What are the positive experiences you had with this teacher?

How has this teacher influenced your life?

What words would you use to describe him or her?

Why do you want to say Thank you?

Start the letter by addressing the teacher formally. Use the same name you use in class. For example,

You can also use the phrase ‘Dear teacher’, but, this letter would not feel personal and specific.

“I may not have always have shown it, but I’m extremely grateful to have had such a wonderful, kindhearted teacher like you.”

You can use your memories and personal experiences of the teacher in this letter. This will make the letter more specific and personal. Express how this teacher and his or her class made an impact on you.

In the conclusion, thank the teacher again and sign your name. You can also use endings like ‘your truly’, ‘regards’, ‘best regards’, ‘my deepest thanks’, etc. Give your contact information if you want to keep in touch.

When you are writing a thank you letter, keep in mind that a teacher would appreciate a hand written letter.

Congratulations! You just completed your teaching job interview.

But, you are not done yet. It is essential that you write a thank you letter immediately after. While a thank you note won’t get you hired, not sending one could cause you to move further down the potential employee list. A thank you letter is your last chance for the school to learn about you, and why should be chosen for the job. Obviously, you should focus on thanking the person or persons with whom you talked. However, it should also make it clear why you are qualified for the job.

It is a good idea to have everything ready for your thank you note before the interview even happens including the address and the stamp. This way, you may make any last minute corrections to e-mail addresses or the spelling of names. Being prepared in this way can also help you be familiar with names in advance.

As soon as you can after the interview, sit down and try to recall the questions that were asked. Think about how you answered, and what points you did or may not have included.

This letter can be a perfect opportunity to reiterate your educational philosophy in a succinct manner or to clarify any question you think may be necessary. You may want to point out any qualifications that were not mentioned in the interview itself that you feel are important. Writing a thank you letter can also help to assuage your concerns that you forgot to mention, for example, your proficiency with technology, or that you are willing to work as a coach after school.

All this reflection immediately after the interview is why you should not draft your note in advance. An effective thank you note must be based on what actually happened in the interview.

Finally, be sure to send your thank you letter as soon as possible, no later than two business days.

How to Write a Thank You Note to a Teacher

With the school year is coming to a close very soon, it’s important to take the time to say thank you to the teachers who have spent the year working with and helping our children.

Of all the gifts a teacher can receive, I think a simple thank you note may be among the most memorable. Even if you choose to purchase a gift as well, sitting down with your child to compose a letter of thanks will be well received and much appreciated.

A few things to remember when writing your thank you note:

Handwrite the letter: Do not have your child type their letter. Instead, have smaller kids dictate their letter to you and you can write it, or have them do it themselves if they are of the right age.

Use a proper greeting: Start the thank you note with ‘Dear’ and not ‘Hi’ or ‘Hey.’

Express gratitude: Be sure to include a sentiment of thanks within the letter.

Be specific: Customize the letter for the teacher by telling him/her what it is you will most appreciate or remember.

Talk about how the teacher influenced the child: Lessons learned don’t disappear the minute the kids walk out the door. Be sure to include one example of how the teacher will have a lasting impact on the child.

Show appreciation: Give another example. After all, this is the point of the note.

Include a proper sign-off: Instead of simply signing a name at the end of the letter, include one of the following, plus a name: Sincerely, Love, With Kind Regards, Yours Truly, Best Wishes, Our Deepest Thanks, Warmly. Don’t forget to add the child’s last name as well, as teachers often have multiple students with the same name.

Here’s a sample of what a thank you note to a teacher might look like:

Thank you for being a wonderful teacher!

My favourite part of the school year was ___________________________.
I loved it when you _______________________.
The coolest thing we studied was ___________________________.
I like how you did/do ___________________________ to help me learn.
You are really great at ___________________________.
I will always remember ___________________________.
I am so glad you were my teacher because ___________________________.

One last thing to remember: don’t email the thank you note. Be sure to deliver it in person, or send it via snail mail if a personal hand-off isn’t convenient. Most teachers like to keep their thank you notes, and having to print them off the computer is a hassle, not to mention less personal as well.

Writing a Personal Autobiographical Statement

Saying “thank you” hasn’t gone out of style, according to Emily Post’s Etiquette Daily. When your teacher goes above and beyond what is required, you can show that you appreciate the extra effort by writing your teacher a thank you note. Expressing gratitude to your teacher has farther-reaching benefits than the initial acknowledgement of your appreciation, too. It can increase your alertness and determination, make you feel more positive and build connections between you and your teacher, according to Dr. Robert Emmons in “Express Gratitude” on the Gannett Health Services website.

Short and Sweet

The “thank you” note doesn’t have to be long or detailed, but it should be specific, describing why you are thankful. You might write, “You didn’t have to let me retake this test, but I appreciate your willingness to let me improve my standing in this class. I’m grateful for the way you support your students.” Close the note by signing your name so your teacher remembers who gave her the note if she doesn’t open it immediately. In this example, your teacher gets the message that you know the retake was a courtesy. Your affirmation of the way she cares for the students in her class encourages her to continue to go the extra mile.

Write It Out

Typed notes don’t feel very personal, so take the time to neatly write the note by hand to show your respect and gratitude. Choose a nice card or some attractive stationery. That makes your note a lot more attractive than one written on a sheet of paper torn out of your composition book or one written on a sheet of lined paper. It doesn’t have to look like calligraphy, but your teacher should be able to read it without an interpreter.

Waiting Is Ok

If you didn’t bring the note when you came to class to retake the test, don’t despair. It’s OK to send the note after the fact. The important points are to show your appreciation in a timely manner and to do so with style. It might take you a bit to decide what to say and to write it neatly. You could mail it later or drop it by her campus mailbox. Alternatively, find an opportunity to hand it to your teacher and add verbal appreciation to your note.

A Few Don’ts

Don’t gush or go overboard with the note — it probably won’t change your grade on the retake. Don’t make the note too formal, either. You can use contractions and idioms when writing the note to make it more personal, but avoid making it sound like a tweet or text with improper spelling, advises the “Washington Post” article, “Are Writing Skills Necessary Anymore.” Improper grammar, spelling and punctuation can reduce the value of your note and give the teacher a negative impression of your skills.

Good teachers not only help students with their studies but also mold their overall personality. Teachers put in their best efforts in an attempt to teach their students all they can, only with the wish that they do well in life. It is always a beautiful gesture to send a thank you letter to a teacher who has changed your child’s perspective towards studies, and maybe towards life altogether.

How to Write a Thank You Note to a Teacher

A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.

Every individual has at least one teacher in his life who leaves a great influence on his/her personality. While teachers play such an important role in the life of children, it is your responsibility as a parent, to thank the teacher for his/her efforts during the academic year. Many people give a gift to appreciate the work done by the teachers, however, there is nothing more valuable than a few words of gratitude that can make the teacher feel that he/she has done a worthwhile job. Hence, it is important for parents to write a thank you letter to teachers to tell them how much they have influenced your little one.

Letter Technique

Before starting the letter, parents need to keep some important things in their minds. These are not just formalities but simple thank you note etiquette that will make your letter a special one for the teacher.

Be Specific while Thanking

How to Write a Thank You Note to a Teacher

Many times, people get confused about what to write in a thank you letter and end up writing phrases that are overused, like, “my daughter has learned a lot”. Being a little more specific in what you want to say is always better. Think about the ways in which the teacher taught and influenced your child. You can write about how your child had problems with a certain subject like math, and how the teacher helped and made it easy for your child.

Thank Graciously

Most teachers feel that their biggest appreciation is when they know that their students love them. If your kid cannot stop talking about how much she enjoys the classes taken by her teacher, add this in the letter. Mention how much transformation you can see in your childs behavior as well as personality. If the teacher has helped in inculcating some new interests and hobbies in your kid, do not forget to mention how happy you are about it.

Wish them for the Future

How to Write a Thank You Note to a Teacher

Though you have filled words of appreciation, do not forget to thank the teacher again in the last paragraph. Before ending the letter, it is also important to send the teacher warm wishes for a successful future.

Handwritten Letter

In today’s world, people find it easier to send a letter, using the computer and Internet. Though this saves a lot of your time, writing a thank you letter in your own handwriting makes a big difference. Be sure to write the letter on good quality paper.

Sending the Letter

You can either send your completed letter through your child, or with the help of snail mail. If time permits, you may visit the teacher and personally handover the letter too. The teacher will appreciate that.

Dear Miss Clara,

I want to express my sincere gratitude for all the efforts you have taken during this academic year. From day one, Mia enjoyed each and every class of yours and used to look forward to go to school everyday, which is such a surprise from a girl who used to give excuses for not attending.

I really appreciate the way in which you helped her learn history which was one of the subjects she always dreaded. However, by making the lessons innovative, you not only helped her in getting good scores in history, but also in developing a keen liking for the subject. I also thank you for encouraging her to participate in the class play which she thoroughly enjoyed.

I thank you again for all the wonderful work you have done and wish you all the best for your future endeavors.

With Kind Regards,

Thank You Letter to Teacher from Student

Although these letters are usually written by parents, there is no hard and fast rule about it; even students can write one. High school and college students are capable of writing letters themselves to thank the teachers who have helped them learn a lot. Most students just buy a thank you card and send it to the teacher. However, your teacher will surely appreciate if you write down a thank you letter yourself.

You can either write the letter on a paper or buy a blank greeting card and express your thoughts about your teacher. Making a greeting card on your own will make your letter a special one for your teacher.

I hope that you find these tips for writing a thank you letter to your teacher useful. Many parents have the apprehension that the teacher may not like the way in which they write the letter. However, what one must remember is, more than the way a letter is written, what really matters is the sentiment behind it.

This graduation thank you card holds so many heartfelt feelings of gratitude! You are an awesome biology and chemistry teacher and I feel so blessed that I was a student in your class for two years in row and your teacher’s aide for a third. But there were still bittersweet moments as I cleared out my locker and helped you pack up your classroom supplies. I will miss your great sense of humor and some of your ridiculously corny jokes! Hahahaaa… But seriously, I learned a lot during these past few years in high school and you were an important part of my growth into a young adult.

Thank you so much for being a fabulous teacher. I’ll see you on graduation day! Woo-hoo.

How to Write A Thank You Card to A College Professor

It is important to write a thank you note to a professor properly so that your gratitude will be shown respectfully. A thank you note to your professor is appropriate when he has helped you in some way, such as writing a letter of recommendation for you. You can prepare a thank you letter that demonstrates your appreciation for their contribution to your educational career in less than 10 minutes of your time.

Begin your thank you note with “Dear Professor,” followed by his name. This will be the greeting part of the note, and should look something like this:

“Dear Professor Johnson,”

State your reason for writing the note as being to give thanks for his assistance regarding a particular request. This request could have been a letter of recommendation that the professor wrote for you or possibly going over your research with you. It should look something like this:

“I can’t thank you enough for taking a moment to write a letter of recommendation for my graduate school application. I am certain that your recommendation will be a deciding factor toward my acceptance.”

Start a new paragraph and describe your admiration for another contribution from the professor during your educational career. Write a specific example of when the professor’s personal teaching style helped you grasp a concept, for example. Give reference to a particular lecture that stood out in your mind as giving you an understanding of the topic he was discussing, if you choose. This second indication of gratitude makes the first one appear more sincere.

Close out the letter. Thank the professor again to end the body of the letter, then skip down two lines and write “Sincerely.” Skip down two more lines and write your full name, and the year you are expected to graduate. Write your major and the current semester season and year on the next line. It should look something like this:

“Once again, I really would like to express my thanks for your time in assisting me as you have.”

How to Write a Thank You Note to a Teacher

Teachers don’t get paid what they’re worth. That’s not an original sentiment, but it’s one that needs to be repeated every so often. For while the best teachers find ample non-monetary rewards in the work they do, it’s also appropriate and important to thank them every so often.

If you’re pondering a thank you note to a daycare teacher, here are a few general suggestions:

1. Be specific. Your words have greater impact when you include specific examples of how the teacher has helped your child.

2. Personalize it. Avoid language that makes the note come across as generic. In other words, use your own words as much as possible.

3. Get your child involved. Young children may not be able to write a thank you note, but they can always draw a picture, write their names, and of course hand-deliver the envelope.

While you should strive to write a sincere message in your own unique style, there’s nothing wrong with finding inspiration in sample thank-you notes. You can find a range of examples below.

Short Notes

Here are a handful of shorter examples that are perfect for jotting down in a greeting card.

  • Just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate the work you do every day. I know we don’t say it enough, but you’re the best nursery teacher Sofia could possibly have. Thanks!
  • Thanks for being such a patient and compassionate teacher for Aiden. You really put the “care” in “daycare.”
  • On behalf of Emma and her whole family, I would just like to say: You’re awesome!
  • Thank you for everything you’ve taught Emily this year. It’s remarkable how much she’s learned, and how excited she is to tell us about each new discovery.
  • You make learning an adventure for Alex. I’m so grateful that we found you, and I hope he keeps the lessons you’ve taught him for the rest of his life. Thanks so much!
  • If every preschool teacher were as kind and dedicated as you are, the world would be a much better place. I know Hannah is a better person thanks to everything you’ve taught her.

Longer Examples

Here are some examples of more expansive notes to a daycare teacher.

  • Just wanted to drop you a sincere note of thanks for everything you do for Andre. We’ve noticed marked improvement in his social skills, and he’s now writing his name like a pro. For the first time, he actually enjoys going to daycare (even if he doesn’t always show it at drop-off time). That’s all thanks to you, and we’re so grateful for it!
  • I hope you know what a wonderful teacher you are. We sure do, and we appreciate it more than words can say. Ava has gone through so many positive changes in the past year, and we know that a lot of it is due to your loving guidance. Please keep being yourself and doing what you do!
  • We can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for Noah this past year. He went into your care as a baby, and he’s coming out as a little man who can count and spell his name! The kind of care you have provided is truly priceless. The best we can do is express our appreciation. So, on behalf of Noah and his entire family, thank you for the big difference you’ve made in his life!

Goodbye Note

Here’s an example that’s more along the lines of a farewell letter (for more ideas, check out this list of farewell quotes).

  • Liam is really going to miss having you as his preschool teacher. However, we know that a part of you will always be with him because of all the wonderful things you’ve taught him. If all his teachers are half as smart and kind as you are, he’ll be a very lucky boy. Thank you!

Thank You, Nurses! 30+ Messages For National Nurses Week

Want to express your gratitude for everything nurses do? These messages are just what the doctor ordered.

For the past month now, my teacher has wasted almost an hour a day with me after school discussing a personal issue. I feel like I have wasted so much of her time. I honestly want to thank her and I thought a note would be the best thing. I’m having trouble writing it because I’m afraid it’ll seem stupid. Is it normal to write a letter? I really don’t want to make a fool out of myself, but at the same time, I want her to know that I truly appreciate all she’s doing. :\

Far Away: Your teacher sounds like a special person. I can bet you a million dollars that she does not think she is wasting her time discussing personal issues with you, to help you. She thinks you are important and worthwhile. Sometimes personal problems that we have when we are young make us feel alone and isolated, like we’re the only one in this situation. She is trying to help you by caring about you. It’s fortunate that you have an adult person to guide you, listen, give support, and give you feed back.

You know, I think a card would be a good way of showing your appreciation. Pick one with a theme that fits what you want to communicate. A beautiful flower, a beautiful scene, etc. A few words like: I just want you to know how much I appreciate the time and help you have given me. It has really helped me. Thank you for being a special person in my life. I don’t think that a heart felt thank you sounds stupid at all. You don’t have to make it long, just short and sweet.

Teachers have the opportunities to make a difference in young people’s lives. Not all take this opportunity, so I think you are very lucky. This experience can live with you all of your life and even inspire you to reach out to others when you sense they need a helping hand.

I think it would mean a lot to your teacher. Put yourself in her place and how would you feel receiving a note of appreciation from someone. We live in a society that is so critical of each other. I find that the plain truth is admired by those around you. If someone doesn’t like it, then it is there problem, they would have their own insecurities. I would bet that it would make your teacher feel or re-enforce that she picked the right profession.

Hope this helps. C (^_^)

It’s entirely up to you. I think it would probably be nicer to thank her face to face, but that’s just my opinion. You could like, wait until you guys have finished talking one afternoon and then have something planned ready to say like, ‘I really appreciate the fact you always let me come and talk to you – it really helps. Thank you’ or whatever 🙂

You should just say whats really on your mind, just tell her how thankful you are and how much you appreciate her helping you, and say that did it help a lot 🙂 good luck x

How to Write a Thank You Note to a Teacher

Writing a note to say “thank you” to your child’s teachers is a special way to show them you appreciate their hard work. If your kids participate in the creation of the letter, it is a good exercise for improving literacy. There are no hard-and-fast rules on what you should say in a thank-you note, but some ideas may be more appropriate than others.

Explore this article

things needed

  • Writing paper or card
  • Envelope
  • Pen
  • Colored pencils or pens (optional)
  • Stamp

1 Buy stationery

Buy stationery. Formal paper and envelopes help the note look smart. However, this does not mean that you should use only white paper. Tinted or colored paper may make messages seem warmer and more personal. This is also useful for a letter coming from both parent and child or one that you are helping your children write: Bright hues make letter writing more fun for kids.

2 Is a greeting card

An alternative to stationery is a greeting card. This could be purchased or could be made by parent and child by folding a piece of heavier paper (card stock) in half and decorating with hand-drawn pictures or a meaningful, fun collage.

3 Find a pen that writes neatly

Find a pen that writes neatly. Dr. Robyn Silverman, child development specialist, explains on her website that handwritten thank-you notes to teachers, rather than ones printed from a computer program, have a more personalized feel. Additionally, if you are writing a letter to a teacher who has been instrumental in helping your child’s literacy skills, encouraging a child to put pen to paper and write part of the letter him or herself would allow the teacher to see how the hard work has paid off.

4 Introduce yourself in the first paragraph

Introduce yourself in the first paragraph. Tell the teacher your name and your child’s name. The teacher will be able to instantly tell who the message is from without reading to the end. If the teacher knows the child’s name at the start, the note’s content may become more meaningful.

5 Write specifically about your child’s development

Write specifically about your child’s development. The bulk of the note should be used to show gratitude to the teacher for the work he or she has put in to help your little one learn. Dr. Silverman suggests in her parenting blog that referring to some particular classes your kid enjoys will further personalize the letter and be more meaningful than vague phrases that could apply to any of your child’s teachers. Parents may also consider writing about specific areas in which their youngster has developed. Telling a teacher that your child’s writing or reading skills have significantly improved, for example, can give a sense of achievement.

6 Encourage your child

Encourage your child to write a few words. If your child is quite young, the message does not need to be long, but the teacher seeing that a student appreciates his or her hard work may be even more meaningful than hearing than being thanked by a parent. Kids’ notes do not have to be complicated. Writing “thank you” and a simple sentence describing what they have enjoyed about their classes or what they have learned will suffice. For very young children, a happy drawing will speak volumes. Having your child deliver the note is a possibility, but mailing it to the school is a nicety. Plus, your child may feel awkward handing a card to the teacher, especially in front of other children.

Before reading “How to Write an Amazing Thank You Note after a Teaching Interview”, you may wish to check out the first 2 parts of this series, Catharyn Crane’s post on “Resume Do’s and Don’t’s“ and my post about “How to Ace Your Next Teaching Interview”.

Phew! You made it through the grueling interview, but wait . . . you’re not finished yet.

  • Once you’re done with the teaching interview, send a thank you email that day.
  • Do this for each round of the interview. Ex. 3 rounds = 3 thank you emails.

How to Write an Amazing Thank You Note after an Interview:

* In the Header – List the Job Title

ex. Thank You – High School Spanish Position

* First Paragraph – Thank them for their time and mention the position for which you applied. You can also say something specific that you loved about their school, students, or department.

* Second Paragraph – Highlight your strengths as a teacher, how your experience makes you perfect for this position, and what they could expect if you were hired.

* Third Paragraph – (Optional) – If you feel that part of the teaching interview didn’t go well or that you flubbed a question, a thank you note gives you a chance to provide additional information (perhaps a better answer) or to attach a resource that highlights a teaching strength.

* Attach a Resource – (Optional) – Consider attaching a particularly creative or engaging resource to the email that highlights an area that you may not have talked about during the interview. Or use this resource as a way to show your strengths in a skill that may have seemed weak during the interview.

* Closing – Thank them for their time and mention that you are looking forward to hearing from them soon.

How to Write a Thank You Note after an Interview

Here are a few examples that I have written. Please do not copy these directly. It is very important that you write your own notes in your own voice. That way, you can play to your individual teaching strengths.

After 1st Round of Interviews:

During this interview, I felt that I answered the question, “Describe how you would teach a typical class,” too generally. Since the next day was Valentine’s Day, I included my lesson plans and resources for that day.

Thanks so much to you and your colleagues for making time to meet with me today to discuss the Spanish leave of absence position at _______ School. I really enjoyed our conversation and would love to be part of your language team.

I am truly passionate about language learning and teaching and am excited to share this energy with my future students and colleagues via innovative teaching techniques and resources. My strong background as a Spanish teacher of all different types of students would be an asset to your department.

Attached is a sample of the types of teaching materials that I create for my classroom so you can see what I would do with my students if I were there for Valentine’s Day. Hope that you and the other Spanish teachers find these useful in your classes.

Thank you for considering me for this opportunity. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

After Round 2 of Interviews:

Had to teach a really tricky grammar topic with an obscure list of vocabulary to a class of students that I had never met before. I ran out of time to complete the activity that I wanted to showcase, so I attached the game cards that I planned to use and explained why I ran out of time:

Thanks so much for inviting me to teach Spanish 4 yesterday. It was really fun! Loved getting to know the school and the students a little bit better. What a nice bunch of kids!

I was a little sad that I ran out of time for the Top Chef activity because it would have been a great review of both the vocabulary and the verb tense in context with some additional useful phrases (¡Ay no! Hazlo ahora. Date prisa). However, I wanted to make sure that the students could use the tense well before having them practice it in partners. Hopefully, (the teacher) can use the cards in her classes sometime this week. Just in case you didn’t get a chance to see them up close, they are attached to this email. Feel free to share them with other teachers in your department who may be teaching the same curriculum.

I hope that through my teaching yesterday, you were able to see the energy, passion, and innovation that I bring to my classes. If you haven’t had a chance yet, check out my blog to see more of my ideas. These two posts are a representative sample of the topics about which I write:

Thank you again for your time. I look forward to speaking to you soon about potential next steps.

How to Write a Thank You Note to a Teacher

Let’s face it, teachers didn’t get into their profession because they wanted to get rich! Most teachers became educators because they wanted to influence children and make a difference in their lives.

So one of the nicest things you can do is to let the teacher know exactly how they’ve influenced you (or your child), and to write them a note of appreciation.

How to Write a Thank You Note to a Teacher

You can do this any time, but the most common times are during the holidays, during teacher appreciation week (if your school has one), and at the end of the school year.

Be sure to use nice note cards and your best handwriting – the little details like that make a difference! If you’re giving a gift to the teacher, you can alway attach the note to the present.

How to Write a Thank You Note From Parents To the Teacher

If you are a parent, writing a small note to say “Thank You” to your child’s teacher is a special way to show him/her that you appreciate their hard work. It is always a beautiful gesture to send a thank you note to that special teacher who has changed your child’s perspective towards studies, and maybe towards studies altogether. If your child participates in the creation of the note, it is a good exercise for improving literacy as well!

While there are no hard-and-fast rules on what you should say in a thank-you note, you must remember that some ideas may be more appropriate than others. Try to pin down your words in such a way that will bring out your appreciation in the most sincere and compassionate way possible.

Below are a few tips to help you jot a wonderful thank you note to your child’s teacher. Take note that these are not mere formalities, but rather simple thank-you note etiquette that will make the note itself a special one for the teacher.

Try to hand-write the note rather than typing it . Not only will a neatly handwritten note add a personal touch to your message, but it will also allow the teacher to see that you have taken the time to write the note yourself. Handwritten notes also seem to be more convenient and can be displayed, cherished and easily revisited by the teacher for years to come.

Use a respectfully nice greeting . Do not just write the note. Begin with a formal greeting. Avoid using things like “Hey” or “Hi”, rather use the teacher’s name – something like “Dear Ms. Liz” will work quite well.

I ntroduce yourself in the first paragraph . Just before you start writing anything else, start by telling the teacher the name of your child. This will enable the teacher to instantly tell who the note is from without having to read to the end. This is easily done by saying something like, “I want to take a moment to thank you for everything you’ve done for Jack this year”.

Be specific on what it is you are thanking the teacher for . Avoid falling back on overused colloquialisms and phrases such as “My daughter has learned a lot”. Whereas this is actually what you may mean when sending the thank you note, being a little more specific in what you want to say is always better.

Talk with your child for a few minutes about what he or she likes about the teacher. Think about a few ways in which the teacher influenced your child, and you can also write about how your child had some problems with a certain subject like chemistry, and how the teacher helped and made it easier for your child.

In addition, try to customize the thank-you note so that is can be specifically for that particular teacher – impossible to interchange with another.

Thank the teacher again. After everything, this is actually the most important point of the note.

Sign it. Believe it or not – people do forget that! Some popular closing sentiments are: Thanks again, Yours truly, Sincerely, Warmest regards, Our deepest thanks, or Best regards.

How to Write a Thank You Note From the Student To A Teacher

Begin by writing a date and greeting to your teacher. Once you have chosen a simple but elegant or even decorative card, start by addressing your note with an appropriate greeting like “Dear Mr. Williams” or “Dear Ms. Suzie.” Remember to handwrite the note instead of typing it on a computer.

When writing the body of the note, be specific about the ways your teacher has assisted and influenced you . Sharing your personal experience will let the teacher know how they have truly helped you.

Don’t simply say “Thanks for the great year” instead, list particular memories that you are personally fond of in addition to a few lessons or activities that you actually enjoyed. Avoid general statements like “You’ve been a nice teacher”.

It is more effective if you use a specific anecdote like “Since you set aside extra time to help me, reading has become much easier and I have improved in all my classes!

Thank the teacher once more then sign off your note. For example, you can say “I truly appreciate all you’ve done for me this year. Thank you” or you can also say “Thanks again for providing such a stupendous classroom environment for me”.

End your note with a closing phrase such as, “Thanks so much”, “Yours truly”, “Warm regards” or “Sincerely”, followed by your name.

Congratulations – now you’ve written a thank you note that is sure to warm your teacher’s heart!

Nope, there is still more to do if you wish to secure a job offer!

Following up with a thank you letter after your interview is an important part of completing your interview successfully and making a great impression on your committee.

Why a Thank You Letter is Important

Don’t view sending a thank you letter as corny or not necessary. If you are in a competitive list of candidates, and you probably will be, you need to send one. Consider this, how will the committee respond if you fail to send a thank-you note and another candidate does?

When a competitive pool of candidates is pulling out all the stops to get the offer letter, you have to send a thank-you note.

An effective thank you letter sent directly after your teaching interview will help you to make the most of this opportunity to communicate your value, professionalism and to get your name in front of your interviewers’ eyes once more before they make a final decision.

Your influential, sincere thank you letter can make all the difference to secure a job offer or another interview.

Create a Unique, Tailored Thank You Letter

Some people may refer to this as a follow-up letter. There are a few powerful concepts that you can use to construct a message to match the requirements of the job and your qualifications. Your teacher resume and teacher thank you letter will act as bookends for the interview process.

While the content of your resume and your interview performance will sell you as the perfect fit for the position, you should not stop there. Take the winning streak further and build on it by creating a thank you note that will land a teaching job offer.

Great Thank-You Notes Accomplish the Following Tasks

  • Express your appreciation for the time the interviewer gave you.
  • Remind the school representatives how you can specifically provide value to the school district and its students.
  • Include information about your experience with handling the concerns discussed in the interview.
  • Add information about topics that you hadn’t dealt with well in the teaching job interview to tie up loose ends.
  • Reaffirm your interest in the teaching or whatever other education position for which you applied.
  • The content of your thank you note is not the only important thing that you should concentrate on when preparing a letter. Also focus on layout, style, readability, and visual appeal.
  • If you have applied for a critical position, a typed letter can be memorable and impressive. Send the letter by or overnight service, even better drop it off in person, if feasible.
  • The thank you letter should be brief, no longer than a single page.
  • Thank you notes can also be sent through email, especially if the school district uses electronic communications. Ensure that you use professionalism and the same care for the email thank you letter as you would use otherwise.
  • Send the thank you letter within 24 hours of the interview for best results.

From Student to Teacher

I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your class this year. I’m sure it’s not easy to teach a bunch of crazy kids like us but you managed to keep us all interested and we even had fun. I wish all my teachers were like you. Thanks a lot!

Dear Mrs. Kinder,

Thank you for teaching a great class this year. I learned a lot and know you helped prepare me for next year. Thanks for always being patient and in a good mood. I always looked forward to class.

Best wishes for a great summer!

Dear Mrs. Wiggert,

I hope you know how much I’ll miss you next year! Your class was great and I learned a ton. You have a way of making dry subjects really interesting. I only hope some of my college teachers can be half as good as you.

Thank You to School and Office Administrators

Dear Mrs. Taylor,

What would we do without you? Who else has the patience to deal with miscellaneous people passing in and out of their workspace all day and hundreds of random requests? We are very lucky to have you in our school office. We hope you know how much we appreciate your hard work! Best wishes from us all.

Thank You Teacher: Help with Special Needs

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate everything you’ve done to help Ellie improve her auditory processing. She’s gone from having her Kindergarten and first-grade teachers comment on her lack of focus in class to being a confident second-grader whose teacher hasn’t seen her lose focus once. It’s truly a tribute to both her and your efforts– she definitely couldn’t have done it without you.

You’ve helped build the foundation for improved academic achievement, focus and social interactions. The impact of your help is so significant. It will help her for the rest of her life. I truly can’t thank you enough and will be forever grateful.

I’m sorry that our sessions are coming to end because we’ll definitely miss seeing you. I wish you well in your new endeavors teaching second and third grade and hope that we’ll keep in touch.

My sincerest thanks,

Thank You Teacher for Work with Difficult Child

We just wanted to thank you for your patience this year. We know Jason isn’t an easy child to manage and recognize the time you’ve spent working with him. It would be easier for you to label him a troublemaker and walk away but instead you deal with issues as they arise directly and fairly, and we appreciate that.

We’re thankful that there are teachers like you in our system. Jason will thank you one day himself, we are sure of it.

Its a good idea to formally say thank you if someone has taken the time to write a letter of recommendation for you.

Here, we have a recommendation thank you letter sample that you can use as a template for writing your thank you letter.

Tips for writing this letter.

Be gracious: The purpose of writing this thank you letter is to preserve the relationship you have with this person. If someone has gone out of their way to recommend you for something, this person will probably be able to help you out in some other aspect in the future.

Don’t ever burn bridges. Keep them pristine.

Having a strong network is the best way to make progress in your professional life. Keep your network strong by showing how appreciative you are.

Offer something in return: Chances are good that you probably have less to offer than the person who has recommended you. But, consider making some sort of gesture in your thank you letter.

Everyone has some way to offer value. Even if its just to buy lunch some day, some sort of reciprocal gesture will make your gratitude seem sincere.

Don’t write a novel: People are busy. This person has already taken the time to write you a recommendation, don’t eat up another hour with a four page essay on how grateful you are.

Keep your letter to the point, and you’ll get your point across much better. This goes for most types of professional correspondence.

Thank You Letter for Recommendation

[City, State, Zip Code]

I want to thank you for taking the time out of your (undoubtedly) busy schedule to write a letter of recommendation for me. The letter seems to have been very well received as I have already been offered positions at several companies that were very high on my wish list.

You’ve been so kind to me. I know it is your job to teach and guide our young minds, but I’ve yet to encounter a professor who works as hard to make a positive impact on the lives of his students. You give the profession a good name, and I consider myself very lucky to have been a part of your class room.

I plan to have all the interviews before making the final decision on where I decide to work. Luckily, you’ve already given me so much good advice, I know that I’ll make the right choice.

It has been an unparalleled pleasure and honor having you as my teacher and mentor. I treasure all the knowledge and wisdom you have shared with me and I truly appreciate the time, effort and sincerity you have devoted in writing a letter on my behalf.

I will keep you posted about my progress, and where I eventually decide to work. In the mean time, please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out with your courses. I’ll still be in the Boston area for at least the rest of the fall, and I’d love to help you out in some way if possible.

Thanks again professor,

Sincerely,

Not so hard, right?

If you want to, you can always spice up your recommendation thank you note with an appropriate quote. Though it is far from needed.

People often have reasons or occasions to write a thank you note to their parents. Although the more warm way to convey a thank you to parents is to say it verbally, but a small hand-written note is very special from a kid to his or her parent.
To write such a letter, it will be great to keep some points in mind.
First of all, there will be a mention of the warm relation the parent and the child (son or daughter ) shares. There will be enough reflection of love and gratitude.
Then comes the thank you part. The conveyance of thank you will be warm, emotional and wholehearted. A small description of the reason or the occasion is needed for what the son or daughter is saying thank you.
Overall the letter will be very personal, touchy and close to heart.

Dear Mom and Dad,

This is the first time I am writing something to you. I have thought of it many times before, but could not ever Collect my words in a frame to express my real feelings. I don’t know how much I love you and how secure I feel when you are with me.
I want to say thank you to both of you for raising me what I am today. As I grew up, I realized how hard it was to raise a kid like me, as I was a constant troubling child from the beginning. My mistakes, my mischievous activities were nowhere worth controlling and still Mom, you have done a great job. Dad, you always had taken care of my studies. If you wouldn’t be there, I may not have passed my tenth grade even. I know how much I wanted to give up studies when we were facing the financial troubles back home, but you still stood like a rock and never let any trouble affect my studies.
Thank you for being there always. Thank you for all the advice, strength and joy.

Thank you, Mom, for calling me every day to remind my lunch.
Thank you, Dad, for telling me “Drive safe” every now and then.

You mean the whole world to me.

Thank you.
Yours
Tamara Howe

So right now you’re thinking, “Perfect! My cover letter and resume secured a job interview, and the interview went brilliantly. I know they’re interested in me and are going to hire me at any moment. I just have to sit back and wait for the offer, right?” WRONG!

Don’t stop the campaign yet. It is a known fact that many hiring decisions rest on which candidate sends a thank you letter. Put the situation in perspective. Imagine a hiring manager, undecided between two “equally” qualified candidates. Then, one candidate sends a well-written thank you letter, and the other doesn’t. Who do you think will receive the job offer? Not sending a thank you letter would be high on the list of interview mistakes.

Aside from the fact that a thank you letter is a marketing tool, it is common courtesy for job seekers to send a letter to all interviewers. Hiring managers know that those who send a letter are informed and following standard protocol. This practice also conveys manners, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.

Below Are Excellent Thank You Letter Writing Tips

Timeliness is Important

It is best to write your letter and send it within 24 hours of your interview. So how do you create an effective and distinct thank you letter that will show you remain interested in the position? In an effective thank you letter, there are three or four paragraphs. The best advice is to make sure the letter is unique.

Make sure you address the letter to the person(s) who interviewed you; send the letter to each interviewer as well. Include the interviewer’s name, title, organization, and complete mailing address. Ensure correct spelling of all names – if you are unsure of spelling, you may be able to obtain this information from the district’s website or secretary/administrative assistant.

Opening Paragraph

Express your appreciation for the interviewer’s time and the opportunity to meet or speak on the phone, depending on the type of teacher job interview you had. List the date of the interview and the position you applied for. Introductory examples may include:

  • I would like to thank you for meeting and speaking with me on October 13th, 2017. The conversation was very enjoyable and the position of Middle School Language Arts Teacher is of great interest to me. I am confident in my ability to make a positive contribution to your district.
  • The telephone interview we had on November 15th, 2017 was very informative, and the position you have available for Third Grade Classroom Teacher is of even greater interest to me as a result. I am certain I will make a wonderful addition to your academic team.
  • I would like to show my appreciation for the job interview you held with me on November 2nd, 2017, as well as demonstrate my enthusiasm for the position of High School Math Teacher. Please allow me to reiterate some of the skills and attributes I can bring to your outstanding team.

Second Paragraph

Reinforce your understanding of the job’s requirements and emphasize your qualifications. Include any information you forgot to mention in the interview, if necessary, but be brief. For instance, you may wish to include additional information about any research you did after the interview. Express appreciation for any opportunities presented during the interview, such as touring the school, meeting other faculty members, or reviewing specific school situations. Re-emphasize your most important teaching skills and qualifications, and how you expect to contribute to the school or district.

Alternative Format for the Second Paragraph

Instead of using a paragraph format for the main body of your teacher thank you letter, you might choose to use bullet points. These allow you to really highlight and showcase your unique talents, skills, and other qualities you can bring to a school setting.

You may select specific lines from your resume, cover letter, and/or job interview to use in your document. Some examples include:

  • A Master of Arts in Education, a Bachelor of Arts in Education, and New Jersey Teaching Certification: Math (6-8) and Science (6-8).
  • Over 10 years of expertise teaching a dynamic group of students and bringing learning to life.
  • Fifteen years of combined expertise as a special education teacher and regular education teacher.
  • Talent for modifying lessons, programs, and assessments to ensure all students have the opportunity to learn and succeed.
  • Demonstrated capability to develop creative lesson plans, activities, and assignments to reinforce class participation and 21st century learning.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with parents to identify students’ diverse goals, needs, and interests, and design a customized and applicable learning program.
  • Experience sponsoring extracurricular activities (intramural volleyball, school newspaper), coordinating fundraising activities, and collaborating with members of the local community.
  • Extensive professional development with a focus on: classroom management, student engagement, and technology integration.

How to Write a Thank You Note to a Teacher

Third paragraph

Use an additional paragraph if you need to correct any **significant** misunderstanding that may have occurred during the interview. Alternatively, use this paragraph to counter any objection the interviewer raised about an aspect of your background or current situation. Be extremely careful with how you word this information. However, this paragraph may not be applicable to you at all.

Final paragraph

Express continued interest in the position and the school district. For instance, include phrases such as:

  • I look forward to speaking with you further to explore this position, as I am convinced that my skills, passion, and education are a perfect match for this exciting opportunity.
  • Thank you again for the insightful and energizing interview. I am confident my talents, experience, and motivation are the ideal match for your excellent school district.
  • I hope to become an involved and energetic part of your educational program.
  • I look forward to becoming an asset to your exceptional teaching team.

The contributions and efforts of doctors are easily forgotten, and many times taken for granted. For those who care to appreciate their work, here are a few sample thank notes addressed to doctors.

Doctor’s Day

The first time ‘Doctor’s Day’ was observed was on March 30, 1933 in Windsor, Georgia, in the United States. This day is celebrated to recognize the contribution of doctors to society.

Saying thank you is a simple act of expressing your gratitude towards someone. It takes little effort to make someone’s day by saying these magic words. Doctors are an important part of our society. Writing a thank you note is a nice gesture to acknowledge their services. It seems, in today’s fast-paced life, we have forgotten to thank people for the efforts they take to make our life better. Although one pays for the services received from a doctor, the life-saving deeds of doctors cannot be measured in terms of money. Gratitude towards them can be shown through small acts like thanking them. Even a small thank you note received from a patient would make the doctor feel nice. It would give him/her the satisfaction that his/her work is being acknowledged and appreciated.

Here are few samples of thank you notes addressed to a doctor. Refer to them to get ideas before writing one yourself.

I am writing to thank you for your excellent work. It is hard for me to get over my illness. Your treatment coupled with the caring attitude of the hospital staff has helped me attain fast recovery. You have always been kind and offered me the moral support when I was down with health problems. It is not just the treatment, but the care and empathy shown by doctors like you which makes the world a better place to live in.

Now that Joan is leaving [School Name] and our family’s relationship to the school is coming to an end we wanted to write to thank you all for everything you have done for our children.

We have had pupils attending [School Name] since our oldest son, George, began in [Year]. George loved his classmates and belonging to the [School Name] rugby squad, and once his younger brother Michael attended a match we knew we would be sending another child to [School Name]! Both boys excelled academically, but also made friends with whom they remain close to this day. We couldn’t have wished for any better experience for our boys.

Joan, our only daughter, began at [School Name] in [Year]. Though Joan had no interest in sports, she was immediately drawn to the drama programme and went on to participate in a dramatic production and musical theatre production each year of her enrollment. She found a mentor in [Teacher Name] and with her help has been accepted at [Institute of Higher Education] to study dramatic arts.

We have always felt more than satisfied with the education our children received at [School Name], but more than that we will remain ever thankful for extracurricular activities which helped our children become well-rounded young adults. We will always think of [School Name] fondly for that.

How to Write a Thank You Note to a Teacher

As adults, we know the value of a thank you note. But sometimes getting our kids to show gratitude to others seems like a lost battle. But with a little creativity and organization, you can make writing thank you notes more bearable for both you and your kids. The following guidelines from The Gift of Good Manners: A Parent’s Guide to Raising Respectful, Kind, Considerate Children, by Peggy Post and Cindy Post Senning, Ed.D., will help you teach your children how to write a thank you note.

Setting the Groundwork

First, explain to your children why thank you notes are important. Tell them that it is good manners to say thank you, it lets the giver know their gift is appreciated, and it shows that they are grateful for their gift. Somewhere in the note, have your child write about why the gift was important to them or how they have used it already. If the present was a gift card or money, let your child tell what they bought with it.

Use whatever system works best in your home. Some moms find that not letting their children play with a toy until the thank you note is written is ample motivation. Others make a point to sit down with their kids to write thank you notes immediately after a gift is received. If you have just celebrated a holiday, gather the family together to write your notes at the same time.

Keep It Age-Appropriate

There is no need to buy fancy monogrammed stationery for a three-year-old, but you may want to consider purchasing fun markers for your younger children and simple notecards for your older children. Here are a few guidelines based on age groups:

Infants

Even before your baby is born, he will start receiving gifts. So take a photo of the gift in the nursery when you send the thank you note. Once your child is born, start taking photos of the your baby with the gift and continue sending photos with your thank you notes.

Preschoolers

Purchase some fun paper, markers and stickers for them to get creative. Let them draw a picture of the gift. Then write a separate thank you note on stationery and include their drawing with that. If they are old enough, let them sign their name on the note. Be sure to include your children in the process. Explain why you are writing the note, and why it is important. Gift-givers, especially grandparents, will continue to enjoy the photos sent with the notes, especially if they live far away.

School-age Children

Once your children begin to write, let them begin writing their own thank you notes, even if they are very basic. Let your children continue using the fun markers and pens, but consider buying them some age-appropriate stationery or thank you cards. And keep sending those photos. When they are younger, you can help by dictating the letter, or you can both write parts of the note. Older children can come up with their own content, although you may need to help them with spelling and word choices. Try to keep the mood light and fun while writing the notes.

When you notice your children are losing their patience or attention span, take a break. Don’t expect them to finish off a stack of thank you notes at one time. You may need to take several small sessions to complete a whole set. No matter how much or little writing your children actually do, make sure they sign their own name, put on the stamp and place the letter in the mailbox.

Older Tweens and Young Teens

Encourage responsibility and independence by giving your pre-teen more choices. Take them to the stationery store and let them choose their own set of thank you cards or stationery. Give them more freedom in choosing when to sit down to write their notes, but don’t let them wait too long. Continue working on the notes with them, but let them write their own content. And try to make the process fun for them. Play some lively music, set out some treats, or even sit with them at a local coffee shop while they write their notes.

Teenagers

Creativity in thank you notes isn’t just for young children. Let your teen customize her own card with artistic rubber stamp kits, digital photos, or calligraphy. If she is artistic, she could even design her own cards with drawings or watercolors. Or, if your teen doesn’t feel comfortable with the creative process, let her choose her own stationery or cards which reflect her individual personality.

Although most teens feel comfortable with online communication, encourage them to write hand-written notes. If their primary communication with the gift-giver is through email, then that is acceptable, but handwritten thank you notes are always preferred. Be sure to give your teen encouragement, such as letting them know any comments you receive from the gift-giver about the note. As a basic life lesson, let your teen know that when they begin their job search, handwritten thank you notes will give them an edge in the interview process. So not only will their thank you notes to Grandma be appreciated today, but writing them will give your teens good practice for the business world.

Adult Children

When your children reach adulthood, they will be on their own to write their thank you notes, but you can continue encouraging them. Without nagging your adult child, remind them to send thank you notes, give them positive reinforcement, and give them sets of thank you notes and stationery as gifts. Once they have their own children, encourage them to follow the same traditions you set for them. And be sure to let both your children and grandchildren know how much you appreciate their thank you notes.

Concluding Thoughts

Sometimes getting your kids to write thank you notes can be a difficult process. But keeping the process fun will help things go much smoother. Whenever possible, write your notes together as a family, keep the environment fun, provide favorite snacks and drinks, and even offer to take them out for ice cream after. And when possible, take photos of your children with their individual gifts to include in the thank you notes — it will involve your children in the process, and the gift-giver will appreciate the effort. And always make sure your kids understand that showing gratitude and thankfulness are important parts of receiving gifts.
