How to Add Players

Steps Directions
1 Start the Game with another user
2 Receive your tent and NookPhone

1. Start the Game with Another User

Other users on your Nintendo Switch can join your island as a new villager, all they have to do is start up the game in their own user account.

Additional players will then answer Timmy and Tommy’s questions. These include the name , birthday , and appearance questions.

However, unlike the first player, additional players don’t need to answer the question, What would you bring to a deserted island?

Additional Players cannot make their own Island

A single Nintendo Switch is limited to one island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

So if a different user wants to have their own island, they’ll need a separate Nintendo Switch and a separate copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is required.

2. Receive a Tent and NookPhone on Arrival

Additional players will arrive on the island and receive a Tent and NookPhone. They can take a DIY Workshop with Tom Nook to start crafting items.

Keep in mind that additional players can’t progress most of the required story goals after completing the DIY Workshop.

Added players will have a sandbox game experience without set goals unlike the first or original user who’ll have to accomplish goals to gain progress with their island.

What to Watch Out for When Adding Players

The Flimsy Axe and Flimsy Shovel DIY Recipes Must Be Purchased

Although the first player receives DIY Recipes as part of the story, additional players must purchase the Recipes for themselves.

They’re available for sale in Resident Services or Nook’s Cranny, depending on if Nook’s Cranny has been built yet.

How to Delete Players

Press – on the Title Screen

Steps Directions
1 Press the – Button on the title screen
2 Follow dialogue to delete save data

1. Press the – Button

Press the – Button on the game’s title screen to access game settings.

You’ll be taken to a screen with Tom Nook, where you can change your settings in the game!

2. Follow Dialogue

Select Save data, then Delete resident registration. to remove the current user’s save data.

Once you erase or delete a player, you won’t be able to bring them back, so be sure to think twice before deleting a player!

The first player cannot be deleted

Keep in mind that the original player who came to the island acts as the Resident Representative for the island, so their save data cannot be erased from the Settings menu.

If you want to erase the save data for the first player, you’ll need to delete the save data of Animal Crossing: New Horizons as a whole , which will also delete all the other save data together with it.

Can 2 People Play On 1 Switch?

Play Locally with Party Play

With New Horizon’s new feature, players on the same island can now play together. You can play with up to 4 people on local multiplayer using Party Play!

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a great game to share with friends and family, but sometimes an in-person player will place a tent in an annoying spot and never play again. Getting rid of their tent or house involves deleting their Animal Crossing player data. Here’s how to do it.

The Problem and an Alternative Solution

Sometimes, other players on your Animal Crossing island place their tents in inconvenient locations. For example, maybe you’d like to landscape around your house, but another player’s home location is in the way.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

If the player plans to keep playing on your island, it is possible later in the game (once certain milestones are met) for the player with the badly placed house to pay a large sum of Bells to Resident Services to move their house to another location.

But if the player with the offending tent or house doesn’t plan to play the game again, then it’s best to consider removing their player data (which the game calls “deleting resident registration”). This will completely delete the player from Animal Crossing and remove their tent or house.

How to Remove a Residence From Animal Crossing by Deleting Player Data

Before doing any deleting, it’s always best to ask the other player if it is OK to remove their account. If they say “yes” or they have no plans to play the game again, then you’re set.

Launch Animal Crossing and start the game as the player you’d like to remove from the game. Make sure you pick the correct account, or you could accidentally delete the wrong player by mistake.

When you get to the title screen, press the “-” (minus) button on the left Joy-Con to go to the Settings menu.

There, you will see Tom Nook and he will give you a warning about changing advanced settings and saying that children should get help from a parent. When Nook asks you what settings you would like to change, select the “Save Data Settings” option.

At the next menu choice, select “Delete Resident Registration.”

Tom Nook will warn you that all memories of this player and their property will be removed from the game. That includes their home, money, miles, and all island residents will forget that the player ever existed.

If you’re OK with the risks, Nook will confirm that you want to proceed. Select “Delete Resident Registration” a second time.

Now, you can press the physical Home button on the right Joy-Con, select the Animal Crossing icon, switch players back to your main account, and the offending tent or house should be gone from the game.

Looking to remove a villager from your Happy Home Paradise island? Here’s one method that can help

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

If you want to know how to remove a villager in Happy Home Paradise, we’re here to help. With different villagers appearing at random on the beach outside the main office building, you might sometimes have to move in with a villager you’re not a big fan of, or maybe you’re just not really loving their sense of style or personal theme. If so, there is a little technique that, for all intents and purposes, removes a villager from your map on the Happy Home Paradise island. So, if you’re to replace one of your fuzzy faces residing in a vacation home on your map, read on below for what steps you need to take to remove a villager in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise DLC.

How to remove a villager in Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise

In order to start the process of removing a villager from your Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise island, you’re going to need to move someone new in. Once you’ve popped to the main office on the island and told Lottie you want to get to work, head out to the beach and find a new villager you want to move in. If none of the villagers and their themes take your fancy and you have some Amiibo cards handy, you can always invite villagers of your choosing using the Amiibo scanner on Lottie’s front desk.

When you select a new villager, you’ll begin the process of having a meeting and hearing about the vision they have for their home. Once you’re asked to choose a location to move in the new resident, be sure to select the plot of land that’s home to the villager you want to replace. After you’ve put together their dream holiday spot, you’ll notice the next time you go the map that your new villager’s face has replaced the previous tenant.

While this doesn’t technically permanently remove the villager, it does remove their face from the map. Since all of the villagers and homes you design are added to your portfolio, a shot of the previous villager and their vacation residence can still be seen on the display list of the location spot underneath the new home you’ve designed. You can also still visit the villager you’ve replaced in that spot and relocate them elsewhere, which is handy if you’ve moved a villager into the same spot by mistake.

How to Kick Out Resident in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

We all have that one friend, relative, coworker, neighbor, that just can’t seem to take a hint. Animal Crossing has taken this real-life struggle and developed it into the gameplay and in this game guide we will lay out your options on how to deal with them.

Players will find that different kinds of characters will inhabit their island. These residents will help you build a unique community on your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Unfortunately, you may feel like one resident has overstayed their welcome and would like to kick them out. Fortunately, we have everything you need to know to kick out a resident covered for you.

Our Step By Step Solution

The characters that can take up residency on your island are all usually lovable individuals. However, as with life, sometimes you can get annoyed by someone and would rather them not be where you live. Players in the latest entry in the fan-favorite Nintendo franchise can kick out a resident in two ways.

One method consists of Animal Crossing: New Horizons players going to Isabelle and let her know that you would like to kick a resident out by making a complaint against the particular character each day. This consistent stream of complaints will cause the character you would like to leave to ask you if they should go, which you can then tell them to leave your island.

A more direct way is to go up to the resident you would like to kick out and hit them with your net. Once you have angered them enough, they will come to speak with you. Ignore them until they eventually come to you and tell you that they are thinking about leaving, which will then allow you to ask them to go and leave your island.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

Image: Nintendo via Polygon

Animal Crossing is an idealized form of life, with zero-interest mortgages and money that grows on trees, where I have a core group of thoughtful friends and can become a master craftsman in furniture building just because someone left a note in a bottle on the beach. Also, in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can poop. So satisfying!

Pooping has a benefit in the new Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch. It drains your fruit buff almost instantly, which is important. If you eat some fruit, you’ll get a buff that makes your villager extra strong — and if you whack a boulder with your shovel while all buffed up, you can shatter that rock, depriving yourself of valuable resources like iron nuggets.

So how do you poop in Animal Crossing: New Horizons? Sit on a toilet, of course.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

Image: Nintendo via Polygon

It doesn’t even need to be your toilet (which, honestly though, that’s questionable bathroom etiquette). You can take care of your business on the commode of another villager. Just sit, let that fruit fiber work its gastrointestinal magic and your villager will announce, “And that takes care of that!” You don’t even need to remove any clothing, so your waste disposal process is discrete and speedy. Hell, you don’t even need any TP . but it’s probably a good reminder to wash your hands in real life.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch. It’s a much-needed escape from everything and arrived just in time.

Nintendo Switch Lite

Nintendo Switch consoles are currently sold out at most retailers, but you can still pick up the handheld-only Switch Lite, which is perfect for portable Animal Crossing.

Here’s how to join the Paradise Planning committee and design dream vacation homes.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ 2.0 update is now live, and alongside the free patch, Nintendo has released a paid DLC expansion for the game called Happy Home Paradise. Much like the Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer spinoff game for the Nintendo 3DS, this expansion is all about designing dream vacation homes and other facilities for various characters. Here’s a rundown on the DLC’s price and how to access it.

How to download Happy Home Paradise

The Happy Home Paradise DLC is not included in New Horizons’ free 2.0 update; you’ll need to download it separately from the Nintendo eShop. You can purchase the expansion outright from the New Horizons product page for $25. Note that you need to have the base Animal Crossing: New Horizons game in order to purchase the Happy Home Paradise DLC.

If you have a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack plan , you also have the option to download the Happy Home Paradise DLC for free. However, you’ll lose access to the DLC if your subscription lapses. An individual Expansion Pack membership costs $50 per year, while an annual family plan membership, which covers up to eight accounts across multiple systems, costs $80. In addition to Happy Home Paradise, the Expansion Pack plan gives subscribers access to a library of classic Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games.

How to access Happy Home Paradise content

After you’ve downloaded an installed the Happy Home Paradise DLC, you’ll receive a call from Tom Nook upon booting up New Horizons. Nook will then introduce you to Lottie, the leader of the Paradise Planning committee who you’ll be working for as part of the DLC.

To work for Lottie and access the expansion, you’ll need to speak to Orville in the airport and select I want to go to work from his list of options. From there, you’ll take a short plane ride to the Paradise Planning headquarters, where you’ll be able to take on jobs designing dream vacation homes for various clients. Each time you turn the game on, you’ll need to first speak to Orville and select this option to access Happy Home Paradise.

After successfully completing a job, you’ll earn Poki, a new type of currency exclusive to Happy Home Paradise. With Poki, you can purchase new furniture and other items and bring them back to your island.

New Horizons’ free 2.0 introduced a wealth of new content to the game as well, including Brewster’s cafe , gyroids , cooking and more. A new series of Animal Crossing Amiibo cards have also gone on sale at retailers.

Like the sandbox world of “Minecraft,” Nintendo’s “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” is another game to flaunt your carefully crafted creation with friends.

Bringing friends to your island lets you meet new villagers, cultivate hybrid flowers, and learn unique crafting recipes. And of course, you can share beautiful island experiences — perfect for social distancing.

To get started adding and playing with friends on “Animal Crossing,” you both need a Nintendo Online subscription and an internet connection. You can then invite friends to your island from your Nintendo Switch Friend List, or you can bring over guests by sending one-time invites in the form of unique “Dodo Codes” generated by the game.

How to add friends in ‘Animal Crossing’ through a Switch code

Add someone to your Switch Friend List

You can bypass this step and use a one-time Dodo code invite instead (see below). However, adding users to the Friend List on your Switch can be handy for knowing when your friends are actively playing “Animal Crossing,” thus available for co-op play. It’ll also let you connect to them more easily in the future.

1. Each Nintendo Switch user has a unique “Friend Code,” a 12-digit number preceded by the letters “SW.” The code can be found on the “Profile” section of your account.

2. Select the “Friend List” category within your account page, and tap “Add Friend,” then “Search with Friend Code.”

3. After you’ve entered their code and found the other “Animal Crossing” player you want to invite to your island, shoot them a friend request, and upon their approval, they’ll be added to your Friend List.

How to open your island to online visitors

Next, you have to make your island available for online play by “opening the gate” at the airport. Head there and speak to the receptionist, Orville.

1. Tell Orville “I want visitors” when he asks how he can assist you.

2. Select the “Via Online play” option when Orville asks how you want to invite someone to your island. Make sure you have an internet connection at this stage.

3. When asked who to invite, select the “All my friends” option.

From there, your gate will physically open, signifying that your island is ready for visitors.

Although anyone on your Friend List can hop over as long as the gate remains open, your gameplay will remain the same.

How to add a ‘Best Friend’ after hosting an island visitor

Upon having your first conversation with Orville about inviting guests, he’ll mention and install the Best Friends List app onto your Nook Phone.

After a visitor has been to your island, you each have the option to request one another as a Best Friend. If accepted, you’ll be added to each others’ Best Friends List, and be given new privileges when visiting, like use of a shovel.

That means you might have to be careful who you add as a Best Friend. If a visitor is coveting your Blue Roses on the first trip, they’ll have the privilege of digging them up on a future visit to your island as a Best Friend.

How to invite a friend to your ‘Animal Crossing’ island using a Dodo Code

1. To use a Dodo Code, initiate the same conversation with Orville at the airport, telling him “I want visitors.”

2. Select the “Invite via Dodo Code” when asked who you want to invite.

3. You can elect to invite just friends from your Switch Friend List, or anyone with the “The more the merrier!” option.

4. Orville will give you a five-character Dodo Code. This is the code you give anyone who you want to visit your island.

If you don’t want people to use the code anymore, just tell Orville to shut the gates. That’ll make the code expire.

Apr. 16 2020, Updated 11:35 a.m. ET

The newest installment of Nintendo’s beloved social simulation franchise is finally here! Animal Crossing: New Horizons might be the most anticipated Animal Crossing game ever, and not just because it’s finally available during a time when a lot of people are unexpectedly cooped up at home for a while.

As you start your Animal Crossing: New Horizons journey, there are a lot of decisions you have to make right at the start — what’s your name going to be? What should you name your island? Where should you put your tent? No pressure or anything, but these early game decisions can and will affect you for the rest of your time with the game. So what if you’ve already messed up? You’re gonna have to reset. And it’s not gonna be pretty. Here’s how to reset Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How to reset your island in ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’:

First of all, you should know that the game really, really does not want you to reset your island. If this is your first Animal Crossing game, you’re probably starting to realize that it’s quite different from other social and farming sims you’ve played in the past. For one, the game takes place in real time. If one of the islanders tells you something is happening in an hour (for example), it’s happening in a literal, real-life hour.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

You’re not really meant to power through an Animal Crossing game. Have you noticed that you destroy grass and fall over when you try to run around, but everything is hunky-dory when you walk? Yep. That’s because the game is designed for the long haul, not the player who wants to just “get through” the game.

And so, when it comes to resetting your island for whatever reason, well, the game doesn’t really like it. It’ll let you do it, but you have to jump through some hoops first. There’s no way to delete your save file within the game, but you can choose from two other reset options. First, you can restart your character. In order to do this, hit the Minus button. Save, and then go to the Main Menu. Once there, hit the Minus button again, navigate to Save Data and select “Delete Resident Registration.”

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

This will remove your character completely, including all of their items, bells, miles, and any interactions you’ve made with other islanders. But there’s a big catch to this reset option: If you’re the player who founded the island, you cannot delete your character. That’s where option No. 2 comes in.

Your second option is to completely restart your island and game. In order to do this, go to your Switch’s main menu, navigate to the System Settings tab, then to Data Management. Go to Delete Save Data (it’s at the very bottom of the menu), and select Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Be warned: This is truly the nuclear option. It will completely delete all of your game data. It will allow you to start an entirely new game with a new island, though.

Animal Crossing games aren’t for everyone, but for the people who love collecting fruit, walking around, fishing, catching bugs, and interacting with other islanders (especially if you’re social distancing in real life right now), it’s pretty much perfect. Happy playing!

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

If you’re like me, you’re probably spending wayyyy too much time in Animal Crossing. But honestly, is there really such a thing?

Aside from protecting us from the apocalyptic hell of the real world, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is also chock full of thoughtful, little details that you notice the more you play. So we gathered some of our absolute favorite observations of the adorable stuff that make the world and the villagers who populate it feel so alive.

Of course, you can’t really “spoil” Animal Crossing per se. But some people might want to find all this magic themselves on their own time.

1. You can has pet turtles 🙂

Not only can you catch a snapping turtle (if you’re lucky), but you can actually KEEP THEM AS PETS!! Well, OK, only kinda. I’m not sure the turtles know or even like being viewed as your “pet.” But if you display them in your house or around your village, they just stand there with no water tank, hanging out, being cutie little lugs.

Hot tip: Press A near your snapping turtle to get some, uh, love I guess!

One Redditor even claims that their villager was reading to one said pet turtle, though it might just look that way in the shot.

Just don’t think too long about the philosophical and ethical conundrum that comes with keeping animals as pets when your island is populated by sentient human-animals.

2. Villagers will rock the fuck out with you

You might’ve noticed that your villagers sing every now and again. But their musical talents are far more wide-sweeping.

If you give them the right setup, they’ll take to the mic and put on a full-on concert for you. Yas, thank you, Audie! Keep the spirit of the music concert scene alive during lockdown!

Perhaps best of all, though, if you choose to join their singalongs by playing an instrument nearby, your villagers will actively move closer for moral support and to get syncopated with the beat you’re laying down.

That’s not all, either. A specific villager named Beau can be caught yodeling in her house. Another was found to stop midway through singing and seemingly. checking her phone for the lyrics she forgot?

3. They take selfies too! (And feel bad about it, just like you!)

Generally speaking, we highly recommend you take the time to observe your villagers’ habits, since they all have their own adorably unique qualities and activities. That’s how you’ll catch golden moments like this, when Raymond snapped a selfie of himself before wincing at the result.

We feel you, Raymond! But post it! Feel cute, maybe delete later!

They’ll also snap pics of things they like, which makes us wonder if there’s an Animal Crossing version of Instagram.

4. Isabelle also does all sorts of cute things

Sadly, Tom Nook seems to keep Isabelle trapped in a never-ending 24-hour workday. Unionize Isabelle — you deserve basic human rights.

But in the meantime, everyone’s favorite assistant can often be seen toiling away the hours of her endless shift in the most adorable ways. She’ll exercise in the afternoon, chug coffee at night, sniff the flowers on her desk, accidentally fall asleep in the chair directly across from her boss.

Perhaps cutest of all, though: She looks out the window to catch meteor showers whenever one is happening on your island. Urgh. She’s perfect. Never change, Isabelle. (But do look into unionizing, please, this is not OK.)

5. Villagers who moved out can show up on your friends’ islands

This one boggled our minds, though it’s actually not new to New Horizons and also happened in previous Animal Crossing games as well.

Sometimes if your villager moves out from your island, they don’t just disappear into the Animal Crossing ether. They can actually wind up on your friends’ islands, and will give your island a shoutout when explaining where they moved from!

And if you go visit them in their new place on your friend’s island, they’ll also remember you! Because no matter how long it’s been, your Animal Crossing villagers do not forget you 😭

6. Kimonos alter when you go into work-mode

There are a bunch of little cute details to discover about your furniture and clothing (like how fans blow wind through your plants and clothes). But our favorite by far is this added feature that stays true to how real-life kimonos work.

6. Those villager-shaped silhouettes in the museum have a purpose

Maybe like me when you first ran around exploring every corner of the gorgeous museum, you paused over one suspiciously ominous section. In the fossil ward, there’s a space for silhouettes of every different villager in the whole game. My first thought was, wait are we supposed to. taxidermy our villagers to complete Blathers’ sick psychopathic museum of horrors?!

Turns out, that is not the case.

Those silhouettes are actually showing how each villagers’ species’ has evolved from a particular prehistoric ancestor. When you complete that dinosaur display, you can actually catch that villager in the designated silhouette and unlock special dialogue to hear how they feel about it. Probably a little creeped out.

Also, try standing on the dots around your museum. They each have fun little unique soundscapes and widen the camera to let you soak in all your glorious donations.

7. So much drama to be found in villager interactions

Again, we can’t recommend observing your villagers enough. This is especially true whenever they interact with one another.

Fans have caught their villagers doing all sorts of things, like kissing.

They give each other lessons on how to be, like, super cool.

And even piss each other off and fight!

If you check in after they’ve had a fight with upset expressions on their face, you’ll even get to hear the hot gossip about what went down. This player now has to deal with a fat shamer on her island.

8. There’s rainbows :’)

Remember rainbows? Well we can through Animal Crossing.

9. You can drop wasp nests on your villagers 😈 But it won’t save you

We’ve covered a lot of cute villager behavior. But let’s be honest, some of our Animal Crossing villagers literally deserve to die (or just move the fuck out already, please Hamphrey take the HINT.) In those instances, when the perfect conditions arise, you can actually drop a fat ol’ wasp nest on their head.

Home » Guides » Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Get the Workbench

After a couple of teases and delays, it’s finally time. Animal Crossing New Horizons is finally out on the Nintendo Switch, which means that players can now get started with their new life on a deserted island with Tom Nook. Here’s how to get the workbench in Animal Crossing New Horizons.

Getting the Workbench in Animal Crossing New Horizons

The workbench is an essential tool in Animal Crossing New Horizons, as you’ll need it for crafting tools to help you make the most efficient use of your time on the island. Thankfully, it won’t be too long before you can get your hands on it.

All you have to do is play through the game and get past the intro, and on your first official day on the island, head over to Tom Nook’s Resident Services tent in the middle of the island. Once inside, talk to Tom himself and he’ll get you started with DIY recipes and teach you how to use the workbench.

Inside the Resident Services tent, simply interact with the workbench directly behind Tom Nook by pressing the A button. You’ll then open up a crafting menu where you can see all the DIY Recipes you’ve unlocked. If you have enough materials for once of these Recipes, simply select it, then press the A button to start crafting.

And that’s basically it. Once you make your selection, your character will craft the item, and it’ll be placed in your inventory. You can come back here anytime to continue crafting new tools and items.

Eventually, you’ll be able to get DIY Recipes for your own workbenches via villagers or washed up bottled messages. We’ve listed them below:

  • 5 Wood
  • 5 Hardwood
  • 5 Softwood
  • 3 Iron Nugget
  • 1 Mini DIY Workbench

Some Animal Crossing New Horizons fans are asking what will happen if they time travel backwards.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is meant to be played on a daily basis in real-time, but a lot of us have other things to do and play meaning the commitment is difficult to abide by. This results in players time-travelling (or cheating if you’re extra sensitive) forwards without really thinking about what will happen if they time travel backwards.

There have been multiple reasons given for why you shouldn’t time travel in Animal Crossing New Horizons from not being able to fast forward to holiday events such as next month’s Easter and Earth Day celebrations, as well as because it can ruin your island and relationships if you fast forward too far into the future.

However, if you’ve committed the deed and are now wondering what will happen if you dare time travel backwards, below you’ll discover the answer. And it’s not at all scary.

How to time travel in Animal Crossing New Horizons

You time travel in Animal Crossing New Horizons by closing the software and proceeding to the Nintendo Switch’s System Settings.

Once you’re in the Settings, scroll down to System and advance to Date and Time.

If you want to time travel into the future, all you need to do is change the date and time to a specific month, year, and/or time before reality.

Meanwhile, if you want to time travel into the past, you just do the exact same but prior to reality’s current date and time.

What happens if you time travel backwards in Animal Crossing New Horizons?

Nothing too bad happens if you time travel backwards in Animal Crossing New Horizons.

For those in fear of time travelling backwards due to worries that the progress made will all be lost, you needn’t be concerned as Animal Crossing New Horizons isn’t that cruel.

Travelling back into the past will not result in you losing buildings, villagers, or DIY recipes you’ve earned by transporting to the future on several occasions.

Having time travelled into the future and past on a couple of occasions to see what would happen, the most problems we had was just weeds.

There are reportedly greater issues if you time travel well into the future i.e. years, so we wouldn’t recommend doing that. But, if you time travelled a couple of days or weeks into the future and now want to time travel back to reality, there’s nothing for you to fear.

In fact, time travelling backwards can be helpful as there are certain bugs and fish that can only be caught at certain times and you may be busy during these periods. So, although some consider it cheating, time travelling forwards and backwards can help you work around your real-life commitments and schedule.

Where to get the wetsuit, how to get in the water, tips on how to swim faster, and how to dive for sea creatures in New Horizons.

By Lonnie Rad on November 4, 2021 at 12:09PM PDT

The feature wasn’t in the game at launch, but you can now swim and dive in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It isn’t that hard to do if you can follow a few simple steps. Here, we’ll walk you through where to get a wetsuit, how to swim and dive into the ocean, tips on swimming faster, and what to do with sea creatures. You’ll be a freestyle expert in no time.

How To Get A Wetsuit For Swimming

  • Requires: 3,000 bells

If you want to swim in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the first thing you need to do is buy a wetsuit. To buy a wetsuit, head over to Nook’s Cranny. The wetsuit will be available to purchase in the cabinet where you usually buy tools, seeds, and wallpaper/flooring.

The wetsuit costs 3,000 bells. You can also purchase a wetsuit from your Nook Stop terminal for 3,000 bells. They come in new designs daily, so you can keep checking back if you don’t like what you end up with. Your Nook Stop also offers a Nook Inc. wetsuit for 800 miles.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons” Purchasing a wetsuit from Nook’s Cranny.

To equip the wetsuit, just select it in your inventory, press A, and select “Wear.” The wetsuit will be equipped directly over your clothes, so you don’t need to manually remove shirts or bottoms in order to wear it. Your shoes and any socks or tights may still be equipped though–you can still swim with them on, but if you want to take them off or swap them for something more beach-appropriate, you’ll have to do that manually.

Once your wetsuit is on, you’re ready to start swimming!

How To Swim

  • Requires: Wetsuit

Once you purchase a wetsuit, Timmy and Tommy will give you a quick how-to on swimming, but if you skipped it on accident or don’t remember, we’ve run through the basics below.

How To Get In The Water

To swim, you need to head to one of your ocean’s beaches and get in the water first. There are two primary ways you can enter the ocean: wading in from the sandy beach, or diving in from either your beach rocks, that narrow strip of land that juts into the ocean, or your pier.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons” The first day of the summer update, and it’s raining on my island.

Either way, you’ll have to run up against the water and press A to enter the water. (You must have all tools unequipped.)

Swimming Controls

To keep swimming, press A. Each time you press A, you’ll do a stroke, but if you just hold A down, you’ll keep paddling. You can use the left stick to move around. If you don’t press anything, your character will just tread water. While treading, you can still use the analog stick to paddle lightly around, but you will move very slowly. Your character will never get tired of treading water, so don’t worry about floating around if you get tired of pressing A.

To swim fast, just keep tapping A while moving around in the water.

To exit the water, you have to swim back to a sandy beach. Just swim right up to the beach until your character reaches land and can walk out of the water.

How To Dive

  • Requires: Wetsuit

There’s no point in swimming in Animal Crossing: New Horizons if you don’t know how to dive.

To dive, just press Y while you’re in the water. Your character will dive under the waves, and from there, you can just use the usual swimming controls to move around–A to swim, joystick to move around. If you want to come back up to the surface, just hit Y again, but don’t worry–your character won’t run out of oxygen and will just come up for air when they need it, so you don’t have to time your dives.

How To Catch Sea Creatures

  • Requires: Wetsuit

The new swimming and diving features are all about exploring the ocean around your island, which means there are new sea creatures to catch and rare treasure to find. All you need for this is your wetsuit–no net or any other tools required!

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons” A column of bubbles in the water signals a potential discovery.

When you’re swimming around, you might notice columns of bubbles floating up from beneath the waves. If you swim directly over the bubbles and press Y, your character will dive under and, if you positioned yourself right, come back up with a sea creature, like a sea star or a sea anemone. You can also find new types of vegetation, like seaweed.

Another way to catch sea creatures is to dive underwater and look for little shadows. When you dive, the camera will tilt and give you a better view of what’s below you. Those bubble columns and shadows line up, so an easier way to find creatures is to dive under and swim towards the shadows. Your character will automatically collect whatever’s down there once you reach the shadow.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons” Diving under reveals a shadow, which makes it easier to locate and collect sea creatures.

In addition to the new sea creatures you can gather up for your Critterpedia and the museum, you will also find scallops and pearls. You can use pearls to craft certain DIY recipes, including the new mermaid-themed set. Scallops can be traded in to Pascal, a red otter who you will run into on one of your swims, for DIY recipes.

What To Do With New Sea Creatures

If you check your Critterpedia, you’ll find there’s a brand new tab for “sea creatures.” Anything you find on one of your underwater excursions will end up in this section, even if–as Blathers later explains–it isn’t exactly a “creature.” Seaweed, sea grapes, and other ocean plant life will get categorized here too. Check out our full list of all 40 sea creatures added in the new summer update.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons” The new sea creatures tab in your Critterpedia. We’re still filling ours out!

Not only does the new swimming update mean new wildlife to log in your Critterpedia, but new things to donate to your museum as well. Blathers will gladly take any new sea creature or vegetation you find while diving as a donation to the museum.

You can also, as with any other wildlife find, place it as decoration. While most of what we’ve found so far will appear in a standard display tank, a few items like the seaweed have a unique placement style that you can use to decorate your island, so don’t forget to experiment!

    Prerequisites
Uninstall hbg shop if you are using it, Tinfoil without hbg shop is fine. It can interfere with controls in EdiZon and may cause other issues. I recommend creating save backups with JKSV, currently the only known working save backup system for Animal Crossing right now.

    Required installs

    1. Install JKSV for creating save backups: https://github.com/J-D-K/JKSV/releases
    2. Install EdiZon: https://github.com/WerWolv/EdiZon/releases/
    3. Install nxovllader: https://github.com/WerWolv/nx-ovlloader/releases
    4. Install Tesla menu: https://github.com/WerWolv/Tesla-Menu/releases/
    5. Install the EdiZon Overlay: http://werwolv.net/downloads/EdiZonOverlay.zip

    Settings
    Go to atmosphere > config_templates > system_settings.ini and change dmnt_cheats_enabled_by_default = u8!0x1 to dmnt_cheats_enabled_by_default = u8!0x0

Optional for changing overlay controls: Create a file called config.ini in the /config/tesla folder. Then paste the following text in there replacing with your desired button combination, for example L + DDOWN + RS In this case, pressing L, D-Pad Down and the right stick will open the Tesla menu. Possible key names are: A, B, X, Y, DLEFT, DRIGHT, DUP, DDOWN, LS, RS, MINUS, PLUS, SL, SR, L, R, ZL, ZR Separate different keys that should be help simultaneously with a plus ( + ) sign.

    Add cheats

    1. Extract the .rar and drag it into the atmosphere/contents folder.
    2. Open folder and edit the text file to include cheats you want to use (or do so before dragging it.)
    3. Make sure your build ID matches up to your current version by checking the text file name.

Reboot into payload after changing settings and installing homebrew software. Don’t forget to back up your file on JKSV in device saves before cheating for the first time! Also, try not to use too many cheats, it can cause crashing and other issues.

    Toggle and see cheats in-game
Hold L (bumper/trigger area), down on D-pad and click in your right joystick to see the overlay (default controls.)

Home » Guides » Animal Crossing: Why Blathers Isn’t Talking About Brewster in New Horizons 2.0 Update

So you’ve downloaded Animal Crossing New Horizons‘ 2.0 update and you’re ready to check out the cooking, farming, stretching, and visit mysterious islands with Kapp’n. Sure, while the idea of Harv’s island teeming with shops may have you hyped, there’s likely one thing you’re struggling to get to unlock. Blathers isn’t talking about Brewster in Animal Crossing New Horizons, preventing you from unlocking The Roost — the museum cafe where you can sit back and have a cup of coffee with friends and other islanders. Fortunately, there’s a quick and easy solution to this.

How to Fix Blathers Not Talking About Brewster

The reason Blathers isn’t talking about Brewster is because you haven’t got one of each exhibit type in the museum. That means you need at least one of the following donated:

    • Bug
    • Fish
    • Fossil
    • Art
    • Sea Creature

If you haven’t got at least one of each of these donated to the museum, Blathers won’t talk about Brewster, preventing you from being able to open The Roost altogether.

If you haven’t played New Horizons in a while, it’s probably the Sea Creature you’re missing. This requires you to get a wetsuit and then dive underwater.

Alternatively, it could be that you’re missing some artwork. For this, you’ll need to visit Redd, either via Harv’s island if you’ve set his shop up (which will take a bit longer), or by unlocking his visiting ship to your main island.

Once you’ve got one of every exhibit, hand it over to Blathers. You’ll now need to wait until the next day before Blathers will begin talking about Brewster.

You’ll know you’re able to strike up that conversation when Blathers has a speech bubble with ‘…’ above his head.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

At that point, you can follow our handy guide on how to unlock Brewster and The Roost.

That’s everything you need to know to explain why Blathers isn’t talking about Brewster in Animal Crossing New Horizons. For more on the game, check out our wiki, or see more of our coverage on the game below.

Well, internet. I am never right, so let me savour this.

Back in the annals of the other day, I wrote a piece in response to PewDiePie’s promise to delete his channel . In case you missed the news, he promised to delete his channel if it reached 50 million subscribers. The announcement brought him widespread media coverage, both positive and negative, and did a lot to boost his profile and that of the YouTubers currently embattled by the service’s poor relations with them.

At the time, I said that it was nothing but a marketing strategy perpetuated by a guy that too many think is just a babbling simpleton. With a simple statement of intent, PewDiePie did a lot to raise awareness for struggling YouTubers and, even if he denies it, his own profile.

I was right: Felix Kjellberg is not deleting his channel, rather his second channel that many (including myself) thought would be his go-to if he followed through on his promise.

“You know when you make a joke, and it just blows up way bigger than you ever imagined? That was it, that was the joke.”

“I wanted to get to fifty million subscribers so I used the pretext of deleting my channel to get there while also raising a couple of issues.”

Fans may be relieved, but it’s pretty callous of Kjellberg to play around with them like that. Whether he knows it or not, his channel is a big part of a lot of people’s lives, so any marketing tactic designed to manipulate them and his “haters” is going to cause some problems.

PewDiePie is still comfortably the most popular YouTuber on the platform and this “boost” does no harm in making him reach a wider audience. It’s probably unethical and definitely a bit of a dick move, but it proves without doubt that he didn’t reach the summit of YouTube thanks to nothing more than loud noises and jump cuts.

Features a gorgeous aesthetic but weak card-based RPG gameplay.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

The influx of roguelike RPGs within the indie games space has exploded over the last decade. Often, an eye-catching art style being the quickest way to distance a game from the competition. Deep Sky Derelicts has this in spades, but does it have the gameplay to back up its gorgeous aesthetic?

Developed by Snowhound Games, Deep Sky Derelicts: Definitive Edition brings the PC version’s tactical card-based gameplay to consoles. The player is tasked with locating a mysterious mothership vessel that will take them on an exploration through the dangerous reaches of the galaxy. In their hunt for the mothership, the player will explore other nearby derelict vessels for data that will lead them closer to their goal.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

Derelicts are home to missions, loot, and, of course, all manner of hostile bandits and alien species. The player’s time is split between a hub world and exploring derelicts or dungeons, leveling up and acquiring new mercenaries along the way.

While Deep Sky Derelicts may share similarities in its gameplay structure to other RPGs, it crafts its own identity with its unique presentation. The game’s gorgeous graphic novel aesthetic captures its gritty sci-fi atmosphere with highly detailed environments and character models. Every enemy is memorable, running the complete sci-fi pantheon from grotesque parasitic aliens to decrepit zombie-esque bandits. So as gratifying as its art style is, it’s a shame that the gameplay itself gets in the way of enjoying that.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

The opening hours of the game are an exercise in patience. There’s very little hand-holding, as the player is instructed to form a three-person squad of mercenaries right out of the gate. For those who aren’t self-starters, or prefer their RPG experiences streamlined, this will not be for you.

Pouring over tombs of stats and class types is the only way to understand how potential mercenary classes operate, and even then you won’t really know until your first taste of combat. It is an uncomfortable predicament, being asked to make decisions before having a chance to understand how the game’s mechanics work. Though once the player makes it through this momentary hesitation, they will learn that no decision in Deep Sky Derelicts is final.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

There is an abundance of customization options for tweaking the player’s mercenaries, all accessible through the vessel Perecido. The Perecido acts as a hub world, offering standard RPG amenities such as healing, an equipment shop, ability upgrades, as well as providing somewhere to take on new contracts. It’s essential to frequently return to the Perecido to not only recharge energy, but also to ensure that your squad’s gear is in tip-top shape. Tweaking your squad’s abilities, equipment, and hiring new mercs is vital to surviving more than a few squares on a derelict. As the player will quickly learn, death comes quickly for the ill-prepared.

The cost of these various upkeeps does not come cheap. Taking on contracts is imperative to keeping your squad flush with cash, as well as to provide XP bonuses used to boost merc abilities.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

These abilities are put to the test upon docking at a derelict. The player will traverse a grid-based map covered by a fog of war. Each movement drains the player’s upgradable energy meter, which is vital for keeping their mercenaries alive. Before moving, the player has the option of “scanning” their surroundings. While scans consume additional energy, they can reveal enemies and item locations, removing the likelihood of any nasty surprises.

While the layout changes with each derelict visited, their contents remain relatively the same. Enemies patrol the derelict, with loot caches and discoverable missions scattered throughout. I couldn’t help but fall into a formulaic rhythm of scanning my surroundings and making a beeline for loot indicators. The only thing that breaks up the eventual monotony that sets in are discoverable, derelict-specific missions.

How to remove an inactive player residence in “animal crossing new horizons”

While the main objective is recovering a derelict’s data cache, there are also unique discoverable missions. These can be simple fetch quests, or more memorable ones such as a robot trying to decide if it is human or a robot. These missions are a highlight, as they interweave dark humor with a traditional sci-fi narrative, so it’s a shame that they’re outnumbered by fetch quests.

Mission will often conclude with the player engaging in a challenging bout of combat. Combat differs from other dungeon crawlers as the player utilizes offensive and defense cards to resolve the battle. Abilities ranging from attack to buffs and debuffs are tied to the merc’s equipment, adding an emphasis on keeping their deck well-maintained.

The early hours of combat were mostly trial and error, given the dense, stat-heavy nature of cards. Deciding when to play specific offensive or defensive cards naturally plays a large part in how combat unfolds. Combat mostly provided challenges that were in line with my squad’s current level, though occasionally fights far exceeded the recommended level. The biggest issue its card combat faces is the inherent randomness of card draws. Even the most ironclad strategies could fail due to not having the right card, making already challenging gameplay turn infuriating.

The randomized nature of combat and some punishingly uneven fights results in combat never feeling as satisfying as it should. My sigh of relief at barely surviving an encounter was short-lived as the reward for surviving was often a slight stat bump or junk loot. The climax of these challenging fights or unique story missions was often met with a shrug, as I prepared to set off to another derelict to do it all over again.

Deep Sky Derelicts is an amalgamation of standard RPG ideas and a gorgeous visual aesthetic but lacks the satisfying combat that would fuel its longevity. If you’re a die-hard RPG stat cruncher, then you will likely get more mileage out of the Definitive Edition’s base and DLC content packs. But for those after a more rewarding experience, look elsewhere amongst the stars.

A copy of Deep Sky Derelicts: Definitive Edition was provided by PR for the purposes of this review.
