular icon at the top right of your screen.
If you have any message requests, they’ll appear under your search bar to the right of your normal DMs , with the title “[number] requests”.
Tap it to access your unread messages.
Clicking on the message requests will open the chat and allow you to accept or decline them.
You also have the option to block the sender’s account.
Instagram – the key facts
Here’s what you need to know.
- Instagram is a social network for sharing photos and videos
- It was created back in October 2010 as an iPhone-exclusive app
- A separate version for Android devices was released 18 months later
- The app rose to popularity thanks to its filters system, which lets you quickly edit your photos with cool effects
- When it first launched, users could only post square 1:1 ratio images, but that rule was changed in 2015
- In 2012, Facebook bought Instagram for $1billion in cash and stock
- In 2018, some analysts believe the app is worth closer to $100billion
- In October 2015, Instagram confirmed that more than 40billion photos had been uploaded to the app
- And in 2018, Instagram revealed that more than a billion people were using the app every month
Very much like browsing through your Facebook “Other” inbox, taking a peek at your Instagram DMs will probably unearth a few creepy messages.
A number of Instagram users have been left baffled about some of the odd messages they’ve received.
One Twitter user shared a screenshot of a stranger’s pool-side selfie that they’d sent direct to her Instagram inbox.
Another Instagram fan uploaded how a man reacted when she didn’t respond to his direct message, even though she doesn’t follow him back.
The man initially tried to woo her, gushing: “You are just so gorgeous.”
Sadly, when she didn’t respond, the irate Instagram user said: “Yeah ur f****** welcome a*******”.

Before explaining any alternative method to “How to See Old Direct Messages on Instagram”, remember that you can always check your old direct messages on the Instagram official App for mobiles. Without considering your operating system, Android or IOS, open your Instagram app, and in the top-right corner of your main feed tap the message icon.
If you are looking for a specific person, you can search for their name and then open your conservation with that person. Since scrolling and reading these messages on the computer would be much easier than on your phone, we’ll tell you how to see old direct messages on Instagram on PCs.
How to See Old Direct Messages on Instagram on PC
Unfortunately, there isn’t any official feature for Instagram direct messaging on the web version. Moreover, this feature is still unavailable on some powerful third-party Instagram management platforms, like Iconosquare. But fortunately, we found a complete, free desktop DM solution for Instagram. It’s called AiGrow.
With AiGrow, you can manage all your DMs, respond to them easily, send DMs with attached images and videos, search for messages from individual channels, and filter the inbox to show read, unread, or sent messages.
The best part is that unlike other desktop messaging apps, AiGrow is a complete, free desktop tool. It doesn’t require any download and works on all operating systems.
To see your old direct messages on Instagram, simply visit their website. Create your account, add your Instagram account, and you are done!
After you have added your IG accounts, hit “Manage Accounts”. Now, there are two features you can use to manage your DMs on Instagram.
With Inbox, you have full access to all your direct messages. Simply scroll your DMs to find your favourite message from who you want. You can also search for their name, and then you open up your chat with that person.
After opening your favourite message, simply click on load more to see all of your old messages, even the first one.
Also, if you have a message that you want to send to a large group of your followers, you can automate the process. Simply create your message, choose the people you want to send the message (current followers, new followers, or a custom list of followers), and press “Start”. AiGrow will start sending out your message automatically until it is sent to all recipients.
Find *everyone* who slid into your DMs.
Despite how many notifications you might have enabled on your phone, there could be more hiding in Instagram’s secret inboxes. Not familiar with Instagram’s Message Request inbox? The feature is not dissimilar to the “other” inbox on Facebook — you know, the place where you find long lost messages from distant relatives and people you have no mutual friends with and maybe met at a bar in Before Times.
Instagram’s special filters are for messages coming from accounts you don’t interact with, i.e. people who are likely strangers or potentially bots or scammers. Since Message Requests don’t trigger notifications, they may go unnoticed for quite some time. But since you probably want to know who’s sliding into your DMS, here’s how to get acquainted with your inboxes so that you don’t miss the messages you do want to see, and can easily delete the messages you don’t. Keep in mind that to ensure that messages that you do want to be notified about are not hidden, you’ll want to check your inboxes regularly.
Your Instagram DM inbox will show up a little differently depending on if you have a regular or professional account. With regular accounts, you’ll see if you have any message requests by toggling to your messages, and clicking on any “message request” fine print at the top of the page. (If you don’t have any message requests, this notification won’t show up.)
If you have a professional account, you’ll see three options: Primary, General, and Requests. The primary inbox is the only inbox that you will automatically receive notifications for. Think of this inbox as your main DM hub. If you prefer to minimize your notifications, you can turn them off in Settings, which will make it so that you only see you have new Primary messages when you’re on the app — the message icon on the upper right hand corner will have a pink number with the amount of unread messages you have. Messages will automatically live in your Primary inbox if they’re from people you follow.
The General tab like a holding cell for messages you don’t want to deal with right now. They might be messages that you want to keep unread until you have the time to address them, or messages from people that you don’t know, but plan on looking into at a later date. You can move messages or threads from Primary to General by tapping the information icon on the upper right corner of the message thread, and then tapping “Move to Primary.” You will not automatically be notified about messages in this folder, but if you want to be, you can turn notifications on in Settings.
When someone who you don’t follow messages you, it will go into your All Requests folder — the most secret folder of them all. You can find this to the right of the Primary and General tabs. You can either accept or deny these requests, and they won’t be marked as “seen” until you accept them, meaning, if you see a preview of a message from someone you don’t want to engage with, they won’t know that you’ve seen it. While this folder can hold spammy messages you’ll decide not to accept, it’s also the place a message from a potential new friend you don’t have mutuals with will go.
If you find someone in your Request folder who belongs in your Primary folder, you can move it into your Primary or General tabs so they don’t get lost in the shuffle again. To sort your requests, you can tap the filter button in All Requests and then tap Top Requests. If you have any requests from verified accounts, or accounts that Instagram thinks you might know, they will show up here and be organized by importance, not date. To clear this tab, you can accept, delete, or block.

Instagram Direct Message Disappeared
Think that you are chatting with an Instagram user and leave the chat for a while. Then when you reopen the app to see whether you have new messages from or not, you’ll find your messages disappeared. This may happen to all Instagram users. But the question is why an Instagram direct message disappeared? Actually, this may have so many reasons that we will review in the following.
1. Blocked by an Instagram user
One of the main reasons that Instagram direct message disappeared is that the other recipient that you were chatting with, has blocked you. Actually, this is one of Instagram’s privacy policies that help users protect their privacy whenever they want. When a user blocks another user, Instagram prevents both sides from accessing messages and chats. Therefore, when you are blocked or even you have blocked a person, you cannot see the conversation in your direct messages inbox.
To block some on Instagram, click here.
2. Unsending the message
If you noticed that one or some of the messages you have received (and not sent) has disappeared, there is a probability that the sender of the messages has unsent them.
This Instagram feature is really useful because you may have sent a DM by mistake. So you can easily delete it before seen. But you can use this feature differently. Imagine that you have sent some messages that you regret sending, and you don’t want to block that person or deactivate your account. Therefore, you can simply unsend your messages to keep your privacy. Moreover, it can be good to mention that you can unsend messages of all times, but there is no way to delete all of them at once.
So, if you notice that all the messages from a person have disappeared and your own messages are still there, and the other person has not blocked you, probably the messages have been unsent by the other user.
3. Received a disappearing message
An amazing Instagram feature is disappearing messages. Disappearing messages are messages that include photos or videoes. As we can understand from its name, it disappears after a while. Actually, when these messages disappear, they are just expired and you can not open the image or video anymore. But remember that you can see that you have received one of them before.
If you want to know how to send disappearing messages, click here.
4. Deactivated account
Another reason for Instagram direct message disappeared is that the person that you have chatted with, has deactivated account permanently. When you delete your Instagram account, all the data will be stored in your account. But they will be deleted permanently for other users. By deactivating, people cannot see your profile, follow or unfollow you, and sent messages to you. But, You can still see Instagram deleted accounts messages. You will not be able to see the profile name, but you can find the conversation with the “Instagrammer” id. Therefore, if your friend has deactivated their account, you can access their messages but not with their id. So, this means that the messages have not been disappeared, and you can still see them.
