You can combine individual pages as well as entire PDFs with one another using this built-in tool.

Combine One PDF File With Another PDF

If you want to merge two entire PDF files with one another, all you need to do is select the PDF that you want to add to the current PDF:

  1. Open the first PDF you want to combine with Preview.
  2. Click View and select Thumbnails to enable PDF thumbnails on the left.

Scanners typically import photos in .JPG format. If you’re just viewing them on your end, then it’s fine to have them all lying about as separate files. If you want to share them with someone else however, then placing them in a PDF is almost ideal.

In this example, you need to send a friend scanned copies of the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights.

First, head to the Applications folder and open the Preview app (or search for it with Spotlight). Preview will direct you to open the images you want, so browse to the folder where they are kept and select them. Use the Command key to select multiple images. When you’re done selecting images, click the “Open” button.

This shortcut takes multiple PDFs as its input, combines them, and then saves them. It will prompt you to name the new PDF, then ask where you want to save it.

This shortcut is dead easy to use. Anywhere you can select two or more PDFs, you can run it. In the Files app, for instance, just tap the Select button in the top right corner of the screen, then tap to select all the PDFs you want to merge. From there, follow along with the prompts to rename and save the newly merged PDF.

Tweak the shortcut to make it your own

If you’re happy with the newly created PDF keeping the name of one of the originals, only with a number added as a suffix, then you can cut out the Set Name step.

You can also have the resulting PDF auto-saved to the Shortcuts folder in your iCloud Drive, in which case you can switch off Ask Where to Save in the final step.
