PHOTOS may be snapshots in time but it can be useful to have them all in one place.
Luckily you can harness all your Instagram magic in one – and we’ve got a guide on how to do it.
The feature was first announced in 2018, and is now available on iOS devices, like your iPhone or iPad, and Android phones and tablets.
When you choose to download your data, Instagram will create a huge file and email you a link to it.
The file will contain all the photos, videos and Instagram Stories you’ve shared – but photos you’ve deleted won’t be in there.
So how do you download all your Instagram photos?
- First, go to Instagram.com – the website, not the app – and log in with your username and password
- Find the little gear icon next to the Edit Profile option
- This will bring up a pop-up menu – choose Privacy and Security
- Then scroll down to Data Download and press Request Download
- You’ll need to type in your email address if it doesn’t automatically appear
- Hit Next, enter your password, and then press Request Download
It’s unlikely your file will appear in your email inbox immediately, especially if you’ve got thousands of stories on your profile.
But it should show up eventually, so just have patience.
It’s a great way to back up all of the photos you’ve shared on Instagram in case anything ever goes wrong with the Facebook-owned service.
It also means that if you want to quit Instagram, you’ll be easily able to save all of the photos you’ve shared on the app.
And download your photos means you can recover photos you’ve got on Instagram but deleted from your phone with much less hassle.
Facebook has been letting users download their data on the Facebook app for years.
So it’s no surprise that this feature has now rolled out to Instagram.
If you’re looking for an alternative, you can also use DownloadGram to do the same.
Looking for a quick way to back up your Instagram photos to your PC? Or maybe you noticed an Instagram feed that is full of beautiful photos that you wish you could keep and admire later? Try this app.
Editors’ Note: This extension is no longer working as mentioned in this How To.
While downloading all of someone’s uploaded Instagram pictures can be considered cool, creepy, or even a gray area, it’s still a pain because of the limitations placed on the mobile apps and Web UI for Instagram. This is probably a safety measure against people stealing images to use for their own personal gain. However, if you’re set on saving the photos from a user, nothing stops you from opening each one and saving it from your Web browser. Or, maybe you’re just trying to back up photos from your own Instagram account to your computer.
Downloading the photos can be a hassle when you have to do the whole process one at a time. Instead, you could try an application like Free Instagram Downloader, which will let you grab all the public photos from a specific user account at once. Here’s how to get started:
Note: If you’re trying to back up your own account, only your images that are public can be downloaded.
Step 1: Install a copy of Free Instagram Downloader on your Windows PC, then open the application.
This app doesn’t require any sign-in or sign-up to get started — just install and go.
Step 2: Click the Input User Name button and type the Instagram account name in the pop-up, then click OK.
Thumbnails for each image the user has uploaded will appear in a list within the application.
Step 3: Press the Download All, or uncheck the photos you don’t want to download, then click the button.
The images will download to your computer; the time needed for the download depends largely on your Internet connection speed.
Once finished, you can view the photos on your computer at any time without using the Instagram app or a third-party alternative.
You can now download all of your Insta data almost instantly.
If you want to save all of your Instagram data so you can move to another platform — or just keep a copy of everything — now you can. This comes as part of the company’s compliance to Europe’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) privacy rules , which are designed to give users more control over their data.
Right now, the data download feature is mostly available on the web version, but it is rolling out to iOS and Android soon. Here’s how to download your data through the web tool.
It’s easy to download all of your Instagram data using the web version.
- Go to instagram.com.
- Click on the gear icon next to your Edit Profile option and select Privacy and Security.
- Scroll down to Data Download.
- Click Request Download.
- Type in your email address if it doesn’t automatically pop up, then click Next.
- Enter your password and click Request Download.
From there, Instagram will create a file with all the photos, videos and Stories you’ve shared and email you a link to the file so you can download it. This process can take up to 48 hours, so don’t expect anything immediately.
Editor’s note: Once mobile downloads are available, we will update this article.
Don’t be shy. Share this to the world!
According to Statista.com, as of June 2016 Instagram had over 500 million users and the majority of these half a billion users are sharing photos every single day. Pretty unbelievable, if you ask me. If you are one of those millions of users you may have wondered how to save Instagram photos on your computer.
One would like to think that it is as simple as on most other pictures on the internet and you can do an easy right click and save the photo, like this.
With Instagram your right click choices are much more limited. There is no “Save Image As” to be found. Check it out below.
However, the image above holds the key to being able to save Instagram photos on your computer. All you have to do is dig into a little big of code and you’ll soon have the image safely stored on your computer.
Did I scare you at the mention of ? Don’t even worry, this is very simple! So let’s get started.
7 Easy Steps to Save Instagram Photos to your Computer
1. Go to the Instagram account where you would like to save your image. For reference, let’s use ours — instagram.com/eslucky/
2. Click on the image that you would like to save on your computer.
3. Right click on the image. Now here comes the part. Click on “View Page Source.”
Here is a little sample of what you will see when you view the page source.
Holy cow! This might look like gibberish to you but this is where you will find the link to your image and be able to save the image to your computer.
Instagram photos are saved as .jpg files. So all you have to do is a simple search in the page source.
4. Click Control F on windows or Command F on a Mac. That will bring up a little search form, either at the top or bottom of your screen.
5. Type “jpg” (you don’t need the quotes) in the search form. This will highlight the instance of jpg in the source code…and here you will find the actual link to the image. I have the link underlined in the above screenshot.
6. Highlight that link and copy it. Open a new tab in your browser and paste the link there. Here’s what you will get AND you will be able to right click and save it! UPDATE: One of our brilliant readers suggested an easier step here. After you highlight the link, simply right-click on the link and select “open link”. This eliminates the opening of another tab and window and having to copy and paste the link.
7. Now you can easily save the image like you normally would. Yes, you can save Instagram photos to your computer!
Hope this helped! Now how about heading over to my Instagram page and following me. We sure would appreciate it! Just click here.

Subscribe for 2 years and get an extra 1-month, 1-year-, or 2-year plan added to your cart at checkout.
Toward the middle of the next menu, you’ll see a listing for “Data download.” Select that and then tap “Request download.”

When Instagram launched, it has gained massive popularity in just 24 hours. For some of you who don’t know about Instagram, it’s a large photo sharing app which is now owned by Facebook after its acquisition for 1 billion dollars in March 2012. But after some time Instagram added some new features such as you could also share videos and stories on Instagram. Currently, Instagram has more than 1 billion active users per month.
Instagram is becoming popular day by day, but with its quickly increasing popularity, Instagram also has some restrictions. These restrictions include that users can not download instagram photos or Instagram profile picture in full size. It’s very frustrating restrictions for Instagram users as they can not save or download instagram pictures of anyone. You may also find that you can also don’t view any public profile picture in full size and without that feature, it’s hard to identify who is following you or liking your photos and videos. I don’t know the reason behind not allowing their users to use these features and I think it’s going to continue that way.

Are you ready to leave Instagram yet?
If so, you’ll probably want to download an archive of your account, including the photos and videos you’ve uploaded to the service, any archived Stories, comments on your posts, instant messages and other data before closing your Instagram account permanently.
Thankfully, Instagram provides a very useful data-download tool realized as an easy to use web app which complies with the European Union’s new GDPR privacy laws.
The process requires that you manually submit a download request.
You’ll receive a download link via email. Download and unpack your archive and you’ll be able to freely browse all of the media you’ve shared, your Stories and a bunch of other items.
You can then choose to back up any items you’d like to keep forever, retain backups of what you’ve posted to Instagram, take your most popular Instagrams to another service and more.
How to download your Instagram account data
If you’ve ever requested an archive of your Facebook account, you’ll feel right at home.
1) Using your web browser, navigate to instagram.com/download/request.
TIP: Alternatively, log in at instagram.com, then click your profile image in the upper-right corner. Click the cog icon next to your user name, then choose Privacy & Security from the list. Finally, click the link Request Download underneath the headline Data Download.
2) Type the email address where you’d like to receive your download link, then click Next.
3) Enter your Instagram password, then click Request Download.
NOTE: Instagram can only work on one request from your account at a time.
You’ll see a message confirming Instagram is busy creating a file of things you’ve shared on the service. The system will send your download link to the email address you provided. Instagram notes that it may take up to 48 hours to prepare and collect your account data and create a downloadable archive so keep that in mind.
4) Check your inbox for any messages from Instagram regarding your download link. Upon receiving Instagram’s email, click the link Download Data at the bottom of the message.
5) You should land on a confirmation webpage. Click Download Data to proceed.
TIP: Your download link will only work for the next four days.
6) After your browser has finished downloading the file, open your Downloads folder or whichever custom folder you’ve designated as your destination for web downloads.
7) You’ll see a ZIP file with your user name in the title. Open it to unpack the archive.
8) Open the folder containing your unpacked Instagram account data.
You will see several sub-folders and some files with the .JSON extension at the root level.
You can find any media you’ve shared or exchanged with others in these sub-folders, including your photos and videos, archived Stories posted after December 2017, uploaded profile images, non-ephemeral Direct message photos and videos and more.
You’re advised to download your Instagram account data and media on a regular basis and back it up to Time Machine, an external disk, a USB thumb drive, iCloud Drive or a third-party cloud storage service like Dropbox, Google Drive, Box or OneDrive.
Your comments, likes and connections, uploaded contacts, the usernames of your followers and people you follow, the text of your instant messages, your profile information, searches you’ve conducted on Instagram, your post and Story captions, account settings, media meta data and other non-media items are stored in their separate JSON files.
Simply open a .JSON file in your text editor to access and analyze its underlying contents.
It’s also a good idea to keep your download link private because it may contain personal information. You should only download the archive to your own computer.
This feature is great if you want to leave Instagram for a similar service. Being able to download all your Instagrams means that your existing photos and videos will no longer be trapped inside one app when making a switch to a competing service.
Be sure to educate yourself on Instagram’s data-retention policy to learn when happens to your posts, interactions and other account data when you permanently close your account.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this tutorial, Instagram’s data-download tool is accessible to everyone on the web. Access via iOS and Android is still being worked on, but don’t worry—we’ll update this article with relevant sections as soon as it rolls out.
