You probably bought a Roku to watch services like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon. Maybe you’ll even check out some free video channels. But you probably don’t have any interest renting or buying movies from Fandango.

Every time you turn the thing on, however, Fandango’s Movie Store and TV Store is up in your face, taking a prominent place in the menu beside core settings like “Channels” and “Settings.” There’s also a “News” section for some reason.

Can you get rid of these things? Yes, though the setting is just slightly obscured. From the home menu, head to Settings > Home Screen. From there you can turn off both the Fandango stores and the News section by toggling them from “Show” to “Hide.”

Just like that, the Fandango TV and Movies stores, along with the News section, are gone from your home screen menu.

It’s a small thing, sure, but removing clutter from your life is always a positive in my book. If you weren’t going to use the Fandango Store, you might as well hide it.

The Roku 3 has options for a Movie Store and a TV Store that allow you to purchase or rent videos from their M-G0 service. An update to the Roku 3 operating system added links to the Movie Store and the TV Store directly to the home screen.

If you do not use either of these options, or if you have a child that you do not want to be able to use them, then you might be looking for a way to remove them. Fortunately both of the store options can be hidden from the Home screen by following our short guide below.

Adding channels and apps to your Roku device is incredibly simple, which makes it easy to flood your homepage with channels you don’t need. Luckily, you can remove channels from your Roku with a few clicks.

Just note that removing a channel like Netflix , which requires a subscription to watch, won’t cancel that subscription. You’ll need to cancel your account separately if you don’t want to pay anymore.

Here’s how to remove channels from your Roku, using the device itself or the mobile app.

How to remove channels from Roku channel lineup

1. From the Home screen, find the channel you want to remove and press the star button (*) on your remote to open the channel details.

2. Select Remove channel from the list of options and press OK on the remote.

3. Confirm your choice to remove the channel by selecting Remove and pressing OK.

How to remove channels from the Roku mobile app

The Roku app is available for free on iOS and Android mobile devices. Install the app if needed before beginning.

1. Open the Roku mobile app and connect the app to your Roku device. Remember that they need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

2. Once connected, head to the Devices tab and select Channels.

3. You’ll see a list of all the channels installed on your device. Press and hold your finger on the one you want to remove, then tap Remove.

You can move or delete just about anything from your Roku home screen and even get alerts when movies and shows become available. Here’s how.

Customize the Roku Home Screen

Most streaming players lay out apps by whatever’s most convenient for the developers. Android TV devices favor Google Play, while Amazon Fire TV boxes put Amazon Video front and center. Roku’s approach is much more benign. You can move or delete just about anything from your home screen.

1. Access your channels on the home screen.

2. Hold down the * button on the remote control.

The asterisk button will open up the options menu.

3. Select move channel or remove channel.

You can move your channels anywhere you desire, and others will automatically fill the space.

4. Get rid of Movie Store, TV Store or News

You may have noticed options for the Roku-aligned Fandango Now Movie and TV Stores on the home page, as well as a News button that gives you access to the latest stories from around the world. If you use these options, great! If not, you can get rid of them easily. Access the Settings menu.

From there, select Home screen. Simply select Hide for the Movie and TV Store or the News feed. You can always reactivate them later if you wish.

How to Follow Movies and TV Shows

One of Roku’s unique features is the ability to follow movies and TV shows from your Home screen. This allows you to learn when new movies become available on popular streaming services, or when existing movies and TV shows decrease in price.

1. Select My Feed.

This will let you choose from Movies, TV Shows and Movies Coming Soon, which are movies that are either still in theaters, or have left only recently.

2. Select a movie or TV show.

3. Select “Follow this on Roku.”

You will now get notifications on your home screen every time your followed movie or TV show appears on a new service, or gets a price drop.

You can also add any TV show or movie to your feed by simply searching for it from the home screen and selecting “Follow this on Roku.”

Roku TVs are now displaying pop-up advertisements over commercials on live TV. Whether you’re watching cable TV or free OTA channels via an antenna, you’ll see an occasional Roku advertisement above a commercial. Here’s how to disable them.

These ads were first spotted by Cord Cutters News. An advertisement promoting “Ghost Town” on the Roku Channel, a program sponsored by GEICO, appeared over a GEICO commercial while watching live TV. The ads appear to be part of the Roku OS 9.2 update.

The good news is that these only appear during commercial breaks. If an advertiser has partnered with Roku, that advertiser can display an interactive pop-up advertisement over the normal commercial. These ads will only appear when commercials are already playing on your TV.

If you don’t want to see these advertisements, you can disable them. To do so, head to Settings > Privacy > Smart TV Experience and disable the “Use info from TV inputs” feature on your Roku TV.

This will also disable suggestions like “More Ways to Watch,” which uses Automated Content Recognition (ACR) to analyze what you’re watching and recommend additional episodes of the show on streaming services as well as similar shows and movies you may be interested in watching.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

These advertisements are only available on Roku TVs at the moment. If you have a TCL Roku TV or a Roku TV made by another manufacturer, this affects you.

If you just have a standard Roku stick or streaming box, you won’t see these ads or the option to disable the “Use info from TV inputs” feature.

Check How to Free Up Space on Your Roku

Roku is one of the most popular streaming platforms available. It has a lot of free content, but it also offers access to your favorite paid streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and others. Also, Roku has a great interface with a recognizable purple color and a unique TV remote.

It is easy to use and you can even customize it to your preferences. But from time to time, your Roku may report a “Not enough space” error. Why is this happening and how can you fix it?

Roku Express problem

Those who have been using Roku Express players may have experienced problems with not having enough space more than others. When users tried to add a channel or try to run a channel, they would see this error. This was the case for some of the Roku Express models, and there were complaints directly to Roku. The issue was quickly resolved because Roku provided an update to correct this bug.

If you want to check if there is an update available for your Roku player, all you need to do is go to Start> Settings> System> System Update> Check Now. Even if you don’t have a problem with enough space on your Roku, it’s probably best to always have the latest update.

Delete channels

One of the ways you can free up space on your Roku device is by deleting channels. If you ever have the problem of not having enough space on your Roku, this probably means that you have edited quite a few channels. Perhaps this notification will encourage you to spring clean your Roku!

Go through all the channels you have and see which ones you actually use. There are probably a few that you thought you would see but ended up not doing. This action will make getting around Roku much easier and faster. This is how you delete a channel from Roku:

  1. Go to the Roku home screen and click on “My Channels”.
  2. Using your remote, select the channel you want to delete and then press * on the remote.
  3. Select “Delete Channel” and then press “OK” on the remote control.
  4. Select “Delete” again and press “OK” to confirm.

Add an SD card

In case you’re not looking to delete anything on your Roku player, your other option may be to add an SD card. Some Roku players provide access to a micro SD card slot. This could be especially beneficial if you need to expand the amount of internal memory to add more games and channels. Follow these steps to make sure your SD card is working properly:

Step 1

Insert the SD card into your Roku player. You will probably hear a click when it is in place.

Step 2

When your SD card is inserted, select “Format” when “Micro SD card detected” appears. Everything that was on the SD card will be deleted at this point. So be sure to save your data before doing this. If it is not a new SD card. Then press “Continue” and “OK” when you have finished formatting.

Remove the SD card

If you decide to remove the SD card, you should know that everything stored on it will not be deleted. However, without the SD card installed, all the channels and games you had there, need to be edited again on Roku. You cannot move the channels and games stored on the SD card on a different Roku device. Also, for best results, you will need an SD card with a minimum of 2GB of storage.

Factory reset

Freeing up space on the Roku could be fixed with an update or by removing unused channels. You can also add space instead of freeing it up. But sometimes, neither of these solutions is good enough. You keep seeing the message “Not enough space” and no amount of troubleshooting is fixing the problem.

In these situations, your best course of action is to perform a factory reset on your Roku device. It can be disappointing because it means you’ll have to go through the setup again, but it’s worth it if you solve the problem. To do a factory reset, follow these steps:

  1. Take your remote control and press the “Start” button.
  2. Scroll down and then select “Settings” and then “System.”
  3. Now locate and select “Advanced System Settings”.
  4. Select “Factory Reset”.
  5. Finally, select “Factory reset everything”. And then continue to follow the instructions that you will see on the screen.

More space means more fun

If you’re not interested in ditching the channels and games you’ve edited on Roku, a micro SD card can be your gateway to even more entertainment content. However, in case you are more curious about keeping your Roku feed flawlessly, you can make sure you always have the latest update. And that not a single channel is unused.

How many channels do you need on Roku? Have you ever had trouble freeing up space? Let us know in the comment section.

Roku provides access to thousands of streaming content channels, but not all content is suitable for all age groups. With Roku parental control methods, parents can restrict access to channels and content that isn’t appropriate for children, and stop kids from adding unwanted channels or paid subscriptions. Here’s how to access and set controls for your Roku device.

Roku devices can’t access parental controls within third-party channels. To set up parental controls in channels like YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, and more, go directly to these apps’ settings.

How to Create a PIN for Roku Parental Controls

Roku streaming devices don’t have any kind of universal parental controls, but by using a PIN, it’s possible to restrict children from adding channels and purchasing apps, movies, and shows from the Roku Channel Store. Here’s how:

Log in to your Roku account through a smartphone or web browser.

Under PIN preference, select Update.

Choose your PIN preferences. For the highest level of access restriction, select Always require a PIN to make purchases and add items from the Channel Store.

You’ll be prompted to create a PIN. Enter and verify a 4-digit PIN.

If you already have a PIN, you can change it here.

Under Parental Controls for the Roku Channel, select Little kids, Young kids, or Teens to require a PIN for the described content. Select Save Changes.

Now, if your children want to purchase a movie or add a channel, they’ll have to ask you for a PIN, and you can decide if the content is appropriate.

Remove Channels You Deem Inappropriate

It’s easy to remove any channels you don’t want your kids to access, or add kid-friendly channels.

A PIN isn’t necessary to remove a channel, so anyone can remove channels from your lineup.

Using the Roku remote or Roku Mobile app, select the installed app you want to remove on the Roku home page.

Press the Options button (*) on your Roku remote.

Select Remove Channel.

Select Remove to confirm the channel’s removal.

Repeat the above steps for other channels you want to remove.

If you set PIN preferences in your account, you’ll need your PIN to add a deleted channel back in or add a new channel.

How to Hide the Movie Store and TV Store

In addition to removing channels, you can hide Roku’s Movie Store and TV Store from the Roku home page, so it’s not there to tempt the kids.

From the Roku home page, select Settings > Home Screen.

On the Home Screen Settings page, select the arrow in the right corner to proceed.

On the next page, select Movie Store and TV Store, then select Hide.

Come back to this page anytime and select Show to be able to see the Roku Movie Store and TV Store.

Roku Parental Controls on Roku TVs

If you have a Roku TV, in addition to the above controls, control content based on a TV or movie’s rating.

Go to the Roku home page.

Select Settings.

Select Parental Controls.

Enter (or create) your PIN.

Upon PIN entry confirmation, you’ll be taken to the TV tuner page. Select Enable Parental Controls.

Scroll down to the Movie ratings option you want to change. You’ll see the rating categories.

Select the rating restrictions you want to activate. A lock icon will appear to the right of the rating description.

To block unrated content, including movies, select Block all Unrated Programs.

Once the above two steps are completed, the option to block programs or movies will be inaccessible unless you re-enter the Roku PIN.

If you desire, select Reset parental controls to remove any changes you’ve made.

This screen prompt is not available on other Roku devices.

The Roku is a wonderful modern development, but it can be annoying when it’s packed with unwanted channels. Fortunately, Roku makes it very easy to flick through and change channels. Here’s how to remove unwanted channels from your Roku. Once you think about it, the technology is pretty cool. Just a decade ago, we all had to resort to traditional cable methods.

Now, not only can we watch live TV without the need for a cable connection, but we can also stream movies, series, and even sporting events on demand. However, before you remove channels from your Roku account or device, there is one thing you need to know. If it’s a subscription, simply deleting the channel doesn’t cancel the subscription. Too often, users delete a channel that is associated with a subscription and still end up paying because they forgot to cancel the subscription.

You must first cancel the associated subscription before you can delete the channel. Depending on which subscription you are, you can do this through the Roku channel or through the app’s website. First, check the app to see if you have a pending subscription.

The menu and navigation system on the Roku 3 is very easy to use, and you have the ability to install many new channels directly from the device. But it gets more difficult to maneuver through your channels when there are more of them, and there is a strong likelihood that you will not want to keep every channel that you have installed. Luckily you can delete a channel on the Roku 3, although it might not be immediately obvious how to do so.

Roku is an excellent, very versatile and user-friendly streaming device. However, it does have some flaws. Primarily, that it runs commercials every now and then, which most people dislike.

These commercials can interrupt you while gaming or watching Netflix and even slow down your internet speed. Unfortunately, there’s no native option on Roku that allows you to block commercials.

This is because commercials are Roku’s main source of revenue. Still, there are some steps you can take to limit ads on Roku. There are also third-party solutions for blocking commercials.

How to Limit Ads on Roku

Put simply, Roku has too many ads. And nobody likes having to sit through all of them. Luckily, there’s a way you can limit ads on Roku by using Roku settings. Be aware that this won’t remove all ads, but at least remove some of them.

You’re actually going to limit ad tracking, which is on by default. This helps Roku collect data freely from your search history and give you targeted advertisements. It’s easy to disable, just use the following steps:

  1. Enter the Settings on your Roku home screen.
  2. Choose Privacy.
  3. Then tap on Advertising.
  4. Next, enable the Limit Ad Tracking setting.
  5. Finally, restart your device.

From then on you shouldn’t get any more targeted ads, which is great. You’ll still get generic ads from Roku, but don’t despair. You can actually block Roku ads from your router.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

How to Block Ads on Roku from Your Router

There are some domains you can block from your router that will prevent some ads from popping up on your home screen. However, this still won’t block all ads. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Router-R6.
  2. Click on the Advanced option.
  3. Choose Security.
  4. Click on Block Sites Containing These keywords or Domain Name.
  5. Add http://cloudservices.roku.com and http://Analytichtpp://cloudservices.roku.com to the block list.
  6. Also, tick the Enterprise Advertising & Analytics Solution to block it.
  7. Restart your device.

This should stop Roku ads on YouTube and your Roku home screen. Don’t expect these methods to provide 100% protection against all commercials on Roku. They might be helpful for some devices, while for others they won’t.

How to Disable Interactive Commercials on Roku

If you thought regular commercials were annoying, imagine having a double set of commercials playing at the same time. Roku actually started doing this on the 9.2 updates for the Roku operating system.

These pop-up commercials only appear during commercial breaks, but they’re still an annoying distraction. Thankfully, there’s a way to disable these interactive commercials. Here are the steps:

  1. Enter the Settings on your Roku home screen.
  2. Go to Privacy.
  3. Select Smart TV Experience.
  4. Then turn off the Use Info from the TV Inputs option.
  5. The interactive ads should stop appearing, if not, restart your Roku.

In addition to removing the interactive commercials, disabling this feature will also disable suggestions from Roku such as more ways to watch. This feature is based on ACR, short for Automated Content Recognition, which analyses your watching habits and recommends similar content or further episodes of the same show you watched.

These interactive commercials are actually only present on Roku TV devices. If you own a Roku streaming box or the regular Roku stick, you won’t have to disable these ads because they won’t even exist.

What About Ad Blockers?

The easiest solution for dealing with any ads on the internet is using an ad blocker. There are many great ad blockers for various browsers, but unfortunately, these don’t work on Roku devices. That’s a pity, but hold on.

As there is a third-party ad blocker you can use to block all internet ads from your entire network. It is called AdGuard DNS, and it’s totally free, easy to set up and use, without any apps or installations.

AdGuard can block ads on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Ubuntu devices, and can also block ads directly from your router. You can get all the information and setup steps for all platforms directly from their website.

This service is very versatile, and it can serve both for blocking commercials on Roku, or for family protection and blocking adult content. It blocks all ads, phishing, and tracking on your network. The AdGuard database is constantly updated so it keeps blocking all these negative elements.

Free at Last

If you find commercials irksome, you’re not alone. Finally, you can enjoy streaming content on your Roku without too many interruptions. We don’t guarantee that these methods will get rid of all the commercials on Roku, but they should at least reduce the amount.

Which of the suggested methods worked out the best for you? Do you have any additional questions or remarks? Feel free to leave them in the comments section below.

A Roku TV takes the idea of a Roku — basically a device that gives you access to hundreds of streaming services — and puts it into a smart TV with a ton of great features.

One of these great features is the ability for the user to go in and change which input source the Roku TV defaults to when it turns on.

So if you’re more of a traditional TV watcher, and still use a cable box as your primary viewing method, you can set it as the default. Same with a game console, or Blu-ray player.

With all of these options, you’d think that setting up and changing this feature might be a little complicated, but it’s actually an incredibly simple process.

How to change the default input on a Roku TV

1. Go to the homescreen by pressing the Home button on your Roku TV remote. It’s the button with an image of a house on it, under the power button.

2. In the menu on the left side of the screen, scroll down until you reach the “Settings” option, and select it.

3. Scroll down and select “System.”

4. Scroll down and select “Power.”

5. Select “Power On,” the first option.

6. Choose the input you want your Roku TV to default to when you turn it on. Each input has its own preset name, but actually corresponds to a different HDMI input.

Once you do so, you can press the Home button again. Everything will save automatically.

The next time you turn the Roku TV off and on again, it’ll switch to the new default input.

If you ever need to return to the homescreen, to change it your default input again or simply use your Roku services, just press the Home button on your Roku remote.

If you’re the type of person that’s always losing the remote, you can just ask Alexa to turn on your TV, find something to watch, turn up the volume, and more. All you need is an Alexa device and a smart TV or streaming device, and you can control your TV without ever touching your remote. Here’s how to connect Alexa to your TV and the voice commands you can use to control your TV hands-free.

Note: These steps will only work with select smart TVs, streaming devices, cable subscriptions, and other services.

Common Alexa Commands to Control Your TV

Once you have connected your TV to your Alexa devices, you can use voice commands to turn the TV on and off, change the volume, play or pause a movie, and more. All you have to do is say “Alexa,” followed by the command, and, finally, say the name of your TV or service provider.

    • “Alexa, turn on [TV name].” or“Alexa, turn off [TV name].” These commands either turn on or off your TV.
    • “Alexa, go home on [TV name].” This will instantly take you to the home screen on your TV, streraming device, or service.
    • “Alexa, lower the volume on [TV name].” This command lowers the volume of your television.
    • “Alexa, mute/unmute [TV name].” Mutes/unmutes your television.
    • “Alexa, play/pause/resume/stop [TV name].” Control the playback of your device.
    • “Alexa, open Hulu TV/Netflix/etc.” This will open streaming devices that you’re subscribed to.
    • “Alexa, fast forward/rewind [TV name].” Fast forward or rewind the video that you’re watching.
    • “Alexa, search for comedies/drama/horror movies on [TV name].” This will allow you to search for movies by genre.
    • “Alexa, play ‘Tropic Thunder’/’Man in the High Castle’ on [TV name].” This will immediately start playing a movie or TV show. However, you might have to use a remote to sign in to your streaming service before you can start playing certain videos.
    • “Alexa, change the input to HDMI1/Xbox.” Changes the input of your television to either HDMI1 or an Xbox, if you have it connected.

Those are just a few of the commands that your Alexa can do. If you’re don’t want Alexa interrupting your movie, check out our step-by-step guide on how to make Alexa whisper.

This has probably happened to you at one point or another – your internet connection is nowhere to be found, the newest episode of your favorite show didn’t get uploaded, or your favorite streaming platform is just working too slowly.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

When stuff like that happens, a gadget like a Roku streaming stick can quickly become very useless. But, this doesn’t mean that you can’t use your TV anymore. There’s always cable TV, for those that have it. If you’re unsure how to get back to it after relying on Roku for too long, here are some tricks that should help.

How to Power off Your Roku Stick

There are a few ways in which you can turn off your Roku streaming stick. Some are available on the entire Roku lineup and others will require you to get crafty or to buy some new control accessories. Here’s how you can manipulate a Roku stick.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

    Turn off Your TV

If you turn off your TV, your Roku stick will also shutdown. But, if you power up your TV again with the Roku stick plugged in, it will probably go by default to the Roku player. Remove your Roku stick before starting your TV again.

Set Automatic Shutdown on Roku 4

Roku 4 has two additional features which older generation devices don’t share. You can set the player to shutdown automatically or you can manually shut it down.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

For the automatic shutdown follow the next steps:

    1. Bring up the Home screen on Roku.
    2. Use the remote to navigate to the Settings menu.
    3. Select System.
    4. Go to Power.
    5. Select the Auto power off option.

This will turn off your Roku player if it stays idle for 30 minutes.

For the manual or on-demand shutdown follow these steps:

    1. Bring up the Home screen on Roku.
    2. Use the remote to navigate to the Settings menu.
    3. Select System.
    4. Select Power.
    5. Choose Power off from the power options.

There’s no automatic shutdown button on the remote, nor is there a power button on the USB stick that can make this any easier.

    Use Other Smart Gadgets

Another way in which you can power off your Roku device so that your TV returns automatically to cable, is to use a smart strip or a power strip with a power button attached. These accessories can save you having to walk all the way to your TV to unplug your Roku player. They’re especially useful if you have an older generation Roku player without accessible power off functionality in the settings menu.

Change the Source on Your TV

This should be pretty obvious, even if this is the first time you’ve used a smart TV. Even before smart TVs came along, many regular TVs gave you the option of changing the source of the A/V input.

Because of this you could always quickly switch between your cable TV, PS console, Xbox, PC stream, DVR, and other sources. Therefore, in order to go back to regular TV, you can always just use your remote to switch the source from your USB Roku player back to your regular cable input.

Disabling Roku on a Roku TV

Here’s something very interesting that you can sometimes do on certain TVs. If you want to disable Roku but you have a Roku smart TV, you may be able to disable its features completely and have the TV operate as a regular TV with no OS.

The process may differ from one model to another, but what should always work is a factory reset. If you can find your TV’s specific factory reset process you can use that to revert it to default settings. What this means is that once you reboot it, all your Roku information will be gone.

This of course means that you’ll have to set up your Roku account again. If you choose not to connect to the internet, then you won’t be able to configure the Roku OS, and therefore have a regular TV. But again, this may not work all the time. TCL Roku TVs have shown a higher rate of success with this particular method than other brands.

Is Regular TV Worth It Anymore?

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet. While it’s true that a lot of people like binge watching TV series and scripted reality shows all day long, there’s still a large percent of the population that use their TVs for more than just that.

Take watching sports, for example. If you’re a true sports fan then a Roku smart TV or Roku streaming stick won’t give you the best selection of national and international sports channels. For that you’ll have to switch back to cable or satellite TV. Do you use regular TV for something else that you can’t find on Roku besides sports and news? If so, let us know what you feel is lacking from the Roku channels playlist in the comments section below.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

Not every Roku channel appears in the channel store. There are quite a few hidden “private channels” you have to go out of your way to find.

On a Roku, channels are basically the same thing as “apps.” This means there’s a universe of additional apps for your Roku, and you can find them with your web browser. They’re easy to install if you know where to look.

What’s a Private Channel, and Why Are They Private?

Private channels are channels that are part of the official Roku channel store, but aren’t displayed publically. This means that they don’t appear to average Roku users when they’re clicking through the channel store on the remote, or searching for channels on Roku’s website.

Some of these channels are private because they’re in beta and not ready for a full release. Some require a membership and are hidden so average Roku users don’t stumble across and install them. Some offer types of content Roku doesn’t want publically visible in the channel store. Others may be unofficial, third-party channels for various websites and other services, like Twitter.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

Find a Private Channel You Want to Install

First, you’ll need to find the private channel you want to install. Searching for “Roku private channels” or “Roku private channel [topic]” will help you a lot here. But here’s how you can get started.

The Nowhere Man has created a variety of private channels you can install, including clients for Twitter, Vine, CNN, USTREAM.tv, Songza, and the Khan academy. There’s even “Nowhere Bullet,” a PushBullet screen saver that can display your Android phone or tablet’s notifications on your TV.

He also offers “Nowhere TV” — a popular private channel that presents free online video content from a variety of websites in a convenient interface.

You’ll also find directories of Roku private channels on other websites. Take a look at the streamfree.tv directory or the one at mkvXstream to browse what’s available.

Look for a private channel code, or a link you can click. The link will be in the form “https://owner.roku.com/add/CODE” — it’s just an easy way to enter the code into Roku’s website.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

    Add the Private Channel

You now need to add the private channel to your Roku. This process is mostly performed in your web browser, as there’s no way to enter a private channel code on the Roku itself.

Sign into your account on Roku’s website and access the My Account page. Click the “Add a Channel” link. You’ll need to use the same Roku account you linked to your Roku device.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

Type the private channel’s code — also known as a “channel access code” or “invitation code” — into the box on Roku’s website. Click “Add Channel” and the channel will be added to your Roku account and queued for installation on your Roku.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

Next, go to your Roku. The channel will appear on your Roku within 24 hours when it automatically checks for updates, but you don’t have to wait.

To have it check for and download the private channel immediately, open the Settings screen, select System, select System update, and select “Check now.” Your Roku will automatically download any new private channels you’ve added.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

    Start Watching the Private Channel

Once the private channel is installed, it’ll appear alongside all your other installed channels on your Roku’s home screen. The private channel comes from the same Roku channel store your other channels come from, and it’ll be automatically updated like they will.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

You can remove a private channel like you’d remove any other channel. Just select it on your Roku’s home screen with your remote, press the * button, and select the option to remove it. You’ll have to re-enter its code on Roku’s website if you ever want to add it again.

Here’s how to banish buffering and get back to smooth playback.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

5 quick fixes for buffering while streaming

    1. Lower the video quality to standard definition (SD).
    2. Disconnect all other devices in the house from the internet.
    3. Reboot your router.
    4. Turn off other applications that might be running in the background of your streaming device.
    5. Upgrade your internet plan with more speed or data.

It’s Sunday night, the pizza is piping hot, and you and your kids have fired up Disney+ for movie night. But someone else has arrived: it’s your old enemy, buffering.

Why does buffering happen? And how can you stop buffering pauses while streaming?

Well, it turns out that buffering might not be what you think it is. We’ll walk you through what causes buffering problems and how to stop buffering failure. Believe it or not, it is possible to stream a smooth video even with a slower internet connection from satellite itnernet providers like Viasat and HughesNet.

    What causes buffering?

Buffering is the process of preloading chunks of data so you can have a smooth video streaming experience. This creates a buffer that ideally lets you watch your content all the way through with no delays.

So, to clear up a common misconception: buffering is not the point where your video pauses and that irritating loading symbol spins on the screen: this is actually the point where buffering has failed.

Although your video is constantly buffering, people have mislabeled the spinning wheel of death as the moment buffering begins. But for the sake of simplicity, we’ll keep referring to it as “buffering.”

    Jump to:

How to stop buffering while streaming

If you fire up a stream and find that the buffering is bad, try one of the following options to fix the problem.

    1. Turn it off and turn it back on. Yes, we’re serious. True, this advice has been the subject of many jokes, but it actually works. Rebooting your TV, router, or streaming platform can be the fresh start your system needs to get back on track. Don’t knock it until you try it.
    2. Make sure no applications are running in the background. Make sure there are no downloads happening while streaming. It’s also a good idea to close any other programs or apps if you’re streaming on a computer or phone.
    3. Disconnect other devices from the network. If you’ve got other smart TVs, computers, tablets, or other devices connected to your network, they could be using up bandwidth and cutting into your stream. Either put them in airplane mode or turn them off. This is something you have to be especially conscious of if your internet speed is 25 Mbps or slower.
    4. Delete your browser cache and temporary files. If you’re on a laptop and streaming through your web browser, clearing the cache and other temporary files can clean out some gunk and may help speed things up. In Google Chrome, you can find this option under Settings > Advanced Settings.
    5. Reduce the video quality. If all else fails, lower the video quality of your stream to get things moving more quickly. If you have Viasat, you can do this automatically by using the Viasat browser. The exact procedure to do this will vary depending on the device and streaming platform you’re using, but you’ll usually find this setting in either your streaming app’s settings or your device settings. Many streaming platforms will do this automatically when they sense slowing, but doing it manually can expedite things.
    6. Switch your router to 5 GHz. If your modem/router is using 2.4 GHz frequency instead of 5 GHz, the signal will travel farther but it will be slower, which could be causing buffering problems. Keep your router close to your main streaming devices and use 5 GHz for the best experience. To check out what frequency you’re using, type 192.168.0.1 into your browser window. It will bring up a window with your internet provider’s name and ask you for your admin name and password. After entering your password, you’ll be given an option to choose between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
    7. Download content instead of streaming. You can download content from popular streaming apps prior to watching it. Download content the day before you watch and you won’t have to deal with streaming problems.
    8. Upgrade your internet service. If you’ve tried the other suggestions and nothing is helping, it’s probably due to your internet plan. You either have insufficient internet speed or data to keep up with video streaming. Satellite internet customers generally have problems with frequent streaming. If you run out of priority data before the end of the month, your satellite provider will deprioritize your data—which basically means it’ll slow down your speeds. Speeds are slowed to 1–3 Mbps, which usually isn’t enough for streaming (Netflix recommends 5 Mbps). Satellite internet might not be your only option, though. Other good internet options for rural areas include 5G/4G LTE home internet, fixed-wireless, and DSL, which often offer ample data allowances and speeds for streaming.

If you live in a remote area and satellite internet is your only option, we recommend Viasat if you like to stream video content. Viasat’s top two plans include 200 to 300 GB per month of data, while comparably priced HughesNet plans offer only 50 GB per month. Cheaper plans get you much less data—a measly 12 GB per month on budget plans.

Private Roku channels are, without exaggeration, the wilderness of streaming media. Roku already sets itself apart from the competition by supporting full-featured apps by porn companies. But letting users make their own channels is a brave choice on the company’s part. Give people the freedom to make a service that only shows gory kung-fu movies and they’ll do it. That’s why it’s so frustrating to discover most of the Roku private channels are downright awful.

A lack of content and amateurish design make most private Roku channels curiosities at best. Worst of all, many channels have been abandoned, leaving you without content to watch and crashing apps. Finding great Roku private channels can be frustrating, leaving some users feeling like private channels are more trouble then they’re worth. But fear not: We’ve tested one hundred of the biggest private channels we could find so you shouldn’t have too. Here are the best private channels on Roku.

Keep in mind, due to the nature of these channels, content can disappear without warning.

    What is Roku
    Best Roku Channels
    Roku Free Channels

    Local Channels on Roku
    Roku Private Channels

    1) Wilderness Channel

Billing itself as the TV channel for nature enthusiasts, outdoor survivalists, and hunters, Wilderness Channel sort of serves as the Nature Channel for the doomsday set. Mixing videos about camping and hunting with survivalism explainers, Wilderness is an outside-the-box look at outdoor life. Don’t worry: There aren’t any problematic political views on display.

    2) Toonami Aftermath

    3) The Silent Movie Channel

Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin: These are just a few of the brilliant minds that helped shape the dawn of the film industry, and now you can rewatch their finest moments. The Silent Movie Channel collects the finest public domain silent movies in history into one easy-to-view package. See the early days of animation, comedy, horror, documentaries, and more from the comfort of your sofa. The interface is clunky, but the content is king.

    4) RokuMovies

Roku private channels excel in sharing the world’s strangest low-budget excentricities with audiences that would otherwise never know they exist. RokuMovies is an excellent example of this, a showcase of forgotten kung-fu and giant monster movies. Looking for lost hard-boiled detectives or a vintage romance? RokuMovies titles might never ring a bell, but they’ll keep you entertained.

    5) ITPC

The iTunes Podcast Channel brings your favorite podcasts to your Roku, including streaming video podcasts. Browse today’s hits or search for your favorite titles. Even with the simple interface, ITPC is a must-have for podcast-loving Roku users.

    6) Daily Motion

YouTube may be king of the streaming channels, but Daily Motion is a close contender. The second largest tube site on the internet doesn’t have an official Roku channel, but you can watch most of its content on this private one. Daily Motion’s biggest selling point as a Roku private channel is the lack of ads, but be warned: You sacrifice search-result quality for all that ad-free viewing.

    7) Archive.Org

Are you a true explorer of forgotten internet and pop culture content? Archive.Org is the guide post you never knew you needed. Collecting all of the public domain movies, music, TV shows, clips, and tidbits that would otherwise be lost to time, this private Roku channel lets you browse Archive.org’s collection from your home TV. Prepare to dig deep to find gold, but if you’re looking for lost cartoons, old movies, or clips of news, it’s worth the journey.

    8) Creature Cast

Horror fans are already well served by Roku, but Creature Cast serves up a family-friendly spookfest that deserves mention. Its lineup is slight, but Creature Cast is made up of two very special things: Bozo and horror hosts. Bozo the Clown is a beloved Chicago TV figure, a morning children’s show featuring goofs and games that’s sadly been lost to time until now. The horror hosts are also public access treasures, local eccentrics who hosted a morning horror movie for family audiences. Creature Cast is light on content, but what’s there is gold.

    9) Lode Runner

Roku isn’t just for watching; it also works as a game console. You can even use your remote as a controller. Lode Runner is a classic of arcade platforming, leading players through a maze as they avoid enemies and gather treasures. It’s OK if you missed out on the game in arcades, thanks to this handy Roku port. Our favorite aspect is the ability to play the game like it would look like on various older computer systems. You’ll just enjoy the crisp, classic gameplay.

    10) Prince of Persia

Seeking a more difficult thrill than Lode Runner provides? Prince of Persia has been inspiring players to rip out their hair for decades, thanks to its precise controls and frustrating puzzles. Controlling your Prince via the remote takes a little work, but once you master the basics, you’ll be running through sword fights and traps in no time.

    11) Home Movies

No channel exemplifies the strange charm of Roku private channels like Home Movies. Made up entirely of a rotating selection of family home movies from the last few decades, Home Movies is often completely silent. These digitized videos create a zen-like stream of the past, giving a slice of life view that history documentaries don’t provide. We suggest putting on some music and zoning out to this one.

Since the launch of Movies Anywhere, I’ve been happily watching my Amazon purchases on Apple TV and my iTunes purchases on my Amazon Echo Show. Digital copies of movies I’d nearly forgotten about are right there in my movie library, waiting for me to watch on any device of my choosing. I still have a huge collection of DVDs, however, just sitting there, un-digitized. Sure, I can rip my DVD collection, but that takes time and effort. With a little help from Vudu and Movies Anywhere, I can get high-quality digital versions of many of my DVDs and Blu-Rays without having to do the work.

Vudu Disc to Digital will digitize your physical movies

If you’re not inclined to spend the time digitizing your DVDs or Blu-ray discs, you can have it done for you, for a price, using Vudu’s Disc to Digital service. If you’ve merged your UltraViolet movies with Movies Anywhere, you already have an account with Vudu. If you don’t have an account with Vudu, you’ll need one to use their service. It’s easy to sign up.

Once you’re signed up, you can either use your Mac or PC to scan your disc and convert it to digital, or download the iPhone and iPad app or Android app and sit right in front of your movie shelf and just let the scanning begin!

This isn’t going to work with all of your movies. First off, in order to digitize it, you’ll need to scan the UPC. If your DVD or Blu-ray disc doesn’t have a UPC, you can’t digitize it.

Additionally, Vudu can only digitize discs it currently offers in its marketplace. So, your DVD of The Amazing Screw-on Head isn’t going to be available, UPC or not.

Some movies that Vudu does currently offer won’t be supported with the Disc to Digital service, like some special multi-disc editions, TV shows, and multi-movie packs.

Remember, not all movie distribution companies have signed on with Disney for Movies Anywhere. For example, Paramount Pictures does not support Movies Anywhere. So movies from some distribution companies won’t be available in Movies Anywhere, even if you are able to digitize them through Vudu. Right now, five major movie studios support Movies Anywhere:

    • Disney
    • Twentieth Century Fox
    • Sony Pictures
    • Universal
    • Warner Bros.

Check your box to make sure your movie is supported in Movies Anywhere before you spend the money digitizing it. Some movie distribution companies, Lionsgate for example, are distributed by major studios, like 20th Century Fox in this particular example.

How to turn your physical movies into digital

Once you’re all signed up and signed in to your Vudu account, all you have to do is select Disc to Digital in the app or on the website. You can do a quick search to make sure your movie is supported, or scan the barcode. If Vudu has it on file, it’ll appear. You can then choose the quality of the digital copy as SD for $2 or HDX for $5. Blu-rays are all HDX and cost $2 to digitize.

Digitizing your discs on iPhone and iPad

    1. Launch the Vudu app on your iPhone or iPad.
    2. Tap the menu icon in the upper left corner.
    3. Tap Disc to Digital from the menu.

    Tap Scan Barcode.

Tap Continue scanning to digitize another movie.

Once finished, you’ll receive an email with the next steps to finish.

Digitizing your discs on Mac or PC

To digitize your physical movies on your computer, you’ll need a connected DVD and/or Blu-ray disc drive. If you don’t have one, and don’t plan to buy one, you’ll need to digitize your movies using your iPhone or iPad instead.

    1. Navigate to Vudu.com and sign in.
    2. Click on Services in the menu at the top.

    Click on Disc to Digital

Scroll down and click on Download under Convert In-Home (with a computer).

  • Once the app is downloaded and installed onto your computer, open it and Sign in.
  • Click on Disc to Digital.
  • Click on Add Disc.
  • Insert your DVD to convert it to digital.
  • Select the quality format from SD or HDX (Blu-ray is HD)
  • Once finished, you’ll receive an email with the next steps to finish.

Troubleshooting Disc to Digital checkout issues

If you don’t receive a confirmation email (I never did with two different attempts), you might have to visit the Vudu website from your web browser to manually check out.

    1. Navigate to my.vudu.com/D2DConversion from your web browser.
    2. Click Checkout at the bottom of your list of scanned movies.

Click Convert Now to confirm your purchase.

How to watch your newly digitized movies on any device

Once the digitizing process is complete, your movies will appear in your Vudu library. If you’re already signed in and have your Vudu account synced with Movies Anywhere, those digital copies will begin popping up on your respective movie-watching services, like iTunes, Amazon Video, and Google Play so you can watch them on any supported device, like your Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android tablet, iPad, Android phone, and iPhone.

Just grab some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy your movies.

    Any questions?

Do you have any questions about how to digitize your physical movies using Vudu’s Disc to Digital service? Put them in the comments and we’ll help you out.

HBO Max is now available on Roku. After waiting for so long, Roku users can now stream their favorite HBO movies and series on their devices. You can watch iconic TV shows such as The Big Bang Theory or Friends. Max Originals such as The Flight Attendant are also available.

The bad news is that HBO Max may not always work on Roku. There are many technical glitches that users may sometimes encounter. In this guide, we’re going to focus on the most common ones and how you can fix them.

How to Fix HBO Max Tech Issues on Roku

Restart Roku and Reboot Your Modem

Before we dive into further troubleshooting steps, make sure to restart your Roku device and modem. If the problem you’re experiencing is due to network connection issues, restarting your device should fix it.

Go ahead and physically remove your Roku streaming stick. Re-install it again to perform a hard reset.

Or go to SettingsSystem and select System restart.

How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

Update Roku or Upgrade Your Device

The HBO Max app works only with Roku 9.3 and later. So, if you’re using older Roku models, such as the Roku 2500 model, you need to upgrade your device. Any Roku models that no longer receive the latest updates won’t play HBO Max smoothly.

To update Roku, press the Home button on the remote, and go to Settings. Then select SystemSystem Update and check for updates. How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

If you own a Roku model that’s running OS version 9.4.0 or higher but you still can’t watch HBO Max, contact Roku support for further help.

    Disable Your VPN

In other to watch HBO Max on Roku, you need to be located in the US or certain US territories. And you need to use your real IP address. If you’re using a VPN to hide your IP address, you’ll get an error message. Disable your VPN software and check if you can watch HBO Max on Roku after you did that.

    Re-Add the Channel

Uninstalling and reinstalling the HBO Max app may help you to fix many glitches and bugs.

    1. Take your Roku remote and press the Home button.
    2. Then navigate to Streaming Channels and open the Channel Store. How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen
    3. Locate HBO Max and press OK on your remote.
    4. Then select Remove channel and confirm your choice. How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

Other users confirmed the following workaround did the trick for them.

    1. On your phone, launch the HBO Max app. Then go to SettingsDevices and sign out of all your devices.
    2. Now, remove the HBO Max from Roku and restart the device.
    3. After restarting Roku, reinstall HBO Max.

The reason you need to sign out of all the devices is that Roku might be holding onto your old HBO login information. As a result, the new HBO Max channel will crash.

Alternatively, you can also unsubscribe from HBO. Then remove the HBO channel and restart your Roku device. Re-add the HBO Max channel after you did all that.

    Search the Title

Instead of using the home screen to select the title you want to watch, use the search feature. Play the title from the search screen. How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen

There are certain disadvantages if you choose to use this workaround. There are only four controls you can access: the 7-second replay, Pause, Forward, and Backward. The closed caption and the HBO Max menu are not available.

Additionally, try moving very slowly across the menu. Let two or three seconds pass between various actions and selections. Many users confirmed they managed to avoid frequent crashes by using this simple workaround.

    Clear the Cache

    1. Navigate to your Homescreen.
    2. Select the HBO Max channel.
    3. Then remove the channel. To do that, you need to press the asterisk button on your remote and select Remove channel. How to remove the fandango movie and tv stores from the roku home screen
    4. Restart your Roku device to clear the cache.

HBO Max and Roku 3500x Devices

Many Roku users who own 3500x Roku stick models complained about not being able to play HBO Max on their devices. Oftentimes, HBO Max struggles to load the content but then suddenly stops working and exits back to the home screen.

It seems that the HBO Max app requires more RAM and CPU power Roku 3500x models can deliver. If you’re using older Roku models, you may want to upgrade your device.

It’s very unlikely that HBO develops a light version of HBO Max for older Roku devices. And we don’t think Roku will invest the time and resources to develop a special app version that automatically dumps the cache before HBO Max launches.

    What to Know

Add Private, Non-Certified Channels to Roku

If a channel is still in the testing phase, it’s considered private, or “non-certified.” While these channels aren’t available in the Roku Channel Store, it’s possible to install them with an access code.

Here’s how to add a non-certified Roku channel using an access code:

While there’s no official list of non-certified channels, if you search Google for “Roku private channels,” you’ll find many non-certified channels and their access codes.

Navigate to Roku.com and sign in to your account.

Select your account icon from the top right, and then select My Account.

Under Manage account, select Add channel with a code.

Enter the channel access code and then select Add channel.

In this example, we’re using a code for the Wilderness Channel.

You’ll see a warning message with Roku’s policies about non-certified channels. Select OK to continue.

On the confirmation screen, select Yes, add channel. The channel will be added to your channel lineup.

Roku isn’t responsible for any fees a non-certified channel may charge.

    Remove Channels From Your Roku

It’s easy to remove channels from your Roku lineup directly on your TV or through the Roku mobile app.

If you’re removing a channel with a paid subscription, such as Netflix, you’ll have to cancel your subscription through the service provider.

Remove a Channel From a Roku Device

Navigate to the channel you want to remove, and select the star button on your remote to load channel information.

Knowing how to stream from your computer to your TV comes in handy when you want to stream your media – pictures, video, music, or videogames – on the big screen, rather than on your small computer or laptop screen.Luckily, you can stream your media from Linux to your TV! In this article, we will teach you how to do exactly that.

    HDMI Cable

This is one of the easiest ways to stream from Linux to a TV. Most smart and non-smart TV sets come with HDMI, or High-Definition Multimedia Interface, ports. With these cables, you can easily stream from your Linux OS to your TV.

These HDMI cables vary in length. Typically, they are of 2-3m in length. They do not cost much, and are very straightforward to install and use.

To link your Linux OS to your TV using an HDMI cable, follow these steps:

    1. Connect HDMI to both TV and your laptop.
    2. Press the Input list option on your TV remote.
    3. Choose the HDMI option.

Note: It could be any one of the HDMI 1, HDMI 2, or HDMI 3 selections, depending on the port number into which you plugged the HDMI cable.

    Chromecast

Google Chromecast is a device that can be plugged into any TV. After you have configured the device, it allows you to cast media from your phone or computer to the TV screen. Chromecast is a small and portable tool which allows you to stream media or cast your entire desktop screen on a TV.

If Chromecast is not available in your local market, consider buying alternatives, such as the Xiaomi Mi Box S, which comes with built-in Chromecast.

Ways to use Chromecast are discussed below:

    Chromecast using Google Chrome

Step 1: Open Google Chrome and click on the 3 dots in the top right corner.

After following these steps, your screen or file will be cast to the connected device.

    Chromecast Using VLC media player

VLC media player is one of the most popular media players in the market. VLC media player is open-source and you can use this program to play your audio and video files.

If you are playing a file on this program and you wish to cast it to your TV screen, that will not be a problem. This is because the VLC media player supports Chromecast. You can cast your file to the TV in a few easy steps.

Instead of “link,” paste the video URL you wish to cast to the device.

Screen Share Using Ubuntu’s ‘Media Sharing’

Using Media Sharing, you may view the files located on your desktop on a smart TV.

In previous versions, to share your screen to a TV, you had to use third-party tools – but no longer. As of Ubuntu 19.10, Ubuntu comes with a built-in feature that allows you to share your files.

To do this, follow these steps:

    Step 1: Open settings.

    Conclusion

There are several methods through which you can stream your Linux desktop on your TV or some other device. Some of these methods require external hardware, while others do not. Some methods require a third-party tool to stream your desktop to the TV if you have not yet updated past Ubuntu 19.10.

Chromecast comes with several features, but is not available in every country. The HDMI cable method is a simple and better option compared to other methods, but it requires you to always be within a 2-3 metre range of the television, which can be a hassle when your TV and computer are not in the same room.

That leaves us with the media share option that came with the Ubuntu 19.10 update. If you have not upgraded already, all you need to do is upgrade your Ubuntu to reap these benefits without having to purchase additional hardware.
