Every iPhone has a SIM card slot on one of its sides. That slot houses a tray that holds your iPhone’s SIM card. That SIM card lets your phone connect to your cellular carrier so that you can make phone calls and get mobile data.

How to remove or install a sim card on an iphone

You might never need to access your SIM card if you bought your iPhone with one pre-installed from the carrier. However, if you buy a phone unlocked and SIM-free, or are buying used, you’re going to need to be familiar with what a SIM card is, and how to swap one out.

This post is primarily intended for those who need help changing and/or reinstalling the SIM card on their new Apple iPhone 13 device. Read on to learn the proper way to insert and remove SIM card on iPhone 13.

iPhone 13 SIM card Support

Just like their predecessor iPhone 12 series, the latest iPhone 13 devices also come with dual SIM support and the first to support dual eSIMs. This means that these iPhones can hold two nano-SIM cards. Furthermore, you can activate and install both eSIMS so you can use them simultaneously.

Single SIM configuration is also supported on all four iPhone 13 models. This means that you can subscribe to one plan from your preferred cellular service provider, as you desire. All you have to do is activate an eSIM from your carrier or insert an existing SIM card from another older iOS device.

You can store at least 2 profiles for different cellular plans you have, given that the iPhone 13 supports two eSIMs simultaneously and switch between different eSIMs through the device’s settings menu and enable its connection line when needed.

For more details about eSIM subscription, just contact your service provider.

When to Reinstall the SIM card?

There are times when your iPhone suddenly succumbs to a network-related error such as “No network found,” “No SIM card insert,” “No service,” “Searching,” and the like. As a result, SMS, MMS, data and other network-related services aren’t working.

If this happens to your new iPhone 13 with a physical nano SIM card inserted, then reinstalling the SIM card will likely fix it. By reinstalling means you’ll have to remove and reinsert the SIM card from/into the SIM card tray of your iPhone.

The process of removing and re-inserting a SIM card on an iPhone is fairly simple. But following the standard procedure is highly encouraged so as not to damage the device.

For those who are not yet familiar with the process, I’ve mapped out a step-by-step walkthrough as personal reference.

Easy Steps to Insert and Remove SIM card on iPhone 13

Depicted below is the recommended process of inserting and removing SIM card on the iPhone 13. This method is also applicable when inserting and removing the SIM card on the iPhone 12 models.

Follow these steps to remove the SIM card without damaging any SIM-card related components or the iPhone itself.

Step 1: To get started, power off your iPhone. Just press and hold both the Side key and the Volume Up key for a few seconds then swipe the power off slider to shut down the phone completely.
Step 2: Locate the SIM card tray. The SIM tray placement varies between device models. In newer iPhone models like the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, the SIM card tray is located on the left side of the device.
Step 3: To open the SIM tray, insert the SIM eject tool or ejector into the hold beside the tray. If you don’t have the ejector or SIM tool, you can use a bent (small or medium-sized) paper clip instead. Just push the sim tool or paper clip in the ejector towards the iPhone gently until the tray pops open.
Step 4: When the SIM tray is open, pull it out from the iPhone and then insert or remove the card from the SIM card slot. When placing the SIM card, make sure that the SIM card is properly fitted and the gold contacts facing downwards. It only fits in one direction. Just use the notch in one corner of the SIM card as your guide.
Step 5: When the SIM card is properly placed in the tray, push to insert the tray back into the device completely. Be sure to insert the tray in the same orientation before you remove it. Like the SIM card, the SIM tray also fits only in one direction.

After ensuring that the SIM card tray is secure and locked, turn your iPhone on. It may take a few seconds for your device to re-establish network reception. Just stay in an open area where the cellular network signal is strong and stable.

By then you should be all set to use cellular services on your device like sending/receiving SMS and MMS messages or place and receive phone calls.

If a cellular network or SIM error occurs after inserting the SIM card, try removing and reinserting the SIM card on your iPhone and see if the error is gone.

You can also verify the current network service status in your area by contacting your network service provider or network carrier.

Phones are complex, but thankfully, installing a SIM card nowadays does not have to be. It all depends on what kind of phone you have, which determines what kind of SIM card you need and how exactly the installation process works.

What kind of phone do I have?

Depending on your phone manufacturer and even model type, the location, access, and size of the SIM card can change.

-iPhones and Galaxy S8

These phones have a small access tray that is released by pushing in a paper clip or similar tool that comes with the phone into a small hole.

-Most all other phones

The SIM card is located next to or behind the battery and is removed by using your fingernail or something that won’t harm the phone.

What kind of SIM card do I need?

SIM cards come in various sizes with corresponding names. Each size has exactly the same functionality and technical capacity. There are Standard SIM, Micro SIM, and GSM Compatible. Most phones now use a GSM Compatible SIM card which is quite small, 12.3×8.8×0.67mm, or about the size of your fingernail. Luckily for you, Airvoice Wireless has you covered with the 3 in 1 Triple Cut SIM Card designed to fit any 3G or newer phones. Really, the only time you need to change cards is when you change service providers, go to a pay as you go plan, or change phones, at which point getting setup through Airvoice Wireless would be a viable option.

-Resizing your own SIM card

This is definitely not recommended. Due to how small a Nano SIM is, you risk damaging the SIM card if you decide to try to cut the Micro SIM down to a GSM or Nano SIM. It would be best to use the Triple Cut SIM Card which easily transforms to fit your device.

It’s easy!

Actually putting the card in is really not that complicated once you have the right SIM card and know how to access the SIM card slot on your phone. The process is identical for every size of SIM card.

-iPhones and Galaxy S8

  1. Make sure your phone is off.
  2. Locate the small hole on the side of the phone. It’s the size of the end of a paperclip.
  3. Insert the tool provided or a paperclip into the hole, which releases the SIM tray.
  4. Take out the old SIM card and place the new one in the same way.
  5. Carefully push the tray back in.
  6. Turn on the phone

-Most all other phones

  1. Make sure your phone is off.
  2. Release the back cover of the phone.
  3. Take out the battery.
  4. Behind the battery lies the card, which slides out using your fingernail.
  5. Place the new SIM card in slot in the same way.
  6. Replace the battery and the cover.

There you have it. Your new SIM card is installed. Turn the phone back on.

A quick note on locked phones

Some phones are locked and only work with certain service providers, which means that you may put in your SIM card, start up your phone, and find that it doesn’t work. If that happens, speak with a trained support analyst from Airvoice Wireless. Our friendly US based staff will help direct you to a solution.

What to Know

  • Remove case > locate SIM tray > insert straightened paper clip or SIM tool into small hole in tray > pull out SIM card.
  • If SIM tray won’t open: Try different tool > do not bend or twist tool while in phone > be gentle > go to Apple Store.

This article explains how to remove the SIM card from an iPhone (or cellular-equipped iPad) and includes troubleshooting tips in case the SIM tray doesn’t pop out. You’ll need to have the SIM removal tool that came with your device or a straightened paper clip on-hand.

How to Open the SIM Card Slot With a Paper Clip

Opening the SIM card slot on an iPhone is a straightforward process you can do while the iPhone is still turned on.

Straighten the long end of the paper clip until it projects outward.

Look at the side of your iPhone and locate the SIM tray. Most recent iPhone models position the SIM tray on the right side of the iPhone, but early models put it on the bottom of the phone.

If your iPhone is in a case, you’ll need to remove it to locate the SIM tray.

Gently insert the paper clip into the small pinhole opening.

Apply gentle and even pressure inside the hole until the SIM tray pops out.

Pull the SIM tray out of your iPhone.

Take the old SIM card out of the SIM tray and place the new one into the tray.

A small notch indicates how the SIM card is placed. It will only fit one way. Don’t force it.

Reinsert the tray the same way it came out.

What to Do If You Can’t Get the SIM Tray Out

Struggling to remove the SIM card tray? Here are some things to keep in mind and steps you can try next.

  • Try a different tool to remove the tray. A thinner paper clip may be easier to use than one with a plastic outer covering.
  • Ensure you’re approaching the tray from the correct angle. If you twist the paper clip, it might bend inside your iPhone rather than work correctly.
  • Don’t force it. It should be a gentle pressure at all times—not excessive effort.
  • If all else fails, take it to your local Apple Store for assistance.

An Apple iPhone is dependent on the SIM card tools to take the SIM card out. Although this technology is very secure and efficient, but it can be an issue to remove the SIM card from an iPhone if ‘my SIM card is stuck in my iPhone.’

Such a situation occurs when installed incorrectly or upside down and could be happening to any phone accepting a micro-SIM, including iPhone 13. You don’t need to worry about it if you are experiencing this particular problem. It is easy to fix with just a few techniques that you will find very useful.

Part 1: What You Should Do First When the SIM Card Stuck in iPhone

It is not always too simple to deal with the jammed SIM card because if you have your SIM stuck in iPhone, then removing it can be a delicate process. As both your card tray and the card are small in size, but they are also sensitive, and if they break, they can damage the phone. Therefore, you need to have a strategic approach or the help of a professional in order to remove it.

1. Check Warranty

The main question that comes in mind is that if we want to remove an iPhone SIM stuck, whether it is covered by the warranty or not. Normally the manufacturers don’t stipulate one thing or the other, because the main reason of it being stuck can be the misuse of the tray by us, as it will not be covered by the warranty. It is better to contact the technical service and see whether they refer to the specialized center or collect the device by themselves.

    Go to checkcoverage.apple.com.

Then enter your iPhone’s serial number.

  • Now you need to follow the onscreen instructions to check your warranty.
  • 2. Backup your Data First When SIM Card Stuck in iPhone

The most important step is to save the entire information from the SIM card to your iPhone. You need to do this because if you have a SIM card jammed in iPhone due to a mistake, then all of your precious data could be lost.

Tenorshare iCareFone is a professional iOS management tool that can help you manage your iOS data on a computer easily. It can backup all your iOS device’s data to your computer for free. And you can also transfer your iOS data between your iPhone and computer. It is also compatible with the new iPhone 13 and iOS 15 software.

Do the following steps to backup your iPhone data to your computer:

First you need to download iCareFone on your computer and launch it. Connect your iPhone to the computer via a digital cable. Then on its main interface, click Backup & Restore.

Now you can select the files that you need to backup. Here we tick “Select All and click Backup.

Wait for a while and all your data will be backed up to computer and you can restore them at any time.

Part 2: Try the Useful 3 Methods When SIM Card Stuck in iPhone

You must be careful when you are trying to find a way to remove a SIM card stuck in iPhone. In this process, if you happen to damage the card tray, then you may have to spend hundreds of dollars to repair it. You have three main options to remove the iPhone SIM card tray stuck, and all the methods have their own pros and cons, but no matter which method you apply, it is essential that you be very careful.

    1. Insert a thin and small Paperclip into the card slot

Every iPhone has a SIM ejector hole of a different size, and therefore, it is always a good idea to have an ejector pin that comes with your phone. But if you don’t have one, then you can go for a thin and small paperclip, and most of these come with a thicker girth to hold together any paper.

If you have a SIM card stuck in iPhone without tray, then you need to pick a smaller one that can fit into the SIM ejection hole as you will not need a lot of force. If you are wondering about ‘My SIM card is stuck in my iPhone without the tray,’ you need to uncurl the paper clip and then point its long end towards the ejection hole of the iPhone. It is also worth noting that this particular method is available on a jammed card that doesn’t have a tray.

    2. Remove the iPhone Back Panel

The removal of the iPhone panel is one of the most effective ones, but it is also considered to be quite a risky method if you have a SIM card stuck in iPhone. The following are the main steps that need to be followed when removing the SIM card tray stuck in iPhone.

    • In the first step, you need to remove the two screws that you will see next to the dock connector on the bottom of your iPhone.
    • This back cover needs to be slid up towards the top of your iPhone. Keep in mind that it will be sliding up just around two millimeters.
    • After doing the other steps, you need to lift the cover off your iPhone and try to remove the SIM.

    3. Go to the Offline Mobile Repair

If none of the two methods are working for you, then visiting the offline mobile repair is the best way for you. This is the safest of the methods, but it is worth noting that you may find it to be costly. Through the offline mobile repair methods, you can be sure that you will find the perfect solution for your iPhone SIM card slot stuck.

You need to choose a mobile repair service that is reliable. It is always better to go for the local Apple service center in order to get the desired results if you find the SIM card iPhone stuck. This way, you will not be worried about the DIY methods that can become a much bigger headache for you.

    Conclusion

Removing a card from an older version of the iPhone may not be an issue for you, but if it’s the iPhone 13 and you have warranty coverage, then you should try to use it. But if you have a SIM card stuck in iPhone, you have to tackle the removal with the help of a proven strategy, as it will increase your chances of removing the card safely without having any damage to the card and the tray. Remember to use iCareFone to backup your iPhone data before doing anything to your iPhone.

Check How to Use an iPhone Without a Sim Card

A smartphone and a SIM card seem like a pretty inseparable duo, but sometimes this doesn’t have to be the case. But why would you need to use your iPhone without a SIM card? Well, a SIM card generally requires a network provider, data plan, minutes, and text messages. This means signing a contract. But, if you’re pretty comfortable with what you can do with your iPhone just using Wi-Fi, you don’t need it. Or maybe you just want to keep your SIM card away from small children with quick fingers!

    No card, no problem

If you have one of the newer iPhone models running on iOS 11.4 and above, this is it. If yes, then how to use iPhone without SIM card will not be a problem. Recent software updates have completely eradicated the need for a SIM card to get your iPhone working. When you insert the empty SIM card tray into your iPhone, the activation will begin.

You can choose your preferred language and connect to a Wi-Fi network (where previously activation failed without a SIM card). Now after several minutes you are successful and you can do all the usual settings like password protection and Siri settings.

No card – kind of a problem

But how do you use an iPhone without a SIM card when you don’t have a model with an operating system that supports so much freedom? Possibly, you have just received your brother’s inheritance and want to listen to music. Don’t worry, there are options. Let’s review some of them.

    Use in iTunes

Go to the most trusted source and access iTunes from your computer. Apple owns iTunes and its main function is to manage iPhone and other iOS devices. This is the fastest, most effective, and safest way to activate your iPhone without a SIM card. When you connect your phone to your computer, all you need to do is follow the instructions you see on the screen.

    Step 1

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes available on the Apple website on your computer. This will help avoid complications and make the process run smoothly.

    Step 2

Use the USB cable to connect your iPhone to the computer.

    Step 3

You will notice that iTunes has started automatically and can detect your iPhone. Go ahead and select “Set up as new iPhone”.

    Step 4

Clicking “Continue” will take you to the “Synchronize with iTunes” screen. Then you need to click “Start” followed by “Synchronize” and wait until the process is finished. Once everything is complete, go ahead and disconnect iPhone from computer and finish setup manually.

    Borrowing

This method technically involves a SIM card, but you can finally use your iPhone without it. In case you have opted out of a phone plan from a network provider, but still want to activate your iPhone, you might consider asking a friend or family member for help. They would have to temporarily remove their SIM card and entrust it to your careful hands. Then insert the SIM card and go through the whole setup process. Remember, the most important part is connecting to Wi-Fi and then waiting for the phone to wake up. After that, give your friend or loved one their SIM card back so they can continue to use it. You won’t have the option to make phone calls, but you can use apps like Skype and WhatsApp for that purpose.

    The hard way

You may have heard of the term “jailbreak your phone.” As you’ve probably guessed, this is a last resort and should only be used on older iPhones that are carrier-locked. Please note that attempting this will void your phone’s warranty because you are tampering with the internal software of the iPhone.

    You can do it

So how to use an iPhone without a SIM card? The great news is that it can be done. Even better, you can fix it yourself if you have an old phone. Alternatively, buying a new iPhone completely solves the problem. For example, the next time you want to travel abroad but don’t want to consider the idea of international data and calling plans, just leave your SIM card at home and you are good to go. Likewise, if the total price of a new iPhone sounds more attractive than signing a contract with a mobile operator, you don’t have to worry about what to do with SIM card activation.

Introduction: How to Remove and Replace SIM Card in an IPhone

While iPhones are normally known to be completely solid devices with no sort of removable parts, there is in fact one removable compartment. Have you ever noticed the little hole on the right side of your iPhone? Well, that right there is the SIM Card slot, and your SIM card is a sort of smart card that holds all of your unique information. This guide will teach you how to remove the tray holding the SIM card in, how to replace that SIM card, and how to put the tray back in the phone.

    Step 1: Things You’ll Need!

    1.) An Apple iPhone

2.) SIM Card removal tool found in the box with your phone. (NOTE: You can also use a straightened paper clip if you don’t have this tool. The process is exactly the same.)

Step 2: Locating the SIM Card Tray

To locate the SIM Card Tray, simply look on the right side of your iPhone for a pin-sized hole. This is where you’ll be inserting your SIM Card tool.

    Step 3: Ejecting the Tray

1.) Carefully insert the tool into the hole.

2.) Once inserted, gently push inward until the tray ejects.

    Step 4: Removing the Tray

Carefully remove the sim card tray, and set it someplace you won’t lose it.

Step 5: Removing the SIM Card From the Tray

In order to remove your SIM card from the tray, simply push it out with your finger.

Step 6: Replacing the SIM Card

1.) To replace the SIM Card, take your other SIM Card and make sure the shape of it lines up exactly with the tray, otherwise it will not be held in place.

2.) Simply set the SIM Card into the tray, and gently push to get it to stay in place.

Step 7: Inserting the Tray Back Into Your IPhone.

1.) To put the tray back into your iPhone, simply push it in the same way it came out, with the SIM Card facing upwards.

When putting the SIM Card back into your iPhone, MAKE SURE you put it in with the same orientation you took it out with, otherwise it won’t go in. Trying to force the tray to go in a way it isn’t supposed to could damage it.

Step 8: You’re Good to Go!!

Now you’re a master of replacing SIM Cards! Congratulations!

How to remove or install a sim card on an iphone

I like the videos and pictures. It makes it easier to follow instructions.

All iPhones and cellular-capable iPads come with SIM card slots on their sides. A SIM (subscriber identity module) card is how your carrier provides all the information your device needs to get on their network and access the voice and data services linked to your account; if you travel internationally or plan to switch carriers, you may need to swap the SIM card in your iPhone or iPad.

If you upgrade, want to use a local SIM while traveling, or want to remove the SIM card on your iPhone or iPad for any reason, here’s how!

What you need to remove the SIM card in your iPhone or iPad

The only thing you need in order to remove the SIM card in your iPhone or iPad is an Apple SIM card remover tool (included in the box in some countries, especially when you buy an unlocked device) or a small, bent paper clip.

If you’re using a paper clip, straighten the long end until it projects out (see the photo above). If you’re using something else, like the tip of a small screwdriver, just make sure it fits into the SIM ejector slot. You don’t want to mangle your device.

Find where your SIM tray is located on your iPhone or iPad model

Almost every iPhone comes equipped with a SIM card tray*; if you have an iPhone 4s or newer, you have a SIM card slot.

*The only exception was the CDMA variant of the iPhone 4.

Here is where you can find it, given your iPhone model:

    • Original iPhone/iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS: On the top of the iPhone in between the headphone jack and power button
    • iPhone 4s and later: On the right side of iPhone, the side opposite your mute switch and volume buttons

Only cellular-capable iPads have SIM trays. If you have one, here is where you can find your SIM tray:

    • Original iPad: Along the left side of the iPad towards the middle, opposite the side that contains the mute switch and volume buttons, near the bottom
    • iPad 2/3/4: Along the left side of the iPad, opposite the side that contains the mute switch and volume buttons, near the top
    • iPad Pro/Air/Air2/mini (all generations): On the bottom right side of the iPad, the same side that contains the mute switch and volume buttons

How to remove the SIM card in an iPhone or iPad

    1. Gently insert the small paperclip you bent earlier into the small pinhole opening in the SIM tray.
    2. Apply a small amount of pressure until the SIM tray pops out of the iPhone or iPad. Don’t apply pressure at an angle, only in the direction of the pin hole.
    3. Grab hold of the SIM tray and pull straight out.
    4. Swap your SIM card. Make sure you have installed the SIM in the correct orientation by aligning the notched corners on the card.
    5. Re-insert the tray. Make sure you are inserting the SIM tray in the correct orientation.

Note: If you’re using an iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR from Mainland China with dual nano-SIM cards, the cards are placed on either side of the SIM tray, and should only fit one way.

Keep in mind that you should never force a SIM tray back in place. You can break pins off the logic board and that can leave your iPhone or iPad unable to connect to any cellular network.

Always make sure the SIM is installed in the tray correctly and that you’re putting it back in your iPhone or iPad in the correct direction. An easy way to be sure is to line up the pin hole. This way you know you’re putting it in correctly.

“I have just upgraded from a Samsung to iPhone 13, but I can’t move SIM card to new iPhone. Do I need to transfer SIM card to new iPhone 13?”

As I read this query on a leading online forum, I realized that so many people encounter issues while transferring SIM card to new iPhone. Since your SIM card is essential to get network connectivity on your device, you must transfer it to your new iPhone. The process is pretty simple and you can even get your contacts with it. To make it easier, I will provide a simple solution to move SIM to new iPhone 13 from an old device in this post.

Part 1: How to Move SIM Card to New iPhone 13?

Transferring SIM card to new iPhone 13 is extremely simple and you should not encounter any issue if you have a SIM ejector tool. You can find the SIM ejector tool in your iPhone’s package or use a pin otherwise. Just place your old device first and take out its SIM tray with a tool. You can consider cleaning the SIM card with a dry cotton cloth.

Again, take the SIM ejector tool and use it to press a tiny hole that you can find on the side of the iOS device. This will take out the SIM tray from the iPhone. You can simply place the SIM card in the marked positions on the tray and insert it again to your iOS device. In no time, it will automatically be detected and you can see the displayed network on the top.

Apple iPhones have always depended on SIM card removal tools for taking the SIM card out. While the technology proves to be very efficient and secure, removing the SIM card from an iPhone actually turns out to be an issue when a removal tool is not around. At least for most people! A lot of the iPhone users don’t know how to remove the SIM card without any SIM removal tool, but it’s an important life hack that at least every iPhone owner should know. With the latest iPhone 7, the iPhones have gotten bigger but the SIM removal procedure remains pretty much the same.

How to remove or install a sim card on an iphone

So if you don’t have an iPhone SIM removal tool handy, here are five ways you can still pull the SIM out and push in a new one if necessary.

5 Methods to Eject iPhone SIM card Without Tool

These five methods should help you out in a situation where you don’t have a SIM card ejection tool, but need to eject the SIM out of your iPhone 7 Plus, 7, 6S Plus, 6S, 6+, 6, 5C, 5, 5S, 4S, 4, iPhone SE or iPad.

    1. Use Paperclip to Remove SIM Card from your iPhone or iPad

How to remove or install a sim card on an iphone

If you are in a classroom or office environment, chances are you can find plenty of paperclips around you. Look for the non-isolated ones, the ones that look like steel. Straighten the paper clip since a bent paperclip won’t be of any use in this case. The paperclip has a diameter almost same as the iPhone’s original SIM ejecting tool, thus it should go through the ejection hole. Press firmly and gently through the hole unless the SIM tray comes off its slot. Now you could pull the tray by your fingers and replace the SIM if needed.

    2. Use Push Pin to remove SIM from iPhone

How to remove or install a sim card on an iphone

Push pins may not be all that hard to find like you think. Do you see any notice board around? Chances are, someone has just pinned a new notice on the board with a push pin. As long as you intend to return the pin, the office staff should not mind. Borrow the pin off the board, put it through the SIM ejection tray hole on your iPhone and wait until the SIM tray comes off. Now you will see the No SIM Card Installed message on your screen. The push pins have long enough pin-space in front of them to replicate a SIM ejection tool. This is one of the safest methods to remove SIM card from iPhone without a tool.

    3. Use Safety Pin to Eject SIM from iPhone without Tool

How to remove or install a sim card on an iphone

Safety pins are in fact the best life hack tool for iPhone or any smartphone SIM ejection. Needles would do the same job but they are pointy on both ends and you could prick your finger if you aren’t careful enough. If you have just grabbed a safety pin, open the pointy end and do what you need to do. Done!

    3. Use Staple to Remove SIM from iPhone without Eject Tool

How to remove or install a sim card on an iphone

Fragile than the other options we have mentioned, so be a little careful while using a staple pin to open the SIM tray on your iPhone and remove the SIM card. There’s a risk of pricking yourself or breaking the safety pin inside your phone’s SIM card housing. If you need to use staples, you better be extra careful. However, it’s a life saving tool if you can’t find any other way to remove the SIM card from your iPhone.

    4. Use Earring to Remove Sim Card from iPhone

How to remove or install a sim card on an iphone

If you can’t find any other tool, then you can use earring to remove the SIM card from your iPhone. We recommend you to use an inexpensive jewelry because it can be damaged when you use it to remove the sim tray.

    5. Other tools to remove SIM card from your iPhone

    • Use Sewing Pin to remove the SIM tray on your iPhone.
    • Use Toothpick to remove the SIM from your device.
    • Use Mechanical Pen to remove SIM card from your iPhone.

How to Remove a Stuck SIM card from your iPhone

All you need to do is to take a small tiny pice of plastic or paper and put it in the sim tray above the sim card. Then use the sim ejector tool to remove the sim tray. Now you can get out the stuck sim card from your device. Watch the video below to know more about this:

Conclusion: Ejecting the SIM card on an iPhone is a lot easier than you think, even without a tool. And you can find these four ‘tools’ almost everywhere around you.

Why Should You Buy A New SIM Card?

So you’ve got a phone, and you want to buy a SIM card to use a different service provider.

If you’ve been thinking about switching to another service provider, you’re probably wondering “do I need a new SIM card?” Short for “Subscriber Identity Module”, the tiny SIM card in your phone is what gives your phone the capabilities to call and text from your unique number. By purchasing a new SIM card, you’re enabling your phone to work with a new cell phone service provider.

All About Changing a SIM Card

Changing SIM cards can be fast and easy if you know where it is located in your phone.

    • First, buy a SIM card and remove it from the packaging. SIM cards are quite small, and are often shipped as a detachable part on a full-sized card.
    • Remove the old SIM card from your phone. It might be located under the battery pack, or through a small slot on the top, or side of your phone. It can be removed with the help of a pin, or paperclip.
    • Carefully replace the old SIM card with your new SIM card. If necessary, put the battery pack back into place, and snap shut. The phone should now display your new phone service provider’s information on the screen.

Before you buy a SIM card, make sure that the phone you intend on using is unlocked, otherwise changing SIM cards won’t work. If your phone is locked, it may display a notice for you to enter a code.

Whether you’re selling your old iPhone, trading it in for a new model, or sending it away for repairs, it’s important that you remove the phone’s SIM card.

A SIM card — or Subscriber Identity Module card — is like a phone’s ignition key. SIM cards store your phone number and account data, and without the card in place, you can’t make or receive calls.

This means that if you want to set up a new iPhone, or simply protect your personal information from being stolen while the phone is away, you should take out the SIM card. Luckily, doing so is easy.

Important: Your iPhone’s SIM card only holds your phone number and some account information. Your photos, apps, emails, and settings are stored on the iPhone itself, and will need to be transferred separately.

How to remove the SIM card from an iPhone

First remove your iPhone’s case (if you have one) to expose the phone’s chassis. Then get a SIM card ejection tool, which is often included with new phones, but can also be purchased online.

If you don’t have access to a SIM card ejection tool, a thin paperclip will work just as well.

    1. Locate the SIM card tray; it’ll be on the right hand side of your phone (as viewed from the front) and is shaped like a long, narrow oval with a small recessed hole.

    2. Gently press the tip of your ejection tool or paperclip into the hole and press into the bottom of the SIM card tray until the tray pops out a bit.

    3. After the tray pops open, slide it out and remove the small SIM card laying in it.

    4. If you have a new SIM card you want to put in the iPhone, place it in the empty tray. Otherwise, just reinsert the empty tray until it clicks into place.

    5. Follow the same steps to insert the SIM card into your new iPhone.

When should you remove your SIM card?

Some people think that removing your SIM card makes your phone untraceable. In truth, your phone can usually be tracked even without a SIM card in place.

You should remove your SIM card if you want to move it to a new phone, or need to return it to your service provider. If you’ve been issued a new SIM card, you’ll also need to remove and replace the old one.

Additionally, if you’re going to be sending in your phone for repairs, take 30 seconds to remove your SIM card. SIM cards aren’t expensive, but they do contain personal data that could lead to costly problems if you lose the card or it falls into the hands of a scammer.

If you’ve gotten a new SIM card and a new phone, you should still remove your old SIM card. Keeping it inserted means that anyone who calls your old number will still make your old phone ring.

Removing the SIM card will disable your ability to make calls, use mobile internet, and send or receive SMS text messages. On an iPhone this isn’t always a problem, as you can still connect to Wi-Fi and use it to send iMessages — but at that point, you may as well buy an iPod Touch.

If you’re traveling overseas and plan to bring your cell phone, it’s important to make sure you’ve thought about the different ways to save money before you go.

The first place to start is to make sure your cell phone will actually work in the country you’re visiting. Different service providers have different service zones, and while you can always access Wi-Fi, you may not be able to use data. From there, sign up for international roaming and perhaps international data roaming plans offered by your cell phone service provider. However, some service provider have terrible international data plans that either don’t work, are incredibly expensive, or both. In that case, you should consider some money-saving alternatives for international cell phone roaming charges. If you travel frequently and don’t mind juggling multiple devices, consider purchasing a phone specifically for international trips. If you want to keep your phone, but use it abroad, consider turning it into a native phone.

    Going Native

Another way to save money while traveling is by turning your cell phone into a “native” cell phone by replacing the SIM card on the phone.

Many travelers don’t know they can replace their phone’s SIM card (the little electronic memory card that identifies and configures the phone) with a local (or country-specific) SIM card. In general, when you do that, all incoming calls will be free, and outgoing calls (local or international) will be significantly cheaper. You also should be able to use 3G and LTE data without incurring astronomical fees.

    SIM Cards Change Your Number

You need to understand that when you replace your SIM card, you’ll automatically be getting a new phone number since cell phone numbers are actually associated with the SIM cards and not the individual phones. You should hold on to your existing SIM and simply pop it back in when you get back home. If you end up putting in a new SIM card, make sure you share your new number with the people whom you want to be able to reach you, and/or forward the calls from your existing cell phone number to the new number (but check to see if that will incur long-distance charges).

What to Do Before & After Buying a New SIM Card

If you’re considering replacing the SIM card on your phone, you also need to make sure you have an unlocked phone. Most phones are restricted, or “locked,” to only work the specific cell phone provider you originally signed up with. They essentially program the phone so that it won’t work on other carriers’ networks. In most cases, though, consumers can unlock their phones by typing in a special sequence of keystrokes so that the phone will work on other carriers’ cell phone services and with other carriers’ SIM cards.

Make sure you brush up on your destination’s policies for tourist or foreign SIM cards. For example, it’s not very easy for tourists to get a local SIM card in India, so advance planning is necessary.

Also be sure to verify that your phone supports the right network frequencies. This can be checked online with websites like Will My Phone Work. All you need to know is your phone’s model and submodel and the carrier you wish to use it on. The last thing you’ll need to know is what size SIM card your phone requires.

Once you have your new SIM card, make sure you keep the old one in a safe place, you’ll need it once you’re back home!

Where to Buy a SIM Card

If you’ve been in an international airport, then you’ve likely seen kiosks selling various types of SIM cards. You can purchase prepaid SIM cards that are valid for a certain number of days after activation or for a certain amount of data. These SIM cards can be used for data only, or a combination of data, voice, and texts. Certain destinations also sell SIM cards at convenience stores and of course, in mobile phone stores. You can also buy them in advance online.

    Other Options

If replacing your SIM card is too complex or confusing, don’t worry. You can also save money on your cell phone bill by using Internet calling services such as Skype or Facetime. Just make sure you have data roaming turned off.

How to remove or install a sim card on an iphone

I purchased a phone recently. Not only do I love it but guess what? I couldn’t set up a sim card installation myself.

I consumed 20 minutes figuring out what to do.

BOOM! It was easy – and – it took me hardly 12 minutes to completely install it.

Yes, I counted the time. This inspired me to write a post and show you exactly how you can install and the SIM card, in less than 12 minutes, as a DIY. No strings attached, let’s get into it.

From switching to a different carrier to fitting a SIM to a new phone could be complex, at times. Phones are complex, albeit. However, this guide will ease your SIM installation tantrums, issues – or – whatsoever.

So, the installation of a sim is dependent upon the type of phone you have, the model type, the manufacturer, the location, the SIM size.

For instance, other than iPhones and Galaxy S8, most other phones have their SIM card located behind their battery or next to it. The backpack could be removed using your fingernail or anything that doesn’t harm your phone.

What about S8 or iPhones and other latest devices? Let’s unlock this little mystery. You have to peep into a small hole that has a small access tray. It is released by pushing in a tool like a paper clip or a similar SIM-eject tool.

It’s easy. Let’s move on to the kind of SIM card you need. SIM cards are allocated to different devices and therefore, it comes in various sizes.

    What are different SIM sizes?

Since sizes vary, each size offers the same technical capacity or functionality. The best sizes offer:

    • Nano
    • Micro SIM
    • Standard SIM

Most phones are GSM compatible. The SIM card is 12.3×8.8×0.67mm, i.e. quite micro or smaller size. However, Efani Sim kit comes in all the aforementioned sizes and is designed to fit any 4G or 5G (unlocked) devices. You only need to change the cards only when you are switching carriers or upgrading your devices. However, at which point getting a setup through EFANI would be a viable solution.

As a second option, you can resize your own SIM card – this is not highly recommendable, however. Irrespective of a Nano-SIM size, you may risk your SIM card or damage it by cutting the micro sim down to a Nano/GSM Sim.

A short note on phones that are locked

Some phones are locked and operate only with certain service providers, so you can put your SIM card in, start your phone, and notice it’s not working. Contact your existing carrier if that happens. They’re going to help steer you towards a solution. EFANI could offer a trade-in solution for such devices in exceptional cases.

How to replace a SIM Card?

So far, you’ve learned a lot at this stage. Kudos to our readers! The process is homogenous for every SIM card/size you have.

The only prerequisite would be to switch your device off whenever you’re installing a SIM card and turn the phone on once the installation has been completed.

For Phones other than Galaxy S8 and iPhone you will need to:

Release the phone’s back cover and take the battery off your device
You can see the card behind the batter, prompt the slide using your fingernail or similar tool
Replace the SIM in your slot and place the battery and cover back on your device

    For iPhones and Galaxy S8:

There is a small hole on your phone’s side. That’s the size of a paper clip at the end.
In the hole that releases the SIM tray, insert the given tool or a paper clip.
Take the old SIM card out and put the new one in the same manner.
Move the tray cautiously back in.

    Special notes (re iPhones):

For an iPhone 12 (and above), such as iPhone 12 mini; iPhone 12 Pro; and iPhone 12 Pro Max, you can find the SIM tray on the left side of these smartphones.

However, for models that are before iPhone 12, such as 11 Pro; iPhone 11 Pro Max; iPhone 11
iPhone XS; iPhone XS Max; iPhone XR and iPhone X you can find the SIM tray on the right side.

For other models, such as iPhone 3GS; iPhone 3G; and the original iPhone you can locate the SIM tray on the top of the device.

You’ve got it there. We have assisted you to install your new SIM card. Please remember to turn the phone back on.

What are the procedures for an iPad?

Open the SIM tray, insert a paperclip into the hole next to the tray, or a SIM-eject tool. Press in, just don’t stress it on the iPad. If you have trouble ejecting the SIM tray.

APPLE could remove SIM cards entirely from future iPhones, according to the latest rumors and reports.

An anonymous expert has also suggested that Apple will be bringing out eSIM-only smartphones next year.

According to MacRumours, an anonymous tipster told the outlet “that Apple has advised major U.S. carriers to prepare for the launch of eSIM-only smartphones by September 2022.”

MacRumours claimed to see a “seemingly legitimate document” outlining the plan.

However, the document didn’t actually mention Apple or iPhones specifically.

It’s alleged that some US carriers will start offering some phones in the iPhone 13 range without a nano-SIM card in the box.

Users will be able to activate a cellular plan via eSIM.

Some people have to do this already if they buy an iPhone 13 from an Apple Store or Apple.com.

How to Remove Sim Card From an iPhone 5 And Later Model

If you’re preparing to sell or recycle your iPhone, one of the most important steps is learning how to remove your SIM card from the iPhone. Although your iPhone’s SIM card doesn’t save your contacts and music (like other devices), it is responsible for housing your phone number and billing information. Because of that valuable data living on the SIM, you’ll want to follow these steps to remove it:

    What is a SIM Card?

You know, that little piece of plastic that you pull out from the tray on the right side of your iPhone? That’s the SIM card, AKA, Subscriber Identity Module, a smart card inside most cell phones that communicates with your carrier. iPhones use a nano SIM card. “Nano” simply describes the size of the SIM card in your iPhone. The SIM card carries an identification number that is yours alone, and stores personal data, which is also, or should be, yours alone. SIM cards enable you to move between phones while keeping your phone number and data plans.

Now that you know what a SIM card is, let’s review how to remove your SIM card from your iPhone:

To remove the SIM card from your iPhone 5 and newer models, follow these simple instructions:

    1. Gently insert a paperclip into the tiny hole in the SIM card tray
    2. Apply a small amount of pressure until the SIM tray ejects
    3. When it pops out, grab hold of the tray and remove the iPhone SIM card
    4. Swap your SIM card
    5. Reinsert the tray so it is securely embedded in the casing

As you can see, iPhone SIM card removal isn’t difficult but it is important that you are gentle and extra careful while you attempt it. Remember, your personal data is one of your most important assets, so always protect it, and always remove your SIM card when you transition to a new phone. Also, now that you know how to remove the SIM Card from iPhones, share this nugget with your friends so they are in the know.

Do I remove the iPhone 5 SIM card differently than other iPhone models?

No, you can follow the same steps above to remove the SIM card for all iPhone models. All iPhones utilize the nano-SIM card size and have the SIM card in a similar location to the iPhone 5, on the right hand edge of your iPhone. There are many questions about removing the iPhone 5 SIM card because it was Apple’s first ultra-slim design, but you still follow the same procedure to remove the SIM card from an iPhone 5 as you would to remove the SIM card from any other iPhone model.

If you plan to switch mobile network carriers or have upgraded to a new iPhone, you’ll need to remove the SIM card. Keep reading to learn how.

How to remove or install a sim card on an iphone

    What You’ll Need

To remove the SIM card in your ‌iPhone‌ or iPad, you’ll need the SIM eject tool that Apple includes in the device’s box. If you don’t have one, you can use a regular paper clip. Simply straighten the outer end of the paper clip so that it’s longer and points away from the rest of the metal. The picture provides an example.

The SIM Card Slot Location on iPhone

Since the iPhone 4, Apple has generally kept the SIM card slot in the same place on the handset on successive generations. You can find it on the right side of the phone, on the side opposite the mute switch and volume buttons. On the ‌iPhone‌ XR, Apple moved the slot further down but it’s still on the same side.

The SIM Card Slot Location on iPads With Cellular

The SIM card slot has switched location a few times on cellular ‌iPad‌ generations, so checking which model you have should help you find it.

On the original iPad, it can be found towards the middle of the left side of the ‌iPad‌, opposite the side where the mute switch and volume buttons are located.

On the iPad 2/3/4, it’s on the left side of the ‌iPad‌, near the top, opposite the side where the mute switch and volume buttons are located.

On all generations of iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini you can find the SIM slot on the bottom right side of the device, on the same side as the mute switch and volume buttons.

How to Remove the SIM Card from an iPhone or iPad

    1. Insert the SIM eject tool or your bent paperclip into the small pinhole opening in the SIM card slot.
    2. Apply light pressure until the SIM tray pops out slightly.
    3. Using your thumb and finger, gently pull out the SIM tray from the slot.
    4. Place your SIM card in the tray. If you’re swapping SIM cards, remove the existing SIM from the tray and replace it with the new one. Make sure that the grooved corner of the SIM card aligns with the one in the frame of the tray to ensure correct orientation.
    5. Carefully re-insert the SIM tray back into the slot. It only goes in one way, so make sure you orient it correctly by lining up the pinhole.

Never force the SIM tray back in the slot, otherwise you risk damaging the internal contacts on the logic board of your iOS device. If the tray won’t go back in, remove it, take out the SIM card, then re-insert the card again while taking extra care to get the orientation right. If you’re having difficulty ejecting or re-inserting the SIM tray, take your device to your carrier or an Apple Store for help.

Whenever we’re looking out for the next latest smartphone model to buy, we usually consider one crucial detail: either to purchase an unlocked phone from retail stores or to get a phone plan with a network carrier.

In general, we are all familiar with smartphones, their uses, and their benefits. While we often consider sticking to our phone plans, there might be instances when you want to change your carrier. So, you tend to wonder if you can put any sim card to an unlocked phone, and how exactly can you do that.

In this article, we’ll discuss the following points:

    • The difference between locked and unlocked phones
    • Comparing GSM and CDMA phone network standards
    • How to set up a sim card (any carrier) in an unlocked phone
    • The advantages of buying unlocked phones

What is the difference between locked and unlocked phones?

Unlocked phones are mainly those you can buy from retail stores that sell different brands of mobile products and other gadgets. These phones can be used on any cellular network, as long as the carrier has compatibility with the unit’s wireless technology, which can either be GSM or CDMA network standard.

On the other hand, locked phones function within the terms of the cellular network store you bought it from. Meaning, you can’t replace the sim card from another network carrier unless you have the unit unlocked.

You already know that there are various cellular networks available. Mobile network stores usually have limited smartphone brand selections, but they sell the latest models available in the market. However, some of them also have their cellphone products. The best example for this is AT&T— which sells its own brand of cellphones in addition to being one of the largest network carrier companies in the US.

    GSM vs. CDMA Phone Network

We mentioned the two types of network standards in the previous section: GSM and CDMA . GSM is short for “global system for mobile communications,” and CDMA is for “code division multiple access”.

GSM phones require sim cards with unique user’s phone numbers from any network provider. Changing phones is considerably convenient when you can simply transfer a sim card into another GSM phone, and it remains useable— making GSM phones directly associated with the unlocked phone concept. GSM carriers also offer the latest 4G or LTE service protocols for optimum wireless connections. The downside to this is if you are in an area with weak 4G or LTE connection, you might need the ability of CDMA phones to gather cell service from 2G or 3G points.

CDMA phones traditionally had no use of sim cards, and it can still allow connection between users through the network carrier. However, with the rise of LTE networks, many CDMA carriers are now inclusive of sim card applications, including 4G or LTE services.

Hybrid phones are also becoming prevalent now, allowing both GSM and CDMA network protocols for better service and connectivity. Somehow, the difference between GSM and CDMA becomes irrelevant when it comes to choosing from the latest smartphone models. Nonetheless, if you’re meticulous with this kind of detail, remember to ask your carrier before landing on a decision.

How can you put a sim card into an unlocked phone?

How to remove or install a sim card on an iphone

If your phone is unlocked, putting a sim card is much less complicated.

Unlike locked phones where you can only use the sim card provided by the network carrier, you have the option to choose your carrier on your unlocked phone device.

Putting a brand new sim on a brand new unlocked phone device is as easy as one-two-three. Once you’ve chosen the right phone variant based on the cellular network frequency specifications, you can pick a sim card from any carrier, and then set it up.

However, if you’re transferring an old sim card from a different phone, and you want to transfer sim data to your new phone, you have to back up the data from the old phone first before removing the sim. You can do this by opening your sim settings/contacts folder, look for “export files to SIM card” and select that option.

When the transfer is finished, you can remove the sim from the old phone and transfer it to the new phone. Then, you just have to set up your new phone, which is integrated with your sim’s carrier settings. You can confirm your sim’s activation by making a test call on one of your contacts and ensuring that you have stable network connectivity.

What are the advantages of buying unlocked phones?

    • The greatest advantage of buying an unlocked phone is that you can use it wherever you are in the world. The moment you activate it with your chosen wireless network, it might only require a few minor adjustments to ensure that it can work internationally.
    • Opting to buy unlocked smartphones from retail stores spare you of contracts and specified phone plans. Network contracts provide you with staggered payment options on your phone plans, but they often come out more expensive. Combining the costs of buying a phone on its original price and spending on prepaid plans is an ultimately cost-effective option.
    • Unlocked phones allow you to install faster and better security updates, and there are no restrictions on the applications you want to have on your smartphone. You can delete pre-installed software, add new features, and customize your phone settings in any way you want.
    • Lastly, you can pick from a better selection of smartphones if you decide to use an unlocked phone. Actually, you can buy from an extensive lineup of products from any brand available in retail stores.

    In A Nutshell

Switching to unlocked phones might be an adjustment for those who have been adept using locked phones through cellular plans with a certain network provider. This type of change opens to new possibilities, different sets of features, especially in choosing a different carrier. But when it comes to setting up a sim card into your unlocked phone, the process is pretty easy. Just put your desired phone specs on the list, and ensure the right phone variant that provides your connectivity needs.
