Gmail’s conversation view was groundbreaking when it appeared 15 years ago, but it always shows new messages on the bottom of the thread instead of the top. That’s annoying to some long-time email users. Here’s how to change that.

There’s No Easy Option to Change This

Unfortunately, Gmail itself provides no easy one-click option that will put all new messages on the top of a conversation thread. Microsoft Outlook and Apple Mail both show new messages at the top of a conversation thread by default, but they offer an option to put those messages at the bottom. We wish Gmail would do the same.

But, although Gmail doesn’t make it as easy as we’d like, there are still ways to see new emails on top in Gmail.

Option One: Turn off Conversation View

If you’re not that into using the conversation view, the simplest solution is to turn it off. If you do this, then each email appears individually rather than together in a conversation thread. This is the only built-in option for seeing new mail at the top of your inbox.

To disable conversation view in Gmail, click the cog in the top right on the Gmail website and then click “Settings.”

On the General tab that opens, scroll down to the Conversation View option and then select “Conversation View Off.”

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and then click “Save Changes.”

If you’re comfortable with the result, then your problem is solved. But, if you don’t like seeing every new email as its own message, there are other things you can try.

Option Two: Use a Browser Extension

If you don’t want to turn off conversation view, you can install a browser extension that will modify the appearance of Gmail in your browser, showing new emails at the top. Many people recommend Gmail Reverse Conversation, which is available for both Chrome and Firefox.

We like this extension because it works, but also because it has a publicly readable repository on Github where you can examine the source code of the browser extension. Before you install it, threaded messages will display the newest message at the bottom as standard.

After you’ve installed the extension, the newest message appears at the top. As a bonus, the Reply and Forward options are also now at the top.

However, this will only work in web browsers where you’ve installed the extension. It won’t apply to the Gmail mobile app.

This extension works by modifying Gmail’s cascading style sheets (CSS) code. If you’re the kind of person who prefers to edit their own CSS where possible, you can use the CSS that the Gmail Reverse Conversation extension uses. That can be found in their GitHub repo. You can use this CSS because the developer in question, “Tomasz,” has kindly licensed his extension using an MIT license that allows people to use its components for free.

Option Three: Use a Desktop Client like Outlook or Apple Mail

If you want conversation view on and you can’t install an extension or edit the CSS, your final option is to stop using the Gmail interface and start using a different mail client instead. Both Outlook and Apple Mail will show conversation views with the newest at the top, so if you access your Gmail through one of these clients, you can get that elusive functionality.

We’ve shown you how to access a Gmail account through both Microsoft Outlook, and Apple Mail before, so follow those instructions to set yourself up. In Outlook, you can ensure new emails are on top by ordering emails by the date received. In Apple Mail, go to Mail > Preferences > Viewing, and changing “Show most recent message at the top.”

Unfortunately, no popular mobile mail apps—including Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail on iPhone, and Google’s own Gmail app—have this option built in. There may be some lesser-known email apps with this feature, but we haven’t found any well-known ones we can recommend.

Gmail is arguably the best email service on the Internet. Don’t worry, there are a few ways you can fix your reversed Gmail conversation view order. Here’s how to ungroup emails in Gmail and view your newest emails at the top of your inbox.

Option 1: Disable Conversation View & Turn Off Gmail Threading

The “Conversation View” option in Gmail groups all email replies into a thread. This is convenient if you need to see the full history of a conversation. But it can also be confusing when Gmail doesn’t necessarily display the conversation in chronological order.

If you’d rather just see each email individually, then disable conversation view to turn off Gmail threading. After you do this, every new reply will be a new email at the top of your inbox.

But if you’d rather keep your email replies grouped and just display the newest emails at the top, then keep reading.

Option 2: Install A Browser Extention

Google doesn’t offer a native way to display your newest email replies at the top of your email thread. There’s no option to do this in Gmail’s settings. But a web browser extension called Gmail Reverse Conversation can help. The free extension is available for both Firefox and Chrome.

Just install the extension and reload your page to see it in action. As a bonus, Gmail Reverse Conversation will also move the Reply and Forward buttons to the top of your screen. Very convenient! Why didn’t Google think of that?

Why Is The Default Gmail Conversation View Order Reversed?!

If you’re a long-time email user, then you probably feel a little frustrated on how Gmail shows email threads. Unlike other email services, by default, Gmail will show new messages at the bottom of an email thread instead of the top. Gmail’s conversation threading is maddening and perplexing on why Google would do this.

Google is always trying to innovate their products. They even tried to reinvent email in 2009 with a service called Google Wave. That attempt failed, but it shows their commitment to innovation and their willingness to take risks. Maybe a backward inbox is part of their innovation strategy.

No it unfortunately doesn’t. It’s worth noting that Gmail’s default is Conversation View ON and we recommend using it that way. Over the years Gmail has made a number of improvements to Conversation View and there are numerous benefits to organizing email this way.

Sortd relies on Conversation view to be Switched ON in order its’ email sharing functionality to function correctly. While some of Sortd’s features may work without conversation view, we certainly don’t recommend it particularly if you are working in a team.

To switch of Gmail Conversation ON, follow these easy steps:

Step 1. Open Gmail Settings using the settings cog at the top of Gmail and then scroll to the bottom and check the Conversation View check box as shown below.

Step 2. Gmail will ask you to reload and that’s all you need to do!

Note: Gmail has made a number of good improvements to Conversation View over the years. Previously, Conversation View caused an issue when different emails were sent with the same subject line. Google now more intelligently groups related emails together and separates out unrelated emails onto their own threads learn more here.

If you want to rather continue with Conversation View OFF:

Gmail allows users to turn Conversation View Off, which means that each new email is standalone and not grouped into an Email Thread or Conversation as is the default Gmail mode.

Prior to Sortd release 0.20.11 Sortd allowed Conversation View to be turned off, but this only partially worked in that messages in the Sortd Inbox would still be grouped by Thread, although only the latest message would be displayed in the message preview. From 0.20.11 the Inbox is now displayed in single message view too.

It is NOT recommended that one switches between these two modes regularly, as any tasks created in Sortd will reference either the Thread (if in Conversation View mode when the Task was created) or the single email message (if not in Conversation View mode), and switching between the modes will NOT cause the Task emails to be updated accordingly.

When you view Tasks in single message mode that were created in the Thread mode (Conversation View), you will see the most recent email message on that Thread at the point when you switched, not the latest message on the Thread.

Anything you do in single message mode will only affect one message on the thread, so if you archive a message or task it in single message mode, then if you switch back to thread mode, if that thread has more than just that one message it may show up in the Sortd Inbox again.

Similarly to viewing the email, if you apply labels etc to an email on a task it’ll also apply to that specific message on the thread if in single message mode.

A thread of email messages on a cellphone works the same way as it does on a web or desktop email application. In most cases, grouping emails into a thread is the default behavior, but you can usually edit your email preferences if you would rather view your messages individually. Email Threading on an iOS Device

The Apple iOS built-in Mail application has several settings controlling email threading. Email threading is turned on by default.

Go to Settings, and select Mail.

Scroll down to Threading.

You have the following options to choose from:

  • Organize by Thread: This setting controls whether threading is used at all in emails. Toggle this off to turn off threading completely. The default is “on” which displays a green icon.
  • Collapse Read Messages: This enables collapsing messages that you’ve already read.
  • Most Recent Message on Top: This is off by default, but it seems like a good option to turn on. If Mail does not display the most recent message at the top, you’ll need to scroll through potentially multiple messages to find the most recent one.
  • Complete Threads: This setting groups email messages into threads even if they originate from another mailbox.

Email Threading on Gmail on an Android Device

As of Android 5.0 Lollipop, Android devices use Gmail as the default email application, as opposed to the previous Android application called simply Email. Email threading (called the conversation view) is turned on by default, but if it isn’t follow the below steps to enable it:

Open Gmail and click the three-line icon to the left in the Inbox.

Scroll down past all your folders and select Settings.

Select General settings.

Select the checkbox next to Conversation View.

Email Threading on Windows Mobile Devices

On Windows mobile devices and phones, email threading—also called the conversation view—is turned on by default. To control these settings:

Use the toggle Show messages arranged by conversations to turn this option off or on.

This setting can be controlled for each email account you set up in the Mail app.

Gmail will now reload without conversation thread view. You’ll be able to see all emails individually. If you want to enable it again, repeat either of the steps and turn it on.

On Gmail Mobile App (Android/ iOS)

  1. Open the Gmail app on your phone.
  2. Tap the hamburger menu at the top-left corner.
  3. Select Settings at the bottom.

  • The inbox looks cleaner and less crowded- unwanted messages don’t take extra space.

  • All your messages will have the entire content of all replies in the email body.
  • You will have a cluttered inbox- unimportant replies will take extra space.
  • You might miss out on important messages.

We think Gmail’s email threading is one of their best features, but automatic threading doesn’t always work the way you’d like it to. For example, halfway through a support email for an existing customer, the topic may change as you may bring in a sales rep. Great news! But glance at the email thread: it’s hard to see what it’s about immediately, or find emails you’re looking for.

When you arrange messages by conversation, messages in a folder that share the same subject appear together in the message list. The messages within each conversation are sorted with the newest message on top. When a new message is received, the entire conversation moves to the top of your message list.

Collapsed conversations appear with a right-facing arrow , and expanded conversations appear with a down-facing arrow . Click the arrows to expand or collapse conversations.

When you click on a conversation header in the message list, the conversation index shows in the reading pane. The conversation index shows one line for each message in the conversation, with each line displaying the message sender and the first few words from the message body.

Messages in the Junk E-Mail and Deleted Items folders are not included in conversations.

Turn off viewing by conversation

On the Organize tab, click Conversations.

When you arrange messages by conversation, messages in a folder that share the same subject appear together in the message list. The messages within each conversation are sorted with the newest message on top. When a new message is received, the entire conversation moves to the top of your message list.

Read messages that are part of a conversation

When you click on a conversation header in the message list, the conversation index shows in the reading pane. The conversation index shows one line for each message in the conversation, with each line displaying the message sender and the first few words from the message body.

At the bottom of the navigation pane, click Mail .

Do any of the following:

Expand or collapse a conversation in the message list

Click Expand or Collapse next to the conversation heading.

Show the conversation index in the reading pane

In the message list, click the conversation heading.

Read a single message from the conversation

In the message list or in the conversation index, click the message.

Return to the conversation index in the reading pane

In the reading pane, at the top of the message, click the Conversation icon.

Tip: To set preferences for how conversations are displayed in the message list, on the Outlook menu, click Preferences, and then under E-mail , click Reading. Under Conversations, select the preferences that you want.

  2. Tap the hamburger menu in the top left corner.
  3. Select Parameters basically.
  4. On the next screen, tap the Gmail account whose settings you want to change.
  5. Here, uncheck the box for Conversation display.

The tree view consolidates the sender details, the timeline, the folders, attachments in the individual emails in the conversation. You can turn off the conversation view, if you are a fan of classic email style, with each email treated as an individual item. The actions and the view will be in classic style. However, the emails that are a part of conversations will be indicated with the ‘Conversation’ icon. You can click the conversation icon on the listing to open the conversation in the preview pane.В

Selecting the email normally will open only that particular email and any action like Delete, Move and so on will affect only those emails.

You can also click the Conversation icon in the header region of the email open in preview, to open the entire conversation in a new tab.В

The conversation settings do not apply to the sent folder. The emails in the sent folder will be displayed as separate entities.

While sharing emails with organization members, the entire conversation will be shared.

Conversation views are available in different flavors based on the preferences. You can choose the default view based on your preferences.

Click Settings В , choose Conversation. Under Conversation View, you can use the toggle button to turn Conversation View ON and OFF.

Individual Folder Conversation View Settings:

Despite the global conversation settings, you can turn on/turn off conversations for individual folders.В

Follow the steps below to enable or disable conversations for each folder.

  1. Navigate to the folder, whose conversation view you want to switch.
  2. On the top right corner of the screen, you’ll find the conversation icon.

By default, the conversations are sorted from newest to oldest emails, with newest emails on top. You can customize the order to your preference by changing the default settings to ‘Oldest on top’.В

Click Settings В , choose Conversation. Under Sort Conversations, the following options are available to choose between – Latest on top, Oldest on top.

Mark Conversation as Read option:

By default, when you open an email in conversation mode, only the emails, which you select and read will be marked as Read. You can change the default option by choosing ‘Mark all emails in the Conversation as Read’, once the email is opened in the preview area. This will be applicable to Conversation across Folders and Conversations within Folder options.

Bulk Action Settings: (Delete/ Move To/ Mark Spam actions)

When you perform bulk email actions like Delete emails, moving to folder etc, in conversation across folders, all the emails listed in the tree will be moved or deleted by default. If you want to have a better control, you can choose to ‘Affect only the emails in the same folder’. This will ensure that any such select and act will affect only the email in the same folder and not on all the emails across all the folders.В

Ever had someone reply to an email using a fresh subject line and ended up with several different email conversations – all about the same thing, but at different stages of the conversation?

Annoying isn’t it.

Here is a great little hack you can use to get around this very common and inconvenient issue. And yes, it involves copy and paste! Technical eh?

  1. Chose which email conversation you want to be the main consolidated one – probably the most recent one where people are still sending replies, or the one with the clearest subject line if the conversation is dead.
  2. Go to the other conversations, scroll to the most recent email in it, expand the conversation history below, and copy everything from the top of the most recent email to the end of the history.How to see new emails on top of gmail conversation threads
  3. Go back to your conversation which you’ve chosen to consolidate and create a new reply at the bottom, sending it to yourself only. Paste in everything you’ve just copied and send.
  4. Rinse and repeat for any other old scattered threads on the same subject which you want consolidated.
  5. And voila. You have 1 current email conversation where you can see everything that has been said about the subject, all in one conversation view.

Remember – make sure you keep private emails out of the thread history within a conversation.

  1. Google Chrome: install Gmail reverse conversation.
    Tip: Click Add to Chrome followed by Add extension.
    Firefox: install Gmail reverse conversation.

Threaded email messages are a feature provided by Gmail that reduces clutter in a user’s inbox and makes it easier to follow email conversations. Instead of adding a new message to your inbox every time there is a reply on the original message, Gmail instead groups all these messages together in what is referred to as the “conversation view.” This feature is handy for keeping track of a conversation without having to search through separate emails, but if you don’t like it you can turn it off.

Navigate to the Gmail website (see Resources) and enter your username and password and click the “sign in” button.

Click the “Settings” button on the upper-right side of the screen for a drop-down menu.

Click the “Settings” link from the drop-down menu and click the “General” tab at the top of the screen.

Scroll down to the Conversation View section and click the “Conversation View Off” radio button.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “Save Changes” button. This returns you to your inbox with the threaded email messages turned off.

These lesser-known tips can save you from irritation and emails that fall through the cracks.

If you use Gmail daily on a computer for work or personal use — or both at the same time as I do — are you making the most of Google’s email client? Gmail has a host of features that can help you better manage the constant flow of messages to and from your Gmail inbox.

I lay out my top seven tips to set you on the path to becoming a Gmail pro. If you already use them all, congratulations. If not, try incorporating at least one or two into your routine, if not the whole bundle. You’ll thank yourself in the long run.

1. Mute annoyingly noisy email threads

Getting stuck on a group email thread can be as annoying on a laptop as a group text on your phone. You’ve got enough distractions during the workday, especially if you’re working from home , that you certainly don’t need to see a group email continually calling out to you at the top of your inbox as new replies arrive.

If you have an active group email and no longer care to follow the back-and-forth chatter, you can opt out. Open the thread, click the triple-dot button at the top and click Mute. The conversation will be moved to your archive, where it will remain even when more replies arrive.

If you later get curious about what you missed, you can always find it in the All Mail view of Gmail, which includes your archived messages. You can then unmute the conversation if you so choose by opening the conversation and clicking the X button next to the Mute label at the top of the page. Once unmuted, the next time you receive a reply, it will show up at the top of your inbox.

2. Snooze so you don’t forget

Just like the snooze button on your alarm that you employ when you aren’t ready to get out of bed, Gmail has a snooze button for messages you aren’t ready to respond to but don’t want to lose track of in your inbox. Hover over a message in your inbox and click the little clock button on the right and pick a later time and date — later today, tomorrow, next week or a specific time you set — for it to appear back at the top of your inbox.

3. Reading pane for an Outlook-like look

If you’ve got a big display, I encourage you to make use of your luxurious screen real estate and use Gmail’s reading pane. It makes Gmail look and feel more like Outlook, where you can view and respond to messages without leaving the inbox. Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner to open the Quick Settings panel, scroll down to Reading pane and select Right of inbox or Below inbox to split your view horizontally or vertically.

4. Choose your tabs

Gmail does an admirable job of filtering your inbox so the messages you care about go to your inbox while the rest get relegated to the Social or Promotional tabs. Click the gear icon and then click See all settings. On the Settings page, select Inbox and in the Categories section at the top, you can choose which tabs you want at the top of your inbox. Or if you simply ignore all tabs other than your Primary inbox, then you can uncheck all but Primary for a streamlined, tab-less Gmail experience. To save, scroll down and hit the Save Changes button.

5. Enable auto-advance and thank me later

I spend a large chunk at the beginning and end of each workday deleting unwanted emails. I prefer to open each email before deleting it so I can take at least a quick glance at it before discarding it. By default, Gmail sends you back to your inbox instead of the next message when you delete an opened message, which requires more clicks and time to clean out your inbox. You can change this behavior in settings, however, so you advance to the previous or next message after you delete an opened message.

In settings, click Advanced and you’ll see Auto-advance at the top. Click the radio dial on the right for Enable to turn on. And if you head back to Settings > General and scroll down to Auto-advance, you can choose to go to the next (newer) or previous (older) conversation. To save, scroll down and hit the Save Changes button.

6. Email large attachments via Google Drive

There’s a little Drive icon at the bottom of Gmail’s compose window. It lets you attach files you have stored in Drive or simply send a link. For Google Drive formats — Docs, Sheets, Slides and so on — your only option is to send a link to the file. For other file types — PDFs, Word docs, images — you have the option of sending them as an attachment or a Drive link, which lets you share files larger than Gmail’s 25MB size limit for attachments.

7. Hiding in plain sight: Advanced search

With Google behind Gmail, it’s no surprise that Gmail offers powerful search tools. You’ve likely used the search bar above your inbox to dig up an old email based on a keyword or sender, but it can do so much more. Click the little down-arrow button on the right of the search bar to open Gmail’s advanced search panel where you can search for date ranges and attachment sizes, by subject line and with other filters.

If you’ve ever been roped into a massive email thread, you know how exasperating “reply all” messages can be, especially when they have nothing to do with you. As soon as you click on a new message in the thread, three more come in.

Thankfully, Gmail has a quick fix for that: the “Mute” button.

Here’s how you find it.

To find the “Mute” button, go to the email thread you want hidden.

Find the dropdown menu above the thread and all the way to the right.

Once you click “Mute,” the thread will be archived, but no longer visible in your inbox.

If you have a change of heart and need it again, it’s still searchable.

Another way to get out of an email thread is simply to ask to be removed.

“It sucks when you’re stuck on an email thread of declining relevance,” writes office culture expert Jocelyn K. Glei in “Unsubscribe: How to kill email anxiety, avoid distractions, and get real work done.”

Glei offers a graceful way of escaping a thread by saying this: “Looks like you guys have taken the reins on this conversation! Would you mind moving me to ‘bcc’ so that I can bow out?”

If the chain isn’t work-related, however, Glei gives a more personal example to keep things amiable: “Sean — Would you mind moving me to ‘bcc’ when you respond? I’m waging war on inbox clutter this week. ;)”

Whatever you do, don’t ask to be removed from an email thread via “reply all.”

You may end up in a hellish echo chamber with a million people asking to be let out, like NHS employees were in 2016. The UK health service’s 1.2 million employees received a “test” email, which caused some of them to hit “reply all,” asking to be taken off the recipient list. Since a single email in the thread reaches 1.2 million accounts, NHS’s servers slowed down considerably when dozens of annoyed employees sent a collective 140 million emails.

The same thing happened to 11,543 Microsoft employees last January, when an employee reportedly sent out a message to the entire company explaining how to change their GitHub accounts to get fewer notifications.

The irony was not lost on employees, one of whom described the fiasco as a “reply allpocalypse.” The moral of the story: don’t, under any circumstances, hit “reply all” to thousands of people.

1. Click the gear (Settings) icon at the top right.

2. Go to Settings and then click General

3. Click the radio button for turning on/ off the Conversation View

4. Click Save Changes

To turn off Conversation View in the Gmail mobile app:

1. Click the menu bar (3 line icon) in the top left of the Gmail app

2. Click on the gear icon near the bottom to access the Settings

3. Select General Settings

4. Uncheck the Conversation View box

5. Return to the email list

To turn off Conversation View in Outlook/Hotmail on your Desktop:

1. Click the gear (Settings) icon at the top right

2. Click on View All Outlook Settings

In this week’s tech-support column at Lifehacker, we’re tackling a relatively simple problem in Gmail—but one that’s probably very annoying if you’re particular about how your email looks. (It’s OK to be particular!)

Though a Lifehacker reader technically sent this question in, I owe it to you, the readers, to confess that it was actually Managing Editor Virginia Smith’s mom. And she technically sent the question to Virginia, not to me, but I liked it enough that I thought it was worth discussing. Ms. Smith writes:

“Please do a hack about how to deal those annoying gmail strings. They are maddening.”

Upon further investigation, she clarified:

“The way they don’t show some of the replies and repeat others and put the answer to the last email at the bottom of the string and on and on. You can’t even get to the latest message usually. Very maddening.”

I think what Virginia’s mom is ultimately getting at is that she’d like a few more options to customize Gmail to her liking—if they exist. Here’s the good news: They do exist, whether you’re messing with settings in Gmail itself or using third-party extensions to hack together whatever layout you most love to use.

Organize Your Gmail Inbox Fast by Right-Clicking

I hang my geeky head in shame for never trying this earlier, but I just noticed the other day that…

To specifically address Ms. Smith’s concerns, one easy option to view all the emails in a thread at once is to disable Gmail’s conversation view. To do this, pull up Gmail in a browser and click on the Settings icon. Click on Settings (the word), and scroll your eyes down until you see the “Conversation view” option.

Turn that off, and every single email you receive will now appear as its own entry in your inbox. Clicking on the most recent email in a thread will show the full thread’s contents (assuming people have been keeping the reply history in their own replies), and it’ll all be in reverse chronological order—most recent message at the top, and getting older and older as you go down through the chain.

If you don’t like that approach, there are alternatives. When you open up an email conversation, you can always click on the arrow-up/arrow-down button in the upper-right corner of your messages to manually expand all the messages. It gets tedious, but it’s on option.

No Conversation View: A reader asks…

I recently dumped my Blackberry for an iPhone (not my choice, my employer’s). It’s been a pain getting used to all the differences, but one thing really bugs me – the email display of messages. All the related emails show up on the list just as one item. You tap that and see another list of emails. I hate this, both on my iPhone and in Gmail! Can I turn that off and see just a simple list of all my emails like I got on my Blackberry?

The threaded email/conversation view came over from reading newsgroups and following comments on blogs. These are hierarchical in that replies to one entry are indented so you can follow the conversation. Gmail baked that into their webmail product, and other email systems have instituted this ‘feature’ since – so it appears popular. But not for everybody.

Turning it off is pretty easy. On your iPhone/iPad:

  1. tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and scroll down to the Mail section
  2. the last entry is ‘Organize by Thread’ – tap the slider to turn it from green to grey

Please note that the above is for the native Mail app on the iPhone. Currently, Gmail’s iOS app has no way to turn off conversation view.

For Gmail in the web browser , click the Settings icon, the gear in the top-right corner: and select Settings. Halfway down the page is ‘Conversation View’ and you can choose to have that on or off. If you’ve made a change, don’t forget to scroll to the bottom of the page and click the ‘Save Changes’ button. If you use multiple computers to access your Gmail webmail, they’ll all show this change, but the iOS Gmail app won’t. Perhaps a suggestion to Google?

Outlook users can also turn this on or off, in the View ribbon bar, there’s a checkbox for ‘View as Conversation’.

If you want to know how to turn this view on or off in a program or service other than these, just ask me in the comments and I’ll give you instructions.

So if you don’t like having all related messages (aka, a conversation) nested together, it’s easy to turn this feature off. But you might want to give it a try, if a conversation over email takes several days, you might have forgotten what the conversation is about – especially if the reply is short and cryptic. Lastly, if you are still searching for messages by eyeball scrolling down a list of messages, you might want to give the search box a whirl – it can often save you a ton of time finding messages in your inbox or other folders. The search boxes in all the above email programs and apps are pretty smart, you can type anything you remember about the email you’re looking for – who it’s from, who it’s to, any part of the subject line, or even any part of the body of the message that you remember.

Threading allows you to set up your sequences so that your contacts receive sequence emails in a single conversation rather than creating separate, individual convers ations for each email. It gives your contacts context and allows them to see all of their interactions with you in one place.

You can choose to enable threading by default for any sequence or for individual contacts when enrolling them in the sequence.

Enable by default for all contacts

  • In the upper right of the sequence enrollment window, click the Settings dropdown menu, then click to toggle the Thread emails as replies to your first email switch on.

Emails in this sequence will now appear as part of a continuous conversation in this contact’s inbox instead of separate email threads. You can expect it to look like threading does in a normal email thread.
