If you have found yourself in that scenario, you’re in luck. Twitter announced this week that it has enabled “Night Mode” on its website.

A dark mode for Twitter on the desktop isn’t necessarily anything new as dedicated Twitter apps like TweetDeck already have the option. It has also been available for a while on the Android and iOS Twitter apps. Now, after a brief stint in beta, the feature has come to the web version. It gives desktop users’ eyes a break from all the bright white in the background.

The availability of Night Mode was announced through the company’s Support channel:

Ostensibly, this makes Twitter easier to use in low-light environments since it’s less harsh on your eyes. Personally, I just think it makes Twitter look really cool. Here’s how to activate it.

Twitter’s Smartphone Apps

Open Twitter’s app on your smartphone and click on your profile picture in the top left corner to open the menu.

How to activate twitter’s night mode

Social websites have become a part of our lives. Not checking for updates or notifications on them feels that there is something that we have missed in our daily routine. Even if we don’t manage to take out time during the day we like to browse through our cell phone or laptop before we enter into our slumber mode.

Bright monitors are quite uncomfortable to work with at night. People immediately fumble with their system to lower the brightness of the display. Realising that we love to use our devices during the night Twitter came up with a wonderful idea – Night Mode. The Night Mode is quite welcoming to the eyes and gives are relaxing effect while you comfortably check for Tweets or perform other Twitter related activities. With this mode, others sleeping in the room are not bothered by the light.

The Night Mode lets the microblogging service display darker colours on both its versions – Twitter desktop and mobile app. With this feature, the colour scheme of Twitter changes from light to dark to adjust with the night or early morning surroundings.

Although this mode was introduced on Twitter for both Android and iOS platforms on their mobile app last year they now introduced this feature to the desktop service too. The service is being made available to all the desktop users.

Activating the feature is pretty simple and can be done within seconds. Here is how to enable night mode in Twitter on a computer.

Check whether Night Mode has been enabled on the web version of Twitter. Clicking on your profile icon lets you see whether or not the Night Mode has been listed in the menu.

Now that you are aware of how to enable night mode in Twitter on a computer you can enjoy Tweeting without having to strain your eyes or disturbing anyone.

When you’re sitting in a dark conference room or cozy in your bed about to go to sleep, cracking open your laptop to look at Twitter can feel akin to looking directly into the sun. Sometimes the white background is great, other times, something a little darker would be a welcome change.

First debuted in its Android and iOS apps, Twitter finally started rolling out Dark Mode to the web this week, and I bet the person sitting next to me on my next red-eye flight is pretty stoked about the development (I know I was when I read this post in TechCrunch ).

To activate the mode on the web, you just click on your avatar at the top right-hand side of the page and then select “Night Mode” from the bottom of the list that appears. When you’re ready to take things back to normal, you turn the mode off by doing literally the exact same thing.

Since it is a “roll out” rather than a launch, there’s a chance the feature might not be available to you just yet. If you don’t see it, wait a day or two and give it a shot again.

The dark blue hue is actually a really pleasant way to view the site, and for me makes things a lot easier to read. I’ve been using it for a little while now, and I’m not sure I’ll ever go back.

How to activate twitter’s night mode

– It’s easy to enable; takes two seconds

(Pocket-lint) – Did you know Twitter has a Night mode feature?

Well, Twitter’s iOS and Android apps have offered the feature since last year, but now, it’s available on the desktop. Night mode re-skins the app and site so that they appear darker, making it easer to read your feed and tweets in environments with less light. Dedicated Twitter apps like TweetDeck for Mac already display dark hues, so this feature is really for people who prefer to use actual Twitter.

Here’s how to turn on the feature on Twitter.com, and if you’re unsure how to turn it on the Twitter apps, we’ve covered that, too.

What is Twitter Night mode?

Night mode is essentially a theme you can choose for Twitter.com and the Twitter mobile apps. Enabling Night mode turns Twitter’s white and light blue theme into a dark navy blue. The feature is not on by default; you have to toggle it on.

How to turn on Twitter Night mode

Desktops

  • Go to twitter.com in your browser and sign in.
  • Click on your profile photo.
  • Select Night mode from the drop-down menu.

iOS devices

  • Open the Twitter for iOS app.
  • In the top menu, tap your profile icon.
  • Tap the night mode icon.

How to activate twitter’s night mode

Twitter brought Night Mode to its official app just a short while back. Although the feature had been available for Android users for quite a while but it was seeing itself slip inside the beta cage for an extended period of time. Here’s how you can enable it and put less strain on your eyes while using the app in low light conditions on your smartphone or tablet.

Enable Night Mode In Twitter For iOS

1. Assuming you have Twitter for iOS (download link) installed on your iPhone or iPad, launch it.

Wrap Up

Night Mode is a brilliant addition to the Twitter app for a wide variety of reasons. But the basic purpose is to make low light legibility a tad bit better than before, resulting in lesser eye strain so that you can use the service for an extended period of time even when the lights are out.

On the flip side, if you have a dark setup on your smartphone or tablet, Night Mode will fit right in with the rest of the OS. It definitely looks cool as well if you’re asking us. But things would’ve gone through the roof if Twitter had a ‘true’ Night Mode with pitch black background rather than dark blue. The app would’ve popped out on an AMOLED display.

But of course, we’re certain Twitter has its reason why it limited itself to dark blue at launch. Maybe a future update will spin things around.
