So… you want to delete yourself from TikTok, huh? Here’s how you do it.
I can think of multiple reasons why you might not want to have a TikTok account anymore. Maybe you don’t approve of the parent company ByteDance‘s questionable rules with regards to disabled content creators. Maybe you’re leery of the app‘s reputation for being “spyware.” Or maybe you’re just not interested in TikTok content, your curiosity has been sated, and you’re ready to be done with the back. Honestly, I’m not judging either way.
So if you’re ready to delete your TikTok account, here’s how to go about doing it.
First, go to your profile and then to the settings by clicking on the ellipsis in the top corner. From here, you’ll want to go to the tab marked “Manage my account.” At the bottom of this screen, quite a bit removed from the other options, you’ll see “Delete account.”
Tap this, and you’ll be prompted to send yourself a confirmation code via SMS. This is to make extra sure it’s you who wants to delete the account. Enter this, and you’ll be given your final warning. Here’s where TikTok tells you this is it, no going back, no recovering the account once you confirm you want to delete. Your videos will be gone, and your account won’t be visible anymore.
So if you’re sure, go ahead and hit “Delete account.”
Initially, I thought there was a 30-day grace period post activation, during which you could reactivate your account, but this doesn’t appear to be the case. Just to be safe, assume that when you hit “Delete,” it’s all gone.
And that’s it! That’s how you can go about deleting your TikTok account. Good luck!

You don’t need an account to browse TikTok, but having one lets you follow creators and provides analytics to the social network. Unfortunately, having an account also means handing over personal information. If you’re no longer a fan of TikTok, here’s how to delete your account.
To delete your TikTok account, start by opening the app on your iPhone or Android device and logging in. From there, select the “Me” tab and then tap the three vertical dots in the top-right to access the Settings menu.
From the Settings menu, tap the “Manage My Account” button.
Scroll down in the menu and select the “Delete Account” option.
If you previously set up SMS verification on your TikTok account, you’ll need to enter the code that you’ll receive via text message. Once you’ve entered the correct code, tap the “Delete Account” button.
Tap the following “Delete” button to confirm your decision one last time. You’ll see a notification that your login has expired because of your account deletion before you are taken to the TikTok Home page.
When you delete your account, you’ll no longer be able to manage any videos you’ve posted. As such, make sure to delete those videos before you delete your account if you want them removed from the social network. You’ll also lose access to anything you’ve purchased in the app, like coins.
Having a TikTok account can be nice for curating the content you want and blocking the content you hate. Whatever your reason for deleting your account, the decision is permanent. Fortunately, you can always create a new account in moments.
Eventually, you might get tired of relentlessly swiping through stunts, home-made music videos, and challenges. This signals that it’s high-time to reset your account – and you shouldn’t think twice about it. You can always sign back up to catch up on the latest TikTok trends.
But before you begin, there’s one thing you should know. You first need to delete your account, before resetting it.
Deleting TikTok Account
You can remove your account from a smartphone or a tablet, and the same steps apply on Android and iOS devices. Here are the necessary steps.
- Tap the Me icon in the bottom right corner of the screen to pull up your profile.
- Access the More menu by tapping the three horizontal dots on the top right corner.
- Select Manage My Account and then tap on Delete Account.
- Complete the verification process and press Delete.
That out of the way, TikTok displays a tiny notification that the action has been successful and you’re back on the TikTok video feed. If you want to make sure the account is gone, tap on the “Me” icon and you’ll be greeted with a Sign Up button.
Things to Know
Deleting a TikTok account prevents you from accessing all the content. And those who made purchases via the app, won’t be able to get a refund. But there is a silver lining.
TikTok actually deactivates your account for thirty days, then the social network permanently deletes all the data. Those who sign back in during the time period should be able to retrieve the data. Of course, you need to sign in using the credentials for the account you deleted.
Can You Delete TikTok Account via the Web Client?
The quick answer is no, you can’t. TikTok allows you to log in and browse the social network via a browser. And you can upload, like, and comment on the videos. But account management options are limited.
You can pretty much log in and log out, without any settings that exist in the mobile app. Given the mobile nature of this social network, this isn’t surprising.
Getting Your Account Back
Assuming the reset involves getting the account back to where it was when you started, proceed to sign back in. You can do this at any time as long as it’s within the thirty-day period. But should you want a clean slate, take a break for a month, then proceed.
- Select the Login, and follow the steps you would take to login to your original account normally.
- Once you’ve done this, you’ll see the “Reactivate My Account” window. Tap the “Reactivate” button and you’ll be taken back to Tik Tok and your profile will be restored.
The great thing is that TikTok will save all your data, including the video drafts you haven’t posted yet.
Does This Really Mean You’ve Reset Your Account?
Unfortunately, no, not really. Reset in itself means you’re reverting to the original setting and content. That is, your account should be cleared of all the content, contacts, and whatnot.
Signing back in during the thirty-day period actually reinstates your account rather than resetting it. And if you want to truly complete the reset, it’s best to wait for thirty days. But is there another way to do it?
Again, the answer is negative. You can manually remove all the content and contacts, but this isn’t exactly the same as a resent. Then there is an option to “Switch Accounts” when you’re signing back in.
You can choose this and select a different sign-up method. Use your Facebook account instead of Google or email, for example. But then, you’re effectively creating a new account from scratch, not resetting the old one.
Not that this is something you should stress about. Most social networks don’t have an option to clear your account then reset it. This is due to the fact that users often want to keep all their data, even when they’re not on the network.
Tik Tok, Tik Tok, Tik Tok
It would be really cool if TikTok allowed you to reset everything and start over with the same credentials. But there’s no such option, and you can’t choose to have your data stored for less than thirty days.
Why would you like to reset your TikTok? Did you consider creating a new account? Give us your two cents in the comments section below.

Making short music videos you can share with millions of people might help you jump start your career in the music industry. At the moment TikTok is one of the best video sharing platforms for aspiring music video producers because it has more than 500 million active monthly users.
While joining the TikTok’s community and creating your own account is a simple process, deleting an account is a bit more complicated. The lack of privacy settings is often the reason why the app’s users are choosing to delete their accounts permanently. If you’d like to deactivate your TikTok account, you come to the right place, because in this article, we’re going to take you through all the steps of canceling a TikTok account.
How to Delete an Account?
Only a short while ago users of the TikTok platform had to contact the customer support in order to delete their accounts. However, the recent introduction of the ‘Thinking about removing your account’ option has made this task much quicker. Here’s how you can delete a TikTok account permanently in just a few easy steps.
You must first add a phone number to a TikTok account before you can proceed to delete it. After you’ve launched the app, click on the Profile Information icon in the lower right corner of the app’s window. Tap on the Settings option and then select the Privacy and Settings feature from the menu that pops up on the screen. Choose the Manage my Account option from the Settings menu, then locate the Phone Number feature and tap on it to insert your phone number. The app will send a one-time password (OTP) to your phone, so you just have to enter the verification code into the appropriate box, and your phone will be connected to your TikTok account.
Afterward, you should once again tap on the Profile Information icon in the lower right corner.
Once the new window opens, hit the Settings icon.
A pop-up menu will appear on the screen, proceed to select the Privacy and Settings option.
The Privacy and Settings dialogue box will appear on the screen and you should tap on the Manage My Account option, which is located at the top of the list.
Locate the Thinking about removing your account feature, then tap on it and the app will send an OTP message to your phone automatically.
Insert the verification code you received in the OTP message into the appropriate box and hit the Continue button to complete the process of deleting your TikTok account.
Keep in mind that your account cannot be recovered once it is deleted and that all information that wasn’t saved on it such as chat messages is going to remain visible to other users of the TikTok platform after you deactivate your account.
Think Twice Before Deleting Your Account
If you don’t want to lose all the videos you shared on TikTok you should download them from your profile to your phone because all the data that was stored on your account is going to be deleted. What’s more, you will not receive a refund for any in-app purchases you made while you were using TikTok. If you would only like to go on a social media hiatus for a while, the app offers some advanced options that will enable you to keep your account while remaining completely invisible on the platform. Here are some of the solutions you might want to consider before deciding to delete your TikTok account forever.
3 Alternatives to Deleting a TikTok Account
The platform offers several advanced options to its users that enable them to be hidden from the public eye. That’s why you don’t have to deactivate your TikTok account if you don’t want your music videos to be accessible to other users of the platform. Here are a few alternative options you have at your disposal.
Set Privacy Settings to Private
The TikTok app can be used in Private mode, even though all accounts on the platform are Public when you first create them. All new followers will have to send you a friend request in order to view your videos once you switch to private mode, which enables you to control who can see the content you share on your account. This option can be activated by heading over to the Settings menu and choosing the Privacy and Safety feature. Afterward, you just have to toggle the Private Account option on, and after a short while, only your followers will be able to see the content you post on TikTok.
Prevent Other Users From Finding You
The ‘Allow others to find me’ option lets you control who can see your profile because if you enable it, your account won’t appear in the friend suggestions other users receive from the platform. You can find this option in the Privacy and Safety menu, so you can just switch it off if it’s enabled by default. You can switch it back on whenever you want if at any point you decide that you want to be featured in follower suggestions.
Control Who Can Send You Messages and Post Comments on Your Videos
Limiting the number of people who can get in touch with you through TikTok is another way to increase your safety on this video sharing platform. Who can send me messages, and Who can send me comments options are available in the Privacy and Safety menu, so you can easily set both of these options to Just Friends if you’d like to avoid receiving messages from TikTok users you don’t know.
The recent updates of the app and the introduction of the Thinking about removing your account option made deleting a TikTok account a quick process. However, this action is permanent and once you deactivate your account, you won’t be able to use it again. That’s why you need to think about this decision through, especially because the app offers a number of ways to increase your privacy.
Edit TikTok Videos with Powerful Video Editor
Wondershare Filmora is an awesome video editing software that can easily convert landscape video to a vertical one, which makes it convenient to upload your stunning videos to TikTok.
Every once in a while it is a good idea to restart and refresh. Maybe you want to rebrand yourself and the videos you have aren’t cutting it. Maybe you split with your TikTok partner and want it all down, but you don’t want to change your account name. This tutorial will show you how to delete all of your videos without removing your account.
TikTok is one of the most popular social networks around right now with over 150 million daily users and millions of downloads. Ever since it took over from Music.ly, it went from strength to strength, growing massively and reaching millions across the globe. It began as a lip-sync app, and that is still a major part of it, but it has evolved into something more.
TikTok can be a fantastic creative outlet, but there may be times when you need to leave it behind or want to wipe the slate clean and begin again. As easy as reinvention is on social media, it’s also easy within TikTok. You can either delete all your TikTok posts and begin again or wipe your account and start all over.
Delete all your TikTok posts
Even though the platform doesn’t want you to delete videos, it does make it easy to do so. The good thing is that it takes just three taps to delete a video. The downside is that you cannot bulk delete them so if you have dozens, or hundreds, of videos you’re going to be there a while!
To delete a TikTok post:
- Open TikTok and select ‘Account.’
- Select TikTok Gallery and scroll to the video you want to delete.
- Select the three-dot menu icon and tap Delete. (on iOS it’s an arrow)
- Repeat steps 1-3 for every video you have on TikTok.
This process is irreversible so once you tap delete there is no going back. You’re going to have to do this for every video you have uploaded, but once done the videos are gone for good!
There is no way to delete videos from your account in bulk without a third-party app. If you are interested in mass video deletion you can search for a TikTok managing app, but there are not currently any available.
How to delete a TikTok account
If you really want to just delete all of your photos but there are too many to delete individually and you’re not that attached to your account, or if you’re after a totally clean slate, deleting your TikTok account is the way to go. You will lose all the content you uploaded and any Followers you might have, but the scope for reinvention is limitless with a brand new account.
To delete a TikTok account:
- Open TikTok and select ‘Account.’
- Select the three-dot menu icon in the top right of the screen.
- Select Privacy and Settings and Manage My Account.
- Select ‘Phone Number’ and add your number.
- Wait for a 4 digit code to be sent via SMS and enter that into your TikTok app.
- Select ‘Thinking about removing your account?’ and wait for another code to arrive.
- Enter the code into the app and select Continue.
- Select Continue to confirm account deletion.
In most cases, you have 30 days to recover your account and all of its content (yes, your videos will come back too, we thought of that as a workaround already). After 30 days it is not possible to recover your TikTok account.
Starting TikTok afresh
Once you have deleted your old account, you can set up a new one and start over. You can be who you want to be, try something brand new, leave old troubles behind, and overall just have a new start. There are many reasons why you might want to leave an old TikTok account behind but either way here is how to create a new TikTok account from scratch.
There was a period of time where hundreds of people were locked out of their accounts and needed resets. If you left your response time too long your account was deactivated. The following steps will work for you as well.
- Open the TikTok app on your device.
- Enter your birthday at the prompt.
- Select ‘Sign up with Phone Number or Email’ and choose one.
- Enter your details at the prompt and add the confirmation code you were just sent.
- Select a username and password.
- Complete the puzzle or Captcha to prove you’re human.
Once complete, your new TikTok account should be live. From here you can begin finding people to follow, make new friends, start uploading, and do all those things that make TikTok such a cool place to hang out and spend time.
Deleting all your TikTok videos or your entire account isn’t for the faint-hearted. It means all your hard work disappears never to be seen again. It’s a big move but could be just what you need to make a fresh start. Good luck with it!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I delete all of my TikTok videos at once?
Unfortunately, TikTok does not offer the option to delete all of your videos at one time. There is no mass-select option within the application. Of course, we believe that where there is a will, there is a way.
Many users have stated that using ES File Explorer will allow you to mass delete your TikTok videos but, because it is no longer downloadable from the Google Play Store or the App Store it’s not entirely practical unless you have thousands of videos. Also, this seems to only delete the files from your device and not your TikTok account.
Is there a way to recover deleted TikTok videos?
The official word is that once you delete a video from TikTok it is gone forever. You may have the option to recover it if you’ve saved it to your phone.
There is also an ample amount of apps and websites that promise to recover your deleted videos, many of these don’t work while others are scams only trying to gain access to your account. If you do choose to use a third-party video recovery tool beware of the dangers and read the reviews.
Can I bulk delete drafts?
Although TikTok doesn’t have a bulk delete option for Drafts, there is a quick and easy way to get rid of all of them for both Android and iOS users. By clearing the app’s cache you can get rid of all the Drafts saved to your TikTok account. Unfortunately, this won’t work once you’ve posted the videos.
To pull this off, go to the Settings on your phone. Android users will need to tap on ‘Apps’ then ‘TikTok’ and finally ‘Clear Cache.’ Apple users can scroll down to TikTok and click ‘Offload App.’ Your login credentials will be saved along with your other account information and posted videos, but the Drafts will disappear (permanently).
TikTok’s popularity shows little sign of slowing down anytime soon, with the social media sensation regularly appearing near the summit of various app store downloads charts. But questions are now being asked about the app and its treatment of users’ data. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman has even gone as far as labelling it “spyware”. If you’re looking to delete TikTok, read on for a full list of instructions.
How to delete TikTok
- Tap the ‘Me’ button to go to your profile
- Tap the Settings button
- Tap ‘Manage My Account’
- Hit the ‘Delete Account’ button that appears at the bottom of the screen
The app will then ask you to complete an SMS verification, which relies on a code being texted to you phone. Once your code arrives, you’ll have to enter it into the app within five minutes. Wait any longer than that and it will expire.
Before completing the process, you should read through the final confirmation page. This explains that if you delete Tiktok:
- You’ll no longer be able to log in to TikTok with this account
- You’ll lose access to any videos you’ve posted
- You won’t be able to get a refund on anything you’ve bought through the app
- Other users may still be able to view data that isn’t stored in your account, such as chat messages you’ve sent
If you still want to press ahead after reading through the confirmation page, tap the red ‘Delete Account’ button, and hit ‘Delete’ on the popup message.
Your account will first be deactivated, and after 30 days it will be deleted.
