Unlike Word, PowerPoint does not provide a Track Changes reviewing option. If you would like to track changes in a presentation, you should have the reviewer review a working copy of the presentation and then compare the two presentations.

This feature works the same in all modern versions of Microsoft PowerPoint: 2010, 2013, and 2016.

It may be useful to set, in that copy, the reviewer’s user name by selecting File > Options , and then on the General tab, under Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office , setting these options.

When the file has been reviewed:

  1. Open the reviewed file.
  2. Select the Review tab, and in the Compare group, select Compare .
  3. From the dialog box, locate the original copy, select it, and click Merge .
  4. The Comments and Revisions panes will open on the right, showing changes and any inserted comments.
  5. Select the revisions and you will see them noted in the presentation.
  6. Right-click the revision icon and select Accept Change to keep the change.
  7. Save the file to save the changes that were made.

Discarding Changes from Specific Users

You can reject a specific user’s changes when comparing the two files.

To reject a user’s changes:

  1. In the copy reviewed by that person, from the Review tab, select Reject and then select Reject All Changes to the Presentation .
  2. When you are done comparing the copies, select End Review from the Compare group.
  3. If you are sure all changes you want to make have been saved, select Yes in the pop-up that is displayed to end the review.

Managing Comments

As you are reviewing the changes to the document, you can also manage comments.

While Microsoft 365 subscribers can do real-time collaboration on PowerPoint presentations, some people prefer working independently and having that work reviewed and edited at a later date. Here’s how you can see and track what changed when the presentation comes back to you.

To track the changes that the reviewer of your Microsoft PowerPoint presentation made, you’ll need these two things:

  • A copy of the source file
  • A copy of the reviewed file

With those two items on hand, go ahead and open the reviewed file. Once open, go to the “Review” tab, then select “Compare” in the “Compare” group.

Now locate and select the source file that contains the original content before the review took place. Once chosen, click “Merge.”

PowerPoint doesn’t have a Track Changes feature like the one in Word, but you can receive comments and feedback from reviewers by first saving your presentation to your computer, and then posting a second copy to a shared location such as OneDrive or SharePoint. You can ask people to make changes and add comments to the shared copy. Once they are done, compare and merge the shared copy with the original saved on your computer.

Step 1: Send your presentation for review

Before people can review your presentation, it’s a good idea to save the original copy, and then post a second copy for them to review. Saving the original will give you something to compare changes with when everyone’s done reviewing.

Create a draft of the presentation and save a hard copy.

Save another copy of your presentation with a different name to a shared location, such as OneDrive or SharePoint.

In OneDrive or SharePoint, right-click the file and select Copy Link to get a link you can send in email to your reviewers.

Ask reviewers to add comments to your slides and to add their feedback to the presentation.

Step 2: Compare and merge two versions of the same file

When everyone is done reviewing the presentation you shared, you can review the changes and merge it with the copy you saved of the original.

Open the original version of the presentation that you saved on your computer.

Click Review > Compare, and then click Compare.

In the Choose File to Merge with Current Presentation box, find the version of your presentation that you saved to the shared location, click it, and then click Merge.

Note: The Revisions task pane opens to display all comments and changes made by reviewers.

If reviewers left comments in your presentation, you’ll see them under Slide Changes in the Revisions task pane.

To read the comments in detail, at the bottom of the PowerPoint window, on the status bar, click Comments.

1. The most important thing is to save a copy of your original presentation. What we’re going to do is to compare 2 versions of the same presentation and track the differences, so it’s vital that you have something to compare the altered document with.

2. Save a copy with another name in a shared location for your teammates to review. For example, you can use OneDrive.

3. Once you have received the reviewed files, you’ll need to merge and compare both versions. So open your original presentation and select the Review tab > Compare.

And, in the browser, select the reviewed version to merge.

4. Once both versions are merged, you can see the changes in the Review tab. If you click on Reviewing Pane a detailed menu of the changes will appear on the right side.

5. To see the changes suggested, you just need to click on the ticks. Once you have already decided what you’ll keep, you can use the Accept and Reject functions on the Review tab.

Step 1. Create a Copy of Your Presentation

First, you need to create a copy of your presentation by saving it on the cloud storage or external drives so that you can compare it later. You can then send or share the presentation with the person you want them to review your document. Once they have reviewed, you can download both the copy and reviewed the presentation.

Step 2. Open the PowerPoint Presentation

Now open the copy with PowerPoint and click on the “Review” > “Compare” button. Then a window pops up, and you can upload the reviewed document, and finally click the “Merge” button.

You can now track the changes in your presentation. On the right side, you will see the options of the review comments. To accept changes, navigate to the menu bar and click on the “Accept” button. You can also reject or delete comments on the slide. Click on “Delete” and choose either to delete comments on the slides or on all the presentations.
